Biochemical and microbial properties of rhizospheres under maize/ peanut intercropping显示文摘Maize/peanut intercropping system shows the significant yield advantage. Soil microbes play major roles in soil nutrient cycling and were affected by intercropping plants. This experiment was carried out to evaluate the changing of rhizosphere microbial community composition, and the relationship between microbial community and soil enzymatic activities, soil nutrients in maize/peanut intercropping system under the following three treatments: maize(Zea mays L.) and peanut(Arachis hypogaea L.) were intercropped without any separation(NS), by half separation(HS) using a nylon net(50 μm) and complete separation(CS) by using a plastic sheet, respectively. The soil microbial communities were assessed by phospholipid fatty acid(PLFA). We found that soil available nutrients(available nitrogen(Avail N) and available phosphorus(Avail P)) and enzymatic activities(soil urase and phosphomonoesterase) in both crops were improved in NS and HS treatments as compared to CS. Both bacterial and fungal biomasses in both crops were increased in NS followed by HS. Furthermore, Gram-positive bacteria( G+) in maize soils were significant higher in NS and HS than CS, while the Gram-negative(G–) was significant higher in peanut soil. The ratio of normal saturated to monounsaturated PLFAs was significantly higher in rhizosphere of peanut under CS treatment than in any other treatments, which is an indicator of nutrient stress. Redundancy analysis and cluster analysis of PLFA showed rhizospheric microbial community of NS and HS of both plants tended to be consistent. The urase and Avail N were higher in NS and HS of both plants and positively correlated with bacteria, fungi(F) and total PLFAs, while negatively correlated with G+/G– and NS/MS. The findings suggest that belowground interactions in maize/peanut intercropping system play important roles in changing the soil microbial composition and the dominant microbial species, which was closely related with the improving of soil available nutrients(N and P) and enzymatic activities.LI Qi-song 2016Journal of Integrative Agriculture2016,15,1:24
Atrial fibrillation in heart failure: The sword of damocles revisited显示文摘Heart failure (HF) and atrial fibrillation (AF) frequently coexist and have emerged as major cardiovascular epidemics. There is growing evidence that AF is an independent prognostic marker in HF and affects patients with both reduced as well as preserved LV systolic function. There has been a general move in clinical practice from a rhythm control to a rate control strategy in HF patients with AF, although recent data suggests that rhythm control strategies may provide better outcomes in selected subgroups of HF patients. Furthermore, various therapeutic modalities including pace and ablate strategies with cardiac resynchronisation or radio-frequency ablation have become increasingly adopted, although their role in the management of AF in patients with HF remains uncertain. This article presents an overview of the multidimensional impact of AF in patients with HF. Relevant literature is highlighted and the effect of various therapeutic modalities on prognosis is discussed. Finally, while novel anticoagulants usher in a new era in thromboprophylaxis, research continues in avariety of new pathways including selective atrial anti-arrhythmic agents and genomic polymorphisms in AF with HF.Muhammad A Khan Fozia Ahmed Ludwig Neyses Mamas A Mamas 2013World Journal of Cardiology2013,5,7:4
Surface plasmon polariton at the interface of dielectric and graphene medium using Kerr effect显示文摘We theoretically investigate the control of surface plasmon polariton(SPP) generated at the interface of dielectric and graphene medium under Kerr nonlinearity. The controlled Kerr nonlinear signal of probe light beam in a dielectric medium is used to generate SPPs at the interface of dielectric and graphene medium. The positive, negative absorption, and dispersion properties of SPPs are modified and controlled by the control and Kerr fields. A large amplification(negative absorption) is noted for SPPs under the Kerr nonlinearity. The normal/anomalous slope of dispersion and propagation length of SPPs is modified and controlled with Kerr nonlinearity. This leads to significant variation in slow and fast SPP propagation. The controlled slow and fast SPP propagation may predict significant applications in nano-photonics, optical tweezers, photovoltaic devices, plasmonster, and sensing technology.Bakhtawar Muhammad Haneef B A Bacha H Khan M Atif 2018Chinese Physics B2018,27,11:3
