Holocene vegetational and climatic variation in westerly-dominated areas of Central Asia inferred from the Sayram Lake in northern Xinjiang,China显示文摘Changes in the vegetation and climate of the westerly-dominated areas in Central Asia during the Holocene were interpreted using pollen-assemblages and charcoal data from a 300-cm-long sediment core of the Sayram Lake, northern Xinjiang.Accele-rator Mass Spectrometry(AMS) radiocarbon dating methods were applied to bulk organic matter of the samples.Artemisia spp./Chenopodiaceae ratios and results from principal component analysis were used to infer that the lake basin was dominated by desert vegetation before ca.9.6 cal.ka BP,which suggests a warm and dry climate in the early Holocene.Desert steppe/steppe expanded during 9.6-5.5 cal.ka BP,indicating a remarkable increase both in the precipitation and temperature during the mid-Holocene.Desert vegetation dominated between 6.5 and 5.5 cal.ka BP,marking an extreme warmer and drier interval. The steppe/meadow steppe recovered, and temperatures decreased from 5.5 cal.ka BP in the late Holocene,as indicated by the increased abundance of Artemisia and the development of meadows.Holocene temperatures and moisture variations in the Sayram Lake areas were similar to those of adjacent areas. This consistency implies that solar radiation was the main driving factor for regional temperature changes, and that the effect of temperature variations was significant on regional changes in humidity. The evolution of climate and environment in the Sayram Lake areas, which were characterized as dry in the early Holocene and relatively humid in the middle-late Holocene, are clearly different from those in monsoonal areas.Dry conditions in the early Holocene in the Sayram Lake areas were closely related to decreased water vapor advection. These conditions were a result of reduced westerly wind speeds and less evaporation upstream, which in turn were caused by seasonal changes in solar radiation superimposed by strong evaporation following warming and drying local climate.JIANG QingFeng JI JunFeng SHEN Ji Ryo MATSUMOTO TONG GuoBang QIAN Peng REN XueMei YAN DeZhi 2013Science China Earth Sciences2013,56,3:32
The earthquake-related disturbances in ionosphere and project of the first China seismo-electromagnetic satellite显示文摘Based on the case studies and statistical analysis of earthquake-related ionospheric disturbances mainly from DEMETER satellite,ground-based GPS and ionosounding data, this paper summarizes the statistical characteristics of earthquake-related ionospheric disturbances, including electromagnetic emissions, plasma perturbations and variation of energetic particle flux.According to the main results done by Chinese scientists, fusing with the existed study from global researches,seismo-ionospheric disturbances usually occurred a few days or hours before earthquake occurrence.Paralleling to these case studies,lithosphere-atmosphere-ionosphere (LAI) coupling mechanisms are checked and optimized.A thermo-electric model was proposed to explain the seismo-electromagnetic effects before earthquakes.A propagation model was put forward to explain the electromagnetic waves into the ionosphere.According to the requirement of earthquake prediction research,China seismo-electromagnetic satellite, the first space-based platform of Chinese earthquake stereoscopic observation system,is proposed and planned to launch at about the end of 2014.It focuses on checking the LAI model and distinguishing earthquake-related ionospheric disturbance. The preliminary design for the satellite will adopt CAST-2000 platform with eight payloads onboard. It is believed that the satellite will work together with the ground monitoring network to improve the capability to capture seismo-electromagnetic information, which is beneficial for earthquake monitoring and prediction researches.Xuhui Shen Xuemin Zhang Lanwei Wang Huaran Chen Yun Wu Shigeng Yuan Junfeng Shen Shufan Zhao Jiadong Qian Jianhai Ding 2011Earthquake Science2011,24,6:13
