| 1 | The adsorption behavior of metals in aqueous solution by microplastics effected by UV radiation显示文摘Microplastics are considered as the carrier to heavy metals in the environment.But the sorption ability of microplastics influenced by photo-aging is remaining unclear.In the present study,the sorption of two kinds of metal ions(Cu^2+ and Zn^2+)in the aqueous solution by both the virgin and aged microplastics was investigated.Polyethylene terephthalate(PET)debris,one of the typical kinds of microplastics was chosen in this study.Photo-aging of microplastics in environment was simulated using UV radiation in the laboratory.Date analysis indicated that the aged microplastics had higher adsorption capacity of heavy metals than original ones.This could be related to the increased surface area and oxygen containing function appeared in the surface of aged microplastics after UV radiation.When prolonging the time of radiation,the enhanced adsorption capacities of microplastics appeared for Cu^2+ and Zn^2+.These results showed a great interaction between the aging degree of plastics and sorption capacity to heavy metals.Meanwhile,external conditions including temperature and pH value were also showed great influence to the adsorption behavior. | Qiongjie Wang Yong Zhang Xiaoxue Wangjin Yulai Wang Guanhua Meng Yihua Chen | 2020 | Journal of Environmental Sciences2020,32,1: | 47 |
| 2 | Performance of a subsurface-flow constructed wetland in Southern China显示文摘The operational performance of a full scale subsurface flow constructed wetland, which treated the mixed industrial and domestic wastewater with BOD 5/COD mean ratio of 0 33 at Shatian, Shenzhen City was studied. The constructed wetland system consists of screens, sump, pumping station, and primary settling basin, facultative pond, first stage wetland and secondary stage wetland. The designed treatment capacity is 5000 m 3/d, and the actual influent flow is in the range of <2000 to >10000 m 3/d. Under normal operational conditions, the final effluent quality well met the National Integrated Wastewater Discharge Standard(GB 8978\1996), with the following parameters(mean values): COD 33 90 mg/L, BOD 5 7.65 mg/L, TSS 7.92 mg/L, TN 9.11 mg/L and TP 0 56 mg/L. Seven species of plants were selected to grow in the wetland: Reed, Sweetcane flower Silvergrass, Great Bulrush, Powdery Thalia and Canna of three colours. The growing season is a whole year round. The seasonal discrepancy could be observed and the plants growing in the wetland are vulnerable to lower temperature in winter. The recycling of the effluent in the first stage of the wetland system is an effective measure to improve the performance of the wetland system. The insufficient DO value in the wetland system not only had significant effect on pollutants removal in the wetland, but also was unfavourable to plant growth. | 3 | Molecular Characterization of a Leaf Senescence-Related Transcription Factor BrWRKY75 of Chinese Flowering Cabbage显示文摘WRKY is a plant-specific transcription factor(TF) involved in the regulation of many biological processes; however, its role in leaf senescence of leafy vegetables remains unknown. In the present work, a WRKY TF, termed Br WRKY75 was isolated from Chinese flowering cabbage [Brassica rapa L. ssp. chinensis(L.) Mokino var. utilis Tsen et Lee]. Analysis of deduced amino acid sequence and the phylogenetic tree showed that Br WRKY75 has high homology with WRKY75 from Brassica oleracea and Arabidopsis thaliana, and belongs to the II c sub-group. Sub-cellular localization and transcriptional activity analysis revealed that Br WRKY75 is a nuclear protein with transcriptional repression activity, and was up-regulated during leaf senescence. Electrophoretic mobility shift assay confirmed that Br WRKY75 directly bound to the W-box(TTGAC) cis-element. | 4 | Kinetics and mechanism of hexavalent chromium removal by basic oxygen furnace slag显示文摘Basic oxygen furnace slag(BOFS) has the potential to remove hexavalent chromium(Cr(VI))from wastewater