2Biosorption of Cu^(2+) and Zn^(2+) by raw and autoclaved Rocella phycopsis显示文摘The behavior of Cu2+ and Zn2+ biosorption onto raw and modified Roccella phycopsis from aqueous solutions was studied. Modification process was applied by autoclavation at 121°C for 30 min. The effcts of pH, initial metal concentration and biosorbent dosage were investigated. The maximum Cu2+ biosorption was achieved at pH 5.0 and the maximum biosorption capacities of 31.5 and 37.8 mg/g were recorded for raw and modified biosorbent, respectively. In the case of Zn2+ biosorption, maximum biosorption capacities were obtained at pH 4.0 as 29.1 and 35.3 mg/g for raw and modified biosorbent, respectively. Biosorption of Zn2+ and Cu2+ on all form of R. phycopsis increased much quickly with increasing initial metal concentrations from 10 to 100 mg/L. After modification process, probable changes in the surface polarity of raw and modified R. phycopsis were investigated by contact angle measurements. 3Geotechnical investigations and remediation design for failure of tunnel portal section: a case study in northern Turkey显示文摘Mass movements are very common problems in the eastern Black Sea region of Turkey due to its climate conditions, geological, and geomorphological characteristics. High slope angle, weathering, dense rainfalls, and anthropogenic impacts are generally reported as the most important triggering factors in the region. Following the portal slope excavations in the entrance section of Cankurtaran tunnel, located in the region, where the highly weathered andesitic tuff crops out, a circular toe failure occurred. The main target of the present study is to investigate the causes and occurrence mechanism of this failure and to determine the feasible remedial measures against it using finite element method(FEM) in four stages. These stages are slope stability analyses for pre-and postexcavation cases, and remediation design assessments for slope and tunnel. The results of the FEM-SSR analyses indicated that the insufficient initial support design and weathering of the andesitic tuffs are the main factors that caused the portal failure. After installing a rock retaining wall with jet grout columns and reinforced slope benching applications, the factor of safety increased from 0.83 to 2.80. In addition toslope stability evaluation, the Rock Mass Rating(RMR), Rock Mass Quality(Q) and New Austrian Tunneling Method(NATM) systems were also utilized as empirical methods to characterize the tunnel ground and to determine the tunnel support design. The performance of the suggested empirical support design, induced stress distributions and deformations were analyzed by means of numerical modelling. Finally, it was concluded that the recommended stabilization technique was essential for the dynamic long-term stability and prevents the effects of failure. 4Modeling surface fuels moisture content in Pinus brutia stands显示文摘Fuel moisture content is an important variable for forest fires because it affects fuel ignition and fire behavior. In order to accurately predict fuel ignition potential, fuel moisture content must be assessed by evaluating fire spread, fireline intensity and fuel consumption.Our objective here is to model moisture content of surface fuels in normally stocked Calabrian pine(Pinus brutia Ten.) stands in relation to weather conditions, namely temperature, relative humidity, and wind speed in the Mugla province of Turkey. All surface fuels were categorized according to diameter classes and fuel types. Six fuel categories were defined: these were 0–0.3, 0.3–0.6, and0.6–1 cm diameter classes, and cone, surface litter, and duff. Plastic containers 15 9 20 cm in size with 1 9 1 mm mesh size were used. Samples were taken from 09:00 to19:00 h and weighed every 2 h with 0.01 g precision for10 days