1On comparison of modified ADRCs for nonlinear uncertain systems with time delay显示文摘To tackle systems with both uncertainties and time delays, several modified active disturbance rejection control(ADRC) methods, including delayed designed ADRC(DD-ADRC), polynomial based predictive ADRC(PP-ADRC), Smith predictor based ADRC(SP-ADRC) and predictor observer based ADRC(PO-ADRC), have been proposed in the past years. This paper is aimed at rigorously investigating the performance of these modified ADRCs, such that the improvements of each method can be demonstrated.The capability to tackle time delay, the necessity of stable open loop and the performance of rejecting uncertainties for these methods are fully studied and compared. It is proven that large time delay cannot be tolerated for the stability of the closed-loop systems based on DD-ADRC and PP-ADRC. Moreover, stable open loop is shown to be necessary for stabilizing the closed-loop systems based on SP-ADRC. Furthermore,the performance of rejecting the 'total disturbance' at low frequency for these modified ADRCs is evaluated and quantitatively discussed. 2Tuning of Sampled-Data ADRC for Nonlinear Uncertain Systems显示文摘This paper concerns with the parameters tuning of active disturbance rejection control(ADRC) for a class of nonlinear systems with sampling rate not fast enough. The theoretical results show the quantitative relationship between the sampling rate, the parameters of ADRC, the size of uncertainties in system and the properties of the closed-loop system. 3Radar Target Recognition Algorithm Based on RCS Observation Sequence——Set-Valued Identification Method显示文摘This paper studies the problem of radar target recognition based on radar cross section(RCS)observation sequence.First,the authors compute the discrete wavelet transform of RCS observation sequence and extract a valid statistical feature vector containing five components.These five components represent five different features of the radar target.Second,the authors establish a set-valued model to represent the relation between the feature vector and the authenticity of the radar target.By set-valued identification method,the authors can estimate the system parameter,based on which the recognition criteria is given.In order to illustrate the efficiency of the proposed recognition method,extensive simulations are given finally assuming that the true target is a cone frustum and the RCS of the false target is normally distributed.The results show that the set-valued identification method has a higher recognition rate than the traditional fuzzy classification method and evidential reasoning method.WANG Ting BI Wenjian ZHAO Yanlong XUE Wenchao 2016Journal of Systems Science & Complexity2016,29,3:7
4On extended state based Kalman filter design for a class of nonlinear time-varying uncertain systems显示文摘This paper considers the filtering problem for a class of multi-input multi-output systems with nonlinear time-varying uncertain dynamics, random process and measurement noise. An extended state based Kalman filter, with the idea of timely estimating the unknown dynamics, is proposed for better robustness and higher estimation precision. The stability of the proposed filter is rigorously proved for nonlinear timevarying uncertain system with weaker stability condition than the extended Kalman filter, i.e., the initial estimation error, the uncertain dynamics and the noises are only required to be bounded rather than small enough. Moreover, quantitative precision of the proposed filter is theoretically evaluated. The proposed algorithm is proved to be the asymptotic unbiased minimum variance filter for constant uncertainty. 5On Designing Consistent Extended Kalman Filter显示文摘This paper studies the consistency of the extended Kalman filter(EKF) for a kind of nonlinear systems. Based on the EKF algorithm, the authors propose the quasi-consistent EKF(QCEKF)as well as the tuning law for its parameters. 7Active Disturbance Rejection Control for PMLM Servo System in CNC Machining显示文摘Uncertain friction is a key factor that influences the accuracy of servo system in CNC machine.In this paper,based on the principle of Active Disturbance Rejection Control(ADRC),a control method is proposed,where both the extended state observer(ESO) and the reduced order extended state observer(RESO) are used to estimate and compensate for the disturbance.The authors prove that both approaches ensure high accuracy in theory,and give the criterion for parameters selection.The authors also prove that ADRC with RESO performs better than that with ESO both in disturbance estimation and tracking error.The simulation results on CNC machine show the effectiveness and feasibility of our control approaches.GUO Jianxin XUE Wenchao HU Tao 2016Journal of Systems Science & Complexity2016,29,1:5
