1Aerosol scattering coefficients and major chemical compositions of fine particles observed at a rural site in the central Pearl River Delta,South China显示文摘During November-December 2010 aerosol scattering coefficients were monitored using a single-waved (525 nm) Nephelometer at a regional monitoring station in the central Pearl River Delta region and 24-hr fine particle (PM 2.5) samples were also collected during the period using quartz filters for the analysis of major chemical components including organic carbon (OC),elemental carbon (EC),sulfate,nitrate and ammonium.In average,these five components accounted for about 85% of PM 2.5 mass and contributed 42% (OC),19% (SO 4 2 -),12% (NO 3 -),8.4% (NH 4+) and 3.7% (EC),to PM 2.5 mass.A relatively higher mass scattering efficiency of 5.3 m 2/g was obtained for fine particles based on the linear regression between scattering coefficients and PM 2.5 mass concentrations.Chemical extinction budget based on IMPROVE approach revealed that ammonium sulfate,particulate organic matter,ammonium nitrate and EC in average contributed about 32%,28%,20% and 6% to the light extinction coefficients,respectively.Xinming Wang Xiang Ding Xiaoxin Fu Quanfu He Shaoyi Wang Francois Bernard Xiuying Zhao Dui Wu 2012Journal of Environmental Sciences2012,24,1:25
2Changes in visibility with PM_(2.5) composition and relative humidity at a background site in the Pearl River Delta region显示文摘In fall–winter, 2007–2013, visibility and light scattering coefficients(b sp) were measured along with PM_(2.5)mass concentrations and chemical compositions at a background site in the Pearl River Delta(PRD) region. The daily average visibility increased significantly(p < 0.01) at a rate of 1.1 km/year, yet its median stabilized at ~13 km. No haze days occurred when the 24-hr mean PM_(2.5)mass concentration was below 75 μg/m^3. By multiple linear regression on the chemical budget of particle scattering coefficient(b sp), we obtained site-specific mass scattering efficiency(MSE) values of 6.5 ± 0.2, 2.6 ± 0.3, 2.4 ± 0.7 and 7.3 ± 1.2 m2/g,respectively, for organic matter(OM), ammonium sulfate(AS), ammonium nitrate(AN) and sea salt(SS). The reconstructed light extinction coefficient(b ext) based on the Interagency Monitoring of Protected Visual Environments(IMPROVE) algorithm with our site-specific MSE revealed that OM, AS, AN, SS and light-absorbing carbon(LAC) on average contributed 45.9% ± 1.6%,25.6% ± 1.2%, 12.0% ± 0.7%, 11.2% ± 0.9% and 5.4% ± 0.3% to light extinction, respectively.Averaged b ext displayed a significant reduction rate of 14.1/Mm·year(p < 0.05); this rate would be 82% higher if it were not counteracted by increasing relative humidity(RH) and hygroscopic growth factor(f(RH)) at rates of 2.5% and 0.16/year-1(p < 0.01), respectively, during the fall–winter, 2007–2013. 3Particle number concentration, size distribution and chemical composition during haze and photochemical smog episodes in Shanghai显示文摘The aerosol number concentration and size distribution as well as size-resolved particle chemical composition were measured during haze and photochemical smog episodes in Shanghai in 2009.The number of haze days accounted for 43%,of which 30%was severe(visibility<2 km)and moderate(2 km≤visibility<3 km)haze,mainly distributed in winter and spring.The mean particle number concentration was about 17,000/cm3in haze,more than 2 times that in clean days.The greatest increase of particle number concentration was in 0.5–1μm and 1–10μm size fractions during haze events,about 17.78times and 8.78 times those of clean days.The largest increase of particle number concentration was within 50–100 nm and 100–200 nm fractions during photochemical smog episodes,about 5.89 times and 4.29 times those of clean days.The particle volume concentration and surface concentration in haze,photochemical smog and clean days were102,49,15μm3/cm3and 949,649,206μm2/cm3,respectively.As haze events got more severe,the number concentration of particles smaller than 50 nm decreased,but the particles of 50–200 nm and 0.5–1μm increased.The diurnal variation of particle number concentration showed a bimodal pattern in haze days.All soluble ions were increased during haze events,of which NH4+,SO42-and NO3-increased greatly,followed by Na+,K+,Ca2+and Cl-.These ions were very different in size-resolved particles during haze and photochemical smog episodes.Xuemei Wang Jianmin Chen Tiantao Cheng Renyi Zhang Xinming Wang 2014Journal of Environmental Sciences2014,26,9:17