Physiological and biochemical appraisal for mulching and partial rhizosphere drying of cotton显示文摘Water is the main factor for the healthy life of plant. One of the main negative effects of climate change is the increasing scarcity of water that is lethal for plant.Globally, for water deficit regions(arid and semi-arid),drought is the main factor responsible for low production of agriculture, especially for cotton.Great efforts have been and are being made to find alternatives to water saving practices. This study aimed to examine the effects of partial rhizosphere drying(PRD,half of the root system irrigated at one event, and the other half irrigated in the next event, and so on)with and/or without various mulching treatments on physiological and biochemical traits of cotton. To explore this objective,we laid out experiments in completely randomized design with factorial arrangement in the Islamia University of Bahawalpur,Pakistan in 2016.Two factors included were four mulching treatments(M0,no mulching;M1,black plastic mulching;M2,wheat straw mulching;and M3,cotton sticks mulching)and two irrigation levels(I0,control(full irrigation);and I1,PRD).Fisher's analysis of variance among means of treatments was compared using least significant difference test at 5% probability level. Results revealed that the maximum plant height, leaf area, leaf gas exchange(photosynthetic rate and stomata conductance),chlorophyll, proline and total sugar contents, and enzyme activities were higher under M2 than under other three mulching treatments. As for irrigation levels, higher values of plant height, photosynthesis and water related parameters(leaf water potential, leaf osmotic potential, leaf turgor potential, etc.)were recorded.Contents of total sugar and proline and activities of antioxidant enzymes were significantly higher in PRD-treated plants than in control plants. It was concluded that combined application of PRD and mulching was more effective than the rest of the treatments used in the experiment.Similar study can be conducted in the field by applying irrigation water in alternate rows in semi-arid regions.Rashid IQBAL Muhammad A S RAZA Muhammad F SALEEM Imran H KHAN Salman AHMAD Muhammad S ZAHEER Muhammad U ASLAM Imran HAIDER 2019Journal of Arid Land2019,11,5:2

Connective tissue growth factor expression hints at aggressive nature of colorectal cancer显示文摘BACKGROUND Connective tissue growth factor(CTGF)is a mediator of transforming growth factor-beta signaling and plays a key role in connective tissue remodeling, inflammatory processes and fibrosis in various illnesses including cancer.AIM To investigate the role of CTGF in colorectal cancer(CRC)progression and to compare the CTGF expression with different clinicopathological parameters.METHODS Real-time polymerase chain reaction, immunohistochemistry and Western blotting was performed to evaluate the CTGF expression and the results were statistically analyzed against the clinicopathological variables of patient data using STATA software version 16.RESULTS CTGF expression levels in tumor specimens were significantly higher than their paired normal specimens. The higher protein expression levels showed a significant association with smoking, staging, tumor grade, invasion depth, necrosis of tumor tissue, and both lymphovascular and perineural invasion. As per the cox regression model and classification tree analysis,tumor-nodemetastasis stage and perineural invasion were important predictors for CTGF expression and prognosis of CRC patients.Survival analysis indicated that CTGF overexpression was associated with poorer overall and disease-free survival.CONCLUSION Expression of CTGF was increased in CRC and was linked with poor overall and disease-free survival of CRC patients. These findings support prior observations and thus CTGF may be a possible prognostic marker in CRC.Ishrat Parveiz Bhat Tahseen Bilal Rather Irfan Maqbool Gowhar Rashid Kulsum Akhtar Gulzar A Bhat Fazl Q Parray Besina Syed Ishrat Younas Khan Mohsin Kazi Muhammad D Hussain Mudassar Syed 2022World Journal of Gastroenterology2022,28,5:1
Digestive system involvement and clinical outcomes among COVID-19 patients:A retrospective cohort study from Qatar显示文摘BACKGROUND Coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)caused by the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 virus most commonly presents with respiratory symptoms. While gastrointestinal(GI)manifestations either at presentation or during hospitalization are also common, their impact on clinical outcomes is controversial. Some studies have described worse outcomes in COVID-19 patients with GI symptoms, while others have shown either no association or a protective effect. There is a need for consistent standards to describe GI symptoms in COVID-19 patients and to assess their effect on clinical outcomes, including mortality and disease severity.AIM To investigate the prevalence of GI symptoms in hospitalized COVID-19 patients and their correlation with disease severity and clinical outcomes.METHODS We retrospectively reviewed 601 consecutive adult COVID-19 patients requiring hospitalization between May 1-15,2020.GI symptoms were recorded at admission and during hospitalization.Demographic, clinical, laboratory, and treatment data were retrieved.Clinical outcomes included all-cause mortality, disease severity at presentation, need for intensive care unit(ICU)admission, development of acute respiratory distress syndrome, and need for mechanical