Interleukin-6-174G/C polymorphism is associated with a decreased risk of type 2 diabetes in patients with chronic hepatitis C virus显示文摘BACKGROUND Chronic hepatitis C(CHC)is associated with type 2 diabetes mellitus.Although the pathogenesis remains to be elucidated,a growing evidence has suggested a role of pro-inflammatory immune response.Increased serum concentrations of Interleukin 6(IL-6)have been associated with insulin resistance, type 2 diabetes mellitus as well as advanced forms of liver disease in chronic hepatitis C infection.AIM To investigate the frequency of IL-6-174G/C(rs1800795)single nucleotide polymorphism(SNP)in CHC patients and in healthy subjects of the same ethnicity.Associations between type 2 diabetes mellitus(dependent variable)and demographic, clinical, nutritional, virological and,IL-6 genotyping data were also investigated in CHC patients.METHODS Two hundred and forty-five patients with CHC and 179 healthy control subjects(blood donors)were prospectively included.Type 2 diabetes mellitus was diagnosed according to the criteria of the American Diabetes Association.Clinical, biochemical, histological and radiological methods were used for the diagnosis of the liver disease.IL-6 polymorphism was evaluated by Taqman SNP genotyping assay. The data were analysed by logistic regression models.RESULTS Type 2 diabetes mellitus, blood hypertension and liver cirrhosis were observed in 20.8%(51/245),40.0%(98/245)and 38.4%(94/245)of the patients, respectively. The frequency of the studied IL-6 SNP did not differ between the CHC patients and controls(P=0.81)and all alleles were in Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium(P=0.38).In the multivariate analysis, type 2 diabetes mellitus was inversely associated with GC and CC genotypes of IL-6-174(OR=0.42;95%CI=0.22-0.78;P=0.006)and positively associated with blood hypertension(OR=5.56;95%CI=2.79-11.09;P<0.001).CONCLUSION This study was the first to show that GC and CC genotypes of IL-6-174 SNP are associated with a decreased risk of type 2 diabetes mellitus in patients chronically infected with hepatitis C virus. The identification of potential inflammatory mediators involved in the crosstalk between hepatitis C virus and the axis pancreas-liver remains important issues that deserve further investigations. | Cliviany Borges da Silva Diego Alves Vieira Luisa Freitas de Melo Anna Luiza Soares Chagas Adriana Dias Gomes César Lúcio Lopes de Faria Jr Rosangela Teixeira Dulciene Maria de Magalh?es Queiroz Gifone Aguiar Rocha Maria Marta Sarquis Soares Juliana Maria Trindade Bezerra Luciana Diniz Silva | 2020 | World Journal of Hepatology2020,12,4: | 2

Non-Polar Chemical Constituents of Atemoya and Evaluation of the Cytotoxic and Antimicrobial Activity显示文摘This study aimed to identify the chemical composition of essential oil from fruits(EOAF)and the hexanic crude extract from aerial parts(At-Hex)of atemoya(Annona cherimola x Annona squamosa),a hybrid belonging to the Annonaceae family.Cytotoxic and antimicrobial activity was also evaluated.OEAF was obtained by hydrodistillation using a Clevenger apparatus, and their composition was analyzed by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry(GC-MS)analyses.Cytotoxicity was tested against human tumor cell lines HCT-116(colon carcinoma),SF-295(glioblastoma),OVCAR-8(ovarian carcinoma)and HL60(leukemia)using 3-(4,5-dimethyl-2-thiazolyl)-2,5-diphenyl-2H-tetrazolium bromide(MTT)assay, while antimicrobial activity was conducted by bioauthography method against eleven microorganisms strains.Twenty-four compounds were identified in the EOAF and twenty-nine in At-Hex.The monoterpenes linalool(25.70%),α-pinene(10.38%),β-pinene(9.12%),transocimene(7.43%),and the sesquiterpene bicyclogermacrene(12.58%)were the major constituents of EOAF,whereas the sesquiterpene spathulenol(13.91%)was the main compound of At-Hex.At-Hex showed a high cytotoxicity against SF-295(glioblastoma).These findings show an important chemotaxonomic contribution for the Annonaceae family, mainly for the Annona genus.Atemoya proved to be a promising source of substances with potential cytotoxic activity. | Suzana Vieira Rabêlo Fernanda Granja da Silva Oliveira Michele Miriam Calixto de Lira Livia Macedo Dutra Adilson Sartoratto Marta Cristina Teixeira Duarte Maria Claudia dos Santos Luciano Maria Francilene Souza Silva Cláudia doÓPessoa Manoel Odorico de Moraes Filho Emmanoel Vilaça Costa Jackson Roberto Guedes da Silva Almeida | 2021 | Phyton-International Journal of Experimental Botany2021,90,3: | 0
Distribution and Prevalence of Serotypes of Group B Streptococcus Isolated from Pregnant Women in 30 Countries:A Systematic Review显示文摘Objective:This review aimed to compile scientific data on the distribution and prevalence of group BStreptococcus (GBS) serotypes isolated from pregnant women across 30 countries from 2010 to 2019.Methods:This was a systematic review that addresses the distribution and prevalence of GBS in pregnant women. The search included studies published between January 2010 and December 2019 in PubMed,Virtual Health Library (BVS),ScienceDirect,Scientific Electronic Library Online (SciELO),and LILACS databases. We also surveyed relevant articles published in English,Spanish, and Portuguese between February and April 2020.Original articles, communication, short report, theses, and dissertations were included. The prevalence of GBS colonization, method for capsular serotyping, antimicrobial