Water Quality Index Using Modified Random Forest Technique: Assessing Novel Input Features显示文摘Water quality analysis is essential to understand the ecological status of aquatic life.Conventional water quality index(WQI)assessment methods are limited to features such as water acidic or basicity(pH),dissolved oxygen(DO),biological oxygen demand(BOD),chemical oxygen demand(COD),ammoniacal nitrogen(NH3-N),and suspended solids(SS).These features are often insufficient to represent the water quality of a heavy metal–polluted river. Therefore, this paper aims to explore and analyze novel input features in order to formulate an improved WQI.In this work, prospective insights on the feasibility of alternative water quality input variables as new discriminant features are discussed. The new discriminant features are a step toward formulating adaptive water quality parameters according to the land use activities surrounding the river. The results and analysis obtained from this study have proven the possibility of predicting WQI using new input features. This work analyzes 17 new input features, namely conductivity(COND),salinity(SAL),turbidity(TUR),dissolved solids(DS),nitrate(NO3),chloride(Cl),phosphate(PO4),arsenic(As),chromium(Cr),zinc(Zn),calcium(Ca),iron(Fe),potassium(K),magnesium(Mg),sodium(Na),E.coli,and total coliform,in predicting WQI using machine learning techniques.Five regression algorithms-random forest(RF),AdaBoost, support vector regression(SVR),decision tree regression(DTR),and multilayer perception(MLP)-are applied for preliminary model selection. The results show that the RF algorithm exhibits better prediction performance, with R2 of 0.974.Then,this work proposes a modified RF by incorporating the synthetic minority oversampling technique(SMOTE)into the conventional RF method. The proposed modified RF method is shown to achieve 77.68%,74%,69%,and 71%accuracy,precision,recall,and F1-score,respectively.In addition, the sensitivity analysis is included to highlight the importance of the turbidity variable in WQI prediction. The results of sensitivity analysis highlight the importance of certain water quality variables that are not present in the conventional WQI formulation. | Wen Yee Wong Ayman Khallel Ibrahim Al-Ani Khairunnisa Hasikin Anis Salwa Mohd Khairuddin Sarah Abdul Razak Hanee Farzana Hizaddin Mohd Istajib Mokhtar Muhammad Mokhzaini Azizan | 2022 | Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences2022,,9: | 2

In vivo hypoglycemic investigation, antihyperglycemic and antihyperlipidemic potentials of Pereskia bleo Kunth. in normal and streptozotocin-induced diabetic rats显示文摘Objective: To elucidate the in vivo hypoglycemic capability, antihyperglycemic and antihyperlipidemic activities of Pereskia bleo(Kunth) leaves extracts and bioactive fraction. Methods: The various solvent extracts of Pereskia bleo were investigated for the hypoglycemic and antihyperglycemic activities using a relevant in vivo normal rat model and streptozotocininduced diabetic rat model with glibenclamide and metformin utilized as positive controls. The effects of the most potent extract and its bioactive fraction on the insulin level, lipid profile and body weight of the diabetic rats were also analyzed. Results: All the extracts showed no hypoglycemic effect while petroleum ether, chloroform and aqueous extracts demonstrated significant(P<0.05) reduction in blood sugar level in the intraperitoneal glucose tolerance test. Aqueous extract and aqueous fraction significantly(P<0.05) reduced the blood glucose level in streptozotocin-induced diabetic rats as early as day 6 compared to the diabetic control as well as significantly restored the serum insulin of diabetic rats. Moreover, the aqueous extract and aqueous fraction disclosed a significant(P<0.05) reduction in total cholesterol, triglycerides, and low-density lipoprotein levels. An elevation in high-density lipoprotein as well as improved body weight loss of the diabetic rats were also observed. Conclusions: In summary, Pereskia bleo appears effective in the management of diabetes and correlated impairments arising from high blood sugar level. Further studies will possibly bring about the discovery of effective and secure plant derived antidiabetic drugs. | Anis Najwa Abdul Rani Roziahanim Mahmud Norliyana Amran Mohd Zaini Asmawi Nornisah Mohamed Shanmugapriya Perumal | 2019 | Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Biomedicine2019,9,2: | 1

