GS6, A Member of the GRAS Gene Family,Negatively Regulates Grain Size in Rice显示文摘Grain size is an important yield related trait in rice.Intensive arti cial selection for grain size during domestication is evidenced by the larger grains of most of today’s cultivars compared with their wild relatives. However, the molecular genetic control of rice grain size is still not well characterized. Here,we report the identi cation and cloning of Grain Size 6(GS6),which plays an important role in reducing grain size in rice.A premature stop at the t348 position in the coding sequence(CDS)of GS6 increased grain width and weight signi cantly.Alignment of the CDS regions of GS6 in 90 rice materials revealed three GS6alleles.Most japonica varieties(95%)harbor the Type I haplotype, and 62.9%of indica varieties harbor the Type II haplotype.Association analysis revealed that the Type I haplotype tends to increase the width and weight of grains more than either of the Type II or Type III haplotypes.Further investigation of genetic diversity and the evolutionary mechanisms of GS6showed that the GS6gene was strongly selected in japonica cultivars. In addition,a'ggc'repeat region identi ed in the region that encodes the GRAS domain of GS6 played an important historic role in the domestication of grain size in rice.Knowledge of the function of GS6might aid efforts to elucidate the molecular mechanisms that control grain development and evolution in rice plants, and could facilitate the genetic improvement of rice yield. | Lianjun Sun Xiaojiao Li Yongcai Fu Zuofeng Zhu Lubin Tan Fengxia Liu Xianyou Sun Xuewen Sun Chuanqing Sun | 2013 | Journal of Integrative Plant Biology2013,55,10: | 44
LHD1,an Allele of DTH8/Ghd8,Controls Late Heading Date in Common Wild Rice (Oryza rufipogon)显示文摘Flowering at suitable time is very important for plants to adapt to complicated environments and produce their seeds successfully for reproduction. In rice (Oryza rufipogon Griff.) photoperiod regulation is one of the important factors for controlling heading date.Common wild rice, the ancestor of cultivated rice, exhibits a late heading date and a more sensitive photoperiodic response than cultivated rice. Here, through map-based cloning,we identified a major quantitative trait loci (QTL) LHD1 (Late Heading Date 1),an allele of DTH8/Ghd8,which controls the late heading date of wild rice and encodes a putative HAP3/NF-YB/CBF-A subunit of the CCAAT-box-binding transcription factor.Sequence analysis revealed that several variants in the coding region of LHD1 were correlated with a late heading date, and a further complementary study successfully rescued the phenotype. These results suggest that a functional site for LHD1 could be among those variants present in the coding region. We also found that LHD1 could down-regulate the expression of several floral transition activators such as Ehd1,Hd3a and RFT1 under long-day conditions, but not under short-day conditions. This indicates that LHD1 may delay flowering by repressing the expression of Ehd1,Hd3a and RFT1 under long-day conditions. | Xiaodong Dai Younian Ding Lubin Tan Yongcai Fu Fengxia Liu Zuofeng Zhu Xianyou Sun Xuewen Sun Ping Gu Hongwei Cai Chuanqing Sun | 2012 | Journal of Integrative Plant Biology2012,54,10: | 23
Effects of different dietary energy and protein levels and sex on growth performance, carcass characteristics and meat quality of F1 Angus x Chinese Xiangxi yellow cattle显示文摘Background:The experiment evaluated the effect of nutrition levels and sex on the growth performance, carcass characteristics and meat quality of F1 Angus × Chinese Xiangxi yellow cattle. Methods:During the background period of 184 d,23 steers and 24 heifers were fed the same ration, then put into a2×2×2 factorial arrangement under two levels of- dietary energy(TON:70/80%DM),protein(CP:11.9/14.3%DM)and sex(S:male/female) during the finishing phase of 146 d.The treatments were-(1) high energy/low protein(HELP),(2) high energy/high protein(HEHP),(3) low energy/low protein(LELP) and(4) low energy/high protein(LEHP).Each treatment used 6 steers and 6 heifers, except