resistance, distribution and prevalence of serotypes were extracted from each study. Results:In all,795 publications were identified. After applying the eligibility criteria,48 articles were included for the final systematic analysis;most articles were from Asia and were published during the years 2014 to 2017.For the identification of serotypes, most studies used the polymerase chain reaction technique. There were records of all 10 GBS serotypes, namely,Ia,Ib,and II–IX,among the countries analyzed.GBS susceptibility and resistance to antibiotics were addressed in 37.5% of the publications analysed. Conclusion:This review showed that GBS serotypes are distributed differently in the 30 analyzed countries, with serotypes Ia,Ib,and II to V being the most prevalent.Furthermore, our results highlighted the relationship of GBS with maternal colonization, implications for neonates, and antibiotic resistance. | Marta Maria Silva Érica Alcântara Silva Caline Novais Teixeira Oliveira Maria Luísa Cordeiro Santos Cláudio Lima Souza Fabrício Freire de Melo Márcio Vasconcelos Oliveira | 2023 | Maternal-Fetal Medicine2023,5,2: | 0
Sarcopenia in chronic viral hepatitis:From concept to clinical relevance显示文摘Although the frequency of metabolic risk factors for cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC)is increasing, chronic hepatitis B(CHB)and chronic hepatitis C(CHC)remain the most relevant risk factors for advanced liver disease worldwide. In addition to liver damage, hepatitis B virus(HBV)and hepatitis C virus(HCV)infections are associated with a myriad of extrahepatic manifestations including mixed cryoglobulinaemia, lymphoproliferative disorders, renal disease, insulin resistance, type 2 diabetes, sicca syndrome, rheumatoid arthritislike polyarthritis, and autoantibody production.Recently, the list has grown to include sarcopenia.Loss of muscle mass or muscle function is a critical feature of malnutrition in cirrhotic patients and has been found in approximately 23.0%-60.0%of patients with advanced liver disease.Nonetheless, among published studies, there is significant heterogeneity in the aetiologies of hepatic diseases and measurement methods used to determine sarcopenia. In particular, the interaction between sarcopenia,CHB and CHC has not been completely clarified in a real-world setting.Sarcopenia can result from a complex and multifaceted virus-host-environment interplay in individuals chronically infected with HBV or HCV.Thus,in the present review,we provide an overview of the concept, prevalence, clinical relevance, and potential mechanisms of sarcopenia in patients with chronic viral hepatitis, with an emphasis on clinical outcomes, which have been associated with skeletal muscle loss in these patients.A comprehensive overview of sarcopenia in individuals chronically infected with HBV or HCV,independent of the stage of the liver disease, will reinforce the necessity of an integrated medical/nutritional/physical education approach in the daily clinical care of patients with CHB and CHC. | Marta Paula Pereira Coelho Pedro Alves Soares Vaz de Castro Thaís Pontello de Vries Enrico Antônio Colosimo Juliana Maria Trindade Bezerra Gifone Aguiar Rocha Luciana Diniz Silva | 2023 | World Journal of Hepatology2023,15,5: | 0
Metabolic-associated fatty liver disease is associated with low muscle mass and strength in patients with chronic hepatitis B显示文摘BACKGROUND Although the prognostic relevance of sarcopenia has been increasingly recognised in the context of liver disease, there is a paucity of data evaluating body composition in patients with chronic hepatitis B(CHB).Beyond virus-related factors, nutritional and metabolic aspects can be associated with skeletal muscle abnormalities in these patients and should not be disregarded.AIM To evaluate the association between components of sarcopenia and demographic, clinical, lifestyle, nutritional, and biochemical variables in CHB patients.METHODS Dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry(DXA)was used to assess muscle mass by quantifying appendicular lean mass(ALM)adjusted for body mass index(ALMBMI).Muscle function was evaluated by hand grip strength(HGS)and the timed up and go test.Metabolic-associated fatty liver disease(MAFLD)was defined according to the criteria proposed by an international expert panel.A body shape index and the International Physical Activity Questionnaire were used to assess central obesity and physical activity level, respectively.RESULTS This cross-sectional study included 105 CHB outpatients followed at the tertiary care ambulatory centre(mean age,48.5±12.0 years;58.1%males;76.2%without cirrhosis;23.8%with compensated cirrhosis). The DXA-derived fat mass percentage was inversely correlated with the ALMBMI(r=-0.87)and HGS(r=-0.63).In the multivariable analysis,MAFLD,sedentarism and central obesity were positively and independently associated with low ALMBMI.MAFLD and central obesity were independently associated with low HGS.CONCLUSION MAFLD and central obesity were associated with low muscle mass and strength in patients with chronic hepatitis B,independent of the liver disease stage. | Cecy Maria de Lima Santos Matheus Duarte Brito Pedro Alves Soares Vaz de Castro Thais Pontello de Vries Nataly Lopes Viana Marta Paula Pereira Coelho Olívio Brito Malheiro Tatiana Bering Maria Cristina Gonzalez Rosangela Teixeira Rodrigo Dias Cambraia Gifone Aguiar Rocha Luciana Diniz Silva | 2022 | World Journal of Hepatology2022,14,8: | 0