The role of sediment resuspension duration in releaseof PAHs显示文摘Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) are ubiquitous environmental pollutants. Due to their low water solubility and high hydrophobicity, PAHs are rapidly sorbed onto particles and subsequently deposit in sediments once introduced into aquatic environment. In such a way, sediments become a huge sink for PAHs. During sediment resuspension, the potential exists for PAHs to be released from sediments into water. Sediment resuspension plays an important role in the transportation and fate of PAHs in the aquatic environment. In this study, release behavior of PAHs on Yangtze River sediment during resuspension was investigated using a particle entrainment simulator (PES). The role of re- suspension duration on release of 16 PAHs was measured by resuspending sediment for 12 h at 0.2 and 0.5 N/m2, respectively. Results indicated that PAH concentrations in TSS increase over time with more increase of phenanthrene and 4-ring PAHs. Comparing with 0.2 N/m2 (30%), ∑PAHs concentra- tions in TSS demonstrated remarkable increase during 0.5 N/m2 resuspension (37%). Dissolved PAH concentrations increased throughout the duration with more increase of 2―3 ring PAHs (50%―88%). Dissolved PAH concentrations showed remarkable increase during 0.5 N/m2 resuspension (50%). Moreover, PAH concentrations in overlying water throughout the duration of resuspension were higher than toxic effects threshold values in drinking water developed by WHO, which may cause toxic effect on ecosystem.FENG JingLan SHEN ZhenYao NIU JunFeng YANG ZhiFeng 2008Chinese Science Bulletin2008,53,18:9
The electron structure and photocatalytic activity of Ti(IV) doped Bi_2O_3显示文摘Density functional theory (DFT) plays a significant role in the development of visible light responsive photocatalysts.Based on the first-principles plane-wave ultrasoft pseudopotential (USPP) method, the crystal structures of α,β,γ,and δ-Bi2O3 were optimally calculated for the total density of states (TDOS) and the partial density of states (PDOS) of Bi,O atoms. The calculation for Ti(IV) doped Bi2O3 supercell was carried out.The effects of Ti(IV)-doping on the electron structures and light absorption properties of various Bi2O3 were analyzed. The results showed that Ti 3d orbital appeared in the forbidden band of Bi2O3 and hybridized with O 2p,Bi 6p orbitals. The narrowed band gap (Eg) and red-shift of light absorption edge are responsible for the enhanced photocatalytic activity of Bi2O3.The β-Bi2O3 and Ti-doped β-Bi2O3 were prepared by a hydrothermal synthesis method. The improvement of the photocatalytic activity of Bi2O3 has also been verified by the characteristics of the UV-vis diffuse reflection spectrum and the experimental evaluation of the photocatalytic degradation of crystal violet in aqueous solution.YIN LiFeng NIU JunFeng SHEN ZhenYao SUN Ying 2011Science China Chemistry2011,54,1:7
Environmental changes during the past 13500 cal. a BP deduced from lacustrine sediment records of Lake Qinghai, China显示文摘A 475-cm long sediment core (QH-2005) from Lake Qinghai was used to carry out multi-proxy analysis of δ18O and body length of ostracod valves and redness and grain size of sediments, in order to reconstruct environ-mental changes during the past 13500 cal. a BP. The age model was based on 6 14C dates for bulk orgnic carbon (BOC) and 2 14C dates for lignin. The lignin 14C dates are apparently younger than the corresponding layers' BOC 14C dates, indicating that the reservoir age varied from 728 to 1222 a since the Late Glacial and from 2390 to 2490 a immediately before the pre-bomb era. Hence, the 14C age model for Core QH-2005 was corrected by the changing reservoir age. Ostracod δ18O values were primarily related to dilution and evaporative enrichment of the lake water. The reconstructed salinity based on ostracod body length coincides well with ostracod δ18O values. High redness and mean grain size (MZ) values indicate increased riverine supply to Lake Qinghai associated with increasing monsoon rainfall. Multi-proxy results show that climate during 13500-10900 cal. a BP was relatively cold and dry with fre-quent short-term fluctuations; a warm and wet climate began at about 10900 cal. a BP and culminated around 6500 cal. a BP as a result of monsoon strengthening; the climate became cold and dry afterwards and has remained rela-tively stable since 3400 cal. a BP. Our data also reveal short-term (millennial/centennial timescales) climatic fluctua-tions including: Younger Dryas events, ice-rafting events 8 and 1 (by ~11000 cal. a BP and ~1600 cal. a BP respec-tively), 8200 cal. a BP cold event, Little Ice Age and the Medieval Warm Period.WANG Yong SHEN Ji XU Xingna LIU Xingqi SIROCKO Frank ZHANG Enlou JI Junfeng 2011Chinese Journal Of Geochemistry2011,30,4:6