ventilation.Multivariate logistic regression model was used to identify independent predictors of the adverse outcomes.RESULTS The prevalence of any GI symptom at admission was 27.1%and during hospitalization was 19.8%.The most common symptoms were nausea(98 patients),diarrhea(76 patients),vomiting(73 patients),and epigastric pain or discomfort(69 patients). There was no difference in the mortality between the two groups(6.21%vs 5.5%,P=0.7).Patients with GI symptoms were more likely to have severe disease at presentation(33.13%vs 22.5%,P<0.001)and prolonged hospital stay(15 d vs 14 d,P=0.04).There was no difference in other clinical outcomes, including ICU admission, development of acute respiratory distress syndrome,or need for mechanical ventilation.Drugs associated with the development of GI symptoms during hospitalization were ribavirin(diarrhea 26.37%P<0.001,anorexia 17.58%,P=0.02),hydroxychloroquine(vomiting 28.52%,P=0.009)and lopinavir/ritonavir(nausea 32.65%P=0.049,vomiting 31.47%P=0.004,and epigastric pain 12.65%P=0.048).In the multivariate regression analysis,age>65 years was associated with increased mortality risk[odds ratio(OR)7.53,confidence interval(CI):3.09-18.29,P<0.001],ICU admission(OR:1.79,CI:1.13-2.83,P=0.012),and need for mechanical ventilation(OR:1.89,CI:1.94-2.99,P=0.007).Hypertension was an independent risk factor for ICU admission(OR:1.82,CI:1.17-2.84,P=0.008)and need for mechanical ventilation(OR:1.66,CI:1.05-2.62,P=0.028).CONCLUSION Patients with GI symptoms are more likely to have severe disease at presentation;however, mortality and disease progression is not different between the two groups.Muhammad Umair Khan Kamran Mushtaq Deema Hussam Alsoub Phool Iqbal Fateen Ata Hammad Shabir Chaudhry Fatima Iqbal Girisha Balaraju Muna A Al Maslamani Betsy Varughese Rajvir Singh Khalid Al Ejji Saad Al Kaabi Yasser Medhat Kamel Adeel Ajwad Butt 2021World Journal of Gastroenterology2021,27,46:1

Fusion-Based Machine Learning Architecture for Heart Disease Prediction显示文摘The contemporary evolution in healthcare technologies plays a considerable and signicant role to improve medical services and save human lives.Heart disease or cardiovascular disease is the most fatal and complex disease which it is hardly to be detected through our naked eyes,as numerous people have been suffering from this disease globally.Heart attacks occur when the ranges of vital signs such as blood pressure, pulse rate, and body temperature exceed their normal values. The efcient diagnosis of heart diseases could play a substantial role in the eld of cardiology, while diagnostic time could be reduced. It has been a key challenge for researchers and medical experts to diagnose heart diseases accurately and timely. Therefore, machine learning-based techniques are used for the diagnosis with higher accuracy, using datasets compiled from former medical patients’reports. In recent years, numerous studies have been presented in the literature propose machine learning techniques for diagnosing heart diseases. However, the existing techniques have some limitations in terms of their accuracy. In this paper,a novel Support Vector Machine(SVM)based architecture for heart disease prediction, empowered with a fuzzy based decision level fusion,is presented. The SVMbased architecture has improved the accuracy signicantly as compared to existing solutions, where 96.23%accuracy has been achieved.Muhammad Waqas Nadeem Hock Guan Goh Muhammad Adnan Khan Muzammil Hussain Muhammad Faheem Mushtaq Vasaki a/p Ponnusamy 2021Computers, Materials & Continua2021,,5:0
On Hiding Secret Information in Medium Frequency DCT Components Using Least Significant Bits Steganography显示文摘This work presents a new method of data hiding in digital images,in discrete cosine transform domain. The proposed method uses the least significant bits of the medium frequency components of the cover image for hiding the secret information, while the low and high frequency coefficients are kept unaltered. The unaltered low frequency DCT coefficients preserves the quality of the smooth region of the cover image, while no changes in the high DCT coefficient preserve the quality of the edges. As the medium frequency components have less contribution towards energy and image details,so the modification of these coefficients for data hiding results in high quality stego images. The distortion due to the changes in the medium frequency coefficients is insignificant to be detected by the human visual system. The proposed methods demonstrated a hiding capacity of 43:11%with the stego image quality of a peak signal to the noise ration of 36:3 dB,which is significantly higher than the threshold of 30 dB for a stego image quality. The proposed technique is immune to steganalysis and has proved to be highly secured against both spatial and DCT domain steganalysis techniques.Sahib Khan M A Irfan Arslan Arif Syed Tahir Hussain Rizvi Asma Gul Muhammad Naeem Nasir Ahmad 2019Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences2019,,3:0
