It can be induced by a variety of events such as hypoxia, nutrient-starvation, and mechanical damage. Many neurological disorders such Parkinson’s disease, Alzheimer’s disease, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, Huntington’s disease, cerebral ischemia, and acute spinal cord injury (ASCI), are closely related to autophagy. 2CO2 capture over molecular basket sorbents:Effects of SiO2 supports and PEG additive显示文摘The objective of this work is to study the influences of silica supports and PEG additive on the sorption performance of molecular basket sorbent(MBS) for CO_2 capture consisting of polyethylenimine and one of the following supports: SBA-15(2-D structure), TUD-1(3-D sponge-like structure) and fumed silica HS-5(3-D disordered structure). Effects of the supports regarding pore structures and pore properties, the PEI loading amount as well as the sorption temperature were examined. Furthermore, polyethylene glycol(PEG) was introduced as an additive into the sorbents and its effect was investigated at different PEI loadings and sorption temperatures. The results suggest that the pore properties of MBS(after PEI loading) play a more important role in the CO_2 sorption capacity, rather than those of the supports alone.MBS with 3D pore structure exhibits higher CO_2 sorption capacity and amine efficiency than those with 2D-structured support. Among the sorbents studied, fumed silica(HS-5) based MBS showed the highest CO_2 sorption capacity in the temperature range of 30-95 °C, probably due to its unique interstitial pores formed by the aggregation of polymer-loaded SiO_2 particles. It was found that the temperature dependence is directly related to the PEI surface coverage layers. The more PEI surface coverage layers, the higher diffusion barrier for CO_2 and the stronger temperature dependence of CO_2 capacity. 3D MBS exceeds 2D MBS at the same PEI coverage layers due to lower diffusion barrier. 3Machine Learning Models for Genetic Risk Assessment of Infants with Non-syndromic Orofacial Cleft显示文摘The isolated type of orofacial cleft, termed non-syndromic cleft lip with or without cleft palate(NSCL/P), is the second most common birth defect in China, with Asians having the highest incidence in the world. NSCL/P involves multiple genes and complex interactions between genetic and environmental factors, imposing difficulty for the genetic assessment of the unborn fetus carrying multiple NSCL/P-susceptible variants. Although genome-wide association studies(GWAS)have uncovered dozens of single nucleotide polymorphism(SNP) loci in different ethnic populations, the genetic diagnostic effectiveness of these SNPs requires further experimental validation in Chinese populations before a diagnostic panel or a predictive model covering multiple SNPs can be built. In this study, we collected blood samples from control and NSCL/P infants inHan and Uyghur Chinese populations to validate the diagnostic effectiveness of 43 candidate SNPs previously detected using GWAS. We then built predictive models with the validated SNPs using different machine learning algorithms and evaluated their prediction performance. Our results showed that logistic regression had the best performance for risk assessment according to the area under curve. Notably, defective variants in MTHFR and RBP4, two genes involved in folic acid and vitamin A biosynthesis, were found to have high contributions to NSCL/P incidence based on feature importance evaluation with logistic regression. This is consistent with the notion that folic acid and vitamin A are both essential nutritional supplements for pregnant women to reduce the risk of conceiving an NSCL/P baby. 8Study on soybean potential productivity and food security in China under the influence of COVID-19 outbreak显示文摘The COVID-19 outbreak that became a global pandemic in early 2020 is starting to affect agricultural supply chains and leading to a rapid rise in global food prices.As many grain exporting countries announced a ban on grain exports,food security issues in China have attracted a significant international attention.Based on the Suitability Distribution Model and Soybean-Cereal Constraint Model,we explored the relationship between soybean production potential and food security.We calculated that the soybean potential planting area in China is 164.3 million ha.If the outbreak prevents China from importing soybeans,soybean planting area will need to be increased by 6.9 times to satisfy the demands.In the meantime,cereal self-sufficiency rate will drop to 63.4%,which will greatly affect food security.Each additional unit of soybean production will reduce 3.9 units of cereal production,and 1%increase in the self-sufficiency rate of soybean will result in a 0.63%drop in the self-sufficiency rate of cereal.Without sacrificing the self-sufficiency rate of cereal,the self-sufficiency rate of soybean is limited to 42%.Consequently,China will still need to import more than 68%of the current import volume of soybean.Although in the short term,the outbreak will not affect food security in China,as soybean imports decrease,insufficient supply of soybeans will affect people’s quality of life.To prevent the impact of the COVID-19 outbreak,China should increase soybean stocks and strengthen international cooperation.In the long term,increasing the self-sufficiency rate is a fundamental solution to solving soybean import dependency.The key to increasing soybean cultivation is by making soybean cultivation profitable and by building a sustainable soybean planting chain.Huizong Yao Xiaoxing Zuo Daxing Zuo Han Lin Ximeng Huang Chuanfu Zang 2020Geography and Sustainability2020,1,2:1
