MicroRNA: a new and promising potential biomarker for diagnosis and prognosis of ovarian cancer显示文摘Epithelial ovarian cancer(EOC) is the leading cause of death among all gynecological malignancies. Despite the technological and medical advances over the past four decades, such as the development of several biological markers(mRNA and proteins biomarkers), the mortality rate of ovarian cancer remains a challenge because of its late diagnosis, which is specifically attributed to low specificities and sensitivities. Under this compulsive scenario, recent advances in expression biology have shifted in identifying and developing specific and sensitive biomarkers, such as micro RNAs(miRNAs) for cancer diagnosis and prognosis. MiRNAs are a novel class of small non-coding RNAs that deregulate gene expression at the posttranscriptional level, either by translational repression or by mRNA degradation. These mechanisms may be involved in a complex cascade of cellular events associated with the pathophysiology of many types of cancer. MiRNAs are easily detectable in tissue and blood samples of cancer patients. Therefore, miRNAs hold good promise as potential biomarkers in ovarian cancer. In this review, we attempted to provide a comprehensive profile of key miRNAs involved in ovarian carcinoma to establish mi RNAs as more reliable non-invasive clinical biomarkers for early detection of ovarian cancer compared with protein and DNA biomarkers.Manish K.Pal Shyam P.Jaiswar Vinaya N.Dwivedi Amit K.Tripathi Ashish Dwivedi Pushplata Sankhwar 2015Cancer Biology & Medicine2015,12,4:12
Metastasis in renal cell carcinoma:Biology and implications for therapy显示文摘Although multiple advances have been made in systemic therapy for renal cell carcinoma(RCC),metastatic RCC remains incurable. In the current review,we focus on the underlying biology of RCC and plausible mechanisms of metastasis. We further outline evolving strategies to combat metastasis through adjuvant therapy. Finally,we discuss clinical patterns of metastasis in RCC and how distinct systemic therapy approaches may be considered based on the anatomic location of metastasis.Jun Gong Manuel Caitano Maia Nazli Dizman Ameish Govindarajan Sumanta K.Pal 2016Asian Journal of Urology2016,3,4:7
GPS measured static and kinematic offsets at near and far field of the 2011 Mw 9.0 Tohoku-Oki earthquake显示文摘The Mw 9.0 Tohoku-Oki earthquake that hit the mainland Japan on 11 th March, 2011 had resulted a devastating Tsunami due to an active thrusting between the Pacific and the North American Plates. Static and kinematic offsets at the offshore epicentre of the Mw 9.0 event remain unanswered and being investigated along with their near and far field limiting distances from the epicentre. Accordingly, offset measurements from 60 continuously operating IGS and GEONET GNSS stations were radially classified from the epicentre and interpreted with analytical models to find their linear offset decay rates. Co-and post-seismic static positional anomaly offsets of sixty days show almost all near field stations had strong or appreciable eastward or south eastward static shifts. Near stations(<250 km) showed both kinematic and static offsets. GEONET station ’0175’ showed maximum resultant static offset of-4.5 m, which diminishes approximately 1-2 cm at far sites like SMST and AIRA. Characteristic decay duration(’b’) of the mean kinematic co-seismic shift(’a’)of near field stations was 17.28 s during earthquake hours with an EW component shift >1.5 m. Spatial models of projected N-S static and kinematic offsets show their asymmetrical distributions around the epicentre with maximum model offset of-1.84 m displaced towards south at-45 km north of the epicentre. The Tohoku-Oki earthquake produced a resultant kinematic offset of-10.2 m towards East at its offshore epicentre;while the estimated near field static offset is ~9.82 m. However, both estimates are bigger than double the resultant offset measured value(~4.3 m) in the Japanese mainland using GPS. The difference in the kinematic and static near field offsets highlight that the near surface had elastic or in-elastic kinematic strain dissipation as against the lithospheric level viscoelastic static response, which resulted rapid kinematic strain release(1.12 cm/km)within the limiting radius of ~220 km from the Tohoku-Oki epicentre.Param K.Gautam Rajesh Sathyaseelan John P.Pappachen Naresh Kumar Arkoprovo Biswas George Philip ChANDra P.Dabral Sanjit K.Pal 2019Geodesy and Geodynamics2019,10,3:1

Renal cell carcinoma:An update for the practicing urologist显示文摘Systemic therapy for metastatic renal cell carcinoma(mRCC)has evolved drastically, with agents targeting vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF)and the mammalian target of rapamycin(mTOR)now representing a standard of care. The present paper is to review the current status of relevant clinical trials that were either recently completed or ongoing.(1)Though observation remains a standard of care following resection of localized disease, multiple trials are underway to assess VEGF-and mTOR-directed therapies in this setting.(2)While the preponderance of retrospective data favors cytoreductive nephrectomy in the context of targeted agents, prospective data to support this approach is still forthcoming.(3)The first-line management of mRCC may change substantially with multiple studies exploring vaccines, immune checkpoint inhibitors, and novel targeted agents currently underway. In general, prospective studies that will report within the next several years will be critical in defining the role of adjuvant therapy and cytoreductive nephrectomy.Over the same span of time, the current treatment paradigm for first-line therapy may evolve.Sumanta K.Pal Paulo Bergerot Robert A.Figlin 2015Asian Journal of Urology2015,2,1:1
Intra-protein interactions of SARS-CoV-2 and SARS:a bioinformatic analysis for plausible explanation regarding stability, divergency, and severity显示文摘The current nightmare for the whole world is COVID-19.The occurrence of concentrated pneumonia cases in Wuhan city,Hubei province of China, was first reported on December 30,2019.SARS-CoV first disclosed in 2002 but had not outspread worldwide. After 18 years,in 2020,it reemerged and outspread worldwide as SARS-CoV-2(COVID-19),as the most dangerous virus-creating disease in the world. Is it possible to create a favorable evolution within the short time(18 years)? If possible, then what are those properties or factors that are changed in SARS-CoV-2 to make it undefeated? What are the fundamental differences between SARS-CoV-2 and SARS?The study is one of the initiatives to find out all those queries. Here, four types of protein sequences from SARS-CoV-2 and SARS were retrieved from the database to study their physicochemical and structural properties. Results showed that charged residues are playing a pivotal role in SARS-CoV-2 evolution and contribute to the helix stabilization. The formation of the cyclic salt bridge and other intra-protein interactions specially network aromatic-aromatic interaction also play the crucial role in SAS-CoV-2.This comparative study will help to understand the evolution from SARS to SARS-CoV-2 and helpful in protein engineering.Debanjan Mitra Aditya K.Pal Pradeep Kr.Das Mohapatra 2022Systems Microbiology and Biomanufacturing2022,2,4:0
