Soil particle size distribution and its relationship with soil water and salt under mulched drip irrigation in Xinjiang of China显示文摘Soil particle size distribution(PSD),one of the most important soil physical attributes,is of great importance to soil water movement, soil erosion and soil solute migration. In this study, the soil PSD of 563 soil samples from the mulched drip irrigated cotton fields in Xinjiang of China were measured by laser diffraction particle size analyzer. The soil PSD characteristics and its relations with soil water and salt were studied by using the combined methods of textural triangle, fractal and multifractal analysis. The results showed very low clay content(about 1.52%) while really high sand content of the studied soil, and a complex shape of bimodal or unimodal of soil PSD.The results also showed that the two indices,i.e.,standard deviation and the peak value of soil particle relative volumes, were good indicators of soil PSD and thus had good relations with fractal and multifractal characteristics. The correlative analysis further indicated that the mulched drip irrigation had a significant impact on the distribution of the soil salt, while this impact withered for the deeper soil layer. The soil texture feature was found to dominate soil water and salt distribution, especially the surface soil salt content and the deep soil water content. | HU HongChang TIAN FuQiang HU HePing | 2011 | Science China(Technological Sciences)2011,54,6: | 33

Thermodynamic watershed hydrological model: Constitutive relationship显示文摘The representative elementary watershed (REW) approach proposed by Reggiani et al. was the first attempt to develop scale adaptable equations applicable directly at the macro scale. Tian et al. extended the initial definition of REW for simulating the energy related processes, and re-organized the deriving procedure of balance equations so that additional sub-regions and substances could be easily incorpo-rated. The resultant ordinary differential equation set can simulate various hydro-logical processes in a physically reasonable way. However, constitutive and geo-metric relationships have not been developed for Tian et al.'s equation set, which are necessary for the thermodynamic watershed hydrological model to apply in hydrological modeling practice. In this work, the constitutive equations for mass exchange terms and momentum exchange terms were developed as well as geo-metric relationships. The closed ordinary differential equation set with nine equa-tions was finally obtained. | TIAN FuQiang HU HePing LEI ZhiDong | 2008 | Science China(Technological Sciences)2008,51,9: | 6
A two-dimensional numerical model coupled with multiple hillslope hydrodynamic processes and its application to subsurface flow simulation显示文摘A numerical hillslope hydrodynamic model is of great importance in facilitating the understanding of rainfall-runoff mechanism. However, most of the currently existing models do not consider the effect of coupled hydrodynamic processes as runoff, subsurface flow or groundwater flow.In this study, the Tsinghua Hillslope Runoff Model based on multiple hydrodynamic process,THRM model,is developed, which couples with Saint Venant equation for surface runoff and Richards equation for variably saturated soil water movement(including subsurface flow and groundwater flow).A finite difference scheme with improved boundary conditions is adopted in this research. It is revealed from the simulation that the THRM model has a high computational efficiency and stability in simulating subsurface flow of the experimental hillslope, which is valuable in assessing the hillslope runoff generation mechanism.A model based sensitivity analysis is also carried out.The impact of boundary condition, grid size and initial soil moisture on simulation result and model stability are revealed, which provides insightful references to understand the mechanism of subsurface flow. | LAN Min HU HongChang TIAN FuQiang HU HePing | 2013 | Science China(Technological Sciences)2013,56,10: | 6
Regional Metabolic Patterns of Abnormal Postoperative Behavioral Performance in Aged Mice Assessed by XH-NMR Dynamic Mapping Method显示文摘Abnormal postoperative neurobehavioral performance(APNP)is a common phenomenon in the early postoperative period. The disturbed homeostatic status of metabolites in the brain after anesthesia and surgery might make a significant contribution to APNP.The dynamic changes of metabolites in different brain regions after anesthesia and surgery,as well as their potential association with APNP are still not well understood. Here,we used a battery of behavioral tests to assess the effects of laparotomy under isoflurane anesthesia in aged mice, and investigated the metabolites in 12 different sub-regions of the brain at different time points using proton nuclear magnetic resonance('H-NMR)spectroscopy.The abnormal neurobehavioral performance occurred at 6 h and/or 9 h,and recovered at 24 h after anesthesia/surgery.Compared with the control group, the altered metabolite of the model group at 6 h was aspartate(Asp),and the difference was mainly displayed in the cortex;while significant changes at 9 h occurred predominantly in the cortex and hippocampus, and the corresponding metabolites were Asp and glutamate(Glu). All changes returned to baseline at 24 h.The altered metabolic changes could have occurred as a result of the acute APNP,and the metabolites Asp and Glu in the cortex and hippocampus could provide preliminary evidence for understanding the APNP process. | Taotao Liu Zhengqian Li Jindan He Ning Yang Dengyang Han Yue Li Xuebi Tian Huili Liu Anne Manyande Hongbing Xiang Fuqiang Xu Jie Wang Xiangyang Guo | 2020 | Neuroscience Bulletin2020,36,1: | 2