in August. At the end of the study, samples were taken to the laboratory, oven-dried at 105 °C for 24 h and weighed to obtain fuel-moisture contents. Weather measurements were taken from a fully automated weather station set up at the study site prior to the study. Correlation and regression analyses were carried out and models were developed to predict fuel moisture contents for desorption and adsorption phase for each fuel type categories. Practical fuel moisture prediction models were developed for dry period. Models were developed that performed well with reasonable accuracy, explaining up to 92 and 95.6%of the variability in fuel-moisture contents for desorption and adsorption phases, respectively. Validation of the models were conducted using an independent data set and known fuel moisture prediction models. The predictive power of the models was satisfactory with mean absolute error values being 1.48 and 1.02 for desorption and adsorption as compared to the 2.05 and 1.60 values for the Van Wagner's hourly litter moisture content prediction model. 5年龄相关性黄斑变性的脉络膜厚度评价(英文)显示文摘目的:通过光学相干断层扫描(optical coherence tomography,OCT;RTVue 100-2;V 5.1,Optovue,Fremont,CA,USA)测量比较非新生血管性与新生血管性年龄相关性黄斑变性(age-related macular degeneration,AMD)黄斑中心凹下脉络膜厚度(subfoveal choroidal thickness,SFCT),并分析脉络膜厚度(choroidal thickness,CT)对AMD新血管形成的影响。方法:本研究为回顾性、横断面研究。以单侧眼患有新生血管性AMD且对侧眼患有非新生血管性AMD的24例患者(48眼)作为研究组,选取年龄与眼轴长度相匹配的40例健康眼作为对照组。非新生血管性AMD亚组研究对象是黄斑区有玻璃疣和/或色素变化眼,而新生血管性AMD亚组研究对象是由于脉络膜新生血管而致视网膜下或视网膜内有渗出液和/或脂性渗出眼。运用OCT垂直测量外侧高反射线(视网膜色素上皮层)到脉络膜巩膜交界面间的距离。选取7个不同点进行脉络膜厚度测量,测量区域为距黄斑中心凹颞侧和鼻侧1500μm范围,测量间距为500μm。测量结果在亚组间进行统计学对比研究。结果:研究组患者平均年龄为72.4±8.97(60~82)岁,对照组受试者平均年龄为71.2±8.8(58~81)岁。新生血管性AMD组中平均SFCT明显大于非新生血管性AMD组的厚度(P<0.05)。非新生血管性AMD组中,平均SFCT与平均鼻、颞侧脉络膜厚度比较,差异无统计学意义(P>0.05);而新生血管性AMD组中,平均SFCT与平均鼻、颞侧脉络膜厚度比较,差异有统计学意义(P<0.05)。结论:运用OCT对脉络膜厚度进行测量,有助于理解AMD的病理生理机制。然而,仍需要大型前瞻性研究来探求新生血管性AMD中SFCT增厚的原因。Erkan Unsal Kadir Eltutar Ozen Ayranci Osmanbasoglu Sibel Zιrtιloglu Osman Kιzιlay Hulya Gungel 2014国际眼科杂志2014,14,9:4
6Antioxidants vitamin E and C attenuate hepatic fibrosis in biliary-obstructed rats显示文摘AIM: To investigate whether antioxidants vitamin E and C can retard development of hepatic fibrosis in the bili- ary-obstructed rats. METHODS: Fifty Wistar albino rats were randomly as- signed to 5 groups (10 rats in each). Bile duct was liga- ted in 40 rats and they were treated as follows: group vitC, vitamin C 10 mg/kg sc daily; group vitE, vitamin E 15 mg/kg sc daily; group vitEC, both of the vitamins; bile duct-ligated (BDL, control) group, physiological saline sc. The fifth group was assigned to sham operation. At the end of fourth week, the rats were decapitated, and hepatic tissue biochemical collagen content and collagen surface area were measured. Hepatic tissue specimens were histopathologically evaluated according to Scheuer system. Serum hyaluronate levels were measured by ELISA method. RESULTS: Despite being higher than sham group, he- patic collagen level was significantly decreased in each of the vitC, vitE and vitEC groups (32.7 ± 1.2, 33.8 ± 2.9, 36.7 ± 0.5 μg collagen/mg protein, respectively) compared to BDL (48.3 ± 0.6 mg collagen/g protein) (P < 0.001 for each vitamin group). Each isolated vitamin C, isolated vitamin E and combined vitamin E/C supp-lementation prevented the increase in hepatic collagen surface density (7.0% ± 1.1%, 6.2% ± 1.7%, 12.3% ± 2.0%, respectively) compared to BDL (17.4% ± 5.6%) (P < 0.05 for each). The same beneficial effect of vitamin C, vitamin E and combined vitamin E/C treatment was also observed on the decrease of serum hyaluronate levels compared to BDL group (P < 0.001). The relative liver and spleen weights, serum transaminases, cholestatic enzymes, bilirubins and histopathological inflammation scores were not different between the antioxidant treat- ment