Spatial gradient distributions of thermal shock-induced damage to granite显示文摘In this study,we attempted to investigate the spatial gradient distributions of thermal shock-induced damage to granite with respect to associated deterioration mechanisms.First, thermal shock experiments were conducted on granite specimens by slowly preheating the specimens to high temperatures, followed by rapid cooling in tap water. Then, the spatial gradient distributions of thermal shock-induced damage were investigated by computed tomography(CT)and image analysis techniques. Finally, the influence of the preheating temperature on the spatial gradients of the damage was discussed. The results show that the thermal shock induced by rapid cooling can cause more damage to granite than that induced by slow cooling. The thermal shock induced by rapid cooling can cause spatial gradient distributions of the damage to granite. The damage near the specimen surface was at a maximum, while the damage inside the specimen was at a minimum. In addition, the preheating temperature can significantly influence the spatial gradient distributions of the thermal shock-induced damage. The spatial gradient distribution of damage increased as the preheating temperature increased and then decreased significantly over 600C.When the preheating temperature was sufficiently high(e.g.800C),the gradient can be ignored. | Lifeng Fan Jingwei Gao Xiuli Du Zhijun Wu | 2020 | Journal of Rock Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering2020,12,5: | 11
Design and baseline data of a populationbased metabonomics study of eye diseases in eastern China: the Yueqing Ocular Diseases Investigation显示文摘Background:China is undergoing a massive transition toward an urban and industrial economy. These changes will restructure the demographics and economy which will eventually influence the future patterns of disease. The risk factors of vision-impairing eye diseases remain ambiguous and poorly understood.Metabolomics is an ideal tool to understand and shed light on the ocular disease mechanisms for earlier treatment. This article aims to describe the design, methodology and baseline data of the Yueqing Ocular Diseases Investigation(YODI),a developed county population-based study to determine the prevalence and primary causes of visual impairment;also with metabonomics analysis we aimed to identify, predict and suggest some preventive biomarkers that cause blindness. Methods:A population-based,cross-sectional study.Randomized clustering sampling was used to identify adults aged 50 years and older in Xiangyang Town,Yueqing county-level City. The interviews covered demographic, behavioral, ocular risk factors and mental health state. The ocular examination included visual acuity, autorefraction, intraocular pressure, anterior and posterior segment examinations, fundus photography, retinal tomography and angiography, and visual field testing.Anthropometric measurements included height and weight, waist and hip circumference, blood pressure, pulse rate, electrocardiogram, and abdominal ultrasound scan.A venous blood sample was collected for laboratory tests and metabonomics studies. Results:Of the 5319 individuals recruited for the YODI,4769(89.7%)subjects were enrolled for analyses. The median age was 62.0 years, and 45.6%were male. The educational level of illiteracy or semi-illiteracy,primary,middle and high school or above was 29.8%,45.5%,20.1%,and 3.3%,respectively.Majority of the participants were female, younger, and less educated when compared with nonparticipants. The average body mass index and waist-hip ratios were 24.4±3.4 kg/m^(2) and 0.9±0.1 respectively.Blood sample collection reached a sample size of 1909(479 from subjects with selfreported diabetes and 1430 from one-third of the 4290 subjects without self-reported diabetes). Conclusions:The YODI provides population-based data with a high response rate(89.7%)on the prevalence and primary causes of major vision-impairing eye diseases in developed county areas in eastern China.Metabonomics analysis from YODI will provide further association of metabolic characteristics with the visual impairment eye diseases. The risk prediction model could be created and has the potential to be generalized to developed eastern areas in China for prevention. | Yuxuan Deng Yuanbo Liang Sigeng Lin Liang Wen Jin Li Yue Zhou Meixiao Shen Jingwei Zheng Kemi Feng Yanting Sun Kwapong Willaim Robert Jia Qu Fan Lu | 2020 | Eye and Vision2020,7,1: | 4
