| 1 | Hydrogen Sulfide Alleviates Aluminum Toxicity in Germinating Wheat Seedlings显示文摘Protective role of hydrogen sulfide(H2S) on seed germination and seedling growth was studied in wheat(Triticum) seeds subjected to aluminum(Al3+) stress.We show that germination and seedling growth of wheat is inhibited by high concentrations of AlCl3.At 30 mmol/L AlCl3 germination is reduced by about 50% and seedling growth is more dramatically inhibited by this treatment.Pre-incubation of wheat seeds in the H2S donor NaHS alleviates AlCl3-induced stress in a dose-dependant manner at an optimal concentration of 0.3 mmol/L.We verified that the role of NaHS in alleviating Al3+ stress could be attributed to H2S/HS-by showing that the level of endogenous H2S increased following NaHS treatment.Furthermore,other sodium salts containing sulfur were ineffective in alleviating Al3+ stress.NaHS pretreatment significantly increased the activities of amylases and esterases and sustained much lower levels of MDA and H2O2 in germinating seeds under Al3+ stress.Moreover,NaHS pretreatment increased the activities of guaiacol peroxidase,ascorbate peroxidase,superoxide dismutase and catalase and decreased that of lipoxygenase.NaHS pretreatment also decreased the uptake of Al3+ in AlCl3-treated seed.Taken together these results suggest that H2S could increase antioxidant capability in wheat seeds leading to the alleviation of Al3+ stress. | Hua Zhang Zhu-Qin Tan Lan-Ying Hu Song-Hua Wang Jian-Ping Luo Russell L. | 5 | A causation mechanism for coal bursts during roadway development based on the major horizontal stress in coal:Very specific structural geology causing a localised loss of effective coal confinement and Newton’s second law显示文摘In 2017,one of the international authorities on coal bursts,Mark Christopher,published a paper entitled'Coal bursts that occur during development:A rock mechanics enigma',in which several relevant technical issues were identified.This paper outlines what is considered to be a credible,first-principles,mechanistic explanation for these three current development coal burst conundrums by reference to early published coal testing work examining the significance of a lack of'constraint'to coal stability and an understanding of how very specific structural geology and other geological features can logically cause this to occur in situ,albeit on a statistically very rare basis.This basic model is examined by reference to published information pertaining to the development coal-burst that occurred at the Austar Coal Mine in New South Wales,Australia,in 2014 and from the Sunnyside District in Utah,the United States.The'cause and effect'model for development of coal bursts presented also offers a meaningful explanation for the statistical improbability for what are nonetheless potentially highly-destructive events,being able to explain the statistical rarity being just as important to the credibility of the model as explaining the local conditions associated with burst events.The model could also form the basis for a robust,riskbased approach utilising a'hierarchy of controls',to the operational management of the development coal burst threat.Specifically,the use of pre-mining predictions for likely burst-prone and non-burstprone areas,the use of the mine layout to avoid or at least minimise mining within burst-prone areas if appropriate,and finally the development of an operational Trigger Action Response Plan(TARP)that reduces the likelihood of inadvertent roadway development into a burst-prone area without suitable safety controls already being in place. | Russell Frith Guy Reed Aaron Jones | 2020 | International Journal of Mining Science and Technology2020，30，1： | 3 |

| 8 | An innovation in child health:Globally reaching out to child health professionals显示文摘Worldwide deaths of children younger than 5 years reduced from 12.7 million in 1990 to 6.3 million in 2013.Much of this decline is attributed to an increase in the knowledge,skills,and abilities of child health professionals.In turn this increase in knowledge,skills,and abilities has been brought about by increased child-health-focused education available to child health professionals.Therefore child-health-focused education must be part of the strategy to eliminate the remaining 6.3 million deaths and to achieve the United Nations Millennium Development Goals.This article describes a child-health-focused program that was established in 1992 and operates in 20 countries:Australia,Bangladesh,Botswana,Cambodia,China,Ethiopia,Hong Kong,India,Kenya,Malawi,Mongolia,Myanmar,Sierra Leone,the Seychelles,the Solomon Islands,Tanzania,Tonga,Vanuatu,Vietnam,and Zimbabwe.The Diploma in Child Health/International Postgraduate Paediatric Certificate(DCH/IPPC)course provides a comprehensive overview of evidence-based current best practice in pediatrics.This includes all subspecialty areas from infectious diseases and emergency medicine through to endocrinology,respiratory medicine,neurology,nutrition,and dietetics.Content is developed and presented by international medical experts in response to global child health needs.Content is provided to students via a combination of learning outcomes,webcasts,lecture notes,personalized study,tutorials,case studies,and clinical practice.One hundred eleven webcasts are provided,and these are updated annually.This article includes a brief discussion of the value and focus of medical education programs;a description of the DCH/IPPC course content,approaches to teaching and learning,course structure and the funding model;the most recent evaluation of the DCH/IPPC course;and recommendations for overcoming the challenges for implementing a multinational child-health-focused program. | Russell Jones Kathryn Currow Mary Kwong Pramila Menon | 2016 | Family Medicine and Community Health2016，4，3： | 2 |
