2Non-linear buffeting response analysis of long-span suspension bridges with central buckle显示文摘The rigid central buckle employed in the Runyang Suspension Bridge (RSB) was the first time it was used in a suspension bridge in China. By using a spectral representation method and FFT technique combined with measured data,a 3D fluctuating wind field considering the tower wind effect is simulated. A novel FE model for buffeting analysis is then presented,in which a specific user-defined Matrix27 element in ANSYS is employed to simulate the aeroelastic forces and its stiffness or damping matrices are parameterized by wind velocity and vibration frequency. A nonlinear time history analysis is carried out to study the influence of the rigid central buckle on the wind-induced buffeting response of a long-span suspension bridge. 3FROM YELLOW RIVER MODELSTO MODELING OF RIVERS显示文摘The Yellow River in China is a heavily sediment-laden river that challenges the best minds to understand its hydraulic behavior. Scientific scale modeling of the river was first carried out in Germany, separately by Engels and Franzuis, in the early 1930s. It was the major river modeling at that time, and the disagreement between their results had profound effect on the regulations of the river and on later physical river hydraulic modeling. The background leading to the Yellow River models and the conditions of the experimental results are reviewed in this paper. 4Study of Dynamic Robustness of Servo Control System on a Water Press显示文摘The reliability and robustness of the electro-hydraulic servo control system for heavy-duty forging machine play an important role in forging processes. A mathematic model of 50 MN water press for free forging was created in this research. The dynamic robust compensator integrating with PID control method is designed and applied to the mathematical model simulation. 7LABORATORY EXPERIMENTS ON NAVIGATION-INDUCED BED SHEAR STRESSESAND SEDIMENT RESUSPENSION显示文摘Motivated by the need to assess the environmental impact of navigation in the upper Mississippi River basin. a method was developed for computing sediment.entrainment in unsteady flows similar to the flows induced by navigation traffic. The method accounts for statistical differences between bed shear stress distributions of steady and unsteady flows. Unsteady pulse flow tests performed in a laboratory flume indicate that the stochastic method works well for predicting entrainment, but not significantly better than a similar deterministic method. Temporal and spatial distributions of bed shear stress were also measured beneath a 1:25 scale model of a 3 barge wide by 5 barge long barge tow for a variety of flow and operating conditions. For one set of flow and operating conditions (PDF test) a large number of realizations were gathered so that statistical properties of the bed shear stress below the propeller axis could be observed. As in the laboratory tests, differences between stochastic and deterministic entrainment predictions were small for the PDF barge tow test. Consequently, deterministic calculations of total sediment entrainment are given for the remaining barge tow tests. Finally. it was found that although the stochastic model presented herein does not offer a large improvement over existing deterministic models, fluctuations in bed shear stress do play an important role in the suspension of sediment, and the timing of sediment entrainment in unsteady flows is more closely related to shear stress fluctuations than it is to the ensemble averaged shear stress.M.H GARCIA D.M. 19A genome-wide survey of alternative translational initiation events in Homo sapiens显示文摘Alternative translational initiation is an important mechanism to increase the diversity of gene products. Although some of alternative translational initiation events have been reported, such information remains anecdotal and does not allow for any generalizations. The number of the known alternative translational initiation genes is so few that we know little about its mechanism. There is a great demand to discover more alternative translational initiation genes. However, it is arduously time-consuming to discover novel alternative translational initiation genes by the experimental method. Therefore we systematically analyzed protein sequences available in public database and predicted 1237 protein clusters as potential alternative translational initiation events. We concluded that about 8%—10% of human genes have alternative translational initiation sites.