Burden of atrial fibrillation in patients with rheumatic diseases显示文摘BACKGROUND Studies have suggested that atrial fibrillation(AF)in patients with rheumatic diseases(RD)may be due to inflammation.determine morbidity and mortality associated with AF in hospitalized patients with RD.METHODS The National inpatient sample database from October 2015 to December 2017 was analyzed to identify hospitalized patients with RD with and without AF.A subgroup analysis was performed comparing outcomes of AF among different RD.RESULTS The prevalence of AF was 23.9%among all patients with RD(n=3949203).Among the RD subgroup, the prevalence of AF was highest in polymyalgia rheumatica(33.2%),gout(30.2%),and pseudogout(27.1%).After adjusting for comorbidities, the odds of having AF were increased with gout(1.25),vasculitis(1.19),polymyalgia rheumatica(1.15),dermatopolymyositis(1.14),psoriatic arthropathy(1.12),lupus(1.09),rheumatoid arthritis(1.05)and pseudogout(1.04).In contrast, enteropathic arthropathy(0.44),scleroderma(0.96),ankylosing spondylitis(0.96),and Sjorgen’s syndrome(0.94)had a decreased association of AF.The mortality, length of stay, and hospitalization costs were higher in patients with RD having AF vs without AF.Among the RD subgroup, the highest mortality was found with scleroderma(4.8%),followed by vasculitis(4%)and dermatopolymyositis(3.5%).CONCLUSION A highest association of AF was found with gout followed by vasculitis, and polymyalgia rheumatica when compared to other RD.Mortality was two-fold higher in patients with RD with AF.Muhammad Zubair Khan Kirtenkumar Patel Krunalkumar A Patel Rajkumar Doshi Vraj Shah Devina Adalja Zainulabedin Waqar Sona Franklin Neelesh Gupta Muhammad Hamdan Gul Shruti Jesani Steven Kutalek Vincent Figueredo 2021World Journal of Clinical Cases2021,9,14:0
Liver Ailment Prediction Using Random Forest Model显示文摘Today, liver disease,or any deterioration in one’s ability to survive,is extremely common all around the world.Previous research has indicated that liver disease is more frequent in younger people than in older ones. When the liver’s capability begins to deteriorate, life can be shortened to one or two days, and early prediction of such diseases is difficult.Using several machine learning(ML)approaches, researchers analyzed a variety of models for predicting liver disorders in their early stages. As a result, this research looks at using the Random Forest(RF)classifier to diagnose the liver disease early on.The dataset was picked from the University of California,Irvine repository.RF’s accomplishments are contrasted to those of Multi-Layer Perceptron(MLP),Average One Dependency Estimator(A1DE),Support Vector Machine(SVM),Credal Decision Tree(CDT),Composite Hypercube on Iterated Random Projection(CHIRP),K-nearest neighbor(KNN),Naïve Bayes(NB),J48-Decision Tree(J48),and Forest by Penalizing Attributes(Forest-PA).Some of the assessment measures used to evaluate each classifier include Root Relative Squared Error(RRSE),Root Mean Squared Error(RMSE),accuracy, recall, precision, specificity,Matthew’s Correlation Coefficient(MCC),F-measure,and G-measure.RF has an RRSE performance of 87.6766 and an RMSE performance of 0.4328,however,its percentage accuracy is 72.1739.The widely acknowledged result of this work can be used as a starting point for subsequent research. As a result, every claim that a new model, framework,or method enhances forecastingmay be benchmarked and demonstrated.Fazal Muhammad Bilal Khan Rashid Naseem Abdullah A Asiri Hassan A Alshamrani Khalaf A Alshamrani Samar M Alqhtani Muhammad Irfan Khlood M Mehdar Hanan Talal Halawani 2023Computers, Materials & Continua2023,,1:0
Laboratory Observations Regarding Different Instars of Cyclosainsulana(Costa, 1834)(Araneidae ) During Developmental Stages显示文摘The current experiment was conducted to find out the optimal conditions for mass rearing and developmental changes of Cyclosainsulana. The lab. conditions were maintained at(27±2)℃ and(65±5)% RH. The clear perplex cages and natural diet consisting of the aphids, larvae of the house fly and larvae of drosophila were used for rearing. C. insulana took(123.12±7.26) days to develop from eggs to adults passing through eight instars under prevailing vivo conditions. The eggs were greenish white in color with average size of 0.57 mm ±0.034. The eggs spent(7.52±1.64) days in emergence. Maximum number of spiderlings survived at the 5th instar(84%) and minimum at the 1st instar(34%). The measurements of different body parts including the total body length, cephalothorax and pedipalps of the both male and female C. insulana were done with the help of micrometer and presented as mean±SD. The measurements varied in the each developing instar. It was concluded that spiders were difficult to rear in the lab. conditions and each developing stage which was regarded as instars showed variations in size colors and body characteristics.Muhammad Saleem Khan Muhammad Saleem Asghar Iram Maqsood Mohsin Bukhari Lemeng Han Tang Li-jie Li Yi-jing Shahla A Khalil U R 2015Journal of Northeast Agricultural University(English Edition)2015,22,2:0
