1Hepatic abscess induced by foreign body:Case report and literature review显示文摘Hepatic abscess due to perforation of the gastrointestinal tract caused by ingested foreign bodies is uncommon. Pre-operative diagnosis is difficult as patients are often unaware of the foreign body ingestion and symptoms and imagiology are usually non-specific. The authors report a case of 62-year-old woman who was admitted with fever and abdominal pain. Further investigation revealed hepatic abscess, without resolution despite antibiotic therapy. A liver abscess resulting from perforation and intra-hepatic migration of a bone coming from the pilorum was diagnosed by surgery. 2Relevance of MUC1 mucin variable number of tandem repeats polymorphism in H pylori adhesion to gastric epithelial cells显示文摘AIM:To evaluate the influence of MUC1 mucin variable number of tandem repeats (VNTR) variability on H pylori adhesion to gastric cells. METHODS: Enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA)-based adhesion assays were performed to measure the adhesion of different H pylori strains (HP26695 and HPTx30a) to gastric carcinoma cell lines (GP202 and MKN45) and GP202 clones expressing recombinant MUC1 with different VNTR lengths. RESULTS: Evaluation of adhesion results shows that H pylori pathogenic strain HP26695 has a significantly higher (P < 0.05) adhesion to all the cell lines and clones tested, when compared to the non-pathogenic strain HPTx30a. Bacteria showed a significantly higher (P < 0.05) adhesion to the GP202 cell line, when compared to the MKN45 cell line. Furthermore, both strains showed a significantly higher (P < 0.05) adhesion to GP202 clones with larger MUC1 VNTR domains. CONCLUSION: This work shows that MUC1 mucin variability conditions H pylori binding to gastric cells. The extent of bacterial adhesion depends on the size of theMUC1 VNTR domain. The adhesion is further dependent on bacterial pathogenicity and the gastric cell line. 3Treatability studies of naphthalene in soil,water and air with persulfate activated by iron(Ⅱ)显示文摘Chemical oxidation was applied to an artificially contaminated soil with naphthalene(NAP).Evaluation of NAP distribution and mass reduction in soil,water and air phases was carried out through mass balance.Evaluation of NAP distribution and mass reduction in soil,water and air phases was carried out through mass balance.The importance of the air phase analysis was emphasized by demonstrating how NAP behaves in a sealed system over a 4 hr reaction period.Design of Experiments method was applied to the following variables:sodium persulfate concentration[SP],ferrous sulfate concentration[FeS04],and pH.The system operated with a prefixed solid to liquid ratio of 1:2.The following conditions resulted in optimum NAP removal[SP]=18.37 g/L,[FeSO4]=4.25 g/L and pH=3.00.At the end of the 4 hr reaction,62%of NAP was degraded.In the soil phase,the chemical oxidation reduced the NAP concentration thus achieving levels which comply with Brazilian and USA environmental legislations.Besides the NAP partitioning view,the monitoring of each phase allowed the variabilities assessment over the process,refining the knowledge of mass reduction.Based on NAP distribution in the system,this study demonstrates the importance of evaluating the presence of semi-volatile and volatile organic compounds in the air phase during remediation,so that there is greater control of the system as to the distribution and presence of the contaminant in the environment.The results highlight the importance of treating the contaminant in all its phases at the contaminated site.Gabriela P.Mendes Vivian M.A.Magalhaes Lélia C·R·Soares Rayanne M.Aranha Claudio A.O.Nascimento Marilda M.G.R.Vianna Osvaldo Chiavone-Filho 2020Journal of Environmental Sciences2020,32,4:4

9Apoptosis induced by a low-carbohydrate and high-protein diet in rat livers显示文摘AIM: To determine whether high-protein, high-fat, and low-carbohydrate diets can cause lesions in rat livers.METHODS: We randomly divided 20 female Wistar rats into a control diet group and an experimental diet group. Animals in the control group received an AIN-93 M diet, and animals in the experimental group received an Atkins-based diet(59.46% protein, 31.77% fat, and 8.77% carbohydrate). After 8 wk, the rats were anesthetized and exsanguinated for transaminases analysis, and their livers were removed for flow cytometry, immunohistochemistry, and light microscopy studies. We expressed the data as mean ± standard deviation(sd) assuming unpaired and parametric data; we analyzed differences using the student's t-test. statistical significance was set at P < 0.05.RESULTS: We found that plasma alanine aminotransferase and aspartate aminotransferase levels were significantly higher in the experimental group than in the control group. According to flow cytometry, the percentages of nonviable cells were 11.67% ± 1.12% for early apoptosis, 12.07% ± 1.11% for late apoptosis, and 7.11% ± 0.44% for non-apoptotic death in the experimental diet group and 3.73% ± 0.50% for early apoptosis, 5.67% ± 0.72% for late apoptosis, and 3.82% ± 0.28% for non-apoptotic death in the control diet group. The mean percentage of early apoptosis was higher in the experimental diet group than in the control diet group. Immunohistochemistry for autophagy was negative in both groups. sinusoidal dilation around the central vein and small hepatocytes was only observed in the experimental diet group, and fibrosis was not identified by hematoxylin-eosin or Trichrome Masson staining in either group.CONCLUSION: Eight weeks of an experimental diet resulted in cellular and histopathological lesions in rat livers.
