| 1 | Future Physics Programme of BESⅢ显示文摘There has recently been a dramatic renewal of interest in hadron spectroscopy and charm physics. This renaissance has been driven in part by the discovery of a plethora of charmonium-like XYZ states at BESⅢ and B factories, and the observation of an intriguing proton-antiproton threshold enhancement and the possibly related X(1835) meson state at BESⅢ, as well as the threshold measurements of charm mesons and charm baryons. We present a detailed survey of the important topics in tau-charm physics and hadron physics that can be further explored at BESⅢ during the remaining operation period of BEPCⅡ. | 2 | Synthesis, characterization and biocompatibility studies of zinc oxide(ZnO) nanorods for biomedical application显示文摘Nanoparticles are increasingly being recognized for their potential utility in biological applications including nanomedicine.Here,we have synthesized zinc oxide(ZnO)nanorods using zinc acetate and hexamethylenetetramine as precursors followed by characterizing using X-ray diffraction,fourier transform infrared spectroscopy,scanning electron microscopy and transmission electron microscopy.The growth of synthesized zinc oxide nanorods was found to be very close to its hexagonal nature,which is confirmed by X-ray diffraction.The nanorod was grown perpendicular to the long-axis and grew along the[001]direction,which is the nature of ZnO growth.The morphology of synthesized ZnO nanorods from the individual crystalline nucleus was confirmed by scanning and transmission electron microscopy.The length of the nanorod was estimated to be around 21 nm in diameter and 50 nm in length.Our toxicology studies showed that synthesized ZnO nanorods exposure on hela cells has no significant induction of oxidative stress or cell death even in higher concentration(10μg/ml).The results suggest that ZnO nanorods might be a safer nanomaterial for biological applications. | R.Gopikrishnan K.Zhang P.Ravichandran S.Baluchamy V.Ramesh S.Biradar P.Ramesh J.Pradhan J.C.Hall A.K.Pradhan G.T.Ramesh | 2010 | Nano-Micro Letters2010,2,1: | 3 |
| 3 | Strain-induced formation of a gradient nanostructured surface layer on an ultrahigh strength bearing steel显示文摘In the present work, an ultrahigh strength bearing steel(AISI 52100) was subjected to surface mechanical rolling treatment(SMRT) at room temperature. Microstructural observations showed that martensitic laths, twins and cementite particles in the initial microstructure underwent distinct plastic strains and were gradually refined into nanostructures. Consequently, a gradient nanostructured(GNS) surface layer with a mean grain size of ~24 nm at the top surface was obtained on the bearing steel, resulting in an increment of ~20% in the surface hardness. Analyses based on microstructural evolution, phase constitution and in-depth hardness distribution revealed a mechanically induced formation mechanism of the GNS surface layer. | 17 | Disrupted Maturation of Prefrontal Layer 5 Neuronal Circuits in an Alzheimer’s Mouse Model of Amyloid Deposition显示文摘Mutations in genes encoding amyloid precursor protein(APP)and presenilins(PSs)cause familial forms of Alzheimer’s disease(AD),a neurodegenerative disorder strongly associated with aging.It is currently unknown whether and how AD risks affect early brain development,and to what extent subtle synaptic pathology may occur prior to overt hallmark AD pathology.Transgenic mutant APP/PS1 over-expression mouse lines are key tools for studying the molecular mechanisms of AD pathogenesis.Among these lines,the 5XFAD mice rapidly develop key features of AD pathology and have proven utility in studying amyloid plaque formation and amyloidβ(Aβ)-induced neurodegeneration.We reasoned that transgenic mutant APP/PS1 over-expression in 5XFAD mice may lead to neurodevelopmental defects in early cortical neurons,and performed detailed synaptic physiological characterization of layer 5(L5)neurons from the prefrontal cortex(PFC)of 5XFAD and wild-type littermate controls.L5 PFC neurons from 5XFAD mice show early APP/Aβimmunolabeling.Whole-cell patch-clamp recording at an early post-weaning age(P22–30)revealed functional impairments;although 5XFAD PFC-L5 neurons exhibited similar membrane properties,they were intrinsically less excitable.In addition,these neurons received smaller amplitude and frequency of miniature excitatory synaptic inputs.These functional disturbances were further corroborated by decreased dendritic spine density and spine head volumes that indicated impaired synapse maturation.Slice biotinylation followed by Western blot analysis of PFC-L5 tissue revealed that 5XFAD mice showed reduced synaptic AMPA receptor subunit GluA1 and decreased synaptic NMDA receptor subunit GluN2A.Consistent with this,patch-clamp recording of the evoked L23>L5 synaptic responses revealed a reduced AMPA/NMDA receptor current ratio,and an increased level of AMPAR-lacking silent synapses.These results suggest that transgenic mutant forms of APP/PS1 overexpression in 5XFAD mice leads to early developmental defects of cortical circuits,which could contribute to the age-dependent synaptic pathology and neurodegeneration later in life. | Chang Chen Jing Wei Xiaokuang Ma Baomei Xia Neha Shakir Jessica K.Zhang Le Zhang Yuehua Cui Deveroux Ferguson Shenfeng Qiu Feng Bai | 2023 | Neuroscience Bulletin2023,39,6: | 0 |
