| 1 | Altered trends in carbon uptake in China’s terrestrial ecosystems under the enhanced summer monsoon and warming hiatus显示文摘The carbon budgets in terrestrial ecosystems in China are strongly coupled with climate changes.Over the past decade,China has experienced dramatic climate changes characterized by enhanced summer monsoon and decelerated warming.However,the changes in the trends of terrestrial net ecosystem production(NEP)in China under climate changes are not well documented.Here,we used three ecosystem models to simulate the spatiotemporal variations in China's NEP during 1982–2010 and quantify the contribution of the strengthened summer monsoon and warming hiatus to the NEP variations in four distinct climatic regions of the country.Our results revealed a decadal-scale shift in NEP from a downtrend of–5.95 Tg C/yr^2(reduced sink)during 1982–2000 to an uptrend of 14.22 Tg C/yr^2(enhanced sink)during 2000–10.This shift was essentially induced by the strengthened summer monsoon,which stimulated carbon uptake,and the warming hiatus,which lessened the decrease in the NEP trend.Compared to the contribution of 56.3%by the climate effect,atmospheric CO2 concentration and nitrogen deposition had relatively small contributions(8.6 and 11.3%,respectively)to the shift.In conclusion,within the context of the global-warming hiatus,the strengthening of the summer monsoon is a critical climate factor that enhances carbon uptake in China due to the asymmetric response of photosynthesis and respiration.Our study not only revealed the shift in ecosystem carbon sequestration in China in recent decades,but also provides some insight for understanding ecosystem carbon dynamics in other monsoonal areas. | Honglin He Shaoqiang Wang Li Zhang Junbang Wang Xiaoli Ren Lei Zhou Shilong Piao Hao Yan Weimin Ju Fengxue Gu Shiyong Yu Yuanhe Yang Miaomiao Wang Zhongen Niu Rcmg Ge Huimin Yan Mei Huang Guoyi Zhou Yongfei Bai Zongqiang Xie Zhiyao Tang Bingfang Wu Leiming Zhang Nianpeng He Qiufeng Wang Guirui Yu | 2019 | National Science Review2019,6,3: | 24 |
| 2 | Observation and analysis of near-surface atmospheric aerosol optical properties in urban Beijing显示文摘Year-round measurements of the mass concentration and optical properties of fine aerosols(PM_(2.5)) from June 2009 to May 2010 at an urban site in Beijing were analyzed.The annual mean values of the PM_(2.5) mass concentration,absorption coefficient(Ab),scattering coefficient(Sc) and single scattering albedo(SSA)at 525 nm were 67±66μg/m^3,64 ±62 Mm^(-1),360 ±405 Mm^(-1) and 0.82 ±0.09,respectively.The bulk mass absorption efficiency and scattering efficiency of the PM_(2.5) at 525 nm were 0.78 m^2/g and 5.55 m^2/g,respectively.The Ab and Sc showed a similar diurnal variation with a maximum at night and a minimum in the afternoon,whereas SSA displayed an opposite diurnal pattern.Significant increases in the Ab and Sc were observed in pollution episodes caused by the accumulation of pollutants from both local and regional sources under unfavorable weather conditions.Aerosol loadings in dust events increased by several times in the spring,which had limited effects on the Ab and Sc due to the low absorption and scattering efficiency of dust particles.The frequency of haze days was the highest in autumn because of the high aerosol absorption and scattering under unfavorable weather conditions.The daily PM_(2.5)concentration should be controlled to a level lower than 64 μg/m^3 to prevent the occurrence of haze days according to its exponentially decreased relationship with visibility. | Junshan Jing Yunfei Wu Jun Tao Huizheng Che Xiangao Xia Xiaochun Zhang Peng Yan Deming Zhao Leiming Zhang | 2015 | Particuology2015,13,1: | 16 |

