| 3 | Sensitive and fast response ethanol chemical sensor based on as-grown Gd_2O_3 nanostructures显示文摘Well crystalline gadolinium oxide(Gd2O3) nanostructures were grown by annealing the hydrothermally as-prepared nanostructures without using any template. Microscopic studies of Gd2O3 nanostructures were recorded along the [111] direction due to the clearly resolved interplanar distance d(222)~0.31 nm of the cubic crystal structure Gd2O3. Sensing mechanism of Gd2O3 as efficient electron mediator for the detection of ethanol was explored. As-fabricated sensor demonstrated the high-sensitivity of ~0.266 μAm/M/cm2 with low detection limit(~52.2 μmol/L) and correlation coefficient(r2, 0.618). To the best of our knowledge, this was the first report for the detection of ethanol using as-grown(at 1000 oC) Gd2O3 nanostructures by simple and reliable I-V technique and rapid assessment of the reaction kinetics(in the order of seconds). | 6 | Reproductive cycle,sexual maturity and fecundity of Nemipterus furcosus(Valenciennes,1830)显示文摘Understanding the reproductive biology particularly sexual maturity,reproductive cycle and fecundity of fish is useful for fisheries management.Unfortunately,there is no information about reproductive biology of Nemipterus furcosus.This study addresses this deficit for N.furcosus.We conducted a 12-month study to understand the reproductive biology particularly the sex ratio,sexual maturity,fecundity and reproductive cycle of N.furcosus at the east coast of peninsular Malaysia.Results indicated that ratios of male and female were statistically similar up to 19.0 cm TL(total length).Male outnumbered female above 19.0 cm TL(P<0.05).The fecundity ranged between 54,970 and 236,938 with a mean fecundity of 102,477±43,580(standard deviation).Male and female fish reached first sexual maturation at almost same size,15.8 and 15.6 cm,respectively.This information is needed to determine the lowest acceptable harvest length of this fish under the management aim to enter all female fish for reproduction minimum one time in their life.We estimated the reproductive period of N.furcosus applying oocytes diameter,histological examination of ovaries and monthly mean GSI.All of these methods gave a consistent result about spawning season,which appeared to be from March to July with peaks in March and June.Based on this result,N.furcosus spawners can be protected during March to July for entering the reproductive stock.Apart from artificial breeding,the results of this study might facilitate future efforts at fine-tuning fishing effort for a proper management of N.furcosus. | Mustafizur M.Rahman Amira F.Samat | 2021 | Aquaculture and Fisheries2021,6,4: | 0 |
| 7 | Effects of multiple shapes for steady flow with transformer oil+Fe_(3)O_(4)+TiO_(2) between two stretchable rotating disks显示文摘In this study,we examine the effects of various shapes of nanoparticles in a steady flow of hybrid nanofluids between two stretchable rotating disks.The steady flow of hybrid nanofluids with transformer oil as the base fluid and Fe_(3)O_(4)+TiO_(2)as the hybrid nanofluid is considered.Several shapes of Fe_(3)O_(4)+TiO_(2)hybrid nanofluids,including sphere,brick,blade,cylinder,and platelet,are studied.Every shape exists in the same volume of a nanoparticle.The leading equations(partial differential equations(PDEs))are transformed to the nonlinear ordinary differential equations(ODEs)with the help of similarity transformations.The system of equations takes the form of ODEs depending on the boundary conditions,whose solutions are computed numerically by the bvp4c MATLAB solver.The outputs are compared with the previous findings,and an intriguing pattern is discovered,such that the tangential velocity is increased for the rotation parameter,while it is decreased by the stretching values because of the lower disk.For the reaction rate parameter,the concentration boundary layer becomes shorter,and the activation energy component increases the rate at which mass transfers come to the higher disk but have the opposite effect on the bottom disk.The ranges of various parameters taken into account are Pr=6.2,Re=2,M=1.0,φ_(1)=φ_(2)=0.03,K=0.5,S=-0.1,Br=0.3,Sc=2.0,α_(1)=0.2,γ=0.1,E_(n)=2.0,and q=1.0,and the rotation factor K is within the range of 0 to 1. | M.RAHMAN M.TURKYILMAZOGLU Z.MUSHTAQ | 2024 | Applied Mathematics and Mechanics(English Edition)2024,45,2: | 0 |