A Stacked Ensemble Deep Learning Approach for Imbalanced Multi-Class Water Quality Index Prediction显示文摘A common difficulty in building prediction models with real-world environmental datasets is the skewed distribution of classes. There are significantly more samples for day-to-day classes, while rare events such as polluted classes are uncommon.Consequently, the limited availability of minority outcomes lowers the classifier’s overall reliability. This study assesses the capability of machine learning(ML)algorithms in tackling imbalanced water quality data based on the metrics of precision, recall, and F1 score. It intends to balance the misled accuracy towards the majority of data.Hence,10 ML algorithms of its performance are compared. The classifiers included are AdaBoost,SupportVector Machine,Linear Discriminant Analysis,k-Nearest Neighbors,Naive Bayes,Decision Trees,Random Forest,Extra Trees,Bagging, and the Multilayer Perceptron. This study also uses the Easy Ensemble Classifier,Balanced Bagging, andRUSBoost algorithm to evaluatemulti-class imbalanced learning methods. The comparison results revealed that a highaccuracy machine learning model is not always good in recall and sensitivity. This paper’s stacked ensemble deep learning(SE-DL)generalization model effectively classifies the water quality index(WQI)based on 23 input variables. The proposed algorithm achieved a remarkable average of 95.69%,94.96%,92.92%,and 93.88%for accuracy, precision, recall, and F1 score, respectively. In addition, the proposed model is compared against two state-of-the-art classifiers, the XGBoost(eXtreme Gradient Boosting)and Light Gradient Boosting Machine, where performance metrics of balanced accuracy and g-mean are included. The experimental setup concluded XGBoost with a higher balanced accuracy and G-mean.However,the SE-DL model has a better and more balanced performance in the F1 score. The SE-DL model aligns with the goal of this study to ensure the balance between accuracy and completeness for each water quality class. The proposed algorithm is also capable of higher efficiency at a lower computational time against using the standard SyntheticMinority Oversampling Technique(SMOTE)approach to imbalanced datasets. | Wen Yee Wong Khairunnisa Hasikin Anis Salwa Mohd Khairuddin Sarah Abdul Razak Hanee Farzana Hizaddin Mohd Istajib Mokhtar Muhammad Mokhzaini Azizan | 2023 | Computers, Materials & Continua2023,76,8: | 0
Effect of Sodium Metasilicate on Structural, Optical, Dielectric and Mechanical Properties of ADP Crystal显示文摘For the first time, sodium metasilicate(SMS) doped ammonium dihydrogen phosphate(ADP) crystal was grown by slow evaporation solution technique. The unit cell parameters of grown crystal were determined by means of single crystal X-ray diffraction technique. The qualitative analysis of SMS doped ADP crystal was carried out using energy dispersive X-ray and Fourier transform infrared analysis. The increase in optical transparency of doped ADP crystal was ascertained in the range of 200–900 nm using the UV-visible spectral analysis. The vital optical constants were evaluated using the transmittance data to explore various optical device applications of crystal. The assertive influence of SMS on mechanical and dielectric behavior of ADP crystal was investigated by means of Vickers microhardness analysis and dielectric studies, respectively. The enhancement in second harmonic generation(SHG) efficiency of SMS doped ADP crystal with reference to potassium dihydrogen phosphate(KDP) and ADP was confirmed from Kurtz–Perry SHG test. The Kerr lensing nonlinearity in SMS doped ADP crystal was identified by means of Z-scan analysis and the third order nonlinear optical susceptibility(χ~3) was found to be6.19×10^(-5)esu,which vitalizes its application for laser stabilization systems. | Mohd Anis M.D. Shirsat S.S. | 14 | Optimized Gated Recurrent Unit for Mid-Term Electricity Price Forecasting显示文摘Electricity price forecasting(EPF)is important for energy system operations and management which include strategic bidding, generation scheduling, optimum storage reserves scheduling and systems analysis. Moreover, accurate EPF is crucial for the purpose of bidding strategies and minimizing the risk for market participants in the competitive electricity market.Nevertheless, accurate time-series prediction of electricity price is very challenging due to complex nonlinearity in the trend of electricity price. This work proposes a mid-term forecasting model based on the demand and price data, renewable and