1Combining computer vision and deep learning to enable ultra-scale aerial phenotyping and precision agriculture:A case study of lettuce production显示文摘Aerial imagery is regularly used by crop researchers,growers and farmers to monitor crops during the growing season.To extract meaningful information from large-scale aerial images collected from the field,high-throughput phenotypic analysis solutions are required,which not only produce high-quality measures of key crop traits,but also support professionals to make prompt and reliable crop management decisions.Here,we report AirSurf,an automated and open-source analytic platform that combines modern computer vision,up-to-date machine learning,and modular software engineering in order to measure yield-related phenotypes from ultra-large aerial imagery.To quantify millions of in-field lettuces acquired by fixed-wing light aircrafts equipped with normalised difference vegetation index(NDVI)sensors,we customised AirSurf by combining computer vision algorithms and a deep-learning classifier trained with over 100,000 labelled lettuce signals.The tailored platform,AirSurf-Lettuce,is capable of scoring and categorising iceberg lettuces with high accuracy(>98%).Furthermore,novel analysis functions have been developed to map lettuce size distribution across the field,based on which associated global positioning system(GPS)tagged harvest regions have been identified to enable growers and farmers to conduct precision agricultural practises in order to improve the actual yield as well as crop marketability before the harvest.Alan Bauer Aaron George Bostrom Joshua Ball Christopher Applegate Tao Cheng Stephen Laycock Sergio Moreno Rojas Jacob Kirwan Ji Zhou 2019Horticulture Research2019,6,1:14

13Evaluation of nutrient stoichiometric relationships among ecosystem compartments of a subtropical treatment wetland. Do we have “Redfield wetlands”?显示文摘Background:Evaluation of carbon(C),nitrogen(N),and phosphorus(P)ratios in aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems can advance our understanding of biological processes,nutrient cycling,and the fate of organic matter(OM)in these ecosystems.Eutrophication of aquatic ecosystems can change the accumulation and decomposition of OM which can alter biogeochemical cycling and alter the base of the aquatic food web.This study investigated nutrient stoichiometry within and among wetland ecosystem compartments(i.e.,water column,flocculent,soil,and aboveground vegetation biomass)of two subtropical treatment wetlands with distinct vegetation communities.Two flow-ways(FWs)within the network of Everglades Stormwater Treatment Areas in south Florida(USA)were selected for this study.We evaluated nutrient stoichiometry of these to understand biogeochemical cycling and controls of nutrient removal in a treatment wetland within an ecological stoichiometry context.Results:This study demonstrates that C,N,and P stoichiometry can be highly variable among ecosystem compartments and between FWs.Power law slopes of C,N,and P within surface water floc,soil,and vegetation were significantly different between and along FWs.Conclusions:Assessment of wetland nutrient stoichiometry between and within ecosystem compartments suggests unconstrained stoichiometry related to P that conforms with the notion of P limitation in the ecosystem.Differences in N:P ratios between floc and soil suggest different pathways of organic nutrient accumulation and retention between FWs.Surface nutrient stoichiometry was highly variable and decoupled(or close to decoupled as indicated by<25%explained variation between parameters),in particular with respect to P.We hypothesize that decoupling may be the imprint of variability in inflow nutrient stoichiometry.However,despite active biogeochemical cycles that could act to restore nutrient stoichiometry along the FW,there was little evidence that such balancing occurred,as the degree of stochiometric decoupling in the water column did change with distance downstream.This information is only the beginning of a larger journey to understand stoichiometric processes within wetland ecosystems and how they relate to ecosystem function.Paul Julian II Stefan Gerber Rupesh K.Bhomia Jill King Todd Z.Osborne Alan L.Wright Matthew Powers Jacob Dombrowski 2019Ecological Processes2019,8,1:1

15Blueberry and cranberry pangenomes as a resource for future genetic studies and breeding efforts显示文摘Domestication of cranberry and blueberry began in the United States in the early 1800s and 1900s,respectively,and in part owing to their f lavors and health-promoting benefits are now cultivated and consumed worldwide.The industry continues to face a wide variety of production challenges(e.g.disease pressures),as well as a demand for higher-yielding cultivars with improved fruit quality characteristics.Unfortunately,molecular tools to help guide breeding efforts for these species have been relatively limited compared with those for other high-value crops.Here,we describe the construction and analysis of the first pangenome for both blueberry and cranberry.Our analysis of these pangenomes revealed both crops exhibit great genetic diversity,including the presence-absence variation of 48.4%genes in highbush blueberry and 47.0%genes in cranberry.Auxiliary genes,those not shared by all cultivars,are significantly enriched with molecular functions associated with disease resistance and the biosynthesis of specialized metabolites,including compounds previously associated with improving fruit quality traits.The discovery of thousands of genes,not present in the previous reference genomes for blueberry and cranberry,will serve as the basis of future research and as potential targets for future breeding efforts.The pangenome,as a multiple-sequence alignment,as well as individual annotated genomes,are publicly available for analysis on the Genome Database for Vaccinium-a curated and integrated web-based relational database.Lastly,the core-gene predictions from the pangenomes will serve useful to develop a community genotyping platform to guide future molecular breeding efforts across the family.Alan E.Yocca Adrian Platts Elizabeth Alger Scott Teresi Molla F.Mengist Juliana Benevenuto Luis Felipe V.Ferrão MacKenzie Jacobs Michal Babinski Maria Magallanes-Lundback Philipp Bayer Agnieszka Golicz Jodi L.Humann Dorrie Main Richard V.Espley David Chagné Nick W.Albert Sara Montanari Nicholi Vorsa James Polashock Luis Díaz-Garcia Juan Zalapa Nahla V.Bassil Patricio R.Munoz Massimo Iorizzo Patrick P.Edger 2023Horticulture Research2023,10,11:0