Numerical simulation of fire development in a single compartment based on cone calorimeter experiments显示文摘The burning characteristics of several kinds of wood and polyurethane materials have been studied using cone calorimeter (CONE2A). A new and simple ignition criterion, heat release rate model and mass loss rate model are proposed based on experiments. Combined with these models, the zone-model of fire can be used to predict fire development in a single compartment according to the species of combustibles, their quantities and distribution. Calculated results show that this method is simple and feasible. | JI Jingwei, CHENG Yuanping, YANG Lizhong and FAN Weicheng( State Key Laboratory of Fire Science, University of Science and Technology of China, Hefei 230026, China College of Energy Science and Engineering, China University of Mining and Technology, Xuzhou 221008, China) | 2002 | Progress in Natural Science:Materials International2002,12,5: | 3
Subdivision and age of the Yanchang Formation and the Middle/Upper Triassic boundary in Ordos Basin, North China显示文摘The Yanchang Formation is extensively developed in the Ordos Basin and its surrounding regions. As one of the best terrestrial Triassic sequences in China and the major oil-gas bearing formations in the Ordos Basin, its age determination and stratigraphic assignment are important in geological survey and oil-gas exploration. It had been attributed to the Late Triassic and regarded as the typical representative of the Upper Triassic in northern China for a long time, although some scholars had already proposed that the lower part of this formation should be of the Middle Triassic age in the mid-late 20 th century. In this paper, we suggest that the lower and middle parts of the Yanchang Formation should be of the Ladinian and the bottom possibly belongs to the late Anisian of the Middle Triassic, mainly based on new fossils found in it and high resolution radiometric dating results. The main source rocks, namely the oil shales and mudstones of the Chang-7, are of the Ladinian Age. The upper part of the Yanchang Formation, namely the Chang-6 and the above parts, belongs to the Late Triassic. The uppermost of the Triassic is missed in most parts of the Ordos Basin. The Middle-Upper Triassic Series boundary lies in the Yanchang Formation, equivalent to the boundary between Chang-7 and Chang-6. The Ladinian is an important palaeoenvironmental turning point in the Ordos Basin. Palaeoenvironmental changes in the basin are coincidence with that of the Sichuan Basin and the main tectonic movement of the Qinling Mountains. It indicates that tectonic activities of the Qinling Mountains are related to the big palaeoenvironmental changes in both the Ordos and Sichuan Basins, which are caused by the same structural dynamic system during the Ladinian. | Shenghui DENG Yuanzheng LU Zhong LUO Ru FAN Xin LI Yi ZHAO Xueying MA Rukai ZHU Jingwei CUI | 2018 | Science China Earth Sciences2018,61,10: | 2
Risk stratification in symptomatic intracranial atherosclerotic disease with conventional vascular risk factors and cerebral haemodynamics显示文摘Background and purpose Symptomatic intracranial atherosclerotic stenosis(sICAS)is associated with a considerable risk of recurrent stroke despite contemporarily optimal medical treatment.Severity of luminal stenosis in sICAS and its haemodynamic significance quantified with computational fluid dynamics(CFD)models were associated with the risk of stroke recurrence. We aimed to develop and compare stroke risk prediction nomograms in sICAS,based on vascular risk factors and these metrics. Methods Patients with 50%-99%sICAS confirmed in CT angiography(CTA)were enrolled.Conventional vascular risk factors were collected.Severity of luminal stenosis in sICAS was dichotomised as moderate(50%-69%)and severe(70%-99%).Translesional pressure ratio(PR)and wall shear stress ratio(WSSR)were quantified via CTA-based CFD modelling;the haemodynamic status of sICAS was classified as normal(normal PR&WSSR),intermediate(otherwise)and abnormal(abnormal PR&WSSR).All patients received guideline-recommended medical treatment. We developed and compared performance of nomograms composed of these variables and independent predictors identified in multivariate logistic regression,in predicting the primary outcome, recurrent ischaemic stroke in the same territory(SIT)within 1 year. Results Among 245 sICAS patients,20(8.2%)had SIT.The D2H2A nomogram, incorporating diabetes, dyslipidaemia, haemodynamic status of sICAS,hypertension and age≥50 years, showed good calibration(P for Hosmer-Lemeshow test=0.560)and discrimination(C-statistic 0.73,95%CI 0.60 to 0.85).It also had better performance in risk reclassification and provided larger net benefits in decision curve analysis, compared with nomograms composed of conventional vascular risk factors only, and plus the severity of luminal stenosis in sICAS.Sensitivity analysis in patients with anterior-circulation sICAS showed similar results. Conclusions The D2H2A nomogram, incorporating conventional vascular risk factors and the haemodynamic significance of sICAS as assessed in CFD models, could be a useful tool to stratify sICAS patients for the risk of recurrent stroke under contemporarily optimal medical treatment. | Xuan Tian Hui Fang Linfang Lan Hing Lung Ip Jill Abrigo Haipeng Liu Lina Zheng Florence S Y Fan Sze Ho Ma Bonaventure Ip Bo Song Yuming Xu Jingwei Li Bing Zhang Yun Xu Yannie O Y Soo Vincent Mok Ka Sing Wong Thomas W Leung Xinyi Leng | 2023 | Stroke & Vascular Neurology2023,8,1: | 2

