| 4 | Body mass index is associated with age-at-onset of HCV-infected hepatocellular carcinoma patients显示文摘AIM: To identify factors associated with the age at onset of hepatitis C virus (HCV)-related hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). METHODS: Five hundred and fifty-six consecutive patients positive for HCV antibody and treatment-nafive HCC diagnosed between 1995 and 2004 were analyzed. Patients were classified into three groups according to age at HCC onset: < 60 years (n = 79), 60-79 years (n = 439), or ≥ 80 years (n = 38). Differences among groups in terms of sex, body mass index (BMI), lifestyle characteristics, and liver function were assessed. Factors associated with HCC onset in patients < 60 or ≥ 80 years were analyzed by logistic regression analysis. RESULTS: Significant differences emerged for sex, BMI, degree of smoking and alcohol consumption, mean bilirubin, alanine aminotransferase (ALT), and γ-glutamyl transpeptidase (GGT) levels, prothrombin activity, and platelet counts. The mean BMI values of male patients > 60 years old were lower and mean BMI values of female patients < 60 years old were higher than those of the general Japanese population. BMI > 25 kg/m2 [hazard ratio (HR), 1.8, P = 0.045], excessive alcohol consumption (HR, 2.5, P = 0.024), male sex (HR, 3.6, P = 0.002), and GGT levels > 50 IU/L (HR, 2.4, P = 0.014) were independently associated with HCC onset in patients < 60 years. Low ALT level was the only factor associated with HCC onset in patients aged ≥ 80 years. CONCLUSION: Increased BMI is associated with increased risk for early HCC development in HCV-infected patients. | 6 | A novel use of TiO_2 fiber for photocatalytic ozonation of 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid in aqueous solution显示文摘More efficient oxidation methods are needed to degrade especially newly emerging recalcitrant organic contaminants at low concentrations in the water environment. Reduced photonic efficiency of immobilized TiO2 is a major challenge in TiO2-assisted advanced oxidation processes (AOP). Mineralization of 2,4-dichllorophenoxyacetic acid (2,4-D) in low aqueous solution by O3/UV/TiO2 using the world's first high-strength TiO2 fiber was investigated and compared with O3, UV/TiO2, and O3/TiO2 in laboratory batch experiments. The 2,4-D degradation and total organic carbon (TOC) removal followed pseudo first-order reaction kinetic, while their rates in O3/UV/TiO2 were respectively about 1.5 and 2.4 times larger than the summation of the values in O3 and UV/TiO2. The O3/UV/TiO2 was characterized by few aromatics with very low abundance, fast disappearance of aliphatics and more than 95% dechlorination. The discrepancies in organic carbon mass balance among the intermediates and 2,4-D were attributed mainly to few apparently major unidentified intermediates. The significantly enhanced 2,4-D mineralization in O3/UV/TiO2 was attributed to increased ozone dissolution followed by its decomposition, and reduced electron-hole recombination in presence of dissolved ozone resulting in a large number of hydroxyl radical (·OH) generation from more than one parallel path. | 7 | Differential effects of physical activity and sleep duration on cognitive function in young adults显示文摘Purpose: Although exercise and sleep duration habits are associated with cognitive function, their beneficial effects on cognitive function remain unclear. We aimed to examine the effect of sleep duration and daily physical activity on cognitive function, elucidating the neural mechanisms using near-infrared spectroscopy(NIRS).Methods: A total of 23 healthy young adults(age 22.0 ± 2.2 years) participated in this study. Exercise amount was assessed using a uniaxial accelerometer. We evaluated total sleep time(TST) and sleep efficiency by actigraphy. Cognitive function was tested using the N-back task, the Wisconsin Card Sorting Test(WCST), and the Continuous Performance Test—Identical Pairs(CPT-IP), and the cortical oxygenated hemoglobin levels during a word fluency task were measured with NIRS.Results: Exercise amount was significantly correlated with reaction time on 0- and 1-back tasks(r = —0.602, p = 0.002; r = —0.446, p = 0.033,respectively), whereas TST was significantly correlated with % corrects on the 2-back task(r = 0.486, p = 0.019). Multiple regression analysis,including exercise amount, TST, and sleep efficiency, revealed that exercise amount was the most significant factor for reaction time on 0- and 1-back tasks(b = —0.634, p = 0.002; b = —0.454, p = 0.031, respectively), and TST was the most significant factor for % corrects on the 2-back task(b = 0.542, p = 0.014). The parameter measured by WCST and CPT-IP was not significantly correlated with TST or exercise amount. Exercise amount, but not TST, was significantly correlated with the mean area under the NIRS curve in the prefrontal area(r = 0.492, p = 0.017).Conclusion: Exercise amount and TST had differential effects on working memory and cortical activation in the prefrontal area. | 9 | 辽宁双台河口黑嘴鸥的迁徙模式与种群生存率显示文摘1996-2008年6月份,对辽宁双台河口国家级自然保护区黑嘴鸥使用特定编码的彩色旗标,共标记2820只。其中成鸟31只,幼鸟2789只。根据23个越冬地点2729条彩色旗标的重见记录,推测辽宁双台河口黑嘴鸥的迁徙路线主要有两条:一条向东迁徙至韩国西南沿海及日本西部沿海越冬;另一条向南迁徙至我国天津以南的东部沿海,包括台湾西部沿海越冬。依据1996-2007年双台河口标记的黑嘴鸥幼鸟当年在日本西部沿海重见记录,计算12a间其相对生存率为(7.77±4.00)%(1.67%-14.89%)。其中1997、2001、2004、2006和2007年的相对生存率均低于平均水平,特别是2006年达到12年来的最低值(1.67%)。采用MARK软件中的Cormack-Jolly-Seber(CJS)模型,估计黑嘴鸥亚成体和成体的年生存率分别为0.613±0.058和0.746±0.042,重见率分别为0.897±0.04和0.799±0.053。亚成体较成体的重见率高,可能与亚成体到达越冬地相对比较集群有关。同时建议开展更多的彩色旗标观察活动,便于进一步了解同一越冬地中不同年龄段黑嘴鸥的移动规律。 | 江红星 侯韵秋 李玉祥 Masayoshi TAKEISHI Kiyoaki OZAKI 杨玉成 郑光美 | 2010 | 生态学报2010,30,15: | 4 |

| 11 | Vitamin K and hepatocellular carcinoma: The basic and clinic显示文摘Vitamin K(VK), which was originally identified as a cofactor involved in the production of functional coagulation factors in the liver, has been shown to be involved in various aspects of physiological and pathological events, including bone metabolism, cardiovascular diseases and tumor biology. The mechanisms and roles of VK are gradually becoming clear. Several novel enzymes involved in the VK cycle were identified and have been shown to be linked to tumorigenesis. The VKs have been shown to suppress liver cancer cell growth through multiple signaling pathways via the transcription factors and protein kinases. A VK2 analog was applied to the chemoprevention of hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC) recurrence after curative therapy and was shown to have beneficial effects, both in the suppression of HCC recurrence and in patient survival. Although a large scale randomized control study failed to demonstrate the suppression of HCC recurrence, a meta-analysis suggested a beneficial effect on the long-term survival of HCC patients. However, the beneficial effects of VK administration alone were not sufficient to prevent or treat HCC in clinical settings.