groups and the control. However, fibrosis staging scores were obviously reduced only in the vitamin E/C combination group (vit EC: 2.4 ± 0.8 vs BDL: 3.1 ± 0.7; P < 0.05). CONCLUSION: Each antioxidant vitamin E, vitamin C and their combination retard hepatic fibrosis in biliary-obs- tructed rats. 7Etiological role of brucellosis in autoimmune hepatitis显示文摘To show that brucellosis may trigger autoimmune hepatitis(AIH), in addition to nonspecific liver involvement and toxic hepatitis, due to a class effect of tetracycline family used for treatment. We present a female patient admitted to our hospital due to partially improved fatigue and elevated liver enzymes following doxycycline and streptomycin usage for brucellosis. Brucellosis is endemic in our country, Turkey. It may involve any organ in the body. Liver is frequently involved. Doxycycline used for treatment occasionally may lead to hepatotoxicity. AIH is a necroinflammatory disease of the liver. Certain drugs (e.g. Minocycline), toxins, and viruses (hepatitis B, hepatitis C, EBV, etc.) can trigger AIH. Only one case of AIH probably caused by doxycycline and brucellosis was reported. We discuss the relationship between brucellosis, AIH, and hepatotoxicity of doxycycline. 8Treatment for cartilage injuries of the knee with a new treatment algorithm显示文摘Treatment of articular cartilage injuries to the knee remains a considerable challenge today. Current procedures succeed in providing relief of symptoms, however damaged articular tissue is not replaced with new tissue of the same biomechanical properties and long-term durability as normal hyaline cartilage. Despite many arthroscopic procedures that often manage to achieve these goals, results are far from perfect and there is no agreement on which of these procedures are appropriate, particularly when full-thickness chondral defects are considered.Therefore, the search for biological solution in long-term functional healing and increasing the quality of wounded cartilage has been continuing. For achieving this goal and apply in wide defects, scaffolds are developed.The rationale of using a scaffold is to create an environment with biodegradable polymers for the in vitro growth of living cells and their subsequent implantation into the lesion area. Previously a few numbers of surgical treatment algorithm was described in reports, however none of them contained one-step or two –steps scaffolds. 10Mechanical and corrosion properties of partially degradable bone screws made of pure iron and stainless steel 316L by friction welding显示文摘This paper reports a series of in vitro, ex vivo and in vivo mechanical and corrosion studies of pin and screw prototype made of friction welded pure iron and 316 L type stainless steel aiming to evaluate the applicability of the partially removable bone screws. Results showed that the pin possesses bending, tensile and torsional strengths of1706±147, 666±7 and 0.34±0.03 MPa, respectively. The pin degraded at an average weight loss rate of 17.15×10-5 g cm-2 day-1 and released Fe ions at an average concentration of 2.38 ppm. Plastic deformation induced by torsion increased the corrosion rate of the pin from 0.0014 to 0.0137 mm year-1.The maximum pull-out load of the screw prototypes was3800 N with a calculated failure strength by shear load equal to22.2 k N which is higher than the strength of the cortical bone.Detailed analysis of the rat's blood cells during 60 days of the pin implantation indicated a normal response with low neutrophils/lymphocytes ratio of 0.3-0.5. Iron ion concentration in the rat's blood slightly increased from 55 to 61 ppm without affecting the tissue recovering and healing phase. 11马来西亚大学医学中心角膜溃疡的回顾分析显示文摘目的:分析角膜溃疡的病例分布、危险因素、临床特点、微生物检查及预后结果。方法:对2003-07/2006-04就诊于马来西亚大学医学中心的84例(87眼)患者进行研究,其中1例双眼发病,另1例曾因疱疹性角膜炎复发3次就诊。选入标准包括角膜上皮缺损、角膜基质浸润及炎症。结果:患者84例中有男46例,女38例。主要是马来人(52%)。3个主要的危险因素是角膜接触镜的配戴(47%),眼外伤(25%)及眼表疾病(24%)。在老年患者中,糖尿病(8%)及高血压(9%)是重要的系统性疾病。阳性为25%,而微生物培养阳性为73%。在各危险因素组中,绿脓杆菌是最常见的致病菌,在角膜接触镜配戴者中最高。耐庆大霉素革兰染色阴性菌有2例,耐青霉素表皮葡萄球菌有1例。75%的患者溃疡愈合,遗留角膜混浊。2mo后,54%的患眼最佳矫正视力〉6/18,14%〈3/60。3例患者需要行眼球摘除或剜除术。结论:角膜接触镜配戴和眼外伤是青年人群中主要的可预防性危险因素,相反,眼疾是老年人中不可预防的危险因素。超过60%的培养阳性病例为革兰染色阴性菌。A J Kadir A Samsudin A Fauzi , Z Z Abidin 2008国际眼科杂志2008,8,12:3

