1Performance evaluation for selectivity of the flocculant on hematite in selective flocculation显示文摘Increased demand for iron ore necessitates the utilization of low-grade iron ore fines,slimes,and existing tailings.Selective flocculation can be an alternative physico-chemical process for utilizing these low-grade fines,slimes,and tailings.In selective flocculation,the most critical objective is the selection of proper reagents that will make floc of desired minerals.In present study,selective flocculation was applied to ultra-fine synthetic mixtures of hematite and kaolinite,and the Fe value was upgraded up to 65.78% with the reduction of Al2O3 and SiO2 values to 2.65% and 3.66%,respectively.Here,degraded wheat starch was used as a flocculant.In this process,separation occurs on the basis of the selectivity of the flocculant.The selectivity of the flocculant can be quantified in terms of separation effciency.Here,an attempt was also made to develop a correlation between separation effciency and major operating parameters such as flocculent dose,pH value,and solid concentration to predict the separation performance.Lopamudra Panda Pradip K.Banerjee Surendra Kumar Biswal R.Venugopal N.R.Mandre 2013International Journal of Minerals,Metallurgy and Materials2013,20,12:4

3Folic acid protects against fluoride-induced oxidative stress and testicular damage in rats显示文摘Objective:To investigate the effects of folic acid on testicular oxidative damage in sodium fluoride-induced male Wistar rats.Methods:A total of 24 male Wistar rats were divided into 4 groups:the control,sodium fluoride(fed with 100 mg/L sodium fluoride through drinking water orally for 21 days),folic acid(36μg/kg body weight/day,orally),and sodium fluoride plus folic acid(received similar dose orally)groups.At the end of 21 days,epididymal sperm parameters,biochemical analysis of testicular tissue,and serum hormonal levels were performed along with histopathological studies.Results:Sodium fluoride intoxication resulted in marked reduction in gonado somatic index,serum luteinizing hormone,and testosterone level along with 3β-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase and 17β-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase activities.In addition,reduction in sperm density,as well as loss of sperm motility and sperm viability,were also observed.Besides,increased levels of testicular malondialdehyde,nitrite,interleukin-6 and tumor necrosis factor-α as well as decreased levels of superoxide dismutase and catalase activities and reduced glutathione content were found to be associated with this toxicity.Folic acid co-treatment,on the other hand,could prevent all the sodium fluoride-induced testicular pathophysiology and oxidative stress related parameters.Histological examinations of testicular sections from the experimental rats supported these results.Conclusions:Combining all,this study suggests that being an antioxidant,folic acid plays a beneficial role against fluoride-induced adverse effects on the male reproductive system.Ray Dibyendu Chatterjee Tiasa Monalisha Das Panda Pradip Mukherjee Sandip 2021Asian pacific Journal of Reproduction2021,10,6:0
4Variability of waste copper slag concrete and its effect on the seismic safety of reinforced concrete building: A case study显示文摘Proven research output on the behavior of structures made of waste copper slag concrete can improve its utilization in the construction industry and thereby help to develop a sustainable built environment.Although numerous studies on waste copper slag concrete can be found in the published literature,no research has focused on the structural application of this type of concrete.In particular,the variability in the strength properties of waste copper slag concrete,which is required for various structural applications,such as limit state design formulation,reliability-based structural analysis,etc.,has so far not attracted the attention of researchers.This paper quantifies the uncertainty associated with the compressive-,flexural-and split tensile strength of hardened concrete with different dosages of waste copper slag as fine aggregate.Best-fit probability distribution models are proposed based on statistical analyses of strength data generated from laboratory experiments.In addition,the paper presents a reliability-based seismic risk assessment of a typical waste copper slag incorporated reinforced concrete framed building,considering the proposed distribution model.The results show that waste copper slag can be safely used for seismic resistant structures as it results in an identical probability of failure and dispersion in the drift demand when compared with a conventional concrete building made of natural sand.Swetapadma PANDA Nikhil P.ZADE Pradip SARKAR Robin DAVIS 2022Frontiers of Structural and Civil Engineering2022,16,1:0
