1The influence of various frequency chorus waves on electron dynamics in radiation belts显示文摘Non-adiabatic behaviour induced by the chorus-electron interaction is an important contributor to the radiation belt dynamics,and largely relies on wave frequency distribution.During the geomagnetic storm on August 2,2016,upper-band,lower-band and extremely low frequency(ELF)chorus waves were simultaneously observed within one orbit period of the Van Allen Probe B.Numerical simulations are performed to investigate the electron evolution by the observed chorus with different frequencies.The results show that various frequency chorus waves have different effects on electron dynamics.For chorus in the range f≈0.3 fce–0.7 fce,energy diffusion is the dominant process in electron evolutions.For chorus in the range 0.1 fce≤f≤0.25 fce,the pitch angle diffusion tends to be comparable to energy diffusion for Ek>0.5 MeV.For ELF chorus below 0.1 fce,the pitch angle diffusion rate is much above the energy diffusion rate,leading to potential scattering losses.HE JiaBei JIN Yu Yue XIAO FuLiang HE ZhaoGuo YANG Chang XIE YanQiong HE Qian WANG ChengZhi SHANG XiongJun LIU Si ZHOU QingHua ZHANG Sai 2021Science China(Technological Sciences)2021,64,4:3
2Generation of simultaneous H^(+)and He^(+)band EMIC waves in the nightside radiation belt显示文摘Previous studies have shown that EMIC waves occur preferentially in the afternoon sector of the magnetosphere.Here we report obliquely propagating H^(+)and He^(+)band EMIC waves detected by Van Allen Probe B in the region of MLT=22.7–23.5 during the June 20,2013 substorm.Using the correlated energetic proton data,we present continuous calculations on EMIC wave growth rates along the inward orbit in the region L=5.5–4.2.The modeled growth rate shows remarkable agreement with the observed double band EMIC waves in both temporal and spatial evolutions.The current results demonstrate that H^(+)and He^(+)band EMIC waves can be simultaneously excited in the midnight sector under appropriate conditions.GUAN ChunYi SHANG XiongJun XIE YanQiong YANG Chang ZHANG Sai LIU Si XIAO FuLiang 2020Science China(Technological Sciences)2020,63,11:3

10Soil bacterial communities interact with silicon fraction transformation and promote rice yield after long-term straw return显示文摘Returning crop straw into the soil is an important practice to balance biogenic and bioavailable silicon(Si)pool in paddy,which is crucial for the healthy growth of rice.However,owing to little knowledge about soil microbial communities responsible for straw degradation,how straw return affects Si bioavailability,its uptake,and rice yield remains elusive.Herein,we investigate the change of soil Si fractions and microbial community in a 39-year-old paddy field amended by a long-term straw return.Results show that rice straw return significantly increased soil bioavailable Si and rice yield from 29.9%to 61.6%and from 14.5%to 23.6%,respectively,when compared to NPK fertilization alone.Straw return significantly altered soil microbial community abundance.Acidobacteria was positively and significantly related to amorphous Si,while Rokubacteria at phylum level,Deltaproteobacteria,and Holophagae at class level was negatively and significantly related to organic matter adsorbed and Fe/Mn-oxide-combined Si in soils.Redundancy analysis of their correlations further demonstrated that Si status significantly explained 12%of soil bacterial community variation.These findings suggest that soil bacteria community and diversity interact with Si mobility by altering its transformation,thus resulting in the balance of various nutrient sources to drive biological Si cycle in agroecosystem.Alin Song Zimin Li Yulin Liao Yongchao Liang Enzhao Wang Sai Wang Xu Li Jingjing Bi Zhiyuan Si Yanhong Lu Jun Nie Fenliang Fan 2021Soil Ecology Letters2021,3,4:0
11Correlated observations linking loss of energetic protons to EMIC waves显示文摘Electromagnetic ion cyclotron(EMIC)emission is an efficient mechanism for scattering loss of energetic protons.Here,we report an event that provides both in-situ observation of energetic proton differential fluxes in the inner magnetosphere and precipitation of protons at ionospheric altitudes.During the 7-8 September 2015 geomagnetic storm the Van Allen Probes observed strong EMIC waves around L=5 and a distinct decrement in fluxes of tens of keV protons around pitch angles 0°-45°.Meanwhile,precipitating protons at ionospheric altitudes were found to significantly enhanced(by several orders of magnitude),measured by NOAA 18 and 19 when they magnetically linked to the Van Allen Probe-A.By solving the Fokker-Planck diffusion equation,we show that EMIC waves can efficiently produce loss of energetic protons within about 2 h in the pitch angle range of~0°-45°,comparable to the satellite observations.YANG Chang WANG ZongQiang XIAO FuLiang HE ZhaoGuo XIE YanQiong ZHANG Sai HE YiHua LIU Si ZHOU QingHua 2022Science China(Technological Sciences)2022,65,1:0
12A machine-learning-based electron density (MLED) model in the inner magnetosphere显示文摘Plasma density is an important factor in determining wave-particle interactions in the magnetosphere.We develop a machine-learning-based electron density(MLED)model in the inner magnetosphere using electron density data from Van Allen Probes between September 25,2012 and August 30,2019.This MLED model is a physics-based nonlinear network that employs fundamental physical principles to describe variations of electron density.It predicts the plasmapause location under different geomagnetic conditions,and models separately the electron densities of the plasmasphere and of the trough.We train the model using gradient descent and backpropagation algorithms,which are widely used to deal effectively with nonlinear relationships among physical quantities in space plasma environments.The model gives explicit expressions with few parameters and describes the associations of electron density with geomagnetic activity,solar cycle,and seasonal effects.Under various geomagnetic conditions,the electron densities calculated by this model agree well with empirical observations and provide a good description of plasmapause movement.This MLED model,which can be easily incorporated into previously developed radiation belt models,promises to be very helpful in modeling and improving forecasting of radiation belt electron dynamics.QingHua Zhou YunXiang Chen FuLiang Xiao Sai Zhang Si Liu Chang Yang YiHua He ZhongLei Gao 2022Earth and Planetary Physics2022,6,4:0
13Direct evidence for efficient scattering of suprathermal electrons by whistler mode waves in the Martian magnetosphere显示文摘Whistler mode waves are critical emissions in magnetized plasmas that usually influence the electron dynamics in a planetary magnetosphere.In this paper,we present a unique event in the Martian magnetosphere in which enhanced whistler mode waves(~10^(−11) V^(2)/m^(2)/Hz)with frequency of 0.1 f_(ce)-0.5 f_(ce) occurred,based on MAVEN data,exactly corresponding to a significant decrease of suprathermal electron fluxes.The diffusion coefficients are calculated by using the observed electric field wave spectra.The pitch angle diffusion coefficient can approach 10^(−2) s^(−1),which is much larger,by~100 times,than the momentum diffusion coefficient,indicating that pitch angle scattering dominates the whistler-electron resonance process.The current results can successfully explain the dropout of the suprathermal electrons in this event.This study provides direct evidence for whistler-driven electron losses in the Martian magnetosphere.Tong Li Si Liu Chang Yang FuLiang Xiao HongMing Yang Sai Zhang ZhongLei Gao Qian He QingHua Zhou QiWu Yang YiHua He 2023Earth and Planetary Physics2023,7,6:0
