The necessity for integrating traditional, complementary, and alternative medicine into medical education curricula in Iran显示文摘Background: The use of traditional and complementary medicine (T&CM) is increasing in both developed and developing countries. The school of Persian medicine (PM) in Iran is a comprehensive medical school that is rich in history and has its own special principles, elements, philosophy, and diagnostic and treatment options. Many complementary therapy modalities are also popular and in demand among patients and physicians. The aim of this paper is to provide logic for the policymakers in Iranian medical education to make changes in medical education curricula, particularly on integrating T&CM. Methods: We reviewed the global experience in teaching T&CM to medical students, and highlighting the strengths of PM, described why it is necessary to integrate T&CM into general medicine curricula in Iran. Results: PM is a traditional system of medicine that dates back about 7000 years. Although there are few studies about the safety and effectiveness of PM, research into it has recently been accelerated. There is a suitable opportunity for integrating T&CM with conventional medicine. Physicians should be familiar with T&CM to avoid any contraindications, interactions, and unwanted effects. Conclusion: Traditional medicine is part of Iran's heritage and. thus, needs special attention. Familiarization of physicians with T&CM can help them choose the best treatment options for their patients. To integrate T&CM into the medical education curricula of Iran, a two-credit course has been proposed for implementation across the country. | Mohammad Hossein Ayati Ata Pourabbasi Nazli Namazi Arman Zargaran Zahra Kheiry Amir Hooman Kazemi Bagher Larijani | 2019 | Journal of Integrative Medicine2019,17,4: | 1

ASSESSMENT OF BED-LOAD PREDICTORS BASED ON SAMPLING IN A GRAVEL BED RIVER显示文摘Bedload transport in alluvial channels has been extensively studied and different equations based on field and/or experimental data have been proposed.Prediction of bed-load transport rate using different equations results in wide ranges which are not always reliable. In this study, some of the universal bedload predictors were evaluated with measured load by a Helley-Smith sampler in the Node River,a gravel bed river in the northeast part of Iran. From 19 sets of data,14 series of data were used to evaluate the bed-load transport equations. The results show that the equations presented by Van Rijn,Meyer-Peter and Mueller, and Ackers and White may adequately predict bedload transport in the range of field data. | HADDADCHI Arman OMID Mohammad H. | 10 | Electrodes based on nano-tree-like vanadium nitride and carbon nanotubes for micro-supercapacitors显示文摘Vanadium nitride(VN) was deposited by DC-sputtering on a vertically aligned carbon nanotube(CNTs)template for the purpose of nano-structuration. This led to the fabrication of hierarchically composite electrodes consisting of porous and nanostructured VN grown on vertically aligned CNTs in a nano-treelike configuration for micro-supercapacitor application. The electrodes show excellent performance with an areal capacitance as high as 37.5 m F cm^(-2) at a scan rate of 2 mV s^(-1) in a 0.5 MK_2SO_4 mild electrolyte solution. Furthermore, the capacitance decay was only 15% after 20,000 consecutive cycles. Moreover, the capacitance was found to increase with VN deposit thickness. The X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy analyses of the electrodes before and after cycling suggest that the oxide layers that form at the VN surface is the responsible for the redox energy storage in this material. Such electrodes can compete with other transition metal nitride based electrodes for micro-supercapacitors. | Nadir Ouldhamadouche Amine Achour Raul Lucio-Porto Mohammad Islam Shahram Solayman Ali Arman Azin Ahmadpourian Hamed Achour Laurent Le Bri-zoual Mohamed Abdou Djouadi Thierry Brousse | 2018 | Journal of Materials Science & Technology2018,34,6: | 1
