1Positive evidence for vitamin A role in prevention of type 1 diabetes显示文摘Type 1 diabetes mellitus(T1DM) as one of the most well-known autoimmune disease, results from the destruction of β-cells in pancreas by autoimmune process. T1 DM is fatal without insulin treatment. The expansion of alternative treatment to insulin is a dream to be fulfilled. Currently autoimmunity is considered as main factor in development of T1 DM. So manipulation of the immune system can be considered as alternative treatment to insulin. For the past decades, vitamin A has been implicated as an essential dietary micronutrient in regulator of immune function. Despite major advantage in the knowledge of vitamin A biology, patients who present T1 DM are at risk for deficiency in vitamin A and carotenoids. 6All optical NAND gate based on nonlinear photonic crystal ring resonator显示文摘In this paper we proposed a new design for all optical NAND gate.By combining nonlinear Kerr effect with photonic crystal ring resonators,we designed an all optical NAND gate.A typical NAND gate is a logic device with one bias and two logic input and one output ports.It has four different combinations for its logic input ports.The output port of the NAND gate is OFF,when both logic ports are ON,otherwise the output port will be ON.The switching power threshold obtained for this structure equals to 1.5 kW/lm2.For designing the proposed optical logic gate we employed one resonant ring whose resonant wavelength is at 1554 nm.The functionality of the proposed NAND gate depends on the operation of this resonant ring.When the power intensity of optical waves is less than the switching threshold the ring will couple optical waves into drop waveguide otherwise the optical waves will propagate on the bus waveguide.Somaye Serajmohammadi Hassan Absalan 2016Information Processing in Agriculture2016,3,2:1

10Micromorphology and Quality Attributes of the Loess Derived Soils Affected by Land Use Change:A Case Study in Ghapan Watershed,Northern Iran显示文摘In order to study the effects of different land vegetative covers on soil quality attributes, a loess hill slope was selected in eastern Golestan Province, Ghapan watershed, Iran. Four profiles in four land uses, including Quercus natural forest; Pinus artificial forest; Cupressus artificial forest and a cultivated land, were studied. Results showed that MWD was significantly different in the studied land uses, and it varied between 1.6 mm in Quercus natural forest and 0.31 mm in cultivated land use. The lowest CEC, microbial respiration rate and organic carbon were 28.4 cmol·kg-1, 177 μgCO2·g-1·day-1 and 1.32 % found in cultivated land use, respectively. The organic matter content in the forest areas was considerably higher than that of cultivated land use. The studies on soil profile development revealed that the natural forest soils were highly developed. The soils of the Quercus natural forest were classified as Calcic Haploxeralfs with a well developed argillic horizon unlike the cultivated soils which showed the minimum development and classified as Typic Xerorthents. The soils of the artificial forests had both mollic epipedons and were classified as Typic Calcixerolls with moderate profile development. Micromorphological studies revealed that argillic horizons had speckled and partly crystallitic b-fabric in the natural forest indicating the high landscape stability. In contrast, the crystallitic b-fabric of other land uses shows the absence of enough leaching of carbonate and the subsequent migration of clay particles indicating the unstable conditions and high soil erosion. Intense erosion of the surface horizons of cultivated land use has resulted in the outcropping of the subsurface carbonate rich horizons preventing soil development.Farhad Khormali Somaye Shamsi 2009Journal of Mountain Science2009,6,2:1

12Hydroxycitric acid ameliorates inflammation and oxidative stress in mouse models of multiple sclerosis显示文摘Hydroxycitric acid(HCA) is derived primarily from the Garcinia plant and is widely used for its anti-inflammatory effects. Multiple sclerosis can cause an inflammatory demyelination and axonal damage. In this study, to validate the hypothesis that HCA exhibits therapeutic effects on multiple sclerosis, we established female C57BL/6 mouse models of multiple sclerosis, i.e., experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis,using Complete Freund's Adjuvant(CFA) emulsion containing myelin oligodendrocyte glycoprotein(35–55). Treatment with HCA at 2 g/kg/d for 3 weeks obviously improved the symptoms of nerve injury of experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis mice, decreased serum interleulin-6, tumor necrosis factor alpha, nitric oxide, and malondialdehyde levels, and increased superoxide dismutase and glutathione reductase activities. 19Effects of Increased Salinity on Growth, Development and Survival in Early Life Stages of the Green Toad Bufotes variabilis (Anura: Bufonidae)显示文摘This study examined the effects of increased salinity on growth,development and survival of the Green toad,Bufotes variabilis during embryonic,hatching and early larval periods.Eggs from a single cohort of B.variabilis were subjected to acute and chronic toxicity tests for water salinity ranging from 0.20 to 10 g of salt per liter.Results obtained from this study showed that salinity over 3.70 g/l increased embryonic mortality and reduced percentage of hatching and survival rate of larvae.As larvae tolerated salinity 0.20 to 3.70 g/l with highest survival,but salinity of 10 g/l caused mortality of all individuals within 12 h,7.70–8.70(g/l)within 4.5 days,5.70–6.70 g/l within 10 days and 4.70(g/l)were tolerated within 14 days.Salinity less than 0.70 g/l did not affect survival and hatching success of the embryos.After a 3-week experiment,size of larvae exposed to salinities over 0.70 g/l was lower compared to larvae reared at lower salinity levels.Meanwhile increases in salinity more than 3.70 g/l caused extension in the hatching period.Larvae reared at salinity of 3.70 to 4.70 g/l had morphological abnormalities,such as distortion of tail.Soheyla YAGHOBI Somaye VAISSI Zeynab Taheri KHAS Mozafar SHARIFI 2018Asian Herpetological Research2018,9,2:0