4Ionic composition of submicron particles(PM_(1.0)) during the long-lasting haze period in January 2013 in Wuhan, central China显示文摘In January 2013, a long-lasting severe haze episode occurred in Northern and Central China; at its maximum, it covered a land area of approximately 1.4 million km2. In Wuhan, the largest city in Central China, this event was the most severe haze episode in the 21st century. Aerosol samples of submicron particles(PM1.0) were collected during the long-lasting haze episode at an urban site and a suburban site in Wuhan to investigate the ion characteristics of PM1.0 in this area. The mass concentrations of PM1.0 and its water-soluble inorganic ions(WSIIs) were almost at the same levels at two sites, which indicates that PM1.0 pollution occurs on a regional scale in Wuhan. WSIIs(Na+, NH+ 4, K+, Mg2+, Ca2+, Cl-, NO-3and SO2-4) were the dominant chemical species and constituted up to 48.4% and 47.4% of PM1.0 at WD and TH, respectively. The concentrations of PM1.0 and WSIIs on haze days were approximately two times higher than on normal days. The ion balance calculations indicate that the particles were more acidic on haze days than on normal days. 6Changes of nutrient concentrations and N:P:Si ratios and their possible impacts on the Huanghai Sea ecosystem显示文摘To investigate the impacts of nutrient concentrations and N:P:Si ratios on the ecosystem of the Huanghai Sea (Yellow Sea), the current status and long-term variation of nutrients concentrations and ratios as well as phytoplankton community structure in the Huanghai Sea were collected and analyzed. The results reveal great annual and seasonal fluctuations in the nutrient concentrations and N:P:Si ratios during 1998-2008 with no clear pattern observed in the whole region. Yet on a seasonal scale of spring and in the coastal regions such as the Jiaozhou Bay and Sanggou Bay, the increase of DIN concentration and N:P ratio as well as the decrease of phosphate and silicate concentrations and Si:N ratios were relatively significant. Many pelagic ecosystem changes have occurred concurrent with these changes of the nutrient regime, such as the recent increase of primary production, changes of phytoplankton chlorophyll a biomass and abundance, an increase of eutrophication, and occurrence of HABs. 7Haze insights and mitigation in China: An overview显示文摘The present article provides an overview of the chemical and physical features of haze in China, focusing on the relationship between haze and atmospheric fine particles, and the formation mechanism of haze. It also summarizes several of control technologies and strategies to mitigate the occurrence of haze. The development of instruments and the analysis of measurements of ambient particles and precursor concentrations have provided important information about haze formation. Indeed, the use of new instruments has greatly facilitated current haze research in China. Examples of insightful results include the relationship between fine particles and haze, the chemical compositions and sources of particles, the impacts of the aging process on haze formation, and the application of technologies that control the formation of haze. 8Parameter identification of hysteretic model of rubber-bearing based on sequential nonlinear least-square estimation显示文摘In order to evaluate the nonlinear performance and the possible damage to rubber-bearings (RBs) during their normal operation or under strong earthquakes, a simplified Bouc-Wen model is used to describe the nonlinear hysteretic behavior of RBs in this paper, which has the advantages of being smooth-varying and physically motivated.Further, based on the results from experimental tests performed by using a particular type of RB (GZN110) under different excitation scenarios, including white noise and several earthquakes, a new system identification method, referred to as the sequential nonlinear least-square estimation (SNLSE), is introduced to identify the model parameters.It is shown that the proposed simplified Bouc-Wen model is capable of describing the nonlinear hysteretic behavior of RBs, and that the SNLSE approach is very effective in identifying the model parameters of RBs.Yin Qiang Zhou Li Wang Xinming 2010Earthquake Engineering and Engineering Vibration2010,9,3:9