13Hepatitis B-related events in autologous hematopoietic stem cell transplantation recipients显示文摘AIM: To investigate the frequency of occult hepatitis B, the clinical course of hepatitis B virus (HBV) reactivation and reverse seroconversion and associated risk factors in autologous hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) recipients. METHODS: This study was conducted in 90 patients undergoing autologous HSCT. Occult HBV infection was investigated by HBV-DNA analysis prior to transplantation, while HBV serology and liver function tests were screened prior to and serially after transplantation. HBV-related events including reverse seroconversion and reactivation were recorded in all patients. RESULTS: None of the patients had occult HBV prior to transplantation. Six (6.7%) patients were positivefor HBV surface antigen (HBsAg) prior to transplantation and received lamivudine prophylaxis; they did not develop HBV reactivation after transplantation. Clinical HBV infection emerged in three patients after transplantation who had negative HBV-DNA prior to HSCT. Two of these three patients had HBV reactivation while one patient developed acute hepatitis B. Three patients had anti-HBc as the sole hepatitis B-related antibody prior to transplantation, two of whom developed hepatitis B reactivation while none of the patients with antibody to HBV surface antigen (anti-HBs) did so. The 14 anti-HBs-and/or anti-HBc-positive patients among the 90 HSCT recipients experienced either persistent (8 patients) or transient (6 patients) disappearance of anti-HBs and/or anti-HBc. HBsAg seroconversion and clinical hepatitis did not develop in these patients. Female gender and multiple myeloma emerged as risk factors for loss of antibody in regression analysis (P < 0.05). CONCLUSION: Anti-HBc as the sole HBV marker seems to be a risk factor for reactivation after autologous HSCT. The humoral immunogenicity was determined by ELISA [immunoglobulin G(Ig G), Ig G1 and Ig G2a] and the cellular immunogenicity was evaluated in vivo by delayed type hypersensitivity. The humoral cross-reactive response against M. tuberculosis was determined by Western blot.Results: Sera from animals immunized with PLBCG-AL and PLBCG showed significant increase in specific total Ig G and Ig G1 antibodies and the presence of cross-reactive antibodies against M. tuberculosis antigens, which were more intense with the use of alum as adjuvant. 16A comparative assessment of rock mass deformation modulus显示文摘Deformation modulus of a rock mass(E_m) is one of the most important design parameters in construction of rock engineering projects such as underground excavations.However,difficulties are frequently encountered during in-situ tests which are also time-consuming and expensive for determining this parameter.Although E_m is often estimated indirectly from proposed equations by different researchers,many of these equations cannot be used in case of problematic rock conditions(thinly bedded,highly jointed rock masses,etc.) as high quality core samples are required.This study aims to explore more practical and useful equation for E_m estimation using Rock Quality Designation(RQD) and point load index values.Comparisons were made between available empirical equations and the proposed E_m equation in terms of the estimation capacity.Multiple comparison tests(ANOVA) showed that E_m can be reliably estimated using proposed equation especially at the preliminary stages of projects.Kadir Karaman Ferdi Cihangir Ayhan Kesimal 2015International Journal of Mining Science and Technology2015,25,5:3
