1Radar Detection of Range Migrated Weak Target Through Long-Term Integration显示文摘A long-term integration method for weak target detection is proposed, which is based on Hough transformation. The method is able to integrate target return for a very long time period (even up to tens of seconds) by means of data fusion of multiple range resolution cells and can find the moving target in very low SNR environments where conventional detection techniques are inadequate. Also the 3D information of the target's Doppler frequency, distance and position can be derived. 3A numerical simulation study on mechanical behaviour of coal with bedding planes under coupled static and dynamic load显示文摘To investigate the bedding influence on coal mechanical behaviour in underground environments such as coal or rock burst, simulations of dynamic SHPB tests of pre-stressed coal specimens with different bedding angles were carried out using a particle flow code 2-dimensional(PFC2D). Three impact velocities of 4, 8 and 12 m/s were selected to study dynamic behaviours of coal containing bedding planes under different dynamic loads. The simulation results showed that the existence of bedding planes leads to the degradation of the mechanical properties and their weakening effect significantly depends on the angle h between the bedding planes and load direction. With h increaseing from 0° to 90°, the strength first decreased and subsequently increased and specimens became most vulnerable when h was 30° or 45°.Five failure modes were observed in the specimens in the context of macro-cracks. Furthermore, energy characteristics combined with ultimate failure patterns revealed that maximum accumulated energy and failure intensity have a positive relation with the strength of specimen. When bedding planes were parallel or perpendicular to loading direction, specimens absorbed more energy and experienced more violent failure with increased number of cracks. 4Total mercury in wild fish in Guizhou reservoirs, China显示文摘The health hazard of mercury (Hg) compounds is internationally recognized, and the main pathways for methylmercury (MeHg) intake in humans are through consumption of food, especially fish. Given the large releases of Hg to the environment in China, combined with the fast development of hydropower, this issue deserves attention. Provided similar mobilization pathways of Hg in China as seen in reservoirs in North America and Europe one should expect increased Hg contamination in relation to future hydropower reservoir construction in this country. This study presents total Hg (THg) concentrations in wild fish from six Guizhou reservoirs, China. The THg concentrations in fish were generally low despite high background levels in the bedrock and depositions from local point sources. The over all mean ± SD concentration of THg was (0.066 ± 0.078) μg/g (n = 235). After adjusting for among-reservoir variation in THg, there were significant differences in THg among functional groups of the fish, assumed to re?ect trophic levels. Predicted THg- concentration ratios, retrieved from a mixed linear model, between the functional groups were 9:4:4:1 for carnivorous, omnivorous, planktivorous and herbivorous fish. This result indicated that MeHg accumulation may prevail even under circumstances with short food chains as in this Chinese water system. No fish exceeded recommended maximum THg limit for human consumption set by World Health Organization and the Standardization Administration of China (0.5 μg/g fish wet weight (ww)). 5Effects of gravel mulch on aeolian transport:a field wind tunnel simulation显示文摘The shape,size and coverage of gravels have significant impacts on aeolian sand transport.This study provided an understanding of aeolian transport over the gravel mulching surfaces at different wind velocities by means of a mobile wind tunnel simulation.The tested gravel coverage increased from 5% to 80%,with a progressive increment of 5%.The gravels used in the experiments have three sizes in diameter.Wind velocities were measured using 10 sand-proof pitot-static probes,and mean velocity fields were obtained and discussed.The results showed that mean velocity fields obtained over different gravel mulches were similar.The analysis of wind speed patterns revealed an inherent link between gravel mulches and mean airflow characteristics on the gravel surfaces.The optimal gravel coverage is considered to be the critical level above or below which aeolian transport characteristics differ strongly.According to the present study,the optimal gravel coverage was found to be around 30% or 40%.Threshold velocity linearly increased with gravel coverage.Sand transport rate first increased with height above the wind tunnel floor(Hf),reaching a peak at some midpoint,and then decreased.KeCun ZHANG WeiMin ZHANG LiHai TAN ZhiShan AN Hao ZHANG 2015Journal of Arid Land2015,7,3:5