Guidelines for navigation-assisted spine surgery显示文摘Spinal surgery is a technically demanding and challenging procedure because of the complicated anatomical structures of the spine and its proximity to several important tissues.Surgical landmarks and fluoroscopy have been used for pedicle screw insertion but are found to produce inaccuracies in placement.Improving the safety and accuracy of spinal surgery has increasingly become a clinical concern.Computerassisted navigation is an extension and application of precision medicine in orthopaedic surgery and has significantly improved the accuracy of spinal surgery. However,no clinical guidelines have been published for this relatively new and fast-growing technique, thus potentially limiting its adoption. In accordance with the consensus of consultant specialists, literature reviews, and our local experience, these guidelines include the basic concepts of the navigation system, workflow of navigation-assisted spinal surgery, some common pitfalls, and recommended solutions. This work helps to standardize navigation-assisted spinal surgery, improve its clinical efficiency and precision, and shorten the clinical learning curve. | Wei Tian Bo Liu Da He Yajun Liu Xiaoguang Han Jingwei Zhao Mingxing Fan | 2020 | Frontiers of Medicine2020,14,4: | 1

The pitch-catch nonlinear ultrasonic imaging techniques for structural health monitoring显示文摘Nonlinear ultrasonic imaging techniques in pulse-echo configuration have recently shown their potential to allow the effective separation of nonlinear and linear features in a nonlinear image. In this study, two ultrasonic phased arrays are implemented to produce an image of elastic nonlinearity through the parallel-sequential subtraction of the coherently scattered components in the through-transmission acoustic field at the transmission or subharmonic frequency. In parallel mode,a physical focus at each pixel is achieved by firing the transmitters with a predefined delay law.In sequential mode, each transmitter is fired in sequence and all the receivers are employed to capture the data simultaneously. This full matrix captured data can be post-processed and focused synthetically at the target area. The images of parallel focusing and sequential focusing are expected to be linearly identical and hence any differences remained on the subtracted image can be related to the nonlinearities arising from the defects. Therefore, the imaging metric here is defined as the difference between parallel and sequentially focused amplitudes obtained from forward coherently scattered fields at each target point.Additionally, the negative influences due to the instrumentation nonlinearities are investigated by studying the remaining relative phase and amplitude at undamaged pixels.A compensation method is implemented to suppress these noises, significantly enhancing the selectivity of nonlinear scattering features. The proposed techniques are then implemented to monitor fatigue crack growth in order to explore the capability of these methods as measures of elastic nonlinearity induced by different sizes of small closed cracks. The promising results suggest that nonlinear imaging can be used to monitor crack growth and improve the detectability at early stages. | CHENG JingWei DRINKWATER Bruce W. | 17 | Effects of long-term fast charging on a layered cathode for lithium-ion batteries显示文摘Fast charging, which aims to shorten recharge times to 10–15 min, is crucial for electric vehicles(EVs),but battery capacity usually decays rapidly if batteries are charged under such severe conditions.Revealing the failure mechanism is a prerequisite to improving the charging performance of lithium(Li)-ion batteries. Previous studies have focused less on cathode materials while also mostly focusing on their early changes. Thus, the cumulative effect of long-term fast charging on cathode materials has not been fully studied. Here, we study the changes in a layered cathode material during 1000 cycles of 6 C charging based on 1.6 Ah LiCoO_(2)/graphite pouch cells. Postmortem analysis reveals that the surface structure, charge transfer resistance and Li-ion diffusion coefficient of the cathode degenerate during repeated fast charging, causing a large increase in polarization. This polarization-induced poor utilization of the Li inventory is an important reason for the rapid capacity fading of batteries. These findings deepen the understanding of the aging mechanism for cells undergoing fast charging and can be used as benchmarks for the future development of high-capacity, fast-charging layered cathode materials. | Jingwei Hu Fengsong Fan Qian Zhang Shengwen Zhong Quanxin Ma | 2022 | Journal of Energy Chemistry2022,31,4: | 1
