| 2 | On linking climate to Chinese dynastic change: Spatial and temporal variations of monsoonal rain显示文摘The causal correlation or linkage between the East Asian Monsoon (EAM) intensity and rise/fall of Chinese dynasties recently proposed by high-resolution paleoclimate reconstructions is examined in detail. Aside from many exceptions to the correlation, both instrumental and historical climate records show strong spatial variations of rainfall on annual-to-decadal scales over eastern China. The relationship between rainfall and EAM intensity also exhibits regional disparity. These observations suggest: (1) Tak-ing paleo-proxy records from a single locality in eastern China to imply changes in drought/wetness as to affect the cultural and political history of China is fraught with uncertainty. | 6 | From Workflow to Interworkflow显示文摘Workflow management systems are being introduced in many organizations to automate the business process. The initial emphasis of introducing a workflow management system is on its application to the workflow in a given organization. The next step is to interconnect the workflow across organizations. We call it interworkflow, and the total support technologies, which are necessary for its realization, interworkflow management mechanism. Interworkflow is being expected as a supporting mechanism for Business to Business Electronic Commerce. We had proposed this management mechanism and confirmed its realization with the prototype. At the same time, the interface and the protocol for interconnecting heterogeneous workflow management systems has been standardized by the WfMC. | 11 | Loop Peeling Based on Quasi-Invariance/Induction Variables显示文摘Loop optimization plays an important role in compiler optimization and program transformation. Many sophisticated techniques such as loop invariance code motion have been developed. Loop peeling is a technique to assist parallelization of loops by unfolding loops a few times. This paper introduces a novel technique called loop peeling based on quasi invariance/induction variables. It aims at finding a general and automatic method to derive how many times a given loop should be peeled. Our technique allows for a number of iterations before some variables assigned inside a given loop become invariance or induction variables. In this paper we define the notion of quasi invariance/induction variables, present an algorithm for statically computing the optimal peeling length of a given loop. | 14 | Nonlinear Bubbling and Micro-Convection at a Submerged Orifice显示文摘The present paper describes the nonlinear behavior of bubble formation from a single submerged orifice and induced liquid motion (micro convection) surrounding the bubble. The experimental data reveals that departing periods of successive bubbles evolve multiple periods from single to triple periods when the gas flow rate is increased and that the micro convection evolves bifurcation phenomena similar to the so called 'period doubling' in chaos dynamics. The photographic observation using high speed video movies and data analysis indicate that the nonlinear features come from the deformation of the bubble and also the interaction between consecutive bubbles. A new comprehensive theoretical model is developed for describing the instantaneous bubble behaviors during formation and ascendance processes and for predicting the departing periods and sizes of successive bubbles for constant flow rate conditions. Owing to the estimation of instantaneous interactions between successive bubbles and the incorporation of the wake effect of previous bubbles, the present model describes the evolution process and mechanisms of bubble departing periods corresponding to different gas flow rate regimes. | 16 | NUMERICAL SIMULATION ON EMERGENCY TUNNEL FIRES WITH TRANSVERSE VENTILATION显示文摘In case of an emergency fire in vehicle tunnel, the ventilation system should be operated effectively to control the thermal fume and smoke inside tunnel. However, it is quite difficult to predict every kind of emergency fire by fire tests because the actual movement of thermal fume and smoke is affected by many factors such as ventilation system, structure of the tunnel, etc., especially for tunnels equipped with transverse ventilation system on which rare experimental and numerical studies have been found so far. In this paper, a three dimensional numerical simulator using LES turbulence model is developed to simulate the movement of thermal fume induced by emergency fire in vehicle tunnel. The SMAC method is employed to calculate the pressure and velocity fields. The upwind differnece scheme with the third order accuracy is applied for the discretization of convection terms of the governmental equations. As the applications of the present simulator, the behavior of thermal fume induced by emergency fire in a vehicle tunnel with two direction traffic is analyzed. It is confirmed that the partial transverse ventilation system is more effective than the longitudinal ventilation system under large and small velocities of longitudinal bulk flow inside tunnel.
