1Altitude dependency of trends of daily climate extremes in southwestern China, 1961-2008显示文摘A total of 12 indices of temperature extremes and 11 indices of precipitation ex-tremes at 111 stations in southwestern China at altitudes of 285-4700 m were examined for the period 1961-2008. Significant correlations of temperature extremes and elevation in-cluded the trends of diurnal temperature range, frost days, ice days, cold night frequency and cold day frequency. Regional trends of growing season length, warm night frequency, coldest night and warmest night displayed a statistically significant positive correlation with altitude. These characteristics indicated the obvious warming with altitude. For precipitation extreme indices, only the trends of consecutive dry days, consecutive wet days, wet day precipitation and the number of heavy precipitation days had significant correlations with increasing alti-tude owing to the complex influence of atmospheric circulation. It also indicated the increased precipitation mainly at higher altitude areas, whereas the increase of extreme precipitation events mainly at lowers altitude. In addition, the clearly local influences are also crucial on climate extremes. 2Biochar and its importance on nutrient dynamics in soil and plant显示文摘Biochar,an environmentally friendly soil conditioner,is produced using several thermochemical processes.It has unique characteristics like high surface area,porosity,and surface charges.This paper reviews the fertilizer value of biochar,and its effects on soil properties,and nutrient use efficiency of crops.Biochar serves as an important source of plant nutrients,especially nitrogen in biochar produced from manures and wastes at low temperature(≤400℃).The phosphorus,potassium,and other nutrient contents are higher in manure/waste biochars than those in crop residues and woody biochars.The nutrient contents and pH of biochar are positively correlated with pyrolysis temperature,except for nitrogen content.Biochar improves the nutrient retention capacity of soil,which depends on porosity and surface charge of biochar.Biochar increases nitrogen retention in soil by reducing leaching and gaseous loss,and also increases phosphorus availability by decreasing the leaching process in soil.However,for potassium and other nutrients,biochar shows inconsistent(positive and negative)impacts on soil.After addition of biochar,porosity,aggregate stability,and amount of water held in soil increase and bulk density decreases.Mostly,biochar increases soil pH and,thus,influences nutrient availability for plants.Biochar also alters soil biological properties by increasing microbial populations,enzyme activity,soil respiration,and microbial biomass.Finally,nutrient use efficiency and nutrient uptake improve with the application of biochar to soil.Thus,biochar can be a potential nutrient reservoir for plants and a good amendment to improve soil properties.Md Zahangir Hossain Md Mezbaul Bahar Binoy Sarkar Scott Wilfred Donne Young Sik Ok Kumuduni Niroshika Palansooriya Mary Beth Kirkham Saikat Chowdhury Nanthi Bolan 2020Biochar2020,2,4:15

5Survey of Genomics Approaches to Improve Bioenergy Traits in Maize,Sorghum and Sugarcane显示文摘Bioenergy crops currently provide the only source of alternative energy with the potential to reduce the use of fossil transportation fuels in a way that is compatible with existing engine technology,including in developing countries.Even though bioenergy research is currently receiving considerable attention,many of the concepts are not new,but rather build on intense research efforts from 30 years ago.A major difference with that era is the availability of genomics tools that have the potential to accelerate crop improvement significantly.This review is focused on maize,sorghum and sugarcane as representatives of bioenergy grasses that produce sugar and/or lignocellulosic biomass.Examples of how genetic mapping,forward and reverse genetics,highthroughput expression profiling and comparative genomics can be used to unravel and improve bioenergy traits will be presented.Wilfred Vermerris 2011Journal of Integrative Plant Biology2011,53,2:9

7Chemical Composition of Aerosol and Fresh Snow and Tourism Influences at Baishui Glacier No.1 from Mt. Yulong,Southeastern Tibetan Plateau显示文摘Aerosol and snow samples were collected at ablation zone of Baishui(白水) Glacier No.1,Mt.Yulong(玉龙),from May to June,2006.The concentrations of Cl-,NO3-,SO42-,Na+,K+,Mg2+,and Ca2+ were determined by ion chromatograph both in aerosol and snow samples.The average totalaerosol loading is 25.45 neq·scm-1,NO3-and Na+ are the dominant soluble ions in the aerosol,accounting for 39% and 21% of average total aerosol loading,respectively.Monsoon circulation reduces the concentration of most ions,indicating that wet scavenging is effective for aerosol particles.In snow samples,SO42-and Ca2+ are the dominant anion and cation,respectively.A lower Na+/Cl-ratio was found in fresh snow samples compared to the higher ratio that was found in aerosol samples.Analyzing the difference in SO42-and NO3-in air and fresh snow indicated that the aerosol was influenced by local circulation,but the components in fresh snow samples were from long-distance transport.Enrichment of NO3-in aerosol samples is attributed to motor exhaust emissions from tourism by calculating the SO42-/NO3-ratio in aerosol and fresh snow samples.The temporal variation and correlation coefficients between soluble species in aerosol samples suggest that Cl-,Na+ and K+ come from sea-salt aerosol,and SO42-,Mg2+ and Ca2+ are from continental crust sources.张宁宁 何元庆 Wilfred H Theakstone 庞洪喜 2010Journal of Earth Science2010,21,2:7
