1Analysis of alternative parameters of dynamic resistance measurement in high voltage circuit breakers显示文摘Throughout its lifetime,high-voltage circuit breaker(HVCB)contacts suffer from inevitable degradation processes, especially during the formation of electric arcs.Highly degraded contacts can reduce the current interruption capacity and increase the chances of operational faults, which might lead to considerable financial losses. Therefore, the use of efficient evaluating techniques is a key factor to achieve systems reliability. The dynamic resistance measurement(DRM)is a technique that can be used to evaluate the degradation level of HVCB'contacts. It stands out from the usual technique, static resistance measurement,by allowing the assessment of both the main contacts and the arcing contacts(ACs).Usually, the mean resistance or the area under the DRM curve is used to estimate the AC degradation. However,DRM is a non-standardised technique and there are no specified parameters to evaluate the real wear conditions. Therefore,an analysis of alternative parameters extractible from the DRM technique is presented in this study, such as amplitude and variance of the DRM curve. The results attest the possible use of more than one parameter for the continuous evaluation of HVCB ACs,characterising the DRM as a more complete and precise diagnosis tool.Herbet Filipe dos Santos Sousa Adriano Costa de Oliveira George Victor Rocha Xavier Henrique Nunes de Santana Edson Guedes da Costa Tarso Vilela Ferreira 2019High Voltage2019,4,3:1

7New approach for obtaining the C-factor of RUSLE considering the seasonal effect of rainfalls on vegetation cover显示文摘We present a new approach for calculating the C-factor of RUSLE considering the effect of low-reflectance vegetation cover areas on the reduction of the effects on erosion caused by rainfall seasonality. For this,we propose the coefficients Cr2(rescaled 2)and C-PC(Precipitation Correction),which represent the Cfactor, and an adaptation in NDVI calculation, according to the seasonality of precipitation(NDVI-PC).The Cr2 factor is used when there is no seasonal effect of rainfall on vegetation, while the C-PC factor is calculated for localities under the influence of seasonality, from NDVI-PC.The proposed approaches were tested using different satellites images in the Palmares-Ribeir~ao do Saco watershed,Rio de Janeiro,Brazil. The values of Cr2 and C-PC factors were compared to the Cr factor(rescaled)and to mean values from the literature for different land covers. Our results indicated that the Cr2 factor represents an improvement in accuracy in relation to Cr by considering specific values of the studied area to normalize the data without generalizations.Furthermore, the C-PC factor is able to simulate the effect of seasonality, providing more realistics values of soil loss by the RUSLE as a function of the proportion of area affected by the rainfall seasonality obtained from NDVI-PC.We conclude that both Cr2 and C-PC factors generate values similar of the C-factor observed in the literature, and therefore are able to provide better soil loss estimation than that using the Cr factor.Pietro Menezes Sanchez Macedo Paulo Tarso Sanches Oliveira Mauro Antonio Homem Antunes Valdemir Lucio Durigon Elaine Cristina Cardoso Fidalgo Daniel Fonseca de Carvalho 2021International Soil and Water Conservation Research2021,9,2:1

17Streamflow prediction in ungauged catchments by using the Grunsky method显示文摘Establish a reliable rainfall-runoff relation capable of predicting runoff in ungauged basins is a matter of interest across the world for a long time and has been taking importance during the past decades.Regionalization approaches, hydrological models and machine learning techniques have been used to estimate runoff. However, returning some simplicity to the predictions might be necessary for practical uses.In this paper,we re-introduce C.E.Grunsky approach, developed in the early 1900s to predict runoff from values of precipitation on a two-equations system. Here,we analyze the Grunsky generalized method applied for 716 Brazilian catchments,on an interannual and monthly scales.First,we established the best method to find the rainfall-runoff relation coefficient for each catchment. Then,we evaluate the performance of the method on a local scale,i.e.,catchment by catchment.Lastly,we analyze the method of regionalization,by grouping the catchments into six hydrologically similar classes. For local scale, the Kling-Gupta Efficiency(KGE)values range from 0.87 to 0.93 on the interannual scale and is greater than 0.50 on the monthly scale. For the regionalized approach,KGE varies from 0.60 to 0.84 on an interannual scale. We also found suitable KGE values on a monthly scale, with more than 22%of catchments with KGE greater than 0.50,being the best performances in the Non-seasonal and Extremely-wet groups, and the worst performance in the Dry group. Our findings indicate that Grunsky approach is suitable to predict streamflow for Brazilian catchments on interannual and monthly scales. This simple and easy-to-use equation presents a reliable alternative to more complex methods to compute runoff by only using rainfall data.Bruno K.Marchezepe AndréAlmagro AndréS.Ballarin Paulo Tarso S.Oliveira 2023International Soil and Water Conservation Research2023,11,4:0