9Seasonal variability of the zooplankton community in the southwest of the Huanghai Sea (Yellow Sea) Cold Water Mass显示文摘Samples were collected with a plankton net in the four seasonal cruises during 2006-2007 to study the seasonal variability of the zooplankton community in the southwest part of Huanghai Sea Cold Water Mass (HSCWM, Yellow Sea Cold Water Mass). The spatial and temporal variations of zooplankton species composition, biomass, abundance and biodiversity were examined. A total of 122 zooplankton species and 30 pelagic larvae were identified in the four cruises. Calanus sinicus and Aidanosagitta crassa were the most dominant species, and Themisto gaudichaudi and Euphausia pacifica were widely distributed in the HSCWM area. The spatial patterns of non-gelatinous zooplankton (removing the high water content groups) were similar to those of the total zooplankton biomass in autumn, but different significantly in the other three seasons. The seasonal means of zooplankton biomass in spring and summer were much higher than that in autumn and winter. The total zooplankton abundance averaged 283.5 ind./m^3 in spring (highest), 192.5 ind./m^3 in summer, 165.5 ind./m^3 in autumn and 65.9 ind./m^3 in winter (lowest), and the non-gelatinous groups contributed the most total abundance. Correlation analysis suggests that the non-gelatinous zooplankton biomass and abundance had a significant positive correlation in the whole year, but the relationship was insignificant between the total zooplankton biomass and abundance in spring and summer. The diversity index H of zooplankton community averaged 1.88 in this study, which was somewhat higher than historical results. 10Role of ammonia in forming secondary aerosols from gasoline vehicle exhaust显示文摘Ammonia(NH3) plays vital roles in new particle formation and atmospheric chemistry. Although previous studies have revealed that it also influences the formation of secondary organic aerosols(SOA) from ozonolysis of biogenic and anthropogenic volatile organic compounds(VOCs), the influence of NH3 on particle formation from complex mixtures such as vehicle exhausts is still poorly understood. Here we directly introduced gasoline vehicles exhausts(GVE) into a smog chamber with NH3 absorbed by denuders to examine the role of NH3 in particle formation from GVE. We found that removing NH3 from GVE would greatly suppress the formation and growth of particles. Adding NH3 into the reactor after 3 h photo-oxidation of GVE, the particle number concentration and mass concentrations jumped explosively to much higher levels, indicating that the numbers and mass of particles might be enhanced when aged vehicle exhausts are transported to rural areas and mixed with NH3-rich plumes. We also found that the presence of NH3 had no significant influence on SOA formation from GVE. 11Compositions and sources of organic acids in fine particles(PM_(2.5)) over the Pearl River Delta region, south China显示文摘Organic acids as important constituents of organic aerosols not only influence the aerosols' hygroscopic property, but also enhance the formation of new particles and secondary organic aerosols. This study reported organic acids including C14–C32fatty acids, C4–C9dicarboxylic acids and aromatic acids in PM2.5collected during winter 2009 at six typical urban, suburban and rural sites in the Pearl River Delta region. Averaged concentrations of C14–C32fatty acids, aromatic acids and C4– C9 dicarboxylic acids were 157, 72.5 and 50.7 ng/m3, respectively. They totally accounted for 1.7% of measured organic carbon. C20–C32fatty acids mainly deriving from higher plant wax showed the highest concentration at the upwind rural site with more vegetation around, while C14–C18fatty acids were more abundant at urban and suburban sites, and dicarboxylic acids and aromatic acids except 1,4-phthalic acid peaked at the downwind rural site. Succinic and azelaic acid were the most abundant among C4–C9dicarboxylic acids, and 1,2-phthalic and 1,4-phthalic acid were dominant aromatic acids. Dicarboxylic acids and aromatic acids exhibited significant mutual correlations except for 1,4-phthalic acid, which was probably primarily emitted from combustion of solid wastes containing polyethylene terephthalate plastics. Spatial patterns and correlations with typical source tracers suggested that C14–C32fatty acids were mainly primary while dicarboxylic and aromatic acids were largely secondary. Principal component analysis resolved six sources including biomass burning, natural higher plant wax, two mixed anthropogenic and two secondary sources; further multiple linear regression revealed their contributions to individual organic acids. 