for HELP- 5 steers and 6 heifers. Results:Growth rate and final carcass weight were unaffected by dietary energy and protein levels or by sex.Compared with the LE diet group, the HE group had significantly lower dry matter intake(DMI,6.76 vs.7.48 kg DM/d),greater chest girth increments(46.1 vs.36.8 cm),higher carcass fat(19.9 vs.16.3%) and intramuscular fat content(29.9 vs.22.8%DM).The HE group also had improved yields of top and medium top grade commercial meat cuts(39.9 vs.36.5%).The dressing percentage was higher for the HP group than the LP group(53.4 vs.54.9%).Steers had a greater length increment(9.0 vs.8.3 cm),but lower carcass fat content(16.8 vs.19.4%) than heifers. The meat quality traits(shear force value, drip loss, cooking loss and water holding capacity) were not affected by treatments or sex, averaging 3.14 kg,2.5,31.5 and 52.9%,respectively.The nutritive profiles(both fatty and amino acid composition) were not influenced by the energy or protein levels or by sex. Conclusions:The dietary energy and protein levels and sex significantly influenced the carcass characteristics and chemical composition of meat but not thegrowth performance, meat quality traits and nutritive profiles. | Lingyan Li Yuankui Zhu Xianyou Wang Yang He Binghai Cao | 2014 | Journal of Animal Science and Biotechnology2014,5,4: | 21
Natural Variations at TIG1 Encoding a TCP Tran scription Factor Contribute to Plant Architecture Domestication in Rice显示文摘The modification of plant architecture is a crucial target in rice domestication and modern genetic improvement.Although several genes regulating rice plant architecture have been characterized, the molecular mechanisms underlying rice plant architecture domestication remain largely unclear. Here we show that the inclined tiller growth in wild rice is controlled by a single dominant gene,TILLER INCLINED GROWTH 1 (T/Gf),which is located on chromosome 8 and encodes a TCP transcriptional activator.TIG1 is primarily expressed in the adaxial side of the tiller base, promotes cell elongation, and enlarges the tiller angle in wild rice.Variations in the TIG1 promoter of indica cultivars {tig1 allele) resulted in decreased expression of TIG1 in the adaxial side of tiller base and reduced cell length and tiller angle, leading to the transition from inclined tiller growth in wild rice to erect tiller growth during rice domestication.TIG1 positively regulates the expression of EXP A3,EXPB5,and SAUR39 to promote cell elongation and increase the tiller angle.Selective sweep analysis revealed that the tig1 allele was selected in indica cultivars by human beings. The cloning and characterization of TIG1 supports a new scenario of plant architecture evolution in rice. | Weifeng Zhang Lubin Tan Hongying Sun Xinhui Zhao Fengxia Liu Hongwei Cai Yongcai Fu Xianyou Sun Ping Gu Zuofeng Zhu Chuanqing Sun | 2019 | Molecular Plant2019,12,8: | 13
Mechanochemical preparation of sulfur-doped nanosized TiO_2 and its photocatalytic activity under visible light显示文摘In order to make nanosized TiO2 photocatalyst responsive to visible light and effectively utilize solar energy, we have, for the first time, prepared S-doped nanosized TiO2 by a mechanochemical method with hydrolysis of TiCl4. The as-prepared S-doped nanosized TiO2 possesses strong ab-sorption for visible light of 400―650 nm and shows high photocatalytic activity for decomposition of methylene blue under irradiation of visible light. The oxidation states of the S atoms incorporated into TiO2 were determined to be S6+ and S4+. The comparative study of fluorescence emission spectra shows that S-doping has also improved the separa-tion of electron-hole pairs. | ZHOU Zhiqiang ZHANG Xianyou WU Ze DONG Limin | 2005 | Chinese Science Bulletin2005,50,23: | 12
