1Dielectric metasurfaces for distance measurements and three-dimensional imaging显示文摘Ultrathin metasurfaces have shown the capability to influence all aspects of light propagation. This has made them promising options for replacing conventional bulky imaging optics while adding advantageous optical properties or functionalities. We demonstrate that such metasurfaces can also be applied for single-lens three-dimensional(3-D)imaging based on a specifically engineered point-spread function(PSF).Using Huygens’metasurfaces with high transmission,we design and realize a phase mask that implements a rotating PSF for 3-D imaging. We experimentally characterize the properties of the realized double-helix PSF,finding that it can uniquely encode object distances within a wide range.Furthermore,we experimentally demonstrate wide-field depth retrieval within a 3-D scene, showing the suitability of metasurfaces to realize optics for 3-D imaging, using just a single camera and lens system.Chunqi Jin Mina Afsharnia RenéBerlich Stefan Fasold Chengjun Zou Dennis Arslan Isabelle Staude Thomas Pertsch Frank Setzpfandt 2019Advanced Photonics2019,1,3:7
2Boosting third-harmonic generation by a mirror-enhanced anapole resonator显示文摘We demonstrate that a dielectric anapole resonator on a metallic mirror can enhance the third harmonic emission by two orders of magnitude compared to a typical anapole resonator on an insulator substrate.By employing a gold mirror under a silicon nanodisk,we introduce a novel characteristic of the anapole mode through the spatial overlap of resonantly excited Cartesian electric and toroidal dipole modes. This is a remarkable improvement on the early demonstrations of the anapole mode in which the electric and toroidal modes interfere off-resonantly.Therefore,our system produces a significant near-field enhancement, facilitating the nonlinear process. Moreover, the mirror surface boosts the nonlinear emission via the free-charge oscillations within the interface, equivalent to producing a mirror image of the nonlinear source and the pump beneath the interface. We found that these improvements result in an extremely high experimentally obtained efficiency of 0.01%.Lei Xu Mohsen Rahmani Khosro Zangeneh Kamali Aristeidis Lamprianidis Lavinia Ghirardini Jürgen Sautter Rocio Camacho-Morales Haitao Chen Matthew Parry Isabelle Staude Guoquan Zhang Dragomir Neshev Andrey E.Miroshnichenko 2018Light(Science & Applications)2018,7,1:5
3Nonlinear frequency conversion in optical nanoantennas and metasurfaces:materials evolution and fabrication显示文摘Nonlinear frequency conversion is one of the most fundamental processes in nonlinear optics. It has a wide range of applications in our daily lives, including novel light sources, sensing, and information processing. It is usually assumed that nonlinear frequency conversion requires large crystals that gradually accumulate a strong effect. However, the large size of nonlinear crystals is not compatible with the miniaturisation of modern photonic and optoelectronic systems. Therefore, shrinking the nonlinear structures down to the nanoscale, while keeping favourable conversion efficiencies,is of great importance for future photonics applications. In the last decade, researchers have studied the strategies for enhancing the nonlinear efficiencies at the nanoscale,e.g.by employing different nonlinear materials, resonant couplings and hybridization techniques. In this paper,we provide a compact review of the nanomaterials-based efforts, ranging from metal to dielectric and semiconductor nanostructures, including their relevant nanofabrication techniques.Mohsen Rahmani Giuseppe Leo Igal Brener Anatoly V. 4Near-field launching and mapping unidirectional surface plasmon polaritons using an automated dual-tip scanning near-field optical microscope显示文摘The spatial distribution of electromagnetic fields emitted from the aperture tip of a scanning near-field optical microscope(SNOM), which is called the emission pattern, depends on the geometry of the apex and the material composition of the tip’s coating. In previous works, experimental measurements of the emission pattern from the aperture tip were performed mostly in the far field. Moreover, the corresponding theoretical models were also developed based on these far-field measurements. Here, we have used the automated dual-tip SNOM to systematically characterize the emission from the aperture tip in the near field. In this regard, we have considered three different pairs of excitation and detection tips with distinct geometries. The emission patterns of the excitation tips were mapped using detection tips. Unidirectional surface plasmon polaritons(SPPs) at the surface of a gold platelet were launched by an excitation tip and measured in the near field by the detection tip. The experimental results were numerically reproduced by means of the Bethe–Bouwkamp model. This work puts into evidence the applicability of the automated dual-tip SNOM as the only available characterization technique to measure the emission from aperture tips in the near field. The reported asymmetric SPP radiation patterns can find applications in photonic integrated circuits or in biological and chemical sensing.NAJMEH ABBASIRAD ANGELA BARREDA YI-JU CHEN JER-SHING HUANG ISABELLE STAUDE FRANK SETZPFANDT THOMAS PERTSCH 2022Photonics Research2022,10,11:0