12Design of variable screw pitch rib snapping roller and residue cutter for corn harvesters显示文摘The blocking between two snapping rollers will seriously constrict the harvesting efficiency for corn harvester.A variable screw pitch rib snapping roller was developed to solve this problem.The comparative experiment between fixed screw pitch rib snapping rollers and variable screw pitch rib snapping rollers illustrated that variable screw pitch ribs can avoid corn-stalk blocking effectively,and it can improve working efficiency by 56.7%.Conservation tillage with standing corn residue was testified that it had a strong control of soil wind erosion.In order to implement this mode of conservation tillage at a production scale,a cutter was developed in this study.Subsequently,two experiments were conducted,one was to test the cutting ratio(defined as the totally cut off stalk population divided by total stalk population),and the other one was to test standing-residue height.The experiment results showed that the mean cutting ratio increased significantly(p<0.05)along with increasing height of cutter-head above the ground(cutting height);the cutting ratio’s mean value increased significantly(p<0.05)along with the decreasing angle between the cutter-head and the ground(cutting angle).The average standing-residue height increased along with the increase of cutting height from 300 mm to 500 mm.The average standing-residue height increased significantly(p<0.05)along with the decrease of cutting angle from 15°to 0°.Therefore,the newly designed snapping roller can improve the harvesting efficiency and prolong the working life of the cutting table;and the cutter can promote the popularization of the conservation tillage with standing corn residue in Northeast China.Wang Gang Jia Honglei Tang Lie Zhuang Jian Jiang Xinming Guo Mingzhuo 2016International Journal of Agricultural and Biological Engineering2016,9,1:6
13Atorvastatin protects cardiac progenitor cells from hypoxia-induced cell growth inhibition via MEG3/miR-22/HMGB1 pathway显示文摘Heart failure (HF)induced by ischemia myocardial infarction (MI)is one of the major causes of morbidity and mortality all around the world.Atorvastatin,a hydroxyrnethylglutaryl coenzyme A reductase inhibitor,has been demonstrated to benefit patients with ischemic or non-ischemicinduced HF,but the mechanism is still poorly understood.Increasing evidence indicates that IncRNAs play important role in variety of human disease.However,the role and underlying molecular mechanisms remain largely unclear.In our work,we applied 0.5%02 to generate a hypoxia cardiac progenitor cell (CPC)model.Then,CCK8 and EdU assays were employed to investigate the role of atorvastatin in hypoxia CPC cell model.We found that hypoxia inhibits CPC viability and proliferation through modulating MEG3 expression,while atorvastatin application can protect CPCs from hypoxia-induced injury through inhibiting MEG3 expression.Then,we demonstrated that repression of MEG3 inhibited the hypoxia-induced injury of CPCs and overexpression of MEG3 inhibited the protective effect of atorvastatin in the hypoxia-induced injury of CPCs.Furthermore,our study illustrated that atorvastatin played its role in CPC viability and proliferation by modulating the expression of HMGB1 through the MEG3/miR-22 pathway.Our study, for the first time,uncovered the molecular mechanism of atorvastatin's protective role in cardiomyocytes under hypoxia condition,which may provide an exploitable target in developing effective therapy drugs for MI patients.Jinwen Su Ming Fang Bei Tian Jun Luo Can Jin Xuejun Wang Zhongping Ning Xinming Li 2018Acta Biochimica et Biophysica Sinica2018,50,12:6
14Source apportionment of VOCs in a typical medium-sized city in North China Plain and implications on control policy显示文摘Characteristics of atmospheric VOCs(volatile organic compounds) have been extensively studied in megacities in China, however, they are scarcely investigated in medium/smallsized cities in North China Plain(NCP).A comprehensive research on possible sources of VOCs was conducted in a medium-sized city of NCP, from May to September 2019.A total of 143 canister samples of 8 sites in Xuchang city were collected, and 57 VOC species were detected.The average VOC concentrations were 42.6 ± 31.6 μg/m3, with 53.7 ± 31.0 μg/m3 and 32.1 ± 27.8 μg/m^(3), in the morning and afternoon, respectively.Alkenes and aromatics contributed 80% of the total ozone formation potential(OFP).Aromatics accounted for more than 95% of secondary organic aerosol potential(SOAP).VOCs were dominated by the local emission with significant transport from the southeast direction.PMF