11Modern drug discovery for inflammatory bowel disease: The role of computational methods显示文摘Inflammatory bowel diseases(IBDs)comprising ulcerative colitis,Crohn’s disease and microscopic colitis are characterized by chronic inflammation of the gastrointestinal tract.IBD has spread around the world and is becoming more prevalent at an alarming rate in developing countries whose societies have become more westernized.Cell therapy,intestinal microecology,apheresis therapy,exosome therapy and small molecules are emerging therapeutic options for IBD.Currently,it is thought that low-molecular-mass substances with good oral bio-availability and the ability to permeate the cell membrane to regulate the action of elements of the inflammatory signaling pathway are effective therapeutic options for the treatment of IBD.Several small molecule inhibitors are being developed as a promising alternative for IBD therapy.The use of highly efficient and time-saving techniques,such as computational methods,is still a viable option for the development of these small molecule drugs.The computeraided(in silico)discovery approach is one drug development technique that has mostly proven efficacy.Computational approaches when combined with traditional drug development methodology dramatically boost the likelihood of drug discovery in a sustainable and cost-effective manner.This review focuses on the modern drug discovery approaches for the design of novel IBD drugs with an emphasis on the role of computational methods.Some computational approaches to IBD genomic studies,target identification,and virtual screening for the discovery of new drugs and in the repurposing of existing drugs are discussed.Titilayo Omolara Johnson Augustina Oduje Akinsanmi Stephen Adakole Ejembi Olugbenga Eyitayo Adeyemi Jane-Rose Oche Grace Inioluwa Johnson Abayomi Emmanuel Adegboyega 2023World Journal of Gastroenterology2023,29,2:0
12Development of Recovery and Redundancy Model for Real Time Wireless Networks显示文摘The growth in wireless technologies applications makes the necessity of providing a reliable communication over wireless networks become obvious.Guaranteeing real time communication in wireless medium poses a significant challenge due to its poor delivery reliability.In this study,a recovery and redundancy model based on sequential time division multiple access(S-TDMA)for wireless communication is developed.The media access control(MAC)layer of the S-TDMA determines which station should transmit at a given time slot based on channel state of the station.Simulations of the system models were carried out using MATLAB SIMULINK software.SIMULINK blocks from the signal processing and communication block sets were used to model the communication system.The S-TDMA performance is evaluated with total link reliability,system throughput,average probability of correct delivery before deadline and system latency.The evaluation results displayed in graphs when compared with instant retry and drop of frame were found to be reliable in recovering loss packets.Boniface Kayode Alese Bamidele Moses Kuboye Omolara Iyabode Alabede 2022Journal of Computer Science Research2022,4,3:0
13Harnessing the power of pericytes and hypoxia-inducible factor-1 to modulate stroke outcome显示文摘The human brain has exceedingly high metabolic demands.The cerebral vasculature has the critical task of providing sufficient blood supply to meet this demand.The sudden interruption of blood flow to the brain,as observed during ischemic stroke,results in acute neurological injury with devastating consequences-a high rate of adult disability and death.Ischemic stroke is thus a vascular disorder with a dramatic neurological impact.There is an urgent need for more effective disease management to combat stroke as current treatment paradigms,focusing on vascular recanalization and neuroprotection,have only limited clinical success.Since accumulating data suggests successful long-term neuroprotection is unlikely to be achievable without a functional microvascular network,strategies that reduce endothelial dysfunction could be indispensable.Encouragingly,very recent evidence highlighted herein suggests protecting the humble pericyte may be a new approach to reaching this goal.Omolara O.Ogunshola Chih-Chieh Tsao 2024Neural Regeneration Research2024,19,3:0