17Ultrasound biomicroscopy in patients with unilateral pseudoexfoliation显示文摘·AIM: To compare the anterior segment morphology evaluated using ultrasound biomicroscopy(UBM) in patients with clinical pseudoexfoliation syndrome(XFS)in one eye and no clinical XFS in the fellow eye.·METHODS: Thirty patients with unilateral XFS were included in the study. All patients underwent evaluation of their anterior segment using UBM with and without dilatation with 1% cyclopentolate. The anterior chamber depth(ACD), lens thickness(LT), anterior chamber angle(ACA), ciliary body thickness(CBT), scleral thickness(ST), trabeculae-ciliary processes distance(T-CPD), and iris-ciliary processes distance(I-CPD) were measured using UBM scans. All results between the eyes with clinical XFS and their fellow eyes without clinical XFS were then compared.·RESULTS: Before dilatation the eyes with XFS(4.350±0.531 mm) were found to have a significantly thicker lens(P =0.002) than the eyes without XFS(4.238 ±0.540 mm).In addition after dilatation, the eyes with XFS(4.310 ±0.500 mm) were found to have a significantly thicker lens than the eyes without XFS(4.160±0.480 mm)(P=0.019).The average ACD, for the group with XFS, comparing pre-dilatation(2.616 ±0.349 mm) and post-dilatation measurements(2.714±0.413) was found to be statistically increased(P =0.014). 18Isolation and diagnosis of Helicobacter pylori by a new method: Microcapillary culture显示文摘AIM:To investigate the performance of the microcapillary culture method(MCM) in Helicobacter pylori(H.pylori) isolation and diagnosis.METHODS:Microcapillary culture(MC),classical culture(CC),rapid urease(CLO) test,and histopathologic examination(HE) were performed with biopsy samples.Homogenized biopsy samples were loaded into capillary tubes and incubated for 48 h at 37 ℃ without providing a microaerophilic environment.Additionally,three or four loops of the homogenized sample were inoculated in a ready-to-use selective medium(Becton Dickinson,Helicobacter Agar,Modified) specific for the isolation of H.pylori and incubated at 37 ℃ in a microaerophilic atmosphere provided by Campy Gen(Becton Dickinson,Gas Pack).Bacteria reproducing in microcapillary tubes were evaluated in an inverted microscope and also were evaluated after performing a CC with the content.Results obtained by CC,CLO test,and HE were compared with those of MC.The diagnostic performances of the methods used in this study were evaluated for specificity,sensitivity,positive predictive value(PPV),negative predictive value(NPV),and CI.RESULTS:H.pylori was found positive by CLO test +HE and/or CC culture in 26 patient antrum and corpus biopsy samples.In 25(25/26) patient biopsy samples,H.pylori was isolated by MCM,whereas in only 14(14/26) patient biopsy samples,H.pylori was isolatedby CC.CLO test and HE were found positive in 17(17/26) patient biopsy samples.Comparing the results of the isolation of H.pylori by MCM,CC,CLO test,and HE,the sensitivity of the MCM was found as 96%,the specificity as 80%,the PPV as 83%,the NPV as 95%,and the 95%CI as 0.76(χ2 =31.51,P < 0.01) whereas the sensitivity of the CC was found as 54%(χ2 =19.15,P < 0.01),and the sensitivity of the CLO test and HE were found as 65%(χ2 =25.26,P < 0.01).CONCLUSION:This new microcapillary cultivation method for H.pylori has high diagnostic sensitivity compared with CC,HE,and CLO tests.Adil M Allahverdiyev Melahat Bagirova Reyhan Caliskan Hrisi Bahar Tokman Hayat Aliyeva Gokce Unal Olga Nehir Oztel Emrah Sefik Abamor Hilal Toptas Pelin Yuksel Fatma Kalayci Mustafa Aslan Yusuf Erzin Kadir Bal Bekir S Kocazeybek 2015World Journal of Gastroenterology2015,21,9:2