6The influence of atmospheric Hg on Hg contaminations in rice and paddy soil in the Xunyang Hg mining district,China显示文摘To date, the Xunyang mercury(Hg) mining district is the only ongoing large-scale Hg mining district in China. To understand the influence of Hg contamination mode from the Hg mining and smelting activities, 27 sampling sites in the Xunyang Hg mining district were chosen in this study. Total gaseous mercury(TGM) in ambient air was measured using a Lumex-RA915 automatic Hg analyzer in2011. Rice samples and soil samples from rhizosphere were collected systematically and simultaneously. Total Hg(THg) and methylmercury(Me Hg) concentrations in rice grain and soil samples and Hg speciation with modified sequential selective extractions were measured. The local environment was seriously polluted with Hg. The TGM(302 ± 376 ng·m-3, ranging from 24 to 2220 ng·m^(-3)) in the local ambient air, THg(28 ± 30 mg·kg^(-1), ranging from 0.31 to 121 mg·kg^(-1)) and Me Hg(2.3 ± 1.9 lg·kg^(-1),ranging from 0.24 to 8.9 lg·kg^(-1)) in soil samples were at the sample level with Hg contaminated area. The THg concentration(26 ± 16 lg·kg^(-1)ranging from 4.5 to 71 lg·kg^(-1)) in most of the rice grain samples clearly exceeds the threshold level(20 lg·kg^(-1)) in the Chinese national guidelines for cereals(NY 861-2004). The inorganic mercury(IHg)(9.1 ± 5.6 lg·kg^(-1), ranging from 1.2 to 24 lg·kg^(-1)) and Me Hg(14 ± 9.8 lg·kg^(-1), ranging from 2.1 to 59 lg·kg^(-1))concentration in rice grain samples were at the same level with Hg contaminated area. The main species of Hg in paddy soils reveal strong complex Hg and residue Hg. 7Chemical characterization and sources of PM2.5 at 12-h resolution in Guiyang, China显示文摘The increasing emission of primary and gaseous precursors of secondarily formed atmospheric particulate matter due to continuing industrial development and urbanization are leading to an increased public awareness of environmental issues and human health risks in China.As part of a pilot study, 12-h integrated fine fraction particulate matter(PM_(2.5) filter samples were collected to chemically characterize and investigate the sources of ambient particulate matter in Guiyang City, Guizhou Province, southwestern China. Results showed that the 12-h integrated PM_(2.5) concentrations exhibited a daytime average of 51 ± 22 lg m^(-3)(mean ± standard deviation) with a range of 17–128 lg m^(-3) and a nighttime average of55 ± 32 lg m~(^(-3)) with a range of 4–186 lg m^(-3). The 24-h integrated PM_(2.5) concentrations varied from 15 to157 lg m~(^(-3)), with a mean value of 53 ± 25 lg m^(-3), which exceeded the 24-h PM_(2.5) standard of 35 lg m^(-3) set by USEPA, but was below the standard of 75 lg m^(-3), set by China Ministry of Environmental Protection. Energy-dispersive X-ray fluorescence spectrometry(XRF) was applied to determine PM_(2.5) chemical element concentrations. The order of concentrations of heavy metals in PM_(2.5) were iron(Fe) [ zinc(Zn) [ manganese(Mn) [ lead(Pb) [ arsenic(As) [ chromium(Cr). The total concentration of 18 chemical elements was 13 ± 2 lg m^(-3),accounting for 25% in PM_(2.5), which is comparable to other major cities in China, but much higher than cities outside of China.Longchao Liang Na Liu Matthew S. 8A novel method of dynamic characteristics analysis of machine tool based on unit structure显示文摘A novel approach,which can be used for dynamic characteristics analysis of machine tools based on unit structure(US),is reported in this paper.The concepts of unit structures for design of machine tools are defined.In order to satisfy the dynamic characteristics requirement of high natural frequency and light-weight of US,a design method of multi-disciplinary optimization of NSGA-II about unit structures driven by natural frequency and mass is developed.Through analyzing the unit structures,key factors affecting the natural frequency and mass are extracted,and the mathematical models of natural frequency and mass about unit structures are also established by using central composite design and response surface model.The goal of high natural frequency and light-weight is reached by using the multi-objective genetic algorithms.The Pareto optimal set is also obtained.The dynamic behavior of US is investigated by the experimental modal analysis.To show the efficiency of the proposed novel method,the example of YKW51250 gear shaping machine bed is used.Through optimization of NSGA-II about US of YKW51250 machine bed,the natural frequency of YKW51250 gear shaping machine bed is increased by 30.4%and its mass decreased by 5.2%comparing with the original design.By studying the dynamic characteristics of the simplified machine tools bed,useful laws are obtained,and these laws can be used in primary design of NC machine tools structures.The optimal method based on US can be also applied to the dynamic optimal design of machine tools and other similar equipments.ZHU PeiHao CHEN LiHai 2014Science China(Technological Sciences)2014,57,5:3