18Atlas of precipitation extremes for South America and Africa based on depth-duration-frequency relationships in a stochastic weather generator dataset显示文摘Information about extreme rainfall is lacking in regions of South America and Africa. This study attempts to fill this scientific gap by use of a gridded parameterization for the stochastic weather generator,CLIGEN,to map depth-duration-frequency(DDF)relationships.Analysis of 500-year point-scale precipitation time series generated at each grid point allowed maps of return period precipitation to be produced for a se-lection of sixteen durations ranging from 10-min to 1-year and for nine return periods from 2 to 500 years. The generalized extreme value(GEV)probability distribution was fitted for all durations, and given GEV quantiles,an interpolation method was applied to produce maps at 0.1° resolution that better resolve small-scale spatial climate gradients. In addition to uncertainties related to GEV fitting, this study quantifies prediction intervals based on ground validation. This validation was important for identifying biases in CLIGEN,although uncertainties were not always satisfactorily defined due to sampling design and other factors. For daily/multi-day durations,100 stations with daily observations and ≥50-year records were selected for validation against the 0.1° CLIGEN map series, resulting in a median and average absolute error of 13%and 16%,respectively.For sub-daily durations, prediction errors were larger overall. An analogy using available U.S.data established the degree of bias in CUGEN for sub-daily durations, and three records in Brazil with high temporal resolutions were used to confirm that applied bias adjustments resulted in error ranges similar to the daily/multi-day cases. This atlas is freely available for study of extreme precipitation.Andrew Fullhart David C.Goodrich Menberu B.Meles Paulo Tarso S.Oliveira Cristiano das Neves Almeida JoséC.de Araújo Shea Burns 2023International Soil and Water Conservation Research2023,11,4:0
19Gridded 20-year climate parameterization of Africa and South America for a stochastic weather generator (CLIGEN)显示文摘CLIGEN is a stochastic weather generator that creates statistically representative timeseries of daily and sub-daily point-scale weather variables from observed monthly statistics and other parameters. CLIGEN precipitation timeseries are used as climate input for various risk-assessment modelling applications as an alternative to observe long-term, high temporal resolution records. Here, we queried gridded global climate datasets (TerraClimate, ERA5, GPM-IMERG, and GLDAS) to estimate various 20-year climate statistics and obtain complete CLIGEN input parameter sets with coverage of the African and South American continents at 0.25 arc degree resolution. The estimation of CLIGEN precipitation parameters was informed by a ground-based dataset of >10,000 locations worldwide. The ground observations provided target values to fit regression models that downscale CLIGEN precipitation input parameters. Aside from precipitation parameters, CLIGEN’s parameters for temperature, solar radiation, etc. were in most cases directly calculated according to the original global datasets. Cross-validation for estimated precipitation parameters quantified errors that resulted from applying the estimation approach in a predictive fashion. Based on all training data, the RMSE was 2.23 mm for the estimated monthly average single-event accumulation and 4.70 mm/hr for monthly maximum 30-min intensity. This dataset facilitates exploration of hydrological and soil erosional hypotheses across Africa and South America.Andrew Fullhart Guillermo E.Ponce-Campos Menberu B.Meles Ryan P.McGehee Gerardo Armendariz Paulo Tarso S.Oliveira Cristiano Das Neves Almeida José C.de Araújo Werner Nel David C.Goodrich 2023Big Earth Data2023,7,2:0
20Contribution of inrush current to mechanical failure of power transformers windings显示文摘This work presents a study regarding the contribution of inrush current to the occurrence of mechanical fatigue in windings of a power transformer and, consequently, the impact of that phenomenon on the equipment's lifetime. In order to perform the study, electromagnetic transient simulations were used to determine the inrush current in a three-phase transformer model.Then,three-dimensional simulations, based on the finite element method, were performed to determine the electromechanical stresses in the equipment windings, under the effect of the inrush current.Next, the methods of critical plans and Palmgren–Miner were applied to perform the fatigue study. From the results, the impact of inrush current on the integrity of the transformer's windings was determined,as well as,to estimate the reduction of lifespan of the equipment due to inrush occurrence. The number of inrushes needed for the total reduction of lifespan of the equipment due to mechanical fatigue was also determined. The results can be used in the transformers design stage, with the purpose of assisting the evaluation of mechanical withstand of equipment, which can minimise the possibility of failure and increase its lifespan.Rafael M.R.Barros Edson Gda Costa Jalberth F.Araujo Filipe L.Mde Andrade Tarso V.Ferreira 2019High Voltage2019,4,4:0