analysis extracted 6 sources, which were combustion(33.1%), LPG usage(19.3%), vehicular exhaust & fuel evaporation(15.8%), solvent usage(15.2%), industrial(9.11%) and biogenic(7.51%), respectively and they contributed 33.4%, 17.6%, 12.9%, 18.6%, 9.28% and 8.22% to the OFP, respectively.Combustion and LPG usage were the dominant VOC sources;and combustion, solvent usage and LPG usage were the main sources of OFP in Xuchang city, which were different to megacities in China with a high contribution from vehicular exhaust, solvent usage and industry,suggesting specific control strategies on VOCs need to be implemented in medium-sized city such as Xuchang city.Juanjuan Qin Xiaobo Wang Yanrong Yang Yuanyuan Qin Shaoxuan Shi Peihua Xu Rongzhi Chen Xueming Zhou Jihua Tan Xinming Wang 2021Journal of Environmental Sciences2021,33,9:6
15Rush-hour aromatic and chlorinated hydrocarbons in selected subway stations of Shanghai,China显示文摘Air samples were collected simultaneously at platform,mezzanine and outdoor in five typical stations of subway system in Shanghai,China using stainless steel canisters and analyzed by gas chromatography-mass selective detector (GC-MSD) after cryogenic pre-concentration.Benzene,toluene,ethylbenzene and xylenes (BTEX) at the platforms and mezzanines inside the stations averaged (10.3±2.1),(38.7±9.0),(19.4±10.1) and (30.0±11.1) μg/m 3,respectively;while trichloroethylene (TrCE),tetrachloroethylene (TeCE) and para-dichlorobenzene (pDCB),vinyl chloride and carbon tetrachloride were the most abundant chlorinated hydrocarbons inside the stations with average levels of (3.6±1.3),(1.3±0.5),(4.1±1.1),(2.2±1.1) and (1.2±0.3) μg/m 3,respectively.Mean levels of major aromatic and chlorinated hydrocarbons were higher indoor (platforms and mezzanines) than outdoor with average indoor/outdoor (I/O) ratios of 1.1-9.5,whereas no significant indoor/outdoor differences were found except for benzene and TrCE.The highly significant mutual correlations (p<0.01) for BTEX between indoor and outdoor and their significant correlation (p<0.05) with methyl tert-butyl ether (MTBE),a marker of traffic-related emission without other indoor and outdoor sources,indicated that BTEX were introduced into the subway stations from indoor/outdoor air exchange and traffic emission should be their dominant source.TrCE and pDCB were mainly from indoor emission and TeCE might have both indoor emission sources and contribution from outdoor air,especially in the mezzanines.Yanli Zhang Chunlei Li Xinming Wang Hai Guo Yanli Feng Jianmin Chen 2012Journal of Environmental Sciences2012,24,1:6
16Distinct potential aerosol masses under different scenarios of transport at a suburban site of Beijing显示文摘In order to evaluate the secondary aerosol formation potential at a suburban site of Beijing,in situ perturbation experiments in a potential aerosol mass(PAM) reactor were carried out in the winter of 2014.The variations of secondary aerosol formation as a function of time,OH exposure,and the concentrations of gas phase pollutants and particles were reported in this study.Two periods with distinct secondary aerosol formation potentials,marked as Period Ⅰ and Period Ⅱ,were identified during the observation.In Period Ⅰ,the secondary aerosol formation potential was high,and correlated well to the air pollutants,i.e.,SO_2,NO_2,and CO.The maximal secondary aerosol formation was observed with an aging time equivalent to about 3 days of atmospheric oxidation.In period Ⅱ,the secondary aerosol formation potential was low,with no obvious correlation with the air pollutants.Meanwhile,the aerosol mass decreased,instead of showing a peak,with increasing aging time.Backward trajectory analysis during the two periods confirmed that the air mass in Period Ⅰwas mainly from local sources,while it was attributed mostly to long distance transport in Period Ⅱ.The air lost its reactivity during the long transport and the particles became highly aged,resulting in a low secondary aerosol formation potential.Our experimental results indicated that the in situ measurement of the secondary aerosol formation potential could provide important information for evaluating the contributions of local emission and long distance transport to the aerosol pollution.Biwu Chu Yongchun Liu Qingxin Ma Jinzhu Ma Hong He Gang Wang Shuiyuan Cheng Xinming Wang 2016Journal of Environmental Sciences2016,28,1:5