RLS3, a protein with AAA+ domain localized in chloroplast, sustains leaf longevity in rice显示文摘Leaf senescence plays an important role in crop developmental processes that dramatically affect crop yield and grain quality. The genetic regulation of leaf senescence is complex, involving many metabolic and signaling pathways. Here, we identified a rapid leaf senescence 3(rls3) mutant that displayed accelerated leaf senescence, shorter plant height and panicle length, and lower seed set rate than the wild type. Map-based cloning revealed that RLS3 encodes a protein with AAA+ domain, localizing it to chloroplasts. Sequence analysis found that the rls3 gene had a single-nucleotide substitution(G→A) at the splice site of the 10^(th)intron/11^(th) exon, resulting in the cleavage of the first nucleotide in 11 ^(th) exon and premature termination of RLS3 protein translation.Using transmission electron microscope, the chloroplasts of the rls3 mutant were observed to degrade much faster than those of the wild type. The investigation of the leaf senescence process under dark incubation conditions furtherrevealed that the rls3 mutant displayed rapid leaf senescence. Thus, the RLS3 gene plays key roles in sustaining the normal growth of rice, while loss of function in RLS3 leads to rapid leaf senescence. The identification of RLS3 will be helpful to elucidate the mechanisms involved in leaf senescence in rice. | Yanhui Lin Lubin Tan Lei Zhao Xianyou Sun Chuanqing Sun | 2016 | Journal of Integrative Plant Biology2016,58,12: | 6
All-optical manipulation of micrometer-sized metallic particles显示文摘Optical traps use focused laser beams to generate forces on targeted objects ranging in size from nanometers to micrometers. However, for their high coefficients of scattering and absorption, micrometer-sized metallic particles were deemed non-trappable in three dimensions using a single beam. This barrier is now removed. We demonstrate, both in theory and experiment, three-dimensional(3D) dynamic all-optical manipulations of micrometersized gold particles under high focusing conditions. The force of gravity is found to balance the positive axial optical force exerted on particles in an inverted optical tweezers system to form two trapping positions along the vertical direction. Both theoretical and experimental results confirm that stable 3D manipulations are achievable for these particles regardless of beam polarization and wavelength. The present work opens up new opportunities for a variety of in-depth research requiring metallic particles. | YUQUAN ZHANG XIUJIE Dou YANMENG DAI XIANYOU WANG CHANGJUN MIN AND XIAOCONG YUAN | 2018 | Photonics Research2018,6,2: | 6
Enhancing plasmonic trapping with a perfect radially polarized beam显示文摘Strong plasmonic focal spots, excited by radially polarized light on a smooth thin metallic film, have been widely applied to trap various micro-and nano-sized objects. However, the direct transmission part of the incident light leads to the scattering force exerted on trapped particles, which seriously affects the stability of the plasmonic trap. Here we employ a novel perfect radially polarized beam to solve this problem. Both theoretical and experimental results verify that such a beam could strongly suppress the directly transmitted light to reduce the piconewton scattering force, and an enhanced plasmonic trapping stiffness that is 2.6 times higher is achieved in experiments. The present work opens up new opportunities for a variety of research requiring the stable manipulations of particles. | xianyou wang yuquan zhang yanmeng dai changjun min xiaocong yuan | 2018 | Photonics Research2018,6,9: | 5
The RNA-binding protein Musashi2 governs osteoblast-adipocyte lineage commitment by suppressing PPARγsignaling显示文摘Osteoporosis caused by aging is characterized by reduced bone mass and accumulated adipocytes in the bone marrow cavity. How the balance between osteoblastogenesis and adipogenesis from bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells(BMSCs) is lost upon aging is still unclear. Here, we found that the RNA-binding protein Musashi2(Msi2) regulates BMSC lineage commitment. Msi2 is commonly enriched in stem cells and tumor cells. We found that its expression was downregulated during adipogenic differentiation and upregulated during osteogenic differentiation of BMSCs. Msi2 knockout mice exhibited decreased bone mass with substantial accumulation of marrow