12Foam structure to improve microwave absorption properties of silicon carbide/carbon material显示文摘Foam structure materials are well known for their lightweight,efficient,and broadband microwave absorption properties compared to bulk material.However,little has been understood about the effect of a foam structure on the absorption performance of the foam material.In this study,the role of foam structure properties of the silicon carbide/carbon(SiC/C)foam material on microwave absorption is explored using experiment and simulation.We find that the foam structure of SiC/C foam material causes diffraction,multiple reflections,improves the interfacial polarization,and compatibilization.The absorption performance of SiC/C foam material is also studied.The-10 dB effective absorption bandwidth can be adjusted from 4.0 GHz to 18 GHz by tuning SiC/C foam material thickness to 3-7 mm.Therefore,the foam structure design is an effective way to improve the absorption performance of the SiC/C foam material.Wanchong Li Chusen Li Lihai Lin Yan Wang Jinsong Zhang 2019Journal of Materials Science & Technology2019,35,11:2
13Advanced surface engineering of titanium materials for biomedical applications:From static modification to dynamic responsive regulation显示文摘Titanium(Ti)and its alloys have been widely used as orthopedic implants,because of their favorable mechanical properties,corrosion resistance and biocompatibility.Despite their significant success in various clinical applications,the probability of failure,degradation and revision is undesirably high,especially for the patients with low bone density,insufficient quantity of bone or osteoporosis,which renders the studies on surface modification of Ti still active to further improve clinical results.It is discerned that surface physicochemical properties directly influence and even control the dynamic interaction that subsequently determines the success or rejection of orthopedic implants.Therefore,it is crucial to endow bulk materials with specific surface properties of high bioactivity that can be performed by surface modification to realize the osseointegration.This article first reviews surface characteristics of Ti materials and various conventional surface modification techniques involving mechanical,physical and chemical treatments based on the formation mechanism of the modified coatings.Such conventional methods are able to improve bioactivity of Ti implants,but the surfaces with static state cannot respond to the dynamic biological cascades from the living cells and tissues.Hence,beyond traditional static design,dynamic responsive avenues are then emerging.The dynamic stimuli sources for surface functionalization can originate from environmental triggers or physiological triggers.In short,this review surveys recent developments in the surface engineering of Ti materials,with a specific emphasis on advances in static to dynamic functionality,which provides perspectives for improving bioactivity and biocompatibility of Ti implants.Pinliang Jiang Yanmei Zhang Ren Hu Bin Shi Lihai Zhang Qiaoling Huang Yun Yang Peifu Tang Changjian Lin 2023Bioactive Materials2023,,9:2
14Multi-scale pore fractal characteristics of differently ranked coal and its impact on gas adsorption显示文摘Well-developed pores and cracks in coal reservoirs are the main venues for gas storage and migration.To investigate the multi-scale pore fractal characteristics,six coal samples of different rankings were studied using high-pressure mercury injection(HPMI),low-pressure nitrogen adsorption(LPGA-N2),and scanning electron microscopy(SEM)test methods.Based on the Frankel,Halsey and Hill(FHH)fractal theory,the Menger sponge model,Pores and Cracks Analysis System(PCAS),pore volume complexity(D_(v)),coal surface irregularity(Ds)and pore distribution heterogeneity(D_(p))were studied and evaluated,respectively.The effect of three fractal dimensions on the gas adsorption ability was also analyzed with high-pressure isothermal gas adsorption