8Antibacterial activity of selected ethnomedicinal plants from South India显示文摘Objective:To screen the antimicrobial potential of three ethnomedicinal plants Chassalia curviflora Thw.(C.curviflora),Cyclea peltata Hook.F.& Thomson(C.peltata) and Euphorbia hirta L(E.hirta) used in folk medicines in Aarukani hills Kani tribe,Tamil Nadu,India against human bacterial pathogens.Methods:Antibacterial efficacy was performed by disc diffusion method against the pathogens viz.,Escherichia coli(E.coli)(ATCC 35218),Staphylococcus aureus (S.aureus)(ATCC 6538),Salmonella typhi(S.typhi)(MTCC 733),Proteus vulgaris(P.vulgaris), Proteus mirabilis(P.mirabilis) and Streptococcus pyogenes(S.pyogenes) and incubated for 24 h at 37°C.Results:The maximum degree of antibacterial activity was observed in C.peltata followed by C.curviflora.While E.hirta showed comparatively low degree of antibacterial activity.The methanolic extract of C.peltata showed the antibacterial activity against three pathogens viz.,S.pyogenes,P.vulgaris and E.coli with the inhibition zones 12 mm,10 mm and 9 mm,respectively,hexane extracts of C.peltata also showed the antibacterial activity against two selected pathogens viz.,P.vulgaris and P.mirabilis with 15 mm and 12 mm of inhibition zones.All the three different concentrations(025,0.50 & 0.75 mg/mL) of methanolic extract of C. peltata show the inhibitory effect on the three susceptible bacteria S.pyogenes,P.vulgaris and E. coli with the maximum inhibition in the highest concentration(0.75 mg/mL).The methanolic and hexane extracts of C.curviflora exhibited the antibacterial activity against only one bacterium each i.e.P.vulgaris and S.typhi with the maximum zone of inhibition 13 and 11 mm respectively. The methanolic and hexane extracts of E.hirta exhibited the antibacterial activity against only one bacterium Le.S.pyogenes with the maximum zone of inhibition 13 and 11 mm respectively. 9Role of Positive Selection Pressure on the Evolution of H5N1 Hemagglutinin显示文摘The surface glycoprotein hemagglutinin (HA) helps the influenza A virus to evade the host immune system by antigenic variation and is a major driving force for viral evolution. In this study, the selection pressure on HA of H5N1 influenza A virus was analyzed using bioinformatics algorithms. Most of the identified positive selection (PS) sites were found to be within or adjacent to epitope sites. Some of the identified PS sites are consistent with previous experimental studies, providing further support to the biological significance of our findings. The highest frequency of PS sites was observed in recent strains isolated during 2005–2007. Phylogenetic analysis was also conducted on HA sequences from various hosts. Viral drift is almost similar in both avian and human species with a progressive trend over the years. Our study reports new mutations in functional regions of HA that might provide markers for vaccine design or can be used to predict isolates of pandemic potential.Venkata R.S.K. 11Altitude Effects of Climatic Variation on Tibetan Plateau and Its Vicinities显示文摘High topographies,such as the Tibetan plateau(TP) in China,have been considered as the sensitive areas in response to global climate change.By analyzing the relationship between warming structure and altitude(1000-5000m) in the TP and its vicinities using the 46-year January mean observed temperature data,we found that there was a significant altitude effect of temperature warming onset time(mutation time) on the plateau and the neighboring regions:the higher the altitude,the later the climate warming happens,and vice versa.There also seems a slight altitude effect on warming magnitude:the higher the altitude,the less the warming magnitude.Therefore,the temperature warming in the high altitude area of the TP(below 5000 m) responds to global warming less sensitively than the low-altitude neighboring areas both in onset time and magnitude,which may be mainly caused by high albedo and large thermal capacity of the ice/snow cover on the higher part of the plateau and possible heat island effect in the lower part of the plateau.卢爱刚 康世昌 李宗省 Wilfred H Theakstone 2010Journal of Earth Science2010,21,2:5