Evaluation of suspended load transport rate using transport formulas and arti- ficial neural network models (Case study: Chelchay Catchment)显示文摘Accurate estimation of sediment load or transport rate is very important to a wide range of water resources projects. This study was undertaken to determine the most appropriate model to predict suspended load in the Chelchay Watershed, northeast of Iran. In total, 59 data series were collected from four gravel bed-rivers and a sand bed river and two depth integrating suspended load samplers to evaluate nine suspended load formulas and feed forward backpropagation Artificial Neural Network (ANN) structures. Although the Chang formula with higher correlation coefficient ( r = 0.69)and lower Root Mean Square Error (RMSE = 0.013) is the best suspended load predictor among the nine studied formulas, the ANN models significantly outperform traditional suspended load formulas and show their superior performance for all statistical parameters. Among different ANN structures two models including 4 inputs, 4 hidden and one output neurons, and 4 inputs, 4 and one hidden and one output neurons provide the best simulation with the RMSE values of 0.0009 and 0.001, respectively. | HADDADCHI Arman MOVAHEDI Neshat VAHIDI Elham OMID Mohammad Hossein DEHGHANI Amir Ahmad | 2013 | Journal of Hydrodynamics2013,25,3: | 1

Impact of random and scattered coincidences from outside of field of view on positron emission tomography/computed tomography imaging with different reconstruction protocols显示文摘Image quality in positron emission tomography(PET)is affected by random and scattered coincidences and reconstruction protocols. In this study,we investigated the effects of scattered and random coincidences from outside the field of view(FOV)on PET image quality for different reconstruction protocols.Imaging was performed on the Discovery 690 PET/CT scanner, using experimental configurations including the NEMA phantom(a body phantom, with six spheres of different sizes)with a signal background ratio of 4:1.The NEMA phantom(phantom I)was scanned separately in a one-bed position. To simulate the effect of random and scatter coincidences from outside the FOV,six cylindrical phantoms with various diameters were added to the NEMA phantom(phantom II).The 18 emission datasets with mean intervals of 15 min were acquired(3 min/scan).The emission data were reconstructed using different techniques. The image quality parameters were evaluated by both phantoms.Variations in the signal-to-noise ratio(SNR)in a 28-mm(10-mm)sphere of phantom II were 37.9%(86.5%)for ordered-subset expectation maximization(OSEM-only),36.8%(81.5%)for point spread function(PSF),32.7%(80.7%)for time of flight(TOF),and 31.5%(77.8%)for OSEM+PSF+TOF,respectively, indicating that OSEM+PSF+TOF reconstruction had the lowest noise levels and lowest coefficient of variation(COV)values.Random and scatter coincidences from outside the FOV induced lower SNR,lower contrast, and higher COV values, indicating image deterioration and significantly impacting smaller sphere sizes.Amongst reconstruction protocols,OSEM+PSF+TOF and OSEM+PSF showed higher contrast values for sphere sizes of 22,28,and 37 mm and higher contrast recovery coefficient values for smaller sphere sizes of 10 and 13 mm. | Mahak Osouli Alamdari Pardis Ghafarian Arman Rahmim Mehrdad Bakhshayesh‑Karam Mohammad Reza Ay | 2023 | Nuclear Science and Techniques2023,34,12: | 0
Effectiveness of revascularization of the ulcerated foot in diabetic patients with peripheral artery disease for one year follow-up显示文摘BACKGROUND:Diabetes is an important risk factor for atherosclerosis. The diabetic foot is characterized by the presence of arteriopathy and neuropathy. When ischemia is diagnosed, restoration of pulsatile blood flow by revascularization may be considered for salvaging the limb. The treatment options are angioplasty with or without stenting and surgical bypass or hybrid procedures combining the two. AIMS:To evaluate the outcomes of severe ischemic diabetic foot ulcers for which percutaneous transluminal angioplasty (PTA)was considered as the first-line vascular procedure.Factors associated with successful PTA were also evaluated. METHODS:In 80consecutive diabetic patients with foot ulcers and severe limb ischemia,PTA was performed if feasible. All patients were followed until healing or for one year.Clinical and angiographic factors in fluencing outcomes after PTA were sought by univariate and multivariate analysis. RESULTS:PTAwas done