| 1 | Application of Trichoderma harzianum (T22) and Trichoderma atroviride (P1) as plant growth promoters, and their compatibility with copper oxychloride显示文摘Trichoderma strains are used in agriculture because they provide to the plants the following benefits: i) are rhizosphere competence and establish stable rhizosphere microbial communities; ii) control plant disease caused by pathogenic and competitive microflora, by using a variety of mechanisms; iii) improve vegetative growth, root development and yield; iv) make nutrients more available to the plant. In this work we have investigated the ability of T. harzianum T22 and T. atroviride P1 to improve plant growth of locally important horticultural crops: lettuce, tomatoes and peppers and to prevent disease in the greenhouse and field. The effect of the Trichoderma treatment was evaluated by determining the weight of fresh and dry roots and above ground plant biomass, measuring plants height, counting the number of emerged leaves (lettuce, tomatoes and peppers) and quantifying production (tomatoes and peppers). No disease symptoms were found during production, although Fusarium sp. strains pathogenic to tomato were detected in the soil. Compounds containing copper oxychloride are frequently used for fungal disease control in agriculture. In order to investigate the compatibility of T. harzianum T22 and T. atroviride P1 with copper oxychloride applications, the effect on mycelia growth was monitored in both liquid and solid medium. | 3 | Immunohistochemical evaluation of vitamin D receptor(VDR) expression in cutaneous melanoma tissues and four VDR gene polymorphisms显示文摘Objective:Vitamin D receptor(VDR)mediates vitamin D activity.We examined whether VDR expression in excised melanoma tissues is associated with VDR gene(VDR)polymorphisms.Methods:We evaluated VDR protein expression(by monoclonal antibody immunostaining),melanoma characteristics,and carriage of VDR-Fok I-rs2228570(C>T),VDR-Bsm I-rs1544410(G>A),VDR-ApaI-rs7975232(T>G),and VDR-TaqI-rs731236(T>C)polymorphisms(by restriction fragment length polymorphism).Absence or presence of restriction site was denoted by a capital or lower letter,respectively:'F'and'f'for Fok I,'B'and'b'for Bsm I,'A'and'a'for ApaI,and 'T'and't'for TaqI endonuclease.Seventy-four Italian cutaneous primary melanomas(52.1±12.7 years old)were studied;51.4% were stage Ⅰ,21.6% stage Ⅱ ,13.5% stage Ⅲ,and 13.5% stage Ⅳ melanomas.VDR expression was categorized as follows:100% positive vs.<100%;over the median 20%(high VDR expression)vs.≤20%(low VDR expression);absence vs.presence of VDR-expressing cells.Results:Stage I melanomas,Breslow thickness of<1.00 mm,level II Clark invasion,Aa heterozygous genotype,and AaTT combined genotype were more frequent in melanomas with high vs.low VDR expression.Combined genotypes BbAA,bbAa,AATt,BbAATt,and bbAaTT were more frequent in 100%vs.<100%VDR-expressing cells.Combined genotype AATT was more frequent in melanomas lacking VDR expression(odds ratio=14.5;P=0.025).VDR expression was not associated with metastasis,ulceration,mitosis>1,regression,tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes,tumoral infiltration of vascular tissues,additional skin and non-skin cancers,and melanoma familiarity.Conclusions:We highlighted that VDR polymorphisms can affect VDR expression in excised melanoma cells.Low VDR expression in AATT carriers is a new finding that merits further study.VDR expression possibly poses implications for vitamin D supplementation against melanoma.VDR expression and VDR genotype may become precise medicinal tools for melanoma in the future. | Francesco La Marra Giuseppe Stinco Cinzia Buligan Giovanni Chiriacò Diego Serraino Carla Di Loreto Sabina Cauci | 2017 | Cancer Biology & Medicine2017，14，2： | 5 |

In recent years, the research on stem cells has expanded enormously and holds therapeutic promises for many patients suffering from currently disabling diseases. | 19 | Predictors of survival in patients with established cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma treated with sorafenib显示文摘AIM:To investigate in greater detail the efficacy and safety of sorafenib for the treatment of hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC)in patients with established cirrhosis.METHODS:From October 2009 to July 2012 patients with an established diagnosis of cirrhosis and HCC treated with sorafenib were consecutively enrolled.According to the Barcelona Clinic Liver Cancer(BCLC)classification,patients were in the advanced stage(BCLC-C)or in the intermediate stage(BCLC-B)but unfit or unresponsive to other therapeutic strategies.Treatment was evaluated performing a 4-phase computed tomography or magnetic resonance imaging scan every 2-3 mo,and analyzed according to the modified Response Evaluation Criteria in Solid Tumors.Sorafenib was administered at 800 mg/d,until radiological progression or occurrence of unacceptable adverse events(AEs).Univariate and multivariate analyses identified predictors of 16-wk clinical benefit and overall survival.RESULTS:Forty-four patients were enrolled,15 had intermediate HCC and 14 a Child-Pugh score of B7.AEs caused treatment interruption in 19 patients(43%),and median treatment duration was shorter in this subset(5 wk vs 19 wk,P<0.001)and in the BCLC-C subgroup(13 wk vs 40 wk,P=0.015).No significant differences in the reason for treatment interruption or in treatment duration were found comparing patients in Child-Pugh class A vs B or in patients older or younger than 70 years.After 16 wk of treatment,18 patients(41%)had stable disease or partial response.Patients with viral infection or BCLC-C were at higher risk of disease progression.ECOG,extrahepatic spread,macrovascular invasion,alpha-fetoprotein or alkaline phosphatase levels at admission were independent predictors of overall survival.CONCLUSION:In patients with cirrhosis and HCC treated with sorafenib,AEs are a common cause of early treatment withdrawal.Vascular invasion and extrahepatic spread condition early response to treatment and survival.Baseline biochemical parameters may be helpful to identify patients at higher risk of shorter overall survival. | Andrea L Inghilesi Donatella Gallori Lorenzo Antonuzzo Paolo Forte Daniela Tomcikova Umberto Arena Stefano Colagrande Silvia Pradella Bernardo Fani Elena Gianni Luca Boni Giacomo Laffi Francesco Di Costanzo Fabio Marra | 2014 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2014，20，3： | 1 |