13Climate Change and Its Effect on Annual Runoff in Lijiang Basin-Mt. Yulong Region,China显示文摘Based on the meteorological and hydrologic data in the Lijang(丽江) basin from 1979 to 2006,variational trend and characteristics of climate change and its effect on runoff in Yanggong(漾弓) River were examined in the study.The results show that the temperature have significantly increased in the drainage basin during the past 28 years.The average temperature increased markedly from 1979 to 2006,and the increase of temperature in winter was higher than those in other seasons.The annual precipitation varied with a slightly upward trend in the same period,suggesting that the increase mainly occurred in spring and summer while the decrease occurred in autumn and winter.The streamflow at Yanggong River showed a significant increasing trend.During the four seasons,spring experienced the most significant increase,and autumn experienced the smallest.On the basis of the above study,we found that the increasing trend in runoff was more significant than the increase in precipitation in the study area.That was the synactic results of variation of groundwater,ice-snow meltwater and precipitation caused by global climate change.何元庆 蒲焘 李宗省 朱国锋 王世金 张宁宁 王淑新 辛惠娟 Wilfred H Theakstone 杜建括 2010Journal of Earth Science2010,21,2:4
14基于离子液的超声辅助萃取小蓼叶中的精油及真实溶剂似导体屏蔽模型研究显示文摘Ionic liquids ( ILs) based ultrasonic-assisted extract has been applied for the extraction of essential oil from Persicaria minor leaves. The effects of temperature,sonication time,and particle size of the plant material on the yield of essential oil were investigated. Among the different ILs employed,1-ethyl-3-methyli midazolium acetate was the most effective,providing a 9. 55% yield of the essential oil under optimum conditions( 70 ℃,25 min,IL ∶hexane ratio of 7 ∶10 ( v /v) ,particle size 60-80 mesh) . The performance of 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium acetate in the extraction was attributed to its lowviscosity and ability to disintegrate the structural matrix of the plant material. The ability of 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium acetate was also confirmed using the conductor like-screening model for realistic solvents. 15Characterization of novel Brown midrib 6 mutations affecting lignin biosynthesis in sorghum显示文摘The presence of lignin reduces the quality of lignocellulosic biomass for forage materials and feedstock for biofuels. In C4 grasses,the brown midrib phenotype has been linked to mutations to genes in the monolignol biosynthesis pathway. For example,the Bmr6 gene in sorghum(Sorghum bicolor) has been previously shown to encode cinnamyl alcohol dehydrogenase(CAD),which catalyzes the final step of the monolignol biosynthesis pathway. Mutations in this gene have been shown to reduce the abundance of lignin,enhance digestibility,and improve saccharification efficiencies and ethanol yields. Nine sorghum lines harboring five different bmr6 alleles were identified in an EMS-mutagenized TILLING population. DNA sequencing of Bmr6 revealed that the majority of the mutations impacted evolutionarily conserved amino acids while three-dimensional structural modeling predicted that all of these alleles interfered with the enzyme's ability to bind with its NADPH cofactor. All of the new alleles reduced in vitro CAD activity levels and enhanced glucose yields following saccharification. Further,many of these lines were associated with higher reductions in acid detergent lignin compared to lines harboring the previously characterized bmr6-ref allele. 17Utilization of autoclaved and fermented sesame(Sesamum indicum L.) seed meal in diets for Til-aqua natural male tilapia显示文摘Current research emphasis has been on the reduction of feed cost by incorporating processed sesame seed meal in the diet of tilapia. Raw sesame(Sesamum indicum) seed was soaked and subjected to either autoclaving or fermentation, after which their oil contents were mechanically extracted. Graded levels of autoclaved(71.2,165,5 and 296.3 g/kg designated as diets 1, 2 and 3, respectively) and fermented(71.0,164.3 and 292,2 g/kg designated as diets 4, 5 and 6, respectively) sesame seed meal were included into fishmeal based diets for Til-aqua natural male tilapia(NMT) fry(initial weight,1.69 ± 0.02 g), A diet without sesame seed meal served as the control. Diets were approximately iso-nitrogenous(35% crude protein). Fish were fed 5 times their maintenance requirement, which was 3.2 x 5 x [fish weight(g)/1,000]^(0.8) daily for 56 days. Processing improved the nutritional profile of raw sesame seed meal in terms of its crude protein and antinutrient compositions. Growth performance of fish was similar(P> 0.05) in the control and dietary treatments. The group fed diet 3 exhibited significantly poorer feed conversion ratio(1.14), protein efficiency ratio(2.77) and economic conversion ratio(US$1.38/kg) relative to the group that received diet 5. Apparent digestibility coefficients for protein, lipid and energy in diet 3 were similar(P > 0.05) to those in diet 6 but significantly lower(P < 0.05) than those of the control and other dietary groups. The sesame seed meals processed with different methods did not significantly affect crude protein, crude lipid and gross energy compositions in the fish carcass.