8Expression of the DNA-repair protein XRCC1 and DNA-repair enzyme Ku70 mRNA in the rat cerebral cortex following global cerebral ischemia/reperfusion Is this correlated with neuroprotective effects of theanine?显示文摘BACKGROUND: Numerous studies have shown that apoptosis, caused by cerebral ischemia/reperfusion injury, is a dynamic evolving process that occurs in a time-dependent fashion. Non-apoptotic cells can result in apoptosis, with a prolonged reperfusion period and an accumulation of DNA damage. Recent studies have indicated that theanine has a protective effect on the brain. Nonetheless, there is no research relating to whether theanine is neuroprotective following brain injury. OBJECTIVE: To investigate the effects of theanine on apoptosis in the cerebral cortex and mRNA expression of the DNA repair protein, XRCC1, and DNA repair enzyme, Ku70, at various time points following global cerebral ischemia/reperfusion in rats. DESIGN, TIME AND SETTING: A randomized, controlled animal study was performed at the Pharmacological Laboratory of Animal Experimental Center of Xi'an Jiaotong University, China, from April to October 2007. MATERIALS: Theanine (Wuhan Remote Technology Co., Ltd., China), XRCC1, Ku70 and GAPDH primers (Shanghai Sangon Biological Engineering Technology & Services Co., Ltd., China) were used in this study. METHODS: A total of 108 healthy, male Sprague Dawley rats were randomly divided into sham operation, ischemia/reperfusion and theanine groups. Each group was further divided into 6 sub- groups, with six rats in each, according to reperfusion time (2, 6, 12, 24, 48 and 72 hours). Rat models of global cerebral ischemia/reperfusion were established by the four-vessel occlusion method. Theanine (1 000 mg/kg) was injected into the caudal vein of rats in the theanine group immediately after surgery. Saline (4 mL/kg) was used in the sham operation and ischemia/reperfusion groups. The same dose was administered every 24 hours. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: Flow cytometry was employed to determine apoptosis of cerebral cortical neurons. Real-time reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction was applied to quantify the expression of XRCC1 and Ku70 mRNA in the cerebral cortex. RESULTS: The apoptotic rate in the ischemia/reperfusion group was significantly greater compared with the sham operation group at various time points (P < 0.05). The apoptotic rate in the theanine group was significantly diminished compared with the ischemia/reperfusion group, but significantly increased compared with the sham operation group at 6, 12, 24, 48 and 72 hours (P < 0.05). Ex- pression of XRCC1 and Ku70 mRNA was significantly decreased in the ischemia/reperfusion group compared with the sham operation group at 2, 6, 12, 24, 48 and 72 hours (P < 0.05). The relative expression of XRCC1 mRNA in the theanine group was significantly increased compared with the ischemia/reperfusion group, but significantly reduced compared with the sham operation group at 6, 12, 24, 48 and 72 hours (P < 0.05). The relative expression of Ku70 mRNA was significantly lower in the theanine group compared with the sham operation group at 2, 6 and 12 hours (P < 0.05) and significantly greater than the ischemia/reperfusion group at 6, 12, 24, 48 and 72 hours (P < 0.05). CONCLUSION: The apoptotic rate in rats following global cerebral ischemia/reperfusion injury reaches a peak at 24 hours after reperfusion; however, the levels of DNA repair protein began to decrease after only 2 hours of reperfusion. 