1Induction of Metallothionein in Rat Liver by Cadmium Chloride: Probable Mechanism of Action显示文摘The mechanism of action of cadmium in the inductive pathway of metallothionein (MT) synthesis was studied in the rat. Cadmium significantly elevated the MT leve by 872% which was antagonised by coadministration of either verapamil (343.5%) or innophore (570%). The Ca-dependent biomolecules such as cyclic AMP or calmodulin remained depressed in all treatment regimens except calmodulin in the ionophore treated rat. Total Ca2+ showed no increase in its profile except in the ionophore treatments either alone or with CdCl2. The Na+ profile is, however, significantly elevated in all cases except the ionophore treated rat. The present study clearly indicates that (a) Ca2+ has no first messenger role in the schematic events leading to MT synthtsis and (b) Na+ may be regarded as a possible candidate in the molecular events of Cd-induced MTBANIBRATA MUKHOPADHYAY SHAMBHUNATH BOSE SAMIR BHATTACHARYA AND SHELLEY BHATTACHARYA (Endocrinology Laboratory and Environmental Toxicology Laboratory, Department of Zoology, Visva-Bharati University,Santiniketan-731 235,India)To whom correspondence sho 1994Biomedical and Environmental Sciences1994,7,3:0
2Involvement of Mercury in Platelet Aggregation-Probable Mechanism of Action显示文摘Both in vivo and in vitro Hg2+ caused dose dependent inhibition of rat platelet aggregation. However, as low a dose as 88.8 pM Hg2+ could initiate ADP-induced aggregation even in the absence of added calcium. The action of Hg2+ was found to be unaffected by antagonists such as cAMP and theophylline either alone or in combination. Hg2+induced platelet aggregation was inhibited completely by pre-incubation with aspirin (1mmol·L-1), but it was ineffective when added after Hg2+. The results also indicate that the normal platelet function is affected by both high and low concentrations of Hg2+.SHIBANI CHAUDHURY BANIBRATA MUKHOPADHYAY SHAMBHUNATH BOSE AND SHELLEY BHATTACHARYA (Environmental Toxicology Laboratory, Department of Zoology,Visva Bharati University, Santiniketan 731 235,India) 1996Biomedical and Environmental Sciences1996,9,1:0
3Time Dependent Tissue Distribution of ^(203)Hg in the White Rat and Anabas testudineus, a Freshwater Teleost显示文摘The distribution of mercury,an environmentally important toxicant, has been evaluated in a time dependent manner i different tissues of white rat and a freshwater teleost.Anabas testudineus.Sampling was performed at 15min,2,6and 48h post injection(im)of ^203Hg mercuric nitrate.Radioactivity of the 5% tissue homogenate, serum and bile was measured in a Gamma Counter. The rate of ^203Hg accumulation is higher in fish immediately after administration which, however,is more or less of equal rate in the later period of observation in both the experimental animals.Partitioning of ^203Hg occurs in a species specific manner with higher levels recorded in the brain and gonad or white rat.Spleen, liver and kidney, however, are the major tissues to accumulate mercury in both the species. The present study highlights that kidney is the target site of mercury retention with a higher kidney/liver ration of mercury.SHAMBHUNATH BOSE PROBODH GHOSH SHAMPA GHOSH SHIBANI CHAUDHURY SHELLEY BHATTACHARYA 1992Biomedical and Environmental Sciences1992,5,4:0
