| 1 | Solar activity effects of the ionosphere: A brief review显示文摘Solar radiation, which varies over multiple temporal scales, modulates remarkably the evolution of the ionosphere. The solar activity dependence of the ionosphere is a key and fundamental issue in ionospheric physics, providing information essential to understanding the variations in the ionosphere and its processes. Selected recent studies on solar activity effects of the ionosphere are briefly reviewed in this report. This report focuses on (1) observations of solar irradiance at X-ray and extreme ultraviolet wavelengths and the outstanding problems of solar proxies, in the view of ionospheric studies, (2) new findings and improved representations of the features of the solar activity dependence of ionospheric key parameters and the corresponding physical processes, (3) possible phenomena in the ionosphere under extremely high and low solar activity conditions that are unique, as indicated by historical solar datasets and the deep solar minimum of solar cycle 23/24, and (4) statistical studies and model simulations of the ionosphere response to solar flares. | 2 | Development of a middle and low latitude theoretical ionospheric model and an observation system data assimilation experiment显示文摘On the basis of previous work, we develop a middle and low latitude theoretical ionospheric model in this paper, named Theoretical Ionospheric Model of the Earth in the Institute of Geology and Geophysics, Chinese Academy of Sciences (TIME-IGGCAS). TIME-IGGCAS solves the equations of mass continuity, motion and energy of electron and ions self-consistently and uses an eccentric dipole field approxima-tion to the Earth’s magnetic field. We combine the Eulerian and Lagrangian approaches in the model and take account of the plasma E×B drift velocity. Calculation results reveal that the model is steady and credible and can reproduce most large-scale features of ionosphere. By using TIME-IGGCAS, we carried out an observation system data assimilation experiment. Assimilation results show that the E×B drift velocity can be accurately estimated by ingesting the observed foF2 and hmF2 into the model ap-plying nonlinear least-square fit method. | 3 | Why super sandstorm 2021 in North China?显示文摘Severe sandstorms reoccurred in the spring of 2021 after an absence for more than 10 years in North China.The dust source area,located in Mongolia,suffered destructive cooling and warming in early and late winter,which loosened the land.A lack of precipitation,excessive snow melt and strong evaporation resulted in dry soil and exiguous spring vegetation.A super-strong Mongolian cyclone developed on the bare and loose ground,and easily blew and transported large amounts of sand particles into North China.Furthermore,top-ranking anomalies(sea ice shift in the Barents and Kara Sea,and sea surface temperatures in the east Pacific and northwest Atlantic) were found to induce the aforementioned tremendous climate anomalies in the dust source area.Analys es,based on large-ensemble Coupled Model Intercomparison Project Phase 6,yield results identical to the reanalysis data.Thus,the climate variabilities at different latitudes and synoptic disturbances jointly facilitated the strongest spring sandstorm over the last decade. | Zhicong Yin Yu Wan Yijia Zhang Huijun Wang | 2022 | National Science Review2022,9,3: | 7 |

| 10 | Recent Progresses on Ionospheric Climatology Investigations显示文摘The ionosphere varies over multiple time scales,which are classified into two categories: the climatology and weather variations.In this national report,we give a brief summary of recent progresses in ionospheric climatology with focus on(1) the seasonal variations,(2) solar cycle effects, and(3) empirical modeling of the ionosphere.The seasonal variations of the ionosphere have been explored in many works to give a more detailed picture with regional and global features at various altitudes by analyzing the observation data from various sources and models.Moreover,a series of studies reported the response of the ionosphere to solar cycle variations,which revealed some novel and detailed features of solar activity dependence of ionospheric parameters at different altitudes. | 13 | Some Investigations on the Ionosphere during 2012–2014 in China显示文摘In this national biannual report, we will outline some recent progresses in ionospheric studies conducted by Chinese scientists since 2012. The mentioned aspects include: the solar activity control of the ionosphere; couplings between the ionosphere, lower atmosphere and plasmasphere;ionospheric climatology and disturbances; ionospheric irregularities and scintillation; models, data assimilation and simulations; unusual phenomena of the ionosphere; possible seismic signatures presented in ionospheric observations, and some methodology progresses. | 14 | Ensemble Based Diagnosis of the Track Errors of Super Typhoon Mangkhut(2018)显示文摘Super Typhoon Mangkhut(2018)was the most high-impact typhoon in 2018 because of its long lifespan and significant intensity.The operational track forecasts in the short-to-medium range(deterministic and probabilistic forecast)showed a great uncertainty and the forecast landing points varied with different lead times.This study applied ensembles of high-resolution ECMWF forecasts to investigate the major factors and mechanisms of the bias production of the Mangkhut forecast track.The ensembles with the largest track bias were analyzed to examine the possible bias associated factors.The results suggested that environmental steering flows were the main cause for the erroneous southward track error with a variance contribution of 72%.The tropical cyclone(TC)size difference and the interaction of the TC with the subtropical high(SH)were other two key factors that contributed to the track error.Particularly,larger TCs may have led to a stronger erosion of the southern part of the SH,and thus induced significant changes in the large-scale environment and eventually resulted in an additional northward movement of TC. | Ling HUANG Qilin WAN Chunxia LIU Huijun HUANG | 2020 | Journal of Meteorological Research2020,34,2: | 0 |
| 15 | Double Z-Scheme g-C_(3)N_(4)/BiOI/CdS heterojunction with I_(3)^(-)/I^(-) pairs for enhanced visible light photocatalytic performance显示文摘The g-C_(3)N_(4)/BiOI/CdS double Z-scheme heterojunction photocatalyst with I_(3)^(-)/I^(-) redox pairs is prepared using simple calcination,solvothermal,and solution chemical deposition methods.The photocatalyst comprised mesoporous,thin g-C_(3)N_(4) nanosheets loaded on flower-like microspheres of BiOI with CdS quantum dots.The g-C_(3)N_(4)/BiOI/CdS double Z-scheme heterojunction has abundant active sites and in situ redox I_(3)^(-)/I^(-) mediators and shows quantum size effects,which are all conducive to enhancing the separation of photoinduced charges and increasing the photocatalytic degradation efficiency for bisphenol A,a model pollutant.Specifically,the heterojunction photocatalyst achieves a photocatalytic degradation efficiency for bisphenol A of 98.62%in 120 min and photocatalytic hydrogen production of 863.44 mmol h^(-1) g^(-1) on exposure to visible light.The excellent visible-light photocatalytic performance is as a result of the Z-scheme heterojunction,which extends absorption to the visible light region,as well as the I_(3)^(-)/I^(-) pairs,which accelerate photoinduced charge carrier transfer and separation,thus dramatically boosting the photocatalytic performance.In addition,the key role of the charge transfer across the indirect Z-scheme heterojunction has been elucidated and the transfer mechanism is confirmed based on the detection of intermediate I_(3)^(-)ions.Thus,this study provides guidelines for the design of indirect Z-scheme heterojunction photocatalysts. | Yan Zhang Yixiao Wu Liang Wan Wenfeng Yang Huijun Ding Chongyang Lu Weihao Zhang Zipeng Xing | 2022 | Green Energy & Environment2022,7,6: | 0 |