9Excitation-emission matrix (EEM) fluorescence spectroscopy for characterization of organic matter in membrane bioreactors: Principles, methods and applications显示文摘The membrane bioreactor(MBR)technology is a rising star for wastewater treatment.The pollutant elimination and membrane fouling performances of MBRs are essentially related to the dissolved organic matter(DOM)in the system.Three-dimensional excitation-emission matrix(3D-EEM)fluorescence spectroscopy,a powerful tool for the rapid and sensitive characterization of DOM,has been extensively applied in MBR studies;however,only a limited portion of the EEM fingerprinting information was utilized.This paper revisits the principles and methods of fluorescence EEM,and reviews the recent progress in applying EEM to characterize DOM in MBR studies.We systematically introduced the information extracted from EEM by considering the fluorescence peak location/intensity,wavelength regional distribution,and spectral deconvolution(giving fluorescent component loadings/scores),and discussed how to use the information to interpret the chemical compositions,physiochemical properties,biological activities,membrane retention/fouling behaviors,and migration/transformation fates of DOM in MBR systems.In addition to conventional EEM indicators,novel fluorescent parameters are summarized for potential use,including quantum yield,Stokes shift,excited energy state,and fluorescence lifetime.The current limitations of EEM-based DOM characterization are also discussed,with possible measures proposed to improve applications in MBR monitoring.Jinlan Yu Kang Xiao Wenchao Xue Yue-xiao Shen Jihua Tan Shuai Liang Yanfen Wang Xia Huang 2020Frontiers of Environmental Science & Engineering2020,14,2:3
10Techno-economic characteristics of wastewater treatment plants retrofitted from the conventional activated sludge process to the membrane bioreactor process显示文摘While a growing number of wastewater treatment plants(WWTPs)are being retrofitted from the conventional activated sludge(CAS)process to the membrane bioreactor(MBR)process,the debate on the techno-economy of MBR vs.CAS has continued and calls for a thorough assessment based on techno-economic valuation.In this study,we analyzed the operating data of 20 large-scale WWTPs(capacity≥10000 m^(3)/d)and compared their techno-economy before and after the retrofitting from CAS to MBR.Through cost-benefit analysis,we evaluated the net profit by subtracting the operating cost from the environmental benefit(estimated by the shadow price of pollutant removal and water reclamation).After the retrofitting,the removal rate of pollutants increased(e.g.,from 89.0%to 93.3%on average for NH3-N),the average energy consumption increased from 0.40 to 0.57 kWh/m^(3),but the operating cost did not increase significantly.The average marginal environmental benefit increased remarkably(from 0.47 to 0.66 CNY/g for NH3-N removal),leading to an increase in the average net profit from 19.4 to 24.4 CNY/mJ.We further scored the technical efficiencies via data envelopment analysis based on non-radial directional distance functions.After the retrofitting,the relative cost efficiency increased from 0.70 to 0.73(the theoretical maximum is 1),while the relative energy efficiency did not change significantly.The techno-economy is closely related to the effluent standard adopted,particularly when truncating the extra benefit of pollutant removal beyond the standard in economic modeling.The modeling results suggested that MBR is more profitable than CAS given stricter effluent standards.Tingwei Gao Kang Xiao Jiao Zhang Wenchao Xue Chunhai Wei Xiaoping Zhang Shuai Liang Xiaomao Wang Xia Huang 2022Frontiers of Environmental Science & Engineering2022,16,4:1

12Roles of membrane and organic fouling layers on the removal of endocrine disrupting chemicals in microfiltration显示文摘To understand the adsorption behavior of endocrine disrupting chemicals(EDCs) is important for enhancing the treatment performance and preventing potential secondary pollution caused by EDCs desorption in a microfiltration system. The dynamic adsorption of four representative EDCs, namely estriol(E3), 17β-estradiol(E2), 17α-ethynylestradiol(EE2), and 4-nonylphenol(4-NP) in a microfiltration system was investigated using the Thomas' model.The product of the equilibrium constant and the total adsorption capacity of the membrane,Ka, for E3, E2, EE2, and 4-NP were 4.91, 9.78, 15.6, and 826, respectively, strongly correlating with the compound octanol–water partition coefficient(KOW). Adsorption appeared to be enhanced when organic fouling formed on the surface of membrane, indicating the role of an additional adsorption column for EDCs acted by a fouling layer in microfiltration. Results of a comparison between the Ka values for clean membrane and fouled membrane illustrated that the significant contribution made by fouling layers may be attributed to the foulant layer's hydrophobicity(in the case of calcium humate layer) and thickness(in the case of calcium alginate layer). 