18Histogram analysis of apparent diffusion coefficient predicts response to radiofrequency ablation in hepatocellular carcinoma显示文摘Objective: The aim of this study was to predict tumor progression in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC) treated with radiofrequency ablation(RFA) using histogram analysis of apparent diffusion coefficients(ADC).Methods: Breath-hold diffusion weighted imaging(DWI) was performed in 64 patients(33 progressive and 31 stable) with biopsy-proven HCC prior to RFA. All patients had pre-treatment magnetic resonance imaging(MRI)and follow-up computed tomography(CT) or MRI. The ADC values(ADC_(10), ADC_(30_, ADC_(median) and ADC_(max))were obtained from the histogram's 10 th, 30 th, 50 th and 100 th percentiles. The ratios of ADC_(10), ADC_(30_,ADCmedian and ADCmax to the mean non-lesion area-ADC(RADC_(10), RADC_(30_, RADC_(median), and RADC_(max)) were calculated. The two patient groups were compared. Key predictive factors for survival were determined using the univariate and multivariate analysis of the Cox model. The Kaplan-Meier survival analysis was performed, and pairs of survival curves based on the key factors were compared using the log-rank test.Results: The ADC_(30_, ADCmedian, ADCmax, RADC_(30_, RADC_(median), and RADC_(max) were significantly larger in the progressive group than in the stable group(P<0.05). The median progression-free survival(PFS) was 22.9 months for all patients. The mean PFS for the stable and progressive groups were 47.7±1.3 and 9.8±1.3 months,respectively. Univariate analysis indicated that RADC_(10), RADC_(30_, and RADC_(median) were significantly correlated with the PFS [hazard ratio(HR)=31.02, 43.84, and 44.29, respectively, P<0.05 for all]. Multivariate analysis showed that RADCmedian was the only independent predictor of tumor progression(P=0.04). 19Application of Multi-agent Models to Urban Expansion in Medium and Small Cities: A Case Study in Fuyang City,Zhejiang Province,China显示文摘In this study,three-phase satellite images were used to define rules for the allocation of time and space in construction land resources based on a complex adaptive system and game theory.The decision behavior and rules of government agent,enterprise agent and resident agent in construction land growth were explored.A distinctive and dynamic simulation model of construction land growth was built,which integrated multi-agent,GIS technology and RS data and described the interaction among influencing agents.Taking Fuyang City in the Changjiang River Delta as an example,an assessment process for the remote sensing data in construction land and scenario planning was constructed.Repast and ArcGIS were used as simulation platforms.A simulation of the spatial pattern in land-use planning and the setting of scenario planning were conducted by using the incomplete active game,which was based on different natural,social and economic levels.Through this model,a simulation of urban planning space and decision-making for Fuyang City was created.Relevant non-structured problems arising from urban planning management could be identified,and the process and logic of urban planning spatial decision-making could thus be improved.Cel1-by-cel1 comparison showed that the simulation accuracy was over 72%.This model has great potential for use by government and town planners in decision support and technique support in the policy-making process.ZHANG Jing WANG Ke SONG Gengxin ZHANG Zhongchu CHEN Xinming YU Zhoulu 2013Chinese Geographical Science2013,23,6:5
20Ecosystem evolution of seal colony and the influencing factors in the 20th century on Fildes Peninsula,West Antarctica显示文摘As the topmost predator in Antarctica,the seal is a unique indicator of Antarctic environment and climate changes.In this study,we collected a sediment core from the Fildes Peninsula of West Antarctica,and used cholesterol,cholestanol,epicoprostanol,coprostanol,and seal hair numbers as the proxy indicators of seal population size and phytol as of general vegetation,and we reconstructed the 20th century history of variation of the seal population and vegetation abundance on this island.The sealing industry in the early 20th century caused the dramatic decline of seal population,and the ban of seal hunting since the 1960s led to its recovery of seal population.The seal population during the past century was primarily controlled by human activities and krill density.The reconstructed relation between seal population and vegetation abundance may offer new insights into Antarctic environment and ecology.Jing Huang Liguang Sun Xinming Wang Yuhong Wang Tao Huang 2011Journal of Environmental Sciences2011,23,9:4