Geochemistry of Pyrite from the Gangcha Gold Deposit, West Qinling Orogen, China: Implications for Ore Genesis显示文摘The Gangcha gold deposit was discovered in 2011 in the Xiahe-Hezuo region, West Qinling Orogen, China. Five types of pyrite have been identified in the ore according to the detailed mineral paragenetic studies. Geochemical data are presented for type I pyrite(py1) rim-core zonation and for the different types of pyrite based on in-situ laser ablation inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry(LA-ICP-MS) and electron probe microanalysis(EPMA). The results show that pyrites are characterized with heterogeneous Au concentrations, which indicate that Au occurs mainly as micro-or nano-particle native inclusions. Time-resolved depth profiles demonstrate that As, Co and Ni occur as solid solutions in pyrite, whereas Cu, Pb, Zn and Ag occur mainly as inclusions. Trace element concentrations differ between rims and cores in py1, and the differences also exist within different pyrite types. These differences indicate complex chemical evolution of the ore-forming fluids, and the overall geology, geochronology, and stable isotope and pyrite data suggest that the ore-forming fluids were closely linked to magmatic activity during the Triassic Period in West Qinling orogenic belt.NIE Xiao SHEN Junfeng LIU Haiming DU Baisong WANG Shuhao LI Jie XU Liwei WANG Ran 2017Acta Geologica Sinica(English Edition)2017,91,6:5
A NEW ALGORITHM OF RELAXATION METHOD FOR PARTICLE ANALYSIS FROM FORWARD SCATTERED LIGHT显示文摘A new algorithm of the relaxation method is developed for the inversion of forward scattered light to obtain the size distribution of spherical particles. Numerical tests are performed for a laser particle analyzer using the Mie theory and the diffraction approximation. The algorithm efficiency, in the presence of experimental noises, is studied. The results show that the technique is fast in convergence, stable against random noise and insensitive to the distribution of particles and the initial trial distribution.Jianqi Shen Mingxu Su Junfeng Li 2006China Particuology2006,4,1:4
Paleosandstorm characteristics and lake evolution history deduced from investigation on lacustrine sediments——The case of Hongjiannao Lake, Shaanxi Province显示文摘Sediment cores from desert lakes serve as good records of the frequency and intensity of sandstorms in his- tory. By multi-proxy analysis of grain-size, magnetic suscep- tibility, TOC and Rb/Sr ratio, the paleosandstorm character- istics and lake evolution history in Yulin Area for the past 80 years. are discussed in this article. It is revealed that Hong- jiannao Lake formed in about 1928 A.D. and in its initial stage sandstorms were prevalent with three extremes taking place in 1936 A.D., 1939 A.D. and 1941 A.D.. During the ex- pansion period of 1952―1960 A.D., inflow waters to the lake increased sharply and a lot more weathered materials were carried into the lake. The frequency and intensity of sand- storms have reduced a lot since 1960s and the “double peaks” feature of the grain-size frequency curve has changed into the “single peak” feature. Study on the catchment ecol- ogy of the lake shows that the occurrence of sandstorms has been effectively restrained by the forest plantation and water and soil conservation.SHEN Ji WANG Yong YANG Xiangdong ZHANG Enlou YANG Bao JI Junfeng 2005Chinese Science Bulletin2005,50,20:3

Structure variety and its effects on biological activity of tea polysaccharides显示文摘Tea polysaccharides(TPSs),one of the major bioactive ingredients in tea, have been widely studied due to their variety of biological activities, including antioxidant, cancer prevention,hypoglycemia,anti-fatigue,anti-coagulant,anti-obesity and immunomodulatory effect. The biological effectiveness of TPSs has direct relation with their structures such as monosaccharide composition, molecular weight, glycosidic linkages, conformation and others, which can be influenced by tea materials, processing methods, extraction and purification procedures among others.Comparing to the study of tea polyphenols, the exploration of TPSs in structural elucidation and biofunctionality is very preliminary.Yet several factors affecting the structural change of TPSs have been studied and identified.Consequently, the variation of some TPS biological activity brought by the change of TPS structures has been evaluated and preliminary correlation of structure activity relationship of TPSs has been performed. Therefore, this review aims to serve as a summary research report regarding the influencing factors on TPSs structures and consequential effects on the biological activities of TPSs.We hope to provide updated information and systematic references for future study and functional food development of TPSs.Ting Hu Peng Wu Jianfeng Zhan Weixin Wang Junfeng Shen Meiyan Wang Chi-Tang Ho Shiming Li 2022Food Science and Human Wellness2022,11,3:2