adipocytes, similar to aging-induced osteoporosis. Depletion of Msi2 in BMSCs led to increased adipocyte commitment. Transcriptional profiling analysis revealed that Msi2 deficiency led to increased PPARγ signaling.RNA-interacting protein immunoprecipitation assays demonstrated that Msi2 could inhibit the translation of the key adipogenic factor Cebpα, thereby inhibiting PPAR signaling. Furthermore, the expression of Msi2 decreased significantly during the aging process of mice, indicating that decreased Msi2 function during aging contributes to abnormal accumulation of adipocytes in bone marrow and osteoporosis. Thus, our results provide a putative biochemical mechanism for aging-related osteoporosis, suggesting that modulating Msi2 function may benefit the treatment of bone aging. | Jinlong Suo Sihai Zou Jinghui Wang Yujiao Han Lingli Zhang Chenchen Lv Bo Jiang Qian Ren Long Chen Lele Yang Ping Ji Xianyou Zheng Ping Hu Weiguo Zou | 2022 | Bone Research2022,10,3: | 5
Template-Free Synthesis of Sb_2S_3 Hollow Microspheres as Anode Materials for Lithium-Ion and Sodium-Ion Batteries显示文摘Hierarchical Sb_2S_3 hollow microspheres assembled by nanowires have been successfully synthesized by a simple and practical hydrothermal reaction. The possible formation process of this architecture was investigated by X-ray diffraction, focused-ion beam-scanning electron microscopy dual-beam system, and transmission electron microscopy. When used as the anode material for lithium-ion batteries, Sb_2S_3 hollow microspheres manifest excellent rate property and enhanced lithium-storage capability and can deliver a discharge capacity of 674 m Ah g^(-1) at a current density of 200 m A g^(-1) after 50 cycles. Even at a high currentdensity of 5000 m A g^(-1), a discharge capacity of541 m Ah g^(-1) is achieved. Sb_2S_3 hollow microspheres also display a prominent sodium-storage capacity and maintain a reversible discharge capacity of 384 m Ah g^(-1) at a current density of 200 m A g^(-1) after 50 cycles. The remarkable lithium/sodium-storage property may be attributed to the synergetic effect of its nanometer size and three-dimensional hierarchical architecture, and the outstanding stability property is attributed to the sufficient interior void space, which can buffer the volume expansion. | Jianjun Xie Li Liu Jing Xia Yue Zhang Min Li Yan Ouyang Su Nie Xianyou Wang | 2018 | Nano-Micro Letters2018,10,1: | 4
Renewable biomass-derived carbons for electrochemical capacitor applications显示文摘Biomass is rich, renewable, sustainable, and green resources, thereby excellent raw material for the fabrication of carbon materials. The diversity in structure and morphology of biomass are relevant in obtaining carbon materials with dif-ferent structures and performances. The inherent ordered porous structure of biomass also benefits the activation process to yield porous carbons with ultra-high specific surface area and pore volume.Besides, obtained biomass-derived carbons(BDCs)are hard carbon with porous morphology, stable structure,supe-rior hardness/strength,and good cycling performances when used in electro-chemical capacitors(ECs).The inherent N,S,P,and O elements in biomass yield naturally self-doped N,S,P,and O BDCs with unique intrinsic structures. In this paper, the synthesis approaches and applications of BDCs in ECs are reviewed. It shows that BDCs electrochemical performances are highly determined by their pore structures, specific surface areas, heteroatoms doping, graphitization degree, defects, and morphologies. The electrochemical performances of BDCs can further be improved by compositing with other materials, such as graphene, carbon nanofibers/nanotubes,transition metal oxides or hydroxides, and con-ducting polymers. The future challenges and outlooks of BDCs are also provided. | Xianyou Luo Shaorui Chen Tianzhao Hu Yong Chen Feng Li | 2021 | SusMat2021,1,2: | 3