| 5 | Ultrasensitive biosensors based on long-range surface plasmon polariton and dielectric waveguide modes显示文摘An ultrasensitive biosensor based on hybrid structure and composed of long-range surface plasmon polariton(LRSPP) and dielectric planar waveguide(PWG) modes is proposed. Both PWG and LRSPP modes have strong resonances to form strong coupling between the two modes, and the two modes can couple to enhance sensitivity of sensors. In the hybrid structure, PWG is composed of cytop–Si–cytop multilayers and the LRSPP configuration is composed of cytop–metal–sensing medium multilayer slabs. The highest imaging sensitivities of 2264 and3619 RIU-1were realized in the proposed sensors based on Au and Al-monolayer graphene, respectively, which are nearly 1.2 and 1.9 times larger than the 1910 RIU-1sensitivity of the conventional LRSPR sensor(LRSPP sensor). | 8 | Improving the Extreme Rainfall Forecast of Typhoon Morakot(2009) by Assimilating Radar Data from Taiwan Island and China's Mainland显示文摘This study examined the impact of an improved initial field through assimilating ground-based radar data from China's Mainland and Taiwan Island to simulate the long-lasting and extreme rainfall caused by Morakot(2009). The vortex location and the subsequent track analyzed through the radial velocity data assimilation(VDA) are generally consistent with the best track. The initial humidity within the radar detecting region and Morakot's northward translation speed can be significantly improved by the radar reflectivity data assimilation(ZDA). As a result, the heavy rainfall on both sides of Taiwan Strait can be reproduced with the joint application of VDA and ZDA. Based on sensitivity experiments, it was found that, without ZDA, the simulated storm underwent an unrealistic inward contraction after 12-h integration, due to underestimation of humidity in the global reanalysis, leading to underestimation of rainfall amount and coverage. Without the vortex relocation via VDA, the moister(drier) initial field with(without) ZDA will produce a more southward(northward) track, so that the rainfall location on both sides of Taiwan Strait will be affected. It was further found that the improvement in the humidity field of Morakot is mainly due to assimilation of high-value reflectivity(strong convection) observed by the radars in Taiwan Island, especially at Kenting station. There are few studies on the nonlinear optical properties of WSe_2 and correlation with its electronic structure. In this paper, the effects of spatial self-phase modulation(SSPM) and distortion influence of WSe_2 ethanol suspensions are systematically studied, namely,the nonlinear refractive index and third-order nonlinear optical effect. We obtained the WSe_2 dispersions SSPM distortion formation mechanism, and through it, we calculated the nonlinear refractive index n_2,nonlinear susceptibility χ^(3), and their wavelength dependence under the excitation of 457 nm, 532 nm, and671 nm lasers. Moreover, by use of its strong and broadband nonlinear optical response, all-optical switching of two different laser beams due to spatial cross-phase modulation has been realized experimentally. | 18 | A database of modeled gridded dry deposition velocities for 45 gaseous species and three particle size ranges across North America显示文摘The dry deposition process refers to the flux loss of an atmospheric pollutant due to uptake of the pollutant by the earth’s surfaces.Dry deposition flux of a chemical species is typically calculated as the product of its surface-layer concentration and its dry deposition velocity(V_(d)).Field measurement based V_(d) data are very scarce or do not exist for many chemical species considered in chemistry transport models.In the present study,gaseous and particulate dry deposition schemes were applied to generate a database of hourly V_(d) for 45 gaseous species and three particle size ranges for two years(2016–2017)at a 15 kmby 15 km horizontal resolution across North America.Hourly V_(d) of the 45 gaseous species ranged from<0.001 to 4.6 cm/sec across the whole domain,with chemical species-dependentmedian(mean)values being in the range of 0.018–1.37 cm/sec(0.05–1.43 cm/sec).The spatial distributions of the two-year average V_(d) showed values higher than 1–3 cm/sec for those soluble and reactive species over certain land types.Soluble species have the highest V_(d) over water surfaces,while insoluble but reactive species have the highest V_(d) over forests.Hourly V_(d) of PM_(2.5) across the whole domain ranged from 0.039 to 0.75 cm/sec with median(mean)value of 0.18(0.20)cm s^(−1),while the mean V_(d) for PM_(2.5)–10 is twice that of PM_(2.5).Uncertainties in the modeled V_(d) are typically on the order of a factor of 2.0 or larger,which needs to be considered when applying the dataset in other studies. | Leiming Zhang Zhuanshi He Zhiyong Wu Anne Marie Macdonald Jeffrey R.Brook Shailesh Kharol | 2023 | Journal of Environmental Sciences2023,,5: | 0 |