The thermo-electric effect of magnetite and the mechanism of geo-electric abnormalities during earthquakes显示文摘The thermo-electric coefficients of twenty-six magnetite samples, formed either by magmatism or metamorphism, were tested by the thermo-electric instrument BHET—06.Results showed that the coefficient is of a constant value of about -0.05 mV/℃.It is emphasized that because every magnetite grain was tested randomly, the coefficient is independent of the crystallographic direction. This fact means the thermal voltage generated from a single magnetite crystal can be accumulated, and as a result a new thermo-electric field can arise when a gradient thermal field exists and is active within the earth's crust.Because magnetite is widespread in the earth's crust(generally appearing more in the middle-lower crust),there is more-than-random probability that the additional thermo-electric field can be generated when certain thermal conditions are fulfilled. We,therefore, used the thermo-electric effect of magnetite to study the mechanism responsible for the presence of abnormal geo-electric fields during earthquake formation and occurrence, because gradient thermal fields always exist before earthquakes. The possible presence of additional thermo-electric fields was calculated under theoretical seismological conditions, using the following calcu-lation formula:E= - 0.159(σ×△T×φ×ρ_2×[(h^2-2x^2)cosα+ 3hxsinα]/ρ_1(h^2 +x^2)^(5/2)).In the above formula,σis thermo-electric coefficient of magnetite,△T is the temperature difference acting on it,φis a sectional area on a block of magnetite vertically perpendicular to the direction of the thermal current.ρ_1 andρ_2 are the respective resistivities of magnetite and the crust, and h,α,and x,respectively,h is the depth of embedded magnetite block,αmeans the angle created by the horizontal line and ligature of the two poles of magnetite block, and x is the distance from observation point to projective center point of the magnetite block on earth surface.According to simulations calculated with this formula, additional thermo-electric field intensity may reach as high as n to n×10~2 mV/km.This field is strong enough to cause obvious anomalies in the background geo-electric field, and can be easy probed by earthquake monitoring equipment. Therefore,we hypothesize that geo-electric abnormalities which occur during earthquakes may be caused by the thermo-electric effect of magnetite.Junfeng Shen Xuhui Shen Qian Liu Na Ying 2010Geoscience Frontiers2010,1,1:2

Characteristics of heavy metal accumulation on fly ash-and sewage sludge-amended calcific soil显示文摘Land disposal of fly ash(FA)and sewage sludge(SS)is a major problem due largely to their potentially harmful constituents. In this paper,a potting experiment was performed to evaluate the effects on the plant growth and to discuss in particular the potential hazard to soils and plants according to the characteristics of heavy metal accumulation and migration when FA and SS are used as the amendments of calcific soil in a limestone mining area. The results showed that the application of FA-SS mixture is capable of accelerating the growth of plants and improving the biomass production at either 1:1 or 1:2 FA-SS mixture:soil(w/w).The highest yields were obtained at 1:1(w/w)mixing ratio. When compared with the Element Background Values of Soils in China, the analysis on heavy metals indicated that the contents of Pb,Cr,Hg,Cd,As,Ni,Cu and Zn in the amended soils came up to the second-class environmental quality standards, only Hg and Cd showed significant accumulation. At the same time, though the metal concentrations in roots were higher than those for the control, the concentrations except Cu,Zn in shoots were lower. And all the heavy metal contents in the plants were substantially lower than the toxicity limits. The results indicated that the combined use of FA and SS at a rational rate of application should pose no danger to both soil and food chain based on the characteristics of the FS and SS,heavy metals and calcific soil.NIU Huapeng LI Shengrong SHEN Junfeng YAO Meijuan 2012Chinese Journal Of Geochemistry2012,31,2:1