by a redox process due to the presence of minerals containing Fe2+. The effects of the solution p H, initial Cr(VI) concentration, BOFS dosage, BOFS particle size, and temperature on the removal of Cr(VI) was investigated in detail through batch tests. The chemical and mineral compositions of fresh and reacted BOFS were characterized using scanning electron microscope(SEM) equipped with an energy dispersive spectrometer(EDS)system and X-ray diffractometer(XRD). The results show that Cr(VI) in wastewater can be efficiently removed by Fe2+released from BOFS under appropriate acidic conditions. The removal of Cr(VI) by BOFS significantly depended on the parameters mentioned above. The reaction of Cr(VI) with BOFS followed the pseudo-second-order kinetic model. Fe2+responsible for Cr(VI) removal was primarily derived from the dissolution of Fe O and Fe3O4 in BOFS. When H2SO4 was used to adjust the solution acidity, gypsum(Ca SO4·2H2O)could be formed and become an armoring precipitate layer on the BOFS surface, hindering the release of Fe2+and the removal of Cr(VI). | 6 | A Banana PHD-Type Transcription Factor MaPHD1 Represses a Cell Wall-Degradation Gene MaXTH6 during Fruit Ripening显示文摘Plant homeobox domain(PHD)-type transcription factors(TFs) are involved in a variety of biological processes. However, its involvement in commercially important fruit ripening process remains largely unclear. In the present work, the characterization of a PHD-type TF termed MaPHD1 from banana fruit is reported. Multiple alignments of the deduced amino acid sequence revealed that Ma PHD1 showed a high homology with Arabidopsis thaliana Alfin1-like proteins belonging to plant-specific sub-family of PHD finger proteins. MaPHD1 was found localized in the nucleus and exhibited trans-repression ability. It was down-regulated by ethylene and ripening. Electrophoretic Mobility Shift Assay(EMSA) and transient expression analysis demonstrated that Ma PHD1 directly bound to the G-rich motifs in the promoter of Ma XTH6, which is associated with cell wall degradation, and subsequently repressed its expression. These findings suggest that MaPHD1 may be negatively associated with banana fruit ripening, at least in part, by the direct suppression of Ma XTH6. | 10 | Methionine oxidation and reduction of the ethylene signaling component MaEIL9 are involved in banana fruit ripening显示文摘The ethylene insensitive 3/ethylene insensitive3-like(EIN3/EIL)plays an indispensable role in fruit ripening.However,the regulatory mechanism that links post-translational modification of EIN3/EIL to fruit ripening is largely unknown.Here,we studied the expression of 13 MaE IL genes during banana fruit ripening,among which MaE IL9 displayed higher enhancement particularly in the ripening stage.Consistent with its transcript pattern,abundance of MaE IL9 protein gradually increased during the ripening process,with maximal enhancement in the ripening.DNA affinity purification(DAP)-seq analysis revealed that MaE IL9 directly targets a subset of genes related to fruit ripening,such as the starch hydrolytic genes MaA MY3D and MaB AM1.Stably overexpressing MaE IL9 in tomato fruit hastened fruit ripening,whereas transiently silencing this gene in banana fruit retarded the ripening process,supporting a positive role of MaEIL9 in fruit ripening.Moreover,oxidation of methionines(Met-129,Met-130,and Met-282)in MaEIL9 resulted in the loss of its DNA-binding capacity and transcriptional activation activity.Importantly,we identified MaEIL9 as a potential substrate protein of methionine sulfoxide reductase A MaMsrA4,and oxidation of Met-129,Met-130,and Met-282in MaEIL9 could be restored by MaMsrA4.Collectively,our findings reveal a novel regulatory network controlling banana fruit ripening,which involves MaMsrA4-mediated redox regulation of the ethylene signaling component MaEIL9. | Lisha Zhu Lin Chen Chaojie Wu Wei Shan Danling Cai Zengxiang Lin Wei Wei Jianye Chen Wangjin Lu Jianfei Kuang | 2023 | Journal of Integrative Plant Biology2023,65,1: | 1 |