in 73of the 80(91.2%)patients,and considered clinically successful in 58(79.9%).Successful PTA was significantly higher in patients with Superficial femoral artery, posterior Tibialis and dorsalis pedis arteries involvement in the univariate analysis.Seven patients were expired during the study follow up due to MI,pulmonary thromboembolism and GI bleeding. CONCLUSION:PTA in diabetic patients with severe ischemic foot ulcers provided favorable. Some parameters could be used for predicting PTA successfulness. | Mohammad Momen Gharibvand Mina Mounesi Arman Shahriari Asghar Sharif Najafi Azim Motamed far Atefeh Roumi | 2018 | Frontiers in Biology2018,13,6: | 0
Performance analysis of a novel integrated photovoltaic-thermal system by top-surface forced circulation of water显示文摘Almost 80-90%of energy is wasted as heat(provides no value)in a photovoltaic(PV)panel. An integrated photovoltaic-thermal(PVT)system can utilize this energy and produce electricity simultaneously. In this research, through energy and exergy analysis,a novel design and methodology of a PVT system are studied and validated.Unlike the common methods, here the collector is located outside the PV panel and connected with pipes.Water passes over the top of the panel and then is forced to the collector by a pump. The effects of different water-mass flow rates on the PV panel and collector, individual and overall efficiency, mass loss, exergetic efficiency are examined experimentally. Results show that the overall efficiency of the system is around five times higher than the individual PV-panel efficiency. The forced circulation of water dropped the panel temperature and increased the panel efficiency by 0.8-1%and exergy by 0.6-1%,where the overall energy efficiency was~81%. | Md Arman Arefin Mohammad Towhidul Islam Mohammad Zunaed Khodadad Mostakim | 2020 | Clean Energy2020,4,4: | 0
静水和规则波顶浪中航行的半小水线面双体船的数值建模研究显示文摘A small waterplane area twin hull(SWATH)has excellent seakeeping performance and low wave-making resistance, and it has been applied to small working craft, pleasure boats, and unmanned surface vehicles. However, with the increase in speed, the hydrodynamic resistance of SWATH will increase exponentially because of its large wet surface, followed by the uncomfortable situation of the hull underwater part relative to the water level and in terms of high trim by stern and high sinkage.A way to improve this situation is to reduce the depth of the draft at high speeds to ensure that all or a part of the volume of the submerged bodies is above the water level.Based on this idea,a new type of semi-SWATH hull form was analyzed in this paper. The two submerged bodies of the SWATH have a catamaran boat shape. This paper employed Sie-mens PLM Star-CCM+to study the hydrodynamic performance of an advanced semi-SWATH model.Bare-hull resistance was estimated for both SWATH and CAT(CATAMARAN)modes in calm water. Moreover, the efect of fxed stabilizing fns with diferent angles on the vertical motions of the vessel in regular head waves was investigated with an overset mesh approach. The vertical motion responses were estimated at diferent wave encounter frequencies, and the present numerical method results have been verifed by already published experimental data. | Arman Zare Hassan Sayyadi Mohammad Hossein Karimi | 2021 | Journal of Marine Science and Application2021,20,4: | 0
Synthesis of WC powder through microwave heating of WO_3–C mixture显示文摘A simple, easy, and low-cost process for the fabrication of tungsten carbide(WC) powder through microwave heating of WO_3–C mixtures was developed. Thermodynamic calculations and experimental investigations were carried out for WO_3–C and W–C systems, and a formation mechanism was proposed. In the results, for the synthesis of WC,the use of over stoichiometric amount of C together with a specially assembled experimental setup(which effectively retains heat in the system) is necessary. The WC powder is successfully obtained by heating WO_3:5C mixture for 900 s in a domestic microwave oven. | Amir Karimzadeh Behnami Arman Hoseinpur Masoud Sakaki Mohammad Sh. | 18 | Curculigo recurvata W.T.Aiton exhibits anti-nociceptive and anti-diarrheal effects in Albino mice and an in silico model显示文摘Background: Curculigo recurvata(C. recurvata) is