| 1 | Chinese herbal medicine for COVID-19: Current evidence with systematic review and meta-analysis显示文摘Background: There is currently no drug or therapy that cures COVID-19, a highly contagious and life-threatening disease. Objective: This systematic review and meta-analysis summarized contemporary studies that report the use of Chinese herbal medicine(CHM) to treat COVID-19.Search strategy: Six electronic databases(PubMed/MEDLINE, Cochrane Library, ScienceDirect, Google Scholar, Wanfang Data and China National Knowledge Infrastructure) were searched from their beginning to May 15, 2020 with the following search terms: traditional Chinese medicine, Chinese medicine,Chinese herbal medicine, COVID-19, new coronavirus pneumonia, SARS-CoV-2, and randomized controlled trial.Inclusion criteria: Randomized controlled trials(RCTs) from peer-reviewed journals and non-reviewed publications were included. Further, included RCTs had a control group that was given standard care(SC;such as conventional Western medicine treatments or routine medical care), and a treatment group that was given SC plus CHM.Data extraction and analysis: Two evaluators screened and collected literature independently;information on participants, study design, interventions, follow-up and adverse events were extracted, and risk of bias was assessed. The primary outcomes included scores that represented changes in symptoms and signs over the course of treatment. Secondary outcomes included the level of inflammatory markers, improvement of pneumonia confirmed by computed tomography(CT), and adverse events. Dichotomous data were expressed as risk ratio or hazard ratio with 95% confidence interval(CI);where time-to-event analysis was used, outcomes were expressed as odds ratio with 95% CI. Continuous data were expressed as difference in means(MD) with 95% CI, and standardized mean difference(SMD) was used when different outcome scales were pooled. Results: Seven original studies, comprising a total of 732 adults, were included in this meta-analysis.Compared to SC alone, CHM plus SC had a superior effect on the change of symptom and sign score(-1.30 by SMD, 95% CI [-2.43, -0.16];3 studies;n = 261, P = 0.03), on inflammatory marker C-reactive protein(CRP, mg/L;-11.82 by MD, 95% CI [-17.95, -5.69];5 studies;n = 325, P = 0.0002),on number of patients with improved lung CT scans(1.34 by risk ratio, 95% CI [1.19, 1.51];4 studies;n = 489, P < 0.00001). No significant adverse events were recorded in the included RCTs.Conclusion: Current evidence shows that CHM, as an adjunct treatment with standard care, helps to improve treatment outcomes in COVID-19 cases. | Arthur Yin Fan Sherman Gu Sarah Faggert Alemi Research Group for Evidence-based Chinese Medicine | 2020 | Journal of Integrative Medicine2020,18,5: | 12 |
| 2 | Effect of irrigation regime on grain yield, water productivity, and methane emissions in dry direct-seeded rice grown in raised beds with wheat straw incorporation显示文摘Dry direct-seeded rice grown in raised beds is becoming an important practice in the wheat–rice rotation system in China. However, little information has been available on the effect of various irrigation regimes on grain yield, water productivity(WP),nitrogen use efficiency(NUE),and greenhouse gas emission in this practice. This study investigated the question using two rice cultivars in 2015 and 2016 grown in soil with wheat straw incorporated into it.Rice seeds were directly seeded into raised beds, which were maintained under aerobic conditions during the early seedling period.Three irrigation regimes:continuous flooding(CF),alternate wetting and drying(AWD),and furrow irrigation(FI),were applied from 4.5-leaf-stage to maturity.Compared with CF,both AWD and FI significantly increased grain yield,WP,and internal NUE,with greater increases under the FI regime. The two cultivars showed the same tendency in both years. Both AWD and FI markedly increased soil redox potential, root and shoot biomass, root oxidation activity, leaf photosynthetic NUE,and harvest index and markedly decreased global warming potential, owing to substantial reduction in seasonalThe results demonstrate that adoption of either AWD or FI could increase grain yield and resource-use efficiency and reduce environmental risks in dry direct-seeded rice grown on raised beds with wheat straw incorporation in the wheat–rice rotation system. | Zhiqin Wang Daojian Gu Sarah S.Beebout Hao Zhang Lijun Liu Jianchang Yang Jianhua Zhang | 2018 | The Crop Journal2018,6,5: | 6 |

| 4 | Large area van der Waals epitaxy of II-VI CdSe thin films for flexible optoelectronics and full-color imaging显示文摘The demand for future semiconductor devices with enhanced performance and lower cost has driven the development of epitaxial growth of high quality,free-standing semiconductor thin film materials without the requirement of lattice matching to the substrate,as well as their transfer to other substrates and associated device processing technology. This work presents a study on the van der Waals epitaxy based molecular beam epitaxy of CdSe thin films on two-dimensional layered mica substrates,as well as related etch-free layer transfer technology of large area,free-standing layers and their application in flexible photodetectors for full-color imaging. The photoconductor detectors based on these flexible CdSe thin films demonstrate excellent device performance at room temperature in terms of responsivity(0.2 A·W^(-1))and detectivity(1.5×10^(12)Jones),leading to excellent full-color imaging quality in the visible spectral range. An etch-free and damage-free layer transfer method has been developed for transferring these CdSe thin films from mica to other substrate for further device processing and integration. These results demonstrate the feasibility of van der Waals epitaxy method for growing high quality, large area, and free-standing epitaxial layers without the requirement for lattice matching to substrate for applications in low-cost flexible and/or monolithic integrated optoelectronic devices. | Wenwu Pan Junliang Liu Zekai Zhang Renjie Gu Alexandra Suvorova Sarah Gain Han Wang Ziyuan Li Lan Fu Lorenzo Faraone Wen Lei | 2022 | Nano Research2022,15,1: | 1 |
