| 1 | Efficacy of multislice computed tomography for gastroenteric and hepatic surgeries显示文摘AIM: To determine the efficacy of multislice CT for gastroenteric and hepatic surgery.METHODS: Dual-phase helical computed tomography was performed in 50 of 51 patients who underwent gastroenteric and hepatic surgeries. Twenty-eight, eighteen and four patients suffering from colorectal cancer, gastric cancer,and liver cancer respectively underwent colorectal surgery (laparoscopic surgery: 6 cases), gastrectomy, and hepatectomy. Three-dimensional computed tomography imaging of the inferior mesenteric artery, celiac artery and hepatic artery was performed. And in the follow-up examination of postoperative patients, multiplanar reconstruction image was made in case of need.RESULTS: Scans in 50 patients were technically satisfactory and included in the analysis. Depiction of major visceral arteries, which were important for surgery and other treatments, could be done in all patients.Preoperative visualization of the left colic artery and sigmoidal arteries, the celiac artery and its branches, and hepatic artery was very useful to lymph node dissection,the planning of a reservoir and hepatectomy. | 2 | Insulin-like growth factor-1, IGF binding protein-3, and the risk of esophageal cancer in a nested case-control study显示文摘AIM To assess the relationship between serum levels of insulin-like growth factor-1(IGF1)/IGF-binding protein-3(IGFBP3)and the risk of esophageal carcinoma.METHODS We assessed the relationship between the serum levels of these molecules and the risk of esophageal cancer in a prospective,nested case-control study of participants from the Japan Collaborative Cohort Study.A baseline survey was conducted from 1988 to 1990.Of the 110585 enrolled participants,35%donated blood samples.Those who had been diagnosed with esophageal cancer were considered cases for nested case-control studies.A conditional logistic model was used to estimate odds ratios for the incidence of esophageal cancer associated with serum IGF1 and IGFBP3 levels.RESULTS Thirty-one cases and 86 controls were eligible for the present assessment.The molar ratio of IGF1/IGFBP3,which represents the free and active form of IGF1,was not correlated with the risk of esophageal carcinoma.A higher molar difference between IGFBP3and IGF1,which estimates the free form of IGFBP3,was associated with a decreased risk of esophageal carcinoma(P=0.0146),and people in the highest tertile had the lowest risk(OR=0.107,95%CI:0.017-0.669).After adjustment for body mass index,tobacco use,and alcohol intake,the molar difference of IGFBP3-IGF1 was inversely correlated with the risk of esophageal carcinoma(P=0.0150).CONCLUSION The free form of IGFBP3,which is estimated by this molar difference,may be inversely associated with esophageal cancer incidence. | Yasushi Adachi Masanori Nojima Mitsuru Mori Kentaro Yamashita Hiro-o Yamano Hiroshi Nakase Takao Endo Kenji Wakai Kiyomi Sakata Akiko Tamakoshi | 2017 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2017，23，19： | 4 |
| 3 | Effects of anti-hypertensive drugs on esophageal body contraction显示文摘AIM:To clarify the effects of anti-hypertensive drugs on esophageal contraction and determine their possi-ble relationship with gastro-esophageal reflux disease.METHODS:Thirteen healthy male volunteers were enrolled. Esophageal body peristaltic contractions and lower esophageal sphincter (LES) pressure were measured using high resolution manometry. All subjects were randomly examined on four separate occasions following administrations of nifedipine,losartan,and atenolol,as well as without any drug administration.RESULTS:Peristaltic contractions by the esophageal body were separated into three segments by two troughs. The peak peristaltic pressures in the mid and lower segments of the esophageal body under atenolol administration were signifi cantly higher than those without medication in a supine position. On the other hand,peristaltic pressures under nifedipine administration were lower than those observed without drug ad-ministration. Losartan did not change esophageal body peristalsis. Atenolol elevated LES pressure and slowed peristaltic wave transition,while the effects of nifedip-ine were the opposite. | 4 | Production and Accumulation of Xylooligosaccharides with Long Chains by Growing Culture and Xylanase of a Mutant Strain of Bacillus pumilus X-6-19显示文摘Bacillus pumilus X-6-9 isolated from soil and subsequently identified, produced xylooligosaccharides with long chains from xylan and accumulated them in the culture. By improving the culture conditions and mutating the bacterium, a 3.2-fold increase in the production of the xylooligosaccharides was established, when compared to the original culture conditions of B. pumilus X-6-19. The addition of D-glucose to the culture of the mutant strain U-3 of B. pumilus X-6-9 repressed the synthesis of β-xylosidase, but not xylanase. Thus, it was revealed that strain U-3 was a good organism for the production and accumulation of xylooligosaccharides with long chains from xylan by a microbial culture. Xylanase produced by strain U-3 was purified to homogeneity and characterized. | 5 | Esophageal epithelial surface in patients with gastroesophageal reflux disease:An electron microscopic study显示文摘AIM: To investigate the intercellular spaces between the most superficially located esophageal epithelial cells in patients with gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). METHODS: Eighteen patients with erosive esophagitis, 10 patients with non-erosive reflux disease (NERD), and 18 normal asymptomatic volunteers were enrolled. Biopsy specimens were obtained from the lower esophageal mucosa without ulcer or erosion. Scanning electron microscopy was employed to investigate the tightness of the superficial cellular attachment. RESULTS: The intercellular space between the most superficially located epithelial cells in patients with erosive esophagitis or NERD was not different from that in asymptomatic healthy individuals.