9Chronic Exposure to Environmentally Relevant Concentrations of Tetracycline Perturbs Gut Homeostasis in Zebrafish显示文摘The prevalence of residual antibiotics is a global threat to human health.Less is known about the potential health effects of residual antibiotics in freshwater systems.Here,zebrafish were used to explore chronic effects of environmentally relevant concentrations(ERCs)of tetracycline(TC).Although chronic exposure to TC did not significantly alter the body weight of adult zebrafish,the exposed zebrafish parents exhibited substantial changes in gut microbiota composition and a reduced gut-weight ratio.Notably,male fish exposed to TC showed a significant decline of critical intestinal function-related metabolites(i.e.,triglycerides,glucose,and free fat acid),while this was not observed in females,resulting in sex-dependency.The gut microbial composition of chronically exposed zebrafish parents changed substantially,but the disruption was not transferred to their respective offspring without exposure.However,the perturbation of insulinrelated signaling pathways caused by TC exposure was not attenuated in the zebrafish offspring after removal of TC exposure.Taken together,our findings suggest that chronic exposure to TC disturbs gut microbial communities and metabolism and exerts chronic effects on the insulin/IGF-1 mediated signaling cascades,implying that exposure to antibiotics not only leads to the selection of resistant microbes but also poses long-term deleterious health risks for the next generation.Panpan Jia Shun Deng Xiaoxing Lin Liyan Song Yangqing Wang De-Sheng Pei 2023Environment & Health2023,1,4:0

12Preparation and Characterization of CaO/ZnO Core-shell Structured Nanoparticles显示文摘Residual bacteria and microleakage in a complicated root canal can often result in reinfection of the periapical tissues.To promote the antibacterial and sealing eftects of a root canal filling,core-shell structured CaO/ZnO nanospheres were synthesized using a precipitation method based on a traditional root canal sealer,zinc oxide-eugenol(ZOE).The obtained CaO/ZnO particles had a size of 80—90 nm and a core-shell structure.The film thickness,flow rate,pH,and calcium ion release of the core-shell structured CaO/ZnO nanospheres-eugenol paste were tested.The pH and calcium ion release results showed a slight increase in the prepared nanospheres,with a flow rate of 24.22 mm and a formed film thickness of 30 pm,which are basically consistent with ISO 6876:2001 standards(regarding dental root canal sealing materials).Cytotoxicity tests showed that the cytocompatibility of the CaO/ZnO nanospheres-eugenol paste was much higher than that of the ZOE or iRoot SP groups(P<0.05).A comparison of the sealing ability and antibacterial activity showed that the core-shell structured CaO/ZnO nano spheres-eugenol paste had significantly better effects than the ZOE and iRoot SP sealers(P<0.05).The core-shell structured CaO/ZnO nano sphere paste displayed excellent sealing and antibacterial properties,and it has promising application potential in endodontics.WANG Lili LIU Yanan PENG Xiaoxing SUN Yuanqing LIU Xiaohua LIU Huimin LIN Quan SUN Hongchen YANG Bai LI Xiangwei 2020Chemical Research in Chinese Universities2020,36,5:0

15Apoptotic vesicles rejuvenate mesenchymal stem cells via Rab7-mediated autolysosome formation and alleviate bone loss in aging mice显示文摘Aging skeletons display decreased bone mass,increased marrow adiposity,and impaired bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells(MSCs).Apoptosis is a programmed cell death process that generates a large number of apoptotic vesicles(apoVs).Dysregulated apoptosis has been closely linked to senescence-associated diseases.However,whether apoVs mediate agingrelated bone loss is not clear.In this study,we showed that young MSC-derived apoVs effectively rejuvenated the nuclear abnormalities of aged bone marrow MSCs and restored their impaired self-renewal,osteo-/adipo-genic lineage differentiation capacities via activating autophagy.Mechanistically,apoptotic young MSCs generated and enriched a high level of Ras-related protein 7(Rab7)into apoVs.Subsequently,recipient aged MSCs reused apoV-derived Rab7 to restore autolysosomes formation,thereby contributing to autophagy flux activation and MSC rejuvenation.Moreover,systemic infusion of young MSC-derived apoVs enhanced bone mass,reduced marrow adiposity,and recused the impairment of recipient MSCs in aged mice.Our findings reveal the role of apoVs in rejuvenating aging-MSCs via restoring autolysosome formation and provide a potential approach for treating age-related bone loss.Fangcao Lei Zhiqing Huang Qianmin Ou Jiaqi Li Manqing Liu Lan Ma Lingping Tan Zhengmei Lin Xiaoxing Kou 2023Nano Research2023,16,1:0