13Sea salt bittern-driven forward osmosis for nutrient recovery from black water: A dual waste-to-resource innovation via the osmotic membrane process显示文摘A dual“waste-to-resource”innovation in nutrient enrichment and recovery from domestic black water using a sea salt bittern(SSB)-driven forward osmosis(FO)process is proposed and demonstrated.The performance of SSB as a“waste-to-resource”draw solution for FO was first evaluated.A synthetic SSB-driven FO provided a water flux of25.67±3.36 L/m2 h,which was 1.5-1.7 times compared with synthetic seawater,1 M NaCl,and 1M MgCL.Slightly compromised performance regarding reverse solute selectivity was observed.In compensation,the enhanced reverse diffusion of Mg+suggested superior potential in terms of recovering nutrients in the form of struvite precipitation.The nutrient enrichment was performed using both the pre-filtered influent and effluent of a domestic septic tank.Over 80%of phosphate-P recovery was achieved from both low-and high-strength black water at a feed volume reduction up to 80%^90%.With an elevated feed pH(~9),approximately 60%-85%enriched phosphate-P was able to be recovered in the form of precipitated stuvite.Whereas the enrichment performance of total Kjeldahl nitrogen(TKN)largely differed depending on the strength of black water.Improved concentration factor(i.e.,3-folds)and retention(>60%)of TKN was obtained in the high-nutrient-strength black water at a feed volume reduction of 80%,in comparison with a weak TKN enrichment observed in low-strength black water.The results suggested a good potential for nutrient recovery based on this dual“waste-to-resource”FO system with proper management of membrane cleaning.Wenchao Xue May Zaw Xiaochan An Yunxia Hu Allan Sriratana Tabucanon 2020Frontiers of Environmental Science & Engineering2020,14,2:1

18Transparent exopolymer particles(TEPs)-associated protobiofilm:A neglected contributor to biofouling during membrane filtration显示文摘Transparent exopolymer particles(TEPs)are a class of transparent gel-like polysaccharides,which have been widely detected in almost every kind of feed water to membrane systems,including freshwater,seawater and wastewater.Although TEP have been thought to be related to the membrane fouling,little information is currently available for their influential mechanisms and the pertinence to biofouling development.The present study,thus,aims to explore the impact of TEPs on biofouling development during ultrafiltration.TEP samples were inoculated with bacteria for several hours before filtration and the formation of“protobiofilm”(pre-colonized TEP by bacteria)was examined and its influence on biofouling was determined.It was observed that the bacteria can easily and quickly attach onto TEPs and form protobiofilms.Ultrafiltration experiments further revealed that TEP-protobiofilms served as carriers which facilitated and accelerated transport of bacteria to membrane surface,leading to rapid development of biofouling on the ultrafiltration membrane surfaces.Moreover,compared to the feed water containing independent bacteria and TEPs,more flux decline was observed with TEP-protobiofilms.Consequently,it appeared from this study that TEP-protobiofilms play a vital role in the development of membrane biofouling,but unfortunately,this phenomenon has been often overlooked in the literature.Obviously,these findings in turn may also challenge the current understanding of organic fouling and biofouling as membrane fouling caused by TEP-protobiofilm is a combination of both.It is expected that this study might promote further research in general membrane fouling mechanisms and the development of an effective mitigation strategy.Shujuan Meng Rui Wang Kaijing Zhang Xianghao Meng Wenchao Xue Hongju Liu Dawei Liang Qian Zhao Yu Liu 2021Frontiers of Environmental Science & Engineering2021,15,4:0