Artificial neural network simulation for prediction of suspended sediment concentration in the River Ramganga,Ganges Basin,India显示文摘The relation between the water discharge (Q) and suspended sediment concentration (SSC) of the River Ramganga at Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh, in the Himalayas, has been modeled using Artificial Neural Networks (ANNs). The current study validates the practical capability and usefulness of this tool for simulating complex nonlinear, real world, river system processes in the Himalayan scenario. The modeling approach is based on the time series data collected from January to December (2008-2010) for Q and SSC. Three ANNs (T1-T3) with different network configurations have been developed and trained using the Levenberg Marquardt Back Propagation Algorithm in the Matlab routines. Networks were optimized using the enumeration technique, and, finally, the best network is used to predict the SSC values for the year 2011. The values thus obtained through the ANN model are compared with the observed values of SSC. The coefficient of determination (R2), for the optimal network was found to be 0.99. The study not only provides insight into ANN modeling in the Himalayan river scenario, but it also focuses on the importance of understanding a river basin and the factors that affect the SSC, before attempting to model it. Despite the temporal variations in the study area, it is possible to model and successfully predict the SSC values with very simplistic ANN models. | Mohd Yawar Ali Khan Fuqiang Tian Faisal Hasan Govind Joseph Chakrapani | 2019 | International Journal of Sediment Research2019,34,2: | 2
Analysis of the effect of regional lateral inflow on the flood peak of the Three Gorges Reservoir显示文摘The Three Gorges Region(TGR),located at the lower reach of the Upper Yangtze River Basin(UYRB) in China, suffers from heavy rainstorm frequently. The runoff generated from TGR composes an important part of the total flood at the famous Three Gorges Reservoir(TGRe).During the severe flood period in 1954,for example, the water from TGR accounted for up to 13.2% of the 30-days maximum flood volume of the UYRB.Considering the short and steep tributaries with rapid concentration, the regional lateral inflow(RLI) may induce more serious effect on the flood peak of the TGRe than the volume. However, hydrological data of the sparse gauge stations is too insufficient to evaluate the effect of RLI.This paper studied the impact by analyzing 880 flood events during 1956-2000.By comparing the observed hydrograph and simulated hydrograph with HEC-RAS software regarding no RLI,the effect of RLI on flood peak value and timing properties was identified and quantified. The variability of this effect among floods of different magnitudes was also analyzed. To evaluate the analysis uncertainty associated with the parameter of roughness coefficient, four sets of roughness coefficients from different research groups were employed in this study. The results showed that RLI contributes discharge of 3524 m3/s to flood peaks of the TGRe on average, with the contribution ratio of 15.9%.RLI contributes 12000 m3/s to the flood peaks larger than 50000 m3/s on average, with 25000 m3/s as its upper bound, while the contribution ratio can reach up to 50%,with an average of 20%.The variability of this effect is great among different events.Statistical analysis showed that to larger flood peak of the TGRe,RLI contributes more discharge with higher variability, and the contribution ratio and its variability are slightly larger, and events with higher contribution ratio occur more frequently.RLI can reshape the hydrograph, leading to earlier appearance of flood peak. This effect and its variability increase with the contribution ratio. This study has revealed that RLI plays an important role in large flood peak of the TGRe,which calls for more reliable flood forecasting methods to prolong the forecast lead time and improve the accuracy for the safety of the Three Gorges Dam and the protection of its lower reaches during severe flood disaster period. | WANG BaiWei TIAN FuQiang HU HePing | 2011 | Science China(Technological Sciences)2011,54,4: | 2
A two-dimensional Richards equation solver based on CVODE for variably saturated soil water movement显示文摘A numerical model of two-dimensional soil water movement under surface drip irrigation condition was developed. The physical process of soil water movement is described by 2D Richards equation, and the upper boundary condition is depicted by the improved moving ponded area boundary. The partial differential equation(PDE) is transformed into ordinary differential equations(ODEs) through spatial semi-discretization and numerically solved by an ordinary differential equation solver(CVODE) . The numerical and field experiments indicate the good performance of the model in terms of accuracy and efficiency. The model provides a useful tool for long-term simulation of soil water movement under surface drip irrigation. Also, the model can serve as a general 2D Richards equation solver for variably saturated soil water movement, which is named as TIVS model(Tsinghua Integrated Variably Saturated soil water movement model). | TIAN FuQiang GAO Long HU HePing | 2011 | Science China(Technological Sciences)2011,54,12: | 2

Spatial averaging infiltration model for layered soil显示文摘To quantify the influences of soil heterogeneity on infiltration, a spatial averaging infiltration model for layered soil (SAI model) is developed by coupling the spatial averaging approach proposed by Chen et al. and the Generalized Green-Ampt model proposed by Jia et al. In the SAI model, the spatial hetero- geneity along the horizontal direction is described by a probability distribution function, while that along the vertical direction is represented by the layered soils. The SAI model is tested on a typical soil using Monte Carlo simulations as the base model. The results show that the SAI model can directly incorporate the influence of spatial heterogeneity on infiltration on the macro scale. It is also found that the homogeneous assumption of soil hydraulic conductivity along the horizontal direction will overes- timate the infiltration rate, while that along the vertical direction will underestimate the infiltration rate significantly during rainstorm periods. The SAI model is adopted in the spatial averaging hydrological model developed by the authors, and the results prove that it can be applied in the macro-scale hy- drological and land surface process modeling in a promising way. | HePing Hu ZhiYong Yang FuQiang Tian | 2009 | Science China(Technological Sciences)2009,52,4: | 1