| 8 | Comparing the Effectiveness of Coatings on Carbide andCermet Cutting Tool Inserts显示文摘A series of metal cutting experiments was performed on a CNC lathe to evaluate the performance of various coatings on different tool substrates. The workpiece material was plain medium carbon steel and the cutting tool materials were carbide and cermet inserts coated with various single as well as multilayer coatings. Machining was done under various cutting conditions of speed and feed-rate, and for various durations of Cutting. The output parameters studied were the cutting forces (axial, radial and tangential), the surface roughness of the workpiece, as well as the tool wear (crater and flank wear). From these results, the performances of the various cutting inserts are evaluated and compared. Results show that cutting forces are significantly lower when using coated cermets than when using coated carbides although different coatings on the same substrate also result in different cutting forces. | 10 | Environmental variables affecting the gillnet catches and condition of Labiobarbus festivus and Osteochilus hasseltii in northern Malaysia显示文摘The influences of technical factors on the catching efficiencies of gillnets are well understood,but less is known about the importance of environmental factors and how these might concurrently affect target-species condition.Here we address this deficit for two economically important southeast Asian cyprinids(Labiobarbus festivus and Osteochilus hasseltii)during a one-year study at a key fishing location in Lake Kenyir,Malaysia.Three gillnets(each 200 m long,2 m deep and comprising either 38-,51-,or 76-mm mesh)were deployed each month concurrent with sampling of benthic macroinvertebrates and various environmental parameters.Various multivariate analyses(detrended correspondence analysis,redundancy analysis and permutational multivariate analysis of variance)were used to explore potential relationships between the extrinsic variables(mesh size,sampling season,water quality and,based on known prey items,benthic macroinvertebrates)and gillnet catches and the biological condition(growth co-efficient and hepatosomatic index)of the target species.Catches of L.festivus(the most abundant species)were positively influenced by water turbidity without seasonal effects,while their biological condition was positively influenced by benthic macroinvertebrates(mostly Trichoptera)and the concentrations of DO and phosphate,and negatively influenced by water temperature.By comparison,seasonal influences on the catches and biology of O.hasseltii were somewhat size specific with positive and negative effects of the monsoon on small and large fish,respectively.The abundance of phytoplankton also positively affected the catches of O.hasseltii,while their biological condition was positively influenced by water temperature,but negatively influenced by water turbidity.Such species-specific differences were attributed to life histories,and although the more abundant L.festivus might be best sought during any period of turbidity,effort should be focused during the monsoon when individuals have optimal condition(and therefore better flesh quality).In contrast,larger O.hasseltii might be best sought during non-monsoon months concurrent with greater catches and optimal condition.Collecting similar data for other freshwater species both nationally and internationally might facilitate future efforts at fine-tuning gillnet fishing effort. | Mustafizur M.Rahman Ahmad Fathi Matt K.Broadhurst | 2022 | Aquaculture and Fisheries2022,7,6: | 0 |
| 11 | Numerical simulation of temperature and relative humidity in zero energy cool chamber显示文摘Temperature and relative humidity are important parameters that can affect the storage of food in a zero energy cool chamber(ZECC).The distributions of average temperature and relative humidity are influenced by factors such as chamber size,water temperature,load weight and filler thickness.In this research,thermal environment analysis using numerical simulation of biological respiration was conducted for tomatoes stored in a ZECC.The ZECC was composed of inner and outer brick walls,filler(a mixture of sand and zeolite),water between the walls and a shading curtain.The results obtained from the numerical model were compared by setting different values for each factor.The following conclusions are drawn after comparison and analysis of results:(1)the distributions of average temperature and relative humidity are strongly related to the thickness of the filler–a thicker filler causes a lower temperature;(2)the water temperature in the filler exerts little influence on the average temperature and relative humidity;and(3)the lowest temperature and the highest relative humidity can be achieved with a chamber size of 0.6 m and a load weight of 30 kg.In addition,to validate the results of the numerical model,the simulation results are compared with experimental data,which show good agreement.It is confirmed that numerical simulation can be satisfactorily applied to predict the distribution of environmental parameters such as temperature and relative humidity in a cool chamber. | Liu Yanhua Lyu Enli Muhammad M.Rahman Wang Yu Guo Jiaming Zhang Jie | 2017 | International Journal of Agricultural and Biological Engineering2017,10,3: | 0 |
