1Metastatic pattern in esophageal and gastric cancer:Influenced by site and histology显示文摘BACKGROUND Detailed information on metastatic patterns in of patients with esophageal and gastric cancer is limited.Early recognition of metastases is important to avoid futile locoregional treatments.Furthermore,knowledge on metastatic patterns is necessary for further development of personalized treatment modalities.AIM To gain insight into the metastatic pattern of gastroesophageal cancer.METHODS A nationwide retrospective autopsy study of 3876 patients with adenocarcinoma(AC)or squamous cell carcinoma(SCC)of the esophagus or stomach between 1990 and 2017 was performed.Only patient with metastases were included for analysis.The metastatic pattern was analyzed according to the primary tumor location and histological subtype.RESULTS Metastatic disease was found in 268 esophageal and 331 gastric cancer patients.In esophageal cancer,the most common metastatic locations were liver(56%),distant lymph nodes(53%)and lung(50%).Esophageal AC showed more frequently metastases to the peritoneum and bone compared with esophageal SCC.In gastric cancer,the most common metastatic locations were distant lymph nodes(56%),liver(53%)and peritoneum(51%).Intestinal-type AC of the stomach showed metastases to the liver more frequently,whereas metastases to the bone,female reproductive organs and colorectum were observed more frequently in diffuse-type gastric AC.CONCLUSION This study showed differences in metastatic patterns of patients with esophageal and gastric cancer according to the primary tumor location and histological subtype.Moniek HP Verstegen Mitchell Harker Carlijn van de Water Jolanda van Dieren Niek Hugen Iris D Nagtegaal Camiel Rosman Rachel S van der Post 2020World Journal of Gastroenterology2020,26,39:9
2Fibroadhesive scarring of grafted collagen scaffolds interferes with implant–host neural tissue integration and bridging in experimental spinal cord injury显示文摘Severe traumatic spinal cord injury(SCI)results in a devastating and permanent loss of function,and is currently an incurable condition.It is generally accepted that future intervention strategies will require combinational approaches,including bioengineered scaffolds,to support axon growth across tissue scarring and cystic cavitation.Previously,we demonstrated that implantation of a microporous type-I collagen scaffold into an experimental model of SCI was capable of supporting functional recovery in the absence of extensive implant–host neural tissue integration.Here,we demonstrate the reactive host cellular responses that may be detrimental to neural tissue integration after implantation of collagen scaffolds into unilateral resection injuries of the adult rat spinal cord.Immunohistochemistry demonstrated scattered fibroblast-like cell infiltration throughout the scaffolds as well as the presence of variable layers of densely packed cells,the fine processes of which extended along the graft–host interface.Few reactive astroglial or regenerating axonal profiles could be seen traversing this layer.Such encapsulation-type behaviour around bioengineered scaffolds impedes the integration of host neural tissues and reduces the intended bridging role of the implant.Characterization of the cellular and molecular mechanisms underpinning this behaviour will be pivotal in the future design of collagen-based bridging scaffolds intended for regenerative medicine.Haktan Altinova Sebastian Hammes Moniek Palm Jose Gerardo-Nava Pascal Achenbach Ronald Deumens Emmanuel Hermans Tobias Fuhrmann Arne Boecker Sabien Geraldine Antonia van Neerven Ahmet Bozkurt Joachim Weis Gary Anthony Brook 2019Regenerative Biomaterials2019,6,2:4