non-renewable energy supplies, the seasonality and peak and off-peak hours of working and nonworking days.An optimized Gated Recurrent Unit(GRU)which incorporates Bagged Regression Tree(BTE)is developed in the Recurrent Neural Network(RNN)architecture for the mid-term EPF.Tanh layer is employed to optimize the hyperparameters of the heterogeneous GRU with the aim to improve the model’s performance, error reduction and predict the spikes. In this work, the proposed framework is assessed using electricity market data of five major economical states in Australia by using electricity market data from August 2020 to May 2021.The results showed significant improvement when adopting the proposed prediction framework compared to previous works in forecasting the electricity price. | Rashed Iqbal Hazlie Mokhlis Anis Salwa Mohd Khairuddin Syafiqah Ismail Munir Azam Muhammad | 2022 | Computer Systems Science & Engineering2022,43,11: | 0
Efficacy of multigrain supplementation in type 2 diabetes mellitus:A pilot study protocol for a randomized intervention trial显示文摘BACKGROUND Uncontrolled type 2 diabetes mellitus(T2DM)may lead to microvascular complications(nephropathy, retinopathy, and neuropathy)and cardiovascular diseases. The beta-glucan content in grains has the potential to improve insulin sensitivity, lowering postprandial glucose response and reducing inflammation degrees.A proper combination of grains not only satisfies human body’s need, but also provides essential and reasonable nutritional contents. However,no trial has been conducted to evaluate the roles of multigrain in T2DM.AIM To determine the efficacy of multigrain supplementation among T2DM patients.METHODS From October 2020 to June 2021,a total of 50 adults living with T2DM,who were receiving standard diabetes care at Day Care Clinic, were randomized into either a supplementation group or a control group. The supplementation group received twice daily 30 g multigrain supplement(equivalent to 3.4 g beta-glucan)with standard medication for 12 wk,while the control group was prescribed with standard medication.Parameters such as glycemic control(HbA1c,FPG,and HOMO-IR),cardiometabolic profile(lipid profile, renal function test, and liver function test),oxidative stress status, nutritional status, and quality of life(QoL)were assessed at two time points:Baseline and the end of the treatment period(week 12).RESULTS The primary outcomes were the mean difference of glycated haemoglobin(%),fasting plasma glucose, and serum insulin as intervention effects.Secondary outcomes included the measurement of cardiometabolic profile, antioxidative and oxidative stress status, nutritional status indices, and QoL.Tertiary outcomes involved the determination of safety and tolerability, and supplementation compliance.CONCLUSION The present clinical trial will reveal the effectiveness of multigrain supplementation among T2DM patients for the improvement of diabetes management. | Nur Anis Mohd Ariffin Mastura Mohd Sopian Lai Kuan Lee | 2023 | World Journal of Diabetes2023,14,5: | 0
Hepatic and renal effects of oral stingless bee honey in a streptozotocin-induced diabetic rat model显示文摘BACKGROUND Diabetes is known damage the liver and kidney, leading to hepatic dysfunction and kidney failure.Honey is believed to help in lowering the blood glucose levels of diabetic patients and reducing diabetic complications. However, the effect of stingless bee honey(SBH)administration in relieving liver and kidney damage in diabetes has not been well-studied.AIM To investigate the effect of SBH administration on the kidney and liver of streptozotocin-induced(STZ;55 mg/kg)diabetic Sprague Dawley rats.METHODS The rats were grouped as follows(n=6 per group):non-diabetic(ND),untreated diabetic(UNT),metformin-treated(MET),and SBH+metformin-treated(SBME)groups.After successful diabetic induction,ND and UNT rats were given normal saline, whereas the treatment groups received SBH(2.0 g/kg and/or metformin(250 mg/kg)for 12 d.Serum biochemical parameters and histological changes using hematoxylin and eosin(H&E)and periodic acid–Schiff(PAS)staining were evaluated.RESULTS On H&E and PAS staining, the ND group showed normal architecture and cellularity of Bowman’s capsule and tubules, whereas the UNT and MET groups had an increased glomerular cellularity and thickened basement membrane. The SBH-treated group showed a decrease in hydropic changes and mild cellularity of the glomerulus vs the ND group based on H&E staining, but the two were similar on