| 1 | Biliary brush cytology:Factors associated with positive yields on biliary brush cytology显示文摘AIM: To evaluate the yield of brushing biliary strictures and the factors associated with a positive result in biliary strictures. METHODS: Data on all consecutive patients (01/02 -10/05) who were identified to have a biliary stricture and who underwent biliary brush cytology were collected. The yield of positive biliary brush cytology was evaluated and compared to results with the gold standard for diagnosis (defi ned as either defi nitive surgical histology or clinical course). Additionally,associated factors of positive results including stricture location,gender,age,mass size,length of stricture,and dilatation prior to brushing cytology were assessed. RESULTS: From 199 patients who had brushing cytology samples (10 patients were excluded due to lack of gold standard diagnosis),77 patients had positive brushing cytology (yield 41%). Variables associated with positive cytology brushing on initial endoscopic retrograde cholangiography were age 1.02 (1.00-1.05),mass size > 1 cm 2.22 (1.01-4.89) and length of stricture > 1 cm 3.49 (1.18-10.2). The sensitivity of biliary brushing was 61%,its specifi city 98%,the positive predictive value reached 99%,and the negative predictive value was 57%. CONCLUSION: Our results revealed a 41% positive yield from brushing cytology. The sensitivity of biliary brushing cytology in our center was 61% and the specif icity was 98%. | 2 | Improving methane storage on wet activated carbons at various amounts of water显示文摘Different mesoporous activated carbons were prepared by both chemical and physical activation processes and were examined for methane uptake in the presence of water.Methane isotherms were obtained at wet condition by wetting samples with water at mass ratio of water/carbon(R) close to 1.0.To compare,the amount of methane storage were also measured at dry situation.The maximum amount of methane stored was attained as 237 V/V at R=1.0 by hydrate formation at the methane critical pressure.In the next step,mass ratios of water/carbon were changed to investigate various amount of water for methane storage enhancement.Two other values of mass ratio of water/carbon(R=0.8 and 1.4) were selected and methane isotherms were obtained at the same conditions.Maximum values of 210 and 248 V/V were reached for methane storage,respectively.It was also observed that,in the pressure range lower than hydrate pressure,by increasing water ratio the hydrate formation pressure was decreased and methane uptake was much less than that of dry condition due to pore filling by water. | MOHAMMAD JABER DARABI MAHBOUB ALI AHMADPOUR HAMED RASHIDI | 2012 | 燃料化学学报2012,40,4: | 7 |
| 3 | Aqueous suspension of anise “Pimpinella anisum” protects rats against chemically induced gastric ulcers显示文摘AIM: To substantiate the claims of Unani and Arabian traditional medicine practitioners on the gastroprotective potential effect of a popular spice anise, 'Pimpinella anisum L.' on experimentally-induced gastric ulceration and secretion in rats. METHODS: Acute gastric ulceration in rats was produced by various noxious chemicals including 80% ethanol, 0.2 mol/L NaOH, 25% NaCl and indomethacin. Anti-secretory studies were undertaken using pylorus- ligated Shay rat technique. Levels of gastric non-protein sulfhydryls (NP-SH) and wall mucus were estimated and gastric tissue was also examined histologically. Anise aqueous suspension was used in two doses (250 and 500 mg/kg body weight) in all experiments. RESULTS: Anise significantly inhibited gastric mu- cosal damage induced by necrotizing agents and indomethacin. The anti-ulcer effect was further confirmed histologically. In pylorus-ligated Shay rats, anise suspension significantly reduced the basal gastric acid secretion, acidity and completely inhibited the rumenal ulceration. On the other hand, the suspension significantly replenished ethanol-induced depleted levels of gastric mucosal NP-SH and gastric wall mucus concentration. CONCLUSION: Anise aqueous suspension possesses significant cytoprotective and anti-ulcer activities against experimentally-induced gastric lesions. | 4 | Cryopreservation for delayed circulating tumor cell isolation is a valid strategy for prognostic association of circulating tumor cells in gastroesophageal cancer显示文摘AIM To demonstrate the feasibility of cryopreservation of peripheral blood mononuclear cells(PBMCs) for prognostic circulating tumor cell(CTC) detection in gastroesophageal cancer.METHODS Using 7.5 m L blood samples collected in EDTA tubes from patients with gastroesopheagal adenocarcinoma, CTCs were isolated by epithelial cell adhesion molecule based immunomagnetic capture using the Iso Flux platform. Paired specimens taken during the same blood draw(n = 15) were used to compare number of CTCs isolated from fresh and cryopreserved PBMCs. Blood samples were processed within 24 h to recover the PBMC fraction, with PBMCs used for fresh analysis immediately processed for CTC isolation. Cryopreservation of PBMCs lasted from 2 wk to 25.2 mo(median 14.6 mo). CTCs isolated from pre-treatment