experiments.Results show that pore structures within these coal samples have obvious fractal characteristics.A noticeable segmentation effect appears in the Dv1and Dv2fitting process,with the boundary size ranging from 36.00 to 182.95 nm,which helps differentiate diffusion pores and seepage fractures.The D values show an asymmetric U-shaped trend as the coal metamorphism increases,demonstrating that coalification greatly affects the pore fractal dimensions.The three fractal dimensions can characterize the difference in coal microstructure and reflect their influence on gas adsorption ability.Langmuir volume(V_(L))has an evident and positive correlation with Dsvalues,whereas Langmuir pressure(P_(L))is mainly affected by the combined action of Dvand Dp.This study will provide valuable knowledge for the appraisal of coal seam gas reservoirs of differently ranked coals.Zhongbei Li Ting Ren Xiangchun Li Ming Qiao Xiaohan Yang Lihai Tan Baisheng Nie 2023International Journal of Mining Science and Technology2023,33,4:2
15Effect of soil physical–chemical properties on the decay of standing Pinus koraiensis in Xiaoxing'an Mountains,northeast China显示文摘We selected 18 rotten and nine healthy postmature live standing Korean pine(Pinus koraiensis) to study the correlation between the degree of tree decay and soil physical–chemical properties in the Dialing Forest District of the Xiaoxing'an Mountains, China. One transverse section of each sample tree at 40–50 cm height above the ground was tested by Resistograph to determine the inner decay status. We collected soil samples around the root zones(6–20 cm depth) of each sample tree to test the soil physical–chemical indicators including moisture content, bulk density, total porosity, p H, organic matter content, total and hydrolyzed N contents, total and available P contents, total and available K contents, and C/N ratio. The degree of decay of postmature Korean pine live standing trees was significantly and positively correlated with the C/N ratio(R = 0.838, P<0.05), organic matter(R = 0.615, P = 0.007) and moisture content(R = 0.543,P = 0.020) of soil around the root. The contents of total N,hydrolyzed N and available P in the soil under healthy sample trees were significantly greater than those under decayed sample trees, and larger N and P contents might inhibit the decay fungi breeding in soils of p H 4.4–6.29.The optimum multiple regression equation for degree of tree decay on soil physical–chemical indicators showed that the linear correlations between the degree of decay and soil C/N ratio and p H were significant(P<0.01) and the correlation was high(R2= 0.778). 16Investigation of role of cartilage surface polymer brush border in lubrication of biological joints显示文摘Although experimental evidence has suggested that the polymer brush border(PBB)on the cartilage surface is important in regulating fluid permeability in the contact gap,the current theoretical understanding of joint lubrication is still limited.To address this research gap,a multiscale cartilage contact model that includes PBB,in particular its effect on the fluid permeability of the contact gap,is developed in this study.Microscale modeling is employed to estimate the permeability of the contact gap.This permeability is classified into two categories:For a gap size>1μm,the flow resistance is assumed to be dominated by the cartilage roughness;for gap size<1μm,flow resistance is assumed to be dominated by the surface polymers extending beyond the collagen network of the articular cartilage.For gap sizes of less than 1μm,the gap permeability decreases exponentially with increasing aggrecan concentration,whereas the aggrecan concentration varies inversely with the gap size.Subsequently,the gap permeability is employed in a macroscale cartilage contact model,in which both the contact gap space and articular cartilage are modeled as two interacting poroelastic systems.The fluid exchange between these two media is achieved by imposing pressure and normal flux continuity boundary conditions.The model results suggest that PBB can substantially enhance cartilage lubrication by increasing the gap fluid load support(e.g.,by 26 times after a 20-min indentation compared with the test model without a PBB).Additionally,the fluid flow resistance of PBB sustains the cartilage interstitial fluid pressure for a relatively long period,and hence reduces the vertical deformation of the tissue.Furthermore,it can be inferred that a reduction in the PBB thickness impairs cartilage lubrication ability.JinJing LIAO David W.SMITH Saeed MIRAMINI Bruce S.GARDINER Lihai ZHANG 2022Friction2022,10,1:2
