| 1 | Modified panel data regression model and its applications to the airline industry: Modeling the load factor of Europe North and Europe Mid Atlantic flights显示文摘This article conducts a stochastic analysis on the passenger load factor of the airline industry.Used to measure competence and performance of the airline,load factor is the percentage of seats filled by revenue passengers.It is considered a complex metric in the airline industry.Thus,it is affected by several dynamic factors.This paper applies advanced stochastic models to obtain the best fitted trend of load factor for Europe's North Atlantic(NA)and Mid Atlantic(MA)flights in the Association of European Airlines.The stochastic model's fit helps to forecast the load factor of flights within these geographical regions and evaluate the airline's demand and capacity management.The paper applies spectral density estimation and dynamic time effects panel data regression models on the monthly load factor flights of NA and MA from 1991 to 2013.The results show that the load factor has both periodic and serial correlations.Consequently,the author acknowledges that the use of an ordinal panel data model is inappropriate for a realistic econometric model of load factor.Therefore,to control the periodic correlation structure,the author modified the existing model was modified by introducing dynamic time effects.Moreover,to eradicate serial correlation,the author applied the Prais-Winsten methodology was applied to fit the model.In this econometric analysis,the study finds that AEA airlines have greater demand and capacity management for both NA and MA flights.In conclusion,this study prosperous in finding an effective and efficient dynamic time effects panel data regression model fit,which empowers engineers to forecast the load factor off AEA airlines. | Yohannes Yebabe Tesfay | 2016 | Journal of Traffic and Transportation Engineering(English Edition)2016,3,4: | 4 |
| 2 | Variation in Plant Morphology and Sinigrin Content in Ethiopian Mustard(Brassica carinata L.)显示文摘Ethiopian mustard(Brassica carinata) is mainly grown as a leafy vegetable and oilseed crop. Sinigrin is predominant glucosinolate in the leaves of Ethiopian mustard. It is hydrolyzed by enzyme myrosinase to produce bioactive product specifically allyl-isothiocyanates. Due to sinigrin content, Ethiopian mustard has a mild flavor and it is a healthy addition to human diet. However, sinigrin concentration depends on genotype.Understanding variations of plant morphology and sinigrin content may be the first step for crop improvement. According to the analyses of various plant characteristics among ninety nine Ethiopian mustard accessions, we found significant differences in plant height, chlorophyll content, and petiole length. In addition, sinigrin content was determined using ultra-performance liquid chromatography tandem quadrupole mass spectrometers/tunable ultraviolet detector(UPLC-TQS/TUV). We found a significant difference in sinigrin content among leaves of 94 Ethiopian mustard accessions. Except for petiole length, the sinigrin content was negatively correlated with leaf area, leaf width, number of primary branches, and plant height. | 5 | Rehabilitation of indigenous browse plant species following exclosure established on communal grazing lands in South Tigray, Ethiopia, and implication for conservation显示文摘Background:Despite the wide use of indigenous browse plant species,there is almost no information on the rehabilitation of indigenous browse species following area exclosure(AE)established on communal grazing lands(CGL)in Southern Tigray.The objectives of this study were to assess the rehabilitation of browse plant species following AE establishment on CGL.A total of 61 and 59 plots of 10×10m2 size were laid down at 50-m intervals along parallel line transects at AE and GCL,respectively.Data collected on vegetation attributes were subjected to analysis of t test(unequal variances)using R-software.Results:The Shannon diversity index of the browse plant species was 1.25 and 0.81 in AE and CGL,respectively(P<0.001).The overall population structure of browse plant species in the AE shows a reverse J-shaped population curve and“good”regeneration status,which reveals that the future communities may be sustained.Leaf biomass and basal area of browse plant species were significantly higher in the AE than in CGL(P<0.001).After exclusion of grazing,AE was found to have positive effects on diversity and aboveground biomass of browse plant species.Conclusions:The study gives an understanding of the diversity,the pattern of population and regeneration of the browse plant species,which may help in the management and conservation of the species.Our results indicate that grazing exclusion is an effective management strategy to restore browse plant species.We concluded that the establishment of AE had a positive effect on the rehabilitation of browse plant species diversity and improved population structure and regeneration potentials of degraded grazing lands.Long-term monitoring and evaluation systems will be required to gain an informed understanding of the roles played by area exclosures in the rehabilitation and conservation of browse palnt species diversity. | Tesfay Atsbha Solomon Wayu Nguse Gebretsadkan Tesfay Gebremariam Tsgehiwet Giday | 2019 | Ecological Processes2019,8,1: | 1 |

