1Interleukin-12 and Th1 immune response in Crohn’s disease: Pathogenetic relevance and therapeutic inplication显示文摘Crohn’s disease (CD) and ulcerative colitis (UC) are chronic inflammatory disorders of the gastrointestinal tract that share clinical and pathological characteristics. The most accredited hypothesis is that both CD and UC result from a deregulated mucosal immune response to normal constituents of the gut microflora. Evidence, however, indicates that the main pathological processes in these two diseases are distinct. In CD, the tissue- damaging inflammatory reaction is driven by activated type 1 helper T-cell (Th1), whereas a humoral response predominates in UC. Consistently, a marked accumulation of macrophages making interleukin (IL)-12, the major Th1-inducing factor, is seen in CD but not in UC mucosa. Preliminary studies also indicate that administration of a monoclonal antibody blocking the IL-12/p40 subunit can be useful to induce and maintain clinical remission in CD patients. Notably, the recently described IL-23 shares the p40 subunit with IL-12, raising the possibility that the clinical benefit of the anti-IL-12/p40 antibody in CD may also be due to the neutralization of IL-23 activity. 2Cerium,manganese and cerium/manganese ceramic monolithic catalysts.Study of VOCs and PM removal显示文摘Ceramic supported cerium, manganese and cerium-manganese catalysts were prepared by direct impregnation of aqueous precursor, and characterized by scanning electron microscopy(SEM), X-ray diffraction(XRD), Brunauer-Emmett-Teller method(BET), temperature programmed reduction(H_2-TPR), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS) acidity measurements and electrical conductivity. The catalytic activity was evaluated for volatile organic compounds(VOC)(ethanol, methyl ethyl ketone and toluene) oxidation. Additionally, catalysts were tested in particulate matter(PM) combustion. The characterization results indicated that Ce was in the form of Ce^(4+) and Ce^(3+), and Mn existed in the form of Mn^(4+) and Mn^(3+) on the surface of the Mn/AC sample and in the form of Mn^(4+) in the Ce/Mn/AC monolith. VOC oxidation results revealed that the Ce/Mn/AC sample showed an excellent performance compared with ceramic supported CeO_2(Ce/AC) and MnO_x(Mn/AC) samples. The PM combustion was also higher on Ce/Mn/AC monoliths. 3Diet in neurogenic bowel management:A viewpoint on spinal cord injury显示文摘The aim of this review is to offer dietary advice for individuals with spinal cord injury(SCI)and neurogenic bowel dysfunction.With this in mind,we consider health conditions that are dependent on the level of lesion including skeletal muscle atrophy,autonomic dysreflexia and neurogenic bladder.In addition,SCI is often associated with a sedentary lifestyle,which increases risk for osteoporosis and diseases associated with chronic low-grade inflammation,including cardiovascular and chronic kidney diseases.The Mediterranean diet,along with exercise and dietary supplements,has been suggested as an anti-inflammatory intervention in individuals with SCI.However,individuals with chronic SCI have a daily intake of whole fruit,vegetables and whole grains lower than the recommended dietary allowance for the general population.Some studies have reported an increase in neurogenic bowel dysfunction symptoms after high fiber intake;therefore,this finding could explain the low consumption of plant foods.Low consumption of fibre induces dysbiosis,which is associated with bothendotoxemia and inflammation.Dysbiosis can be reduced by exercise and diet in individuals with SCI.Therefore,to summarize our viewpoint,we developed a Mediterranean diet-based diet and exercise pyramid to integrate nutritional recommendations and exercise guidelines.Nutritional guidelines come from previously suggested recommendations for military veterans with disabilities and individuals with SCI,chronic kidney diseases,chronic pain and irritable bowel syndrome.We also considered the recent exercise guidelines and position stands for adults with SCI to improve muscle strength,flexibility and cardiorespiratory fitness and to obtain cardiometabolic benefits.Finally,dietary advice for Paralympic athletes is suggested.Marco Bernardi Anna Lucia Fedullo Elisabetta Bernardi Diego Munzi Ilaria Peluso Jonathan Myers Florigio Romano Lista Tommaso Sciarra 2020World Journal of Gastroenterology2020,26,20:7