cryopreserved PBMCs(n = 43) were examined for associations with clinicopathological variables and survival outcomes.RESULTS While there was a significant trend to a decrease in CTC numbers associated with cryopreserved specimens(mean number of CTCs 34.4 vs 51.5, P = 0.04), this was predominately in samples with a total CTC count of > 50, with low CTC count samples less affected(P = 0.06). There was no significant association between the duration of cryopreservation and number of CTCs. In cryopreserved PBMCs from patient samples prior to treatment, a high CTC count(> 17) was associated with poorer overall survival(OS)(n = 43, HR = 4.4, 95%CI: 1.7-11.7, P = 0.0013). In multivariate analysis, after controlling for sex, age, stage, ECOG performance status, and primary tumor location, a high CTC count remained significantly associated with a poorer OS(HR = 3.7, 95%CI: 1.2-12.4, P = 0.03). | 5 | Multi-modality imaging of cardiac amyloidosis: Contemporary update显示文摘Cardiac amyloidosis is a heterogeneous and challenging diagnostic disease with poor prognosis that is now being altered by introduction of new therapies.Echocardiography remains the first-line imaging tool, and when disease is suspected on echocardiography, cardiac magnetic resonance imaging and nuclear imaging play critical roles in the non-invasive diagnosis and evaluation of cardiac amyloidosis. Advances in multi-modality cardiac imaging allowing earlier diagnosis and initiation of novel therapies have significantly improved the outcomes in these patients. Cardiac imaging also plays important roles in the risk stratification of patients presenting with cardiac amyloidosis. | 6 | Rural E-marketing in Iran;Modeling villagers’ intention and clustering rural regions显示文摘The rural population of Iran has a serious need for ICT application to launch e-marketing in order to increase employment.The important point is that most villagers are small holders,and an e-marketing model should be proposed which is adopted and can be operationalized.Therefore,the purpose of the present study was modeling villagers’intention to adopt e-marketing and performing rural provincial clustering.Data were collected from approximately 1000 villages with ICToffices in all provinces.The research model was designed in a way that the Theory of Planned Behavior(TPB)was developed,and Rural Economy Geography was added as background.Therefore,the Geographic Model of Planned Behavior(GeoTPB)was proposed.The innovation of the current research is in using a combined model(behavioral and geographical)to adopt rural technology,which has presented a better understanding of adoption.Additionally,a two-stage structural equation modeling approach was used,which means that since the model was large and complicated,in the first stage,the non-significant paths were removed,and in the second stage,the model was simplified and proposed with the significant paths.This model predicted 76%of villagers’intention to adopt e-marketing.Also,the K-means clustering showed that based on economic and behavioral factors,the rural districts of Iran constituted 6 clusters.The interesting point was that the southern and southeastern provinces of Iran,which have been reported by the statistics center to be the less developed areas,were found to be the superior cluster in e-marketing adoption in the results of the current research.Therefore,the villages of Sistan and Baluchestan and Hormozgan provinces will be suitable as pilot provinces for e-marketing implementation.Considering the results of the GeoTPB model,priority would better be given to villages with appropriate access and a population with the potential to use technology.Additionally,regarding the government’s aim to develop rural businesses,it is suggested that the Transaction Services Model be launched as the national business and the related facilities be provided. | Seyed Jaber Alavion Ahmad Taghdisi | 2021 | Information Processing in Agriculture2021,8,1: | 2 |
| 7 | Teaching solid mechanics to artificial intelligence—a fast solver for heterogeneous materials显示文摘We propose a deep neural network(DNN)as a fast surrogate model for local stress calculations in inhomogeneous non-linear materials.We show that the DNN predicts the local stresses with 3.8%mean absolute percentage error(MAPE)for the case of heterogeneous elastic media and a mechanical contrast of up to factor of 1.5 among neighboring domains,while performing 103 times faster than spectral solvers.The DNN model proves suited for reproducing the stress distribution in geometries different from those used for training.In the case of elasto-plastic materials with up to 4 times mechanical contrast in yield stress among adjacent regions,the trained model simulates the micromechanics with a MAPE of 6.4%in one single forward evaluation of the network,without any iteration.The results reveal an efficient approach to solve non-linear mechanical problems,with an acceleration up to a factor of 8300 for elastic-plastic materials compared to typical solvers. | Jaber Rezaei Mianroodi Nima H.Siboni Dierk Raabe | 2021 | npj Computational Materials2021,,1: | 2 |