Single-particle trapping and dynamic manipulation with holographic optical surface-wave tweezers显示文摘Optical surface waves have widely been used in optical tweezers systems for trapping particles sized from the nanoto microscale, with specific importance and needs in applications of super-resolved detection and imaging if a single particle can be trapped and manipulated accurately. However,it is difficult to achieve such trapping with high precision in conventional optical surface-wave tweezers. Here,we propose and experimentally demonstrate a new method to accurately trap and dynamically manipulate a single particle or a desired number of particles in holographic optical surface-wave tweezers.By tailoring the optical potential wells formed by surface waves,we achieved trapping of the targeted single particle while pushing away all surrounding particles and further dynamically controlling the particle by a holographic tweezers beam.We also prove that different particle samples, including gold particles and biological cells, can be applied in our system. This method can be used for different-type optical surface-wave tweezers, with significant potential applications in single-particle spectroscopy, particle sorting,nano-assembly,and others. | XI XIE XIANYOU WANG CHANGJUN MIN HAIXIANG MA YUNQI YUAN ZHANGYU ZHOU YUQUAN ZHANG JING BU XIAOCONG YUAN | 2022 | Photonics Research2022,10,1: | 3
Multifunctional geometric phase optical element for high-efficiency full Stokes imaging polarimetry显示文摘Polarization imaging finds applications in many areas, such as photoelasticity, ellipsometry, and biomedical imaging. A compact, snapshot, and high-efficiency imaging polarimeter is highly desirable for many applications. Here, based on a single multifunctional geometric phase optical element(GPOE), a new method is proposed for high-efficiency snapshot imaging polarimetry. With tailored spatially varying orientation of each anisotropic unit cell, the GPOE works highly efficiently as both a spin sorter and a half-wave plate, enabling snapshot retrieving of a full Stokes vector of incident light. The designed GPOE is implemented in the form of liquid crystal fabricated with a photo-alignment technology, and its application in imaging polarimetry is experimentally demonstrated by retrieving full Stokes parameters of a cylinder vector beam. | 16 | Synthesis of hexagonal barium ferrite nanoparticle by sol-gel method显示文摘M-type Ba hexaferrites were successfully synthesized by sol-gel method. Several synthesizing factors, such as pH value, citric acid/metal ion ratio, and dispersion agent were mainly discussed. Fine and pure powders of BaFe12O19 were optimally synthesized under the conditions of the pH value is 7 and citric acid/metal ion ratio is 3. The X-ray diffraction analysis demonstrates that no impurity is observed in the synthesized powders after presintered at 450 ℃ and calcinated at 1100 ℃. SEM observations indicate that the size of the synthesized BaFe12O19 powders is small and uniform distribution. It can also be learned from SEM that the co-synthesizing sol-gel method can be in favor of the formation of finer particles. | DONG Limin HAN Zhidong ZHANG Yaoming WU Ze ZHANG Xianyou | 2006 | Rare Metals2006,25,z1: | 2

A gain-of-function mutation of OsMAPK6 leads to long grain in rice显示文摘Grain size is one of the most important agronomic traits controlling grain yield. Development of novel germplasm with large grains would be beneficial for crop improvement. We report the genetic identification and functional analysis of the LONG GRAIN 6(LOG6) gene, which is identical to MITOGENACTIVATED PROTEIN KINASE 6(OsMAPK6), affecting grain length of rice. Map-based cloning revealed that the long-grain phenotype of log6-D results from a glutamine(E) to lysine(K) mutation in the conserved TEY motif of OsMAPK6. In near-isogenic lines(NILs), the log6-D allele increased grain length and grain yield of Guichao 2(GC2), Teqing(TQ), and 93–11. Sequence analysis revealed 10 OsMAPK6 haplotypes, with xian(indica) and geng(japonica) harboring different haplotypes. Our findings shed light on the function of MAPKs and offer a novel dominant allele for improving the grain yield of rice. | Lina Xiong Lubin Tan Ran Xu Zuofeng Zhu Xianyou Sun Hongying Sun Chuanqing Sun | 2021 | The Crop Journal2021,9,6: | 1
