9Probing the upper band gap of atomic rhenium disulfide layers显示文摘Here,we investigate the ultrafast carrier dynamics and electronic states of exfoliated ReS2 films using time-resolved second harmonic generation(TSHG)microscopy and density functional theory(DFT)calculations.The second harmonic generation(SHG)of layers with various thicknesses is probed using a 1.19-eV beam.Up to~13 nm,a gradual increment is observed,followed by a decrease caused by bulk interferometric light absorption.The addition of a pump pulse tuned to the exciton band gap(1.57 eV)creates a decay-to-rise TSHG profile as a function of the probe delay.The power and thickness dependencies indicate that the electron–hole recombination is mediated by defects and surfaces.The two photon absorptions of 2.38 eV in the excited state that are induced by pumping from 1.57 to 1.72 eV are restricted because these transitions highly correlate with the forbidden d–d intrasubshell orbital transitions.However,the combined usage of a frequency-doubled pump(2.38 eV)with wavelength-variant SHG probes(2.60–2.82 eV)allows us to vividly monitor the variations in TSHG profiles from decay-to-rise to rise-to-decay,which imply the existence of an additional electron absorption state(s-orbital)at an approximate distance of 5.05 eV from the highest occupied molecular orbital states.This observation was critically examined by considering the allowance of each electronic transition and a small upper band gap(~0.5 eV)using modified DFT calculations.Krishna P.Dhakal Hyunmin Kim Seonwoo Lee Youngjae Kim JaeDong Lee Jong-Hyun Ahn 2018Light(Science & Applications)2018,7,1:1

18Opportunities and Challenges in Twisted Bilayer Graphene:A Review显示文摘Two-dimensional(2D)materials exhibit enhanced physical,chemical,electronic,and optical properties when compared to those of bulk materials.Graphene demands significant attention due to its superior physical and electronic characteristics among different types of 2D materials.The bilayer graphene is fabricated by the stacking of the two monolayers of graphene.The twisted bilayer graphene(tBLG)superlattice is formed when these layers are twisted at a small angle.The presence of disorders and interlayer interactions in tBLG enhances several characteristics,including the optical and electrical properties.The studies on twisted bilayer graphene have been exciting and challenging thus far,especially after superconductivity was reported in tBLG at the magic angle.This article reviews the current progress in the fabrication techniques of twisted bilayer graphene and its twisting angle-dependent properties.Amol Nimbalkar Hyunmin Kim 2020Nano-Micro Letters2020,12,10:0
19Charge-carrier photogeneration and extraction dynamics of polymer solar cells probed by a transient photocurrent nearby the regime of the space charge-limited current显示文摘To understand the complex behaviors of photogenerated charge carriers within polymer-based bulk-heterojunction-type solar cells,the charge-carrier photogeneration and extraction dynamics are simultaneously estimated using a transient photocurrent technique under various external-bias voltages,and a wide range of excitation intensities are analyzed.For this purpose,conventional devices with 80 nm thick active layers consisting of a blend of representative P3HT and PTB7 electron-donating polymers and proper electron-accepting fullerene derivatives were used.After the correction for the saturation behavior at a high excitation-intensity range nearby the regime of the space charge-limited current,the incident-photon-density-dependent maximum photocurrent densities at the initial peaks are discussed as the proportional measures of the charge-carrier-photogeneration facility.By comparing the total number of the extracted charge carriers to the total number of the incident photons and the number of the initially photogenerated charge carriers,the external quantum efficiencies as well as the extraction quantum efficiencies of the charge-carrier collection during a laser-pulse-induced transient photocurrent process were obtained.Subsequently,the charge-carrier concentration-dependent mobility values were obtained,and they are discussed in consideration of the additional influences of the charge-carrier losses from the device during the charge-carrier extraction that also affects the photocurrent-trace shape.Boa Jin Hyunmin Park Yang Liu Leijing Liu Jongdeok An Wenjing Tian Chan Im 2021Frontiers of Chemical Science and Engineering2021,15,1:0
20Time-Lapse 3-D Seismic Wave Simulation via the Generalized Multiscale Finite Element Method显示文摘Numerical solution of time-lapse seismic monitoring problems can be challenging due to the presence of finely layered reservoirs.Repetitive wave modeling using fine layered meshes also adds more computational cost.Conventional approaches such as finite difference and finite element methods may be prohibitively expensive if the whole domain is discretized with the cells corresponding to the grid in the reservoir subdomain.A common approach in this case is to use homogenization techniques to upscale properties of subsurface media and assign the background properties to coarser grid;however,inappropriate application of upscaling might result in a distortion of the model,which hinders accurate monitoring of the fluid change in subsurface.In this work,we instead investigate capabilities of a multiscale method that can deal with fine scale heterogeneities of the reservoir layer and more coarsely meshed rock properties in the surrounding domains in the same fashion.To address the 3-D wave problems,we also demonstrate how the multiscale wave modeling technique can detect the changes caused by fluid movement while the hydrocarbon production activity proceeds.Yongchae Cho Richard L.Gibson,Jr. Hyunmin Kim Mikhail Artemyev Yalchin Efendiev 2020Communications in Computational Physics2020,28,6:0
