3Study on Transonic Tone in an Axisymmetric Supersonic Nozzle显示文摘This paper describes experimental and numerical works to investigate noise phenomenon in supersonic flow discharged from a convergent-divergent nozzle.The noise phenomenon of flow is generated by an emission of 'transonic tones'.The results obtained show that the frequency of a transonic tone,that differs from the frequency of a screech tone due to the shock-cell structures in a jet and originates in the shock wave in the nozzle,increases in proportion to the nozzle pressure ratio.The high-order transonic tone has the directivity in the direction of the flow.As for the transonic tone's frequency,the separated zone was calculated by using a simple flow model considering the propagating perturbation.The results of the model corresponded to the results of this experiment well.M.Yonamine S.Jung T.Aoki 2010Journal of Thermal Science2010,19,5:1

10Complex skin modes in non-Hermitian coupled laser arrays显示文摘From biological ecosystems to spin glasses,connectivity plays a crucial role in determining the function,dynamics,and resiliency of a network.In the realm of non-Hermitian physics,the possibility of complex and asymmetric exchange interactions(|κ_(ij)|≠|κ_(ji)|)between a network of oscillators has been theoretically shown to lead to novel behaviors like delocalization,skin effect,and bulk-boundary correspondence.An archetypical lattice exhibiting the aforementioned properties is that proposed by Hatano and Nelson in a series of papers in late 1990s.While the ramifications of these theoretical works in optics have been recently pursued in synthetic dimensions,the Hatano-Nelson model has yet to be realized in real space.What makes the implementation of these lattices challenging is the difficulty in establishing the required asymmetric exchange interactions in optical platforms.In this work,by using active optical oscillators featuring non-Hermiticity and nonlinearity,we introduce an anisotropic exchange between the resonant elements in a lattice,an aspect that enables us to observe the non-Hermitian skin effect,phase locking,and near-field beam steering in a Hatano-Nelson laser array.Our work opens up new regimes of phase-locking in lasers while shedding light on the fundamental physics of non-Hermitian systems.Yuzhou G.N.Liu Yunxuan Wei Omid Hemmatyar Georgios G.Pyrialakos Pawel S.Jung Demetrios N.Christodoulides Mercedeh Khajavikhan 2022Light(Science & Applications)2022,11,12:0
11Hair follicles as a target structure for nanoparticles显示文摘For at least two decades,nanoparticles have been investigated for their capability to deliver topically applied substances through the skin barrier.Based on findings that nanoparticles are highly suitable for penetrating the blood--brain barrier,their use for drug delivery through the skin has become a topic of intense research.In spite of the research efforts by academia and industry,a commercial product permitting the nanoparticle-assisted delivery of topically applied drugs has not yet been developed.However,nanoparticles of approximately 600 nm in diameter have been shown to penetrate fficiently into the hair fllieles where they can be stored for several days.The successful loading of nanoparticles with drugs and their triggered release inside the hair fllile may present an ideal method for localized drug delivery.Depending on the particle size,such a method would permit targeting specific structures in the hair fllicles such a stem ells or immune cells or blood vessels found in the vicinity of the hair follicles.J.Lademann F.Knorr H.Richter S.Jung M.C.Meinke E.Rühl U.Alexiev M.Calderon A.Patzelt 2015Journal of Innovative Optical Health Sciences2015,8,4:0
12Impact of rewilding,species introductions and climate change on the structure and function of the Yukon boreal forest ecosystem显示文摘Community and ecosystem changes are happening in the pristine boreal forest ecosystem of the Yukon for 2 reasons.First,climate change is affecting the abiotic environment(temperature,rainfall and growing season)and driving changes in plant productivity and predator-prey interactions.Second,simultaneously change is occurring because of mammal species reintroductions and rewilding.The key ecological question is the impact these faunal changes will have on trophic dynamics.Primary productivity in the boreal forest is increasing because of climatic warming,but plant species composition is unlikely to change significantly during the next 50-100 years.The 9-10-year population cycle of snowshoe hares will persist but could be reduced in amplitude if winter weather increases predator hunting efficiency.Small rodents have increased in abundance because of increased vegetation growth.Arctic ground squirrels have disappeared from the forest because of increased predator hunting efficiency associated with shrub growth.Reintroductions have occurred for 2 reasons:human reintroductions of large ungulates and natural recolonization of mammals and birds extending their geographic ranges.The deliberate rewilding of wood bison(Bison bison)and elk(Cervus canadensis)has changed the trophic structure of this boreal ecosystem very little.The natural range expansion of mountain lions(Puma concolor),mule deer(Odocoileus hemionus)and American marten(Martes americana)should have few ecosystem effects.Understanding potential changes will require long-term monitoring studies and experiments on a scale we rarely deem possible.Ecosystems affected by climate change,species reintroductions and human alteration of habitats cannot remain stable and changes will be critically dependent on food web interactions.Rudy BOONSTRA Stan BOUTIN Thomas S.JUNG Charles J.KREBS Shawn TAYLOR 2018Integrative Zoology2018,13,2:0
13Does Direct-to-Consumer Prescription Drug Advertising Achieve a Mechanistic Fair Balance?
