| 1 | Characterization and application of tourmaline and beryl from Brazilian pegmatite in adsorption process with divalent metals显示文摘In this study, the original tourmaline and beryl mineral samples have been collected from a Brazilian pegmatite. The objective of this study was to examine the adsorption behavior of Brazilian ciclosilicate samples, towards divalent metals(Pb 2+,Mn 2+,and Zn 2+) in ethanol solution has been studies by a batch technique. The ciclosilicate samples were characterized by elemental analysis,Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, helium picnometry, mercury porosity, and nitrogen adsorption-desorption.The Langmuir expression for adsorption isotherm was applied in order to determine the adsorption capacity to form a monolayer and the constant related to the adsorption intensity. In aqueous solution there was a significant adsorption increase with the temperature and pronounced synergistic effects were observed. The maximum number of moles adsorbed was determined to be 12.48 and 11.49 mmol/g for systems Pb 2+ /beryl and Pb 2+ /tourmaline,respectively.The energetic effects caused by metal cations adsorption were determined through calorimetric titrations.Thermodynamics indicated the existence of favorable conditions for such Pb 2+-,Mn 2+-,and Zn 2+-OH interactions. | Denis L.Guerra Silze P.Oliveira Ricardo A.R.Silva Victor Leidens Adriano C.Batista | 2012 | International Journal of Mining Science and Technology2012,22,5: | 3 |
| 2 | Observation and modelling of stimulated Raman scattering driven by an optically smoothed laser beam in experimental conditions relevant for shock ignition显示文摘We report results and modelling of an experiment performed at the Target Area West Vulcan laser facility, aimed at investigating laser±plasma interaction in conditions that are of interest for the shock ignition scheme in inertial confinement fusion(ICF),that is,laser intensity higher than 10^(16) W/cm^(2) impinging on a hot(T>1 keV),inhomogeneous and long scalelength pre-formed plasma.Measurements show a significant stimulated Raman scattering(SRS)backscattering(;%-20%of laser energy)driven at low plasma densities and no signatures of two-plasmon decay(TPD)/SRS driven at the quarter critical density region. Results are satisfactorily reproduced by an analytical model accounting for the convective SRS growth in independent laser speckles,in conditions where the reflectivity is dominated by the contribution from the most intense speckles, where SRS becomes saturated.Analytical and kinetic simulations well reproduce the onset of SRS at low plasma densities in a regime strongly affected by non-linear Landau damping and by filamentation of the most intense laser speckles. The absence of TPD/SRS at higher densities is explained by pump depletion and plasma smoothing driven by filamentation. The prevalence of laser coupling in the low-density profile justifies the low temperature measured for hot electrons(7-12 keV),which is well reproduced by numerical simulations. | G.Cristoforetti S.Hüller P.Koester L.Antonelli S.Atzeni F.Baffigi D.Batani C.Baird N.Booth M.Galimberti K.Glize A.Héron M.Khan P.Loiseau D.Mancelli M.Notley P.Oliveira O.Renner M.Smid A.Schiavi G.Tran N.C.Woolsey L.A.Gizzi | 2021 | High Power Laser Science and Engineering2021,9,4: | 1 |
| 3 | Bremsstrahlung emission from high power laser interactions with constrained targets for industrial radiography显示文摘Laser-solid interactions are highly suited as a potential source of high energy X-rays for nondestructive imaging.A bright, energetic X-ray pulse can be driven from a small source, making it ideal for high resolution X-ray radiography.By limiting the lateral dimensions of the target we are able to confine the region over which X-rays are produced, enabling imaging with enhanced resolution and contrast.Using constrained targets we demonstrate experimentally a(20±3)μm X-ray source, improving the image quality compared to unconstrained foil targets.Modelling demonstrates that a larger sheath field envelope around the perimeter of the constrained targets increases the proportion of electron current that recirculates through the target, driving a brighter source of X-rays. | C.D.Armstrong C.M.Brenner C.Jones D.R.Rusby Z.E.Davidson Y.Zhang J.Wragg S.Richards C.Spindloe P.Oliveira M.Notley R.Clarke S.R.Mirfayzi S.Kar Y.Li T.Scott P.McKenna D.Neely | 2019 | High Power Laser Science and Engineering2019,7,2: | 0 |

| 6 | The transcontinental variability of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease显示文摘Aim:To compare the phenotype of lean versus overweight(OW)and obese(OB)subjects with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease(NAFLD)across multiple continents. Methods:A retrospective study of histologically defined subjects from a single center each in France(Fr),Brazil(Br),India(In)and United States(US)was performed. Results:A total of 70 lean[body mass index(BMI)<25 kg/m2]subjects(Fr:Br:In:US:16:19:22:13)with NAFLD were compared to 136 OW(BMI>25 kg/m2,BMI<29 kg/m2)(n=28:33:52:23)and 224 OB subjects(BMI>29 kg/m2)(n=81:11:22:103).Lean French subjects had the lowest incidence of type 2 diabetes while those from Brazil(P<0.01)had the highest.Lean subjects had similar low-density lipoprotein-cholesterol,but higher high-density lipoprotein-cholesterol compared to obese subjects in all regions. In both lean and obese subjects, there were both insulin-sensitive and insulin-resistant subjects.Lean French subjects were most insulin-sensitive while those from Brazil were mostly insulin-resistant.For each weight category, subjects from India were more insulin-sensitive than those from other regions.Disease activity increased from lean to overweight to obese in France but was similar across weight categories in other regions. Conclusion:The phenotype of NAFLD in lean subjects varies by region. Some obese subjects with NAFLD are insulin-sensitive.We hypothesize that genetics and region-specific disease modifiers account for these differences. | Claudia P.Oliveira Angelo Paredes Mohammed Siddiqui Lawrence Serfaty Abhijit Chowdhury Jose Tadeu Stefano Denise Siqueira Vanni Sherry Boyett Arun J.Sanyal | 2020 | Hepatoma Research2020,6,10: | 0 |