an enthnomedicinally important herb reported to have significant medicinal values. The present study aimed to explore the in vivo and in silico anti-nociceptive and anti-diarrheal effects of a C. recurvate rhizome methanol extract(Me-RCR).Methods: The analgesic effects of Me-RCR were assessed using acetic acid-induced writhing and the formalin-induced flicking test. The drugs were administered intraperitoneally(IP) at doses of 200 and 400 mg/kg body weight(bw). Anti-diarrheal activity was evaluated by assessing intestinal motility, hypersecretion, and fecal score in mice at oral doses of 200 and 400 mg/kg·bw. Computer facilitated analyses for anti-nociceptive and anti-diarrheal activities of three isolated compounds from C. recurvata were undertaken to identify the best-fit phytoconstituents. Results: The Me-RCR showed significant(P <.05) peripheral anti-nociception at the highest dose. The extract inhibited both early and late phases of nociception in the formalin-induced writhing test. In the castor oil-induced diarrhoea model, the extract significantly(P <.05) prolonged the onset time of diarrhoea, inhibited percentage of diarrhoea, and decreased both the volume and weight of intestinal contents. Rates of intestinal fluid accumulation inhibition were(33.61 ± 1.00)% and(46.44 ± 0.89)% at Me-RCR doses of 200 and 400 mg/kg·bw, respectively. Moreover, a significant(P <.05) reduction in gastrointestinal motility was observed. An absorption, distribution, metabolism, excretion and/or toxicity(ADME/T) test showed that the selected compounds yielded promising results, satisfying Lipinski's rule of five for predicting drug-like potential. Notably, of the three phytoconstituents curculigine and isocurculigine possessed the highest affinity for the COX-1 and COX-2. Isocurculigine was also identified as the most effective anti-diarrheal compound in the computer-facilitated model. Conclusion: An extract of the plant C. recurvata showed potential analgesic and antidiarrheal activity due to the presence of one or more active secondary metabolite(s). | Shabbir Ahmad Mst.Samima Nasrin A.S.M.Ali Reza Nishan Chakrabarty Md.Akramul Hoque Sanjida Islam Mohammad Shah Hafez Kabir Syed Mohammed Tareq A.H.M.Khurshid Alam Md.Areeful Haque Md.Saiful Islam Arman | 2020 | Animal Models and Experimental Medicine2020,3,2: | 0
Periconceptional care and offspring health at birth and long term, from the perspective of Avicenna显示文摘Periconceptional care such as lifestyle plays an important impact role in offspring health. The aim of the present study was to clarify the perspective of Avicenna on periconceptional care. Avicenna(980–1037 A.D.) was one of the outstanding Persian physicians, who made great contributions to the field of medical sciences, in particular, obstetrics. In advance, Avicenna's book, Canon of Medicine, was considered to find his perspectives on periconceptional care. Then, his ideas and theories were compared to the current findings by searching the keywords in main indexing systems including PubMed/MEDLINE,Scopus and Institute for Scientific Information Web of Science as well as the search engine of Google Scholar. Current investigations show that gamete quality, pregnancy outcome, and offspring health at birth and long term depend on both parents' lifestyle in pre-and periconceptional period, as well as the intrauterine environment. Avicenna believed that seminal fluid, sperm, ovum, and developing conditions in utero were influenced by the stages of food digestion and the function of some organs. On the other hand, food digestion and function of the organs also depend on each parent's lifestyle and environmental factors. He mentioned 6 principles of healthy lifestyle: exercise, nutrition, sleep and awareness, excretion of body wastes and retention of necessary materials, psychic features, as well as air and climate. Thus, a multicomponent healthy lifestyle should be considered by parents of child-bearing age in an appropriate period before and in early pregnancy as well as elimination of any disorders in parents, to give birth to more healthy offspring. | Mohammad Ansaripour Mohsen Naseri Mohammad Mahdi Esfahani Iraj Nabipour Fatemeh Rakhshani Arman Zargaran Roya Kelishadi | 2019 | Journal of Integrative Medicine2019,17,2: | 0
