| 1 | Characteristics of and risk factors for colorectal neoplasms in young adults in a screening population显示文摘AIM: To investigate prevalence and risk factors for colorectal neoplasms in adults aged < 50 years, for whom screening is not recommended.METHODS: This cross-sectional study compared prevalence and characteristics of colorectal and advanced adenomas in patients aged < 50 years who underwent colonoscopy screening with subjects aged ≥ 50 years. To evaluate risk factors for colorectal and advanced adenoma in young adults, we used multivariable logistic regression models. Colorectal neoplasm characteristics were evaluated and compared with those in older patients.RESULTS: Among 2819 patients included, prevalences of colorectal adenoma and advanced adenoma were 19.7% and 1.5%, respectively. As patient age increased, so did the prevalence of colorectal neoplasm. However, prevalence of advanced adenoma did not differ between age-groups 45-49 years and ≥ 50 years(OR = 0.43, 95%CI: 0.17-1.07, P = 0.070). In younger age-group(< 50 years), colorectal adenoma was significantly associated with older age, waist circumference(OR = 1.72, 95%CI: 1.15-2.55, P = 0.008), and current smoking(OR = 1.60, 95%CI: 1.07-2.41, P = 0.023). Alcohol consumption was an independent risk factor for colorectal advanced adenoma(OR = 3.69, 95%CI: 1.08-12.54, P = 0.037). | 2 | Effect of external beam radiotherapy on patency of uncovered metallic stents in patients with inoperable bile duct cancer显示文摘BACKGROUND: Although biliary decompression with metallic stenting is the preferred treatment for inoperable bile duct cancer(BDC), maintenance of patency is still unsatisfactory.We tried to assess the effectiveness and safety of external beam radiotherapy(EBRT) for prolonging stent patency in patients having uncovered metallic stents.METHOD: We retrospectively reviewed 50 patients who received endoscopic stenting, of whom 18 received EBRT(RT group) and 32 did not(non-RT group).RESULTS: No difference was found in baseline characteristics between the two groups. Although stent patency was longer in the RT group than that in the non-RT group(140.7±51.3 vs136.4±34.9 days, P=0.94), the difference was not statistically significant. There were a lower rate of stent occlusion(27.8% vs50.0% of patients, P=0.12) and a longer overall survival(420.1 ±73.2 vs 269.1±41.7 days, P=0.11) in the RT group than in the non-RT group, and the difference again was not statistically significant. The development of adverse reactions did not differ(55.6% vs 53.1% of patients, P=0.91). There was no serious adverse reaction in both groups(P=0.99).CONCLUSIONS: EBRT did not significantly improve stent patency in patients with inoperable BDC having uncovered metallic stents. However, EBRT was safe. | 3 | Hybrid functional IrO_2-TiO_2 thin film resistor prepared by atomic layer deposition for thermal inkjet printheads显示文摘IrO2-TiO2 thin films were prepared by atomic layer deposition using Ir(EtCp)(COD) and titanium isopropoxide (TTIP). The resistivity of IrO2-TiO2 thin films can be easily controlled from 1 500 to 356.7 μΩ·cm by the IrO2 intermixing ratio from 0.55 to 0.78 in the IrO2-TiO2 thin films. The low temperature coefficient of resistance(TCR) values can be obtained by adopting IrO2-TiO2 composite thin films. Moreover, the change in the resistivity of IrO2-TiO2 thin films was below 10% even after O2 annealing process at 600 °C. The step stress test results show that IrO2-TiO2 films have better characteristics than conventional TaN0.8 heater resistor.