| 11 | Evaluation of Global Gridded Precipitation and Temperature Datasets against Gauged Observations over the Upper Tekeze River Basin,Ethiopia显示文摘The availability of satellite and reanalysis climate datasets and their applicability have been greatly promoted in hydro-climatic studies.However,such climatic products are still subject to considerable uncertainties and an evaluation of the products is necessary for applications in specific regions.This study aims to evaluate the reliability of nine gridded precipitation and temperature datasets against ground-based observations in the upper Tekeze River basin(UTB)of Ethiopia from 1982 to 2016.Precipitation,maximum temperature(Tmax),minimum temperature(Tmin),and mean temperature(Tmean)were evaluated at daily and monthly timescales.The results show that the best estimates of precipitation are from the Eart H2 Observe,WFDEI,and ERA-Interim reanalysis data Merged and Bias-corrected for the Inter-Sectoral Impact Model Intercomparison Project(EWEMBI),and the Climate Hazards Group Infra Red Precipitation with Station data(CHIRPS)datasets.The percentage biases and correlation coefficients(CCs)are within±15%and>0.5,respectively,for both EWEMBI and CHIRPS at the two timescales.All products underestimate the drought conditions indicated by the standardized precipitation index(SPI),while the EWEMBI and CHIRPS datasets show higher agreement with the observations than other datasets.The Tmean estimates produced by the ECMWF ReAnalysis version 5(ERA5)and the Climate Hazards Group Infra Red Temperature with Station data(CHIRTS)are the closest to the observations,with CCs of 0.65 and 0.55,respectively,at the daily timescale.The CHIRTS and EWEMBI datasets show better representations of Tmax(T_(min)),with CCs of 0.69(0.72)and 0.62(0.68),respectively,at the monthly timescale.The temperature extremes are better captured by the ERA5(T_(mean)),CHIRTS(T_(max)),and EWEMBI(T_(min))datasets.The findings of this study provide useful information to select the most appropriate dataset for hydrometeorological studies in the UTB and could help to improve the regional representation of global datasets. | Kidane Welde REDA Xingcai LIU Qiuhong TANG Tesfay Gebretsadkan GEBREMICAEL | 2021 | Journal of Meteorological Research2021,35,4: | 1 |

| 18 | The prevalence and associated factors for delayed presentation for HIV care among tuberculosis/HIV co-infected patients in Southwest Ethiopia: a retrospective observational cohort显示文摘Background:A delay presentation for human immunodeficiency virus(HIV)patient’s care(that is late engagement to HIV care due to delayed HIV testing or delayed linkage for HIV care after the diagnosis of HIV positive)is a critical step in the series of HIV patient care continuum.In Ethiopia,delayed presentation(DP)for HIV care among vulnerable groups such as tuberculosis(Tb)/HIV co-infected patients has not been assessed.We aimed to assess the prevalence of and factors associated with DP(CD4<200 cells/μl at first visit)among Tb/HIV co-infected patients in southwest Ethiopia.Methods:A retrospective observational cohort study collated Tb/HIV data from Jimma University Teaching Hospital for the period of September 2010 and August 2012.The data analysis used logistic regression model at P value of≤0.05 in the final model.Results:The prevalence of DP among Tb/HIV co-infected patients was 59.9%.Tb/HIV co-infected patients who had a house with at least two rooms were less likely(AOR,0.5;95%CI:0.3–1.0)to present late than those having only single room.Tobacco non-users of Tb/HIV co-infected participants were also 50%less likely(AOR,0.5;95%CI:0.3–0.8)to present late for HIV care compared to tobacco users.The relative odds of DP among Tb/HIV co-infected patients with ambulatory(AOR,1.8;95%CI,1.0–3.1)and bedridden(AOR,8.3;95%CI,2.8–25.1)functional status was higher than with working status.Conclusions:Three out of five Tb/HIV co-infected patients presented late for HIV care.Higher proportions of DP were observed in bedridden patients,tobacco smokers,and those who had a single room residence.These findings have intervention implications and call for effective management strategies for Tb/HIV co-infection including early HIV diagnosis and early linkage to HIV care services. | Hailay Gesesew Birtukan Tsehaineh Desalegn Massa Amanuel Tesfay Hafte Kahsay Lillian Mwanri | 2016 | Infectious Diseases of Poverty2016,5,1: | 1 |