PAS staining.Likewise, the SBME-treated group had an increase in cellularity of the glomerulus on H&E staining, but it was comparable to the SBH and ND groups on PAS staining.UNT diabetic rats had tubular hydropic tubules, which were smaller than other groups.Reduced fatty vacuole formation and dilated blood sinusoids in liver tissue were seen in the SBH group.Conversely, the UNT group had high glucose levels, which subsequently increased MDA levels, ultimately leading to liver damage.SBH treatment reduced this damage,as evidenced by having the lowest fasting glucose, serum alanine transaminase, aspartate transaminase, and alkaline phosphatase levels compared to other groups, although the levels of liver enzymes were not statistically significant.CONCLUSION The cellularity of the Bowman’s capsule,as well as histological alteration of kidney tubules, glomerular membranes, and liver tissues in diabetic rats after oral SBH resembled those of ND rats. Therefore,SBH exhibited a protective hepatorenal effect in a diabetic rat model. | Suriati Mohd Nasir Anis Farihan Ismail Tuan Salwani Tuan Ismail Wan Faiziah Wan Abdul Rahman Wan Amir Nizam Wan Ahmad Tengku Ahmad Damitri Al-Astani Tengku Din Kuttulebbai Nainamohammed Salam Sirajudeen | 2024 | World Journal of Experimental Medicine2024,14,1: | 0
Structural, vibrational, optical, photoluminescence, thermal, dielectric, and mechanical studies on zinc(tris) thiourea sulfate single crystal: A noticeable effect of organic dye显示文摘In this work, uranine-dyed zinc(tris) thiourea sulfate(ZTS) monocrystals, 26 mm×15 mm×10 mm in size, were synthesized by the solution method at ambient temperature. Their purity, crystallinity, lattice parameters, and functional modes were studied by x-ray diffraction, Fourier transform-infrared spectroscopy(FT-IR), and FT-Raman spectroscopy analyses. The sodium ion content of the crystals from the dye was confirmed by elemental analysis. The diffused reflectance spectral analysis of the dyed crystal revealed a characteristic absorption band at 490 nm attributed to the presence of the dye. The calculated band gaps of the non-dyed and dyed crystals were 4.53 and 4.57 e V, respectively. A green emission peak at ~(512 ± 4) nm was observed in the photoluminescence spectrum of the uranine-dyed crystals. A differential scanning calorimetry study confirmed that the thermal stability improved owing to the addition of the dye. Dielectric and microhardness studies were conducted to examine the significant improvements in the corresponding properties of dyed crystals. The results demonstrated the competency of the dyed ZTS crystals for applications in optoelectronic devices. | Mohd Shkir V Ganesh S AlFaify I S Yahia Mohd Anis | 2018 | Chinese Physics B2018,27,5: | 0

A Novel Krill Herd Based Random Forest Algorithm for Monitoring Patient Health显示文摘Artificial Intelligence(AI)is finding increasing application in healthcare monitoring.Machine learning systems are utilized for monitoring patient health through the use of IoT sensor, which keep track of the physiological state by way of various health data. Thus, early detection of any disease or derangement can aid doctors in saving patients’lives. However, there are some challenges associated with predicting health status using the common algorithms, such as time requirements, chances of errors, and improper classification. We propose an Artificial Krill Herd based on the Random Forest(AKHRF)technique for monitoring patients’health and eliciting an optimal prescription based on their health status. To begin with, various patient datasets were collected and trained into the system using IoT sensors. As a result, the framework developed includes four processes:preprocessing, feature extraction, classification, and result visibility.Additionally, preprocessing removes errors, noise, and missing values from the dataset, whereas feature extraction extracts the relevant information. Then,in the classification layer,we updated the fitness function of the krill herd to classify the patient’s health status and also generate a prescription. We found that the results fromthe proposed framework are comparable to the results from other state-of-the-art techniques in terms of sensitivity, specificity,Area under the Curve(AUC),accuracy, precision, recall, and F-measure. | Md.Moddassir Alam Md Mottahir Alam Muhammad Moinuddin Mohammad Tauheed Ahmad Jabir Hakami Anis Ahmad Chaudhary Asif Irshad Khan Tauheed Khan Mohd | 2023 | Computers, Materials & Continua2023,,5: | 0
