1Microbiota transplantation reveals beneficial impact of berberine on hepatotoxicity by improving gut homeostasis显示文摘Berberine has been shown to reduce acute liver injury although the underlying mechanism is not fully understood. Because of the anatomic connection, the liver is constantly exposed to gut-derived bacterial products and metabolites. In this study, we showed that berberine has beneficial effects on both hepatotoxicity and intestinal damage in a rat model of chronic or acute liver injury. Microbiota transplantation from the rats with chronic hepatotoxicity could aggravate acute hepatotoxicity in mice treated with diethylnitrosamine(DEN). In rat models with gut homeostasis disruption induced by penicillin or dextran sulfate sodium(DSS), their fecal microbiota could also cause an enhanced hepatotoxicity of recipient mice. When treated with berberine,the DSS-induced enteric dysbacteriosis could be mitigated and their fecal bacteria were able to reduce acute hepatotoxicity in recipient mice. This study indicates that berberine could improve intestinal dysbacteriosis, which reduces the hepatotoxicity caused by pathological or pharmacological intervention. 2Analysis of Synonymous Codon Usage Bias in Chlamydia显示文摘Chlamydiae are obligate intracellular bacterial pathogens that cause ocular and sexually transmitted diseases, and are associated with cardiovascular diseases. The analysis of codon usage may improve our understanding of the evolution and pathogenesis of Chlamydia and allow reengineering of target genes to improve their expression for gene therapy. Here, we analyzed the codon usage of C. muridarum, C. trachomatis (here indicating biovar trachoma and LGV), C. pneumoniae, and C. psittaci using the codon usage database and the CUSP (Create a codon usage table) program of EMBOSS (The European Molecular Biology Open Software Suite). The results show that the four genomes have similar codon usage patterns, with a strong bias towards the codons with A and T at the third codon position. Compared with Homo sapiens, the four chlamydial species show discordant seven or eight preferred codons. The ENC (effective number of codons used in a gene)-plot reveals that the genetic heterogeneity in Chlamydia is constrained by the G+C content, while translational selection and gene length exert relatively weaker influences. Moreover, mutational pressure appears to be the major determinant of the codon usage variation among the chlamydial genes. In addition, we compared the codon preferences of C. trachomatis with those of E. coli, yeast, adenovirus and Homo sapiens. There are 23 codons showing distinct usage differences between C. trachomatis and E. coli, 24 between C. trachomatis and adenovirus, 21 between C. trachomatis and Homo sapiens, but only six codons between C. trachomatis and yeast. Therefore, the yeast system may be more suitable for the expression of chlamydial genes. Finally, we compared the codon preferences of C. trachomatis with those of six eukaryotes, eight prokaryotes and 23 viruses. There is a strong positive correlation between the differences in coding GC content and the variations in codon bias (r=0.905, P<0.001). 3Dynamic change of epidermal growth factor in neonatal rat with intestine injury显示文摘AIM: To determine whether diminished levels of epidermal growth factor (EGF) were present in neo-natal rats with intestinal injury and related with the degree of intestinal injury, so we modeled a model in neo-natal rats of intestinal injury and to examine the dynamic levels of EGF on injury of intestine.METHODS: One-day-old Wistar rat pups received an intraperitoneally injection with 4 mg/kg lipopolysaccharide (LPS), followed by collection of ileum tissue at 1, 3, 6, 12,and 24 h following LPS administration. The ileum was for histological evaluation of NEC and for measurements of EGF using ABC-ELISA. The correlation between the degree of intestinal injury and levels of EGF was determined. RESULTS: The LPS-injected pups also showed a significant increase in injury scores at 1, 3, 6, 12, and 24 h [respectively, (1.08±0.61), (1.63±0.84), (1.95±0.72), (2.42±0.43)and (2.21±0.53)] vsthe control (0.12±0.17) (P<0.01).EGF levels at 1, 3, 6, 12 h [respectively, (245.6±49.0), (221.4±39.0), (223.4±48.1), (246.0±46.6)] pg/mg were significantly loss than the control (275.6±50.4) pg/mg (P<0.05). There was a significant negative correlation between the EGF levels and the grade of intestinal injury within 24 h (P<0.05).CONCLUSION: Neo-natal rats with intestinal injury have significantly lower levels of ileum EGF. 5Round-trip oscillation triboelectric nanogenerator with high output response and low wear to harvest random wind energy显示文摘Triboelectric nanogenerator(TENG)has made significant progress in wind energy harvesting.As the most advantageous rotary TENG among wind energy harvesters,the severe material wear and the output that fluctuates with wind speed seriously hinder the application of TENG wind energy harvesters.In this study,we propose a round-trip oscillation triboelectric nanogenerator(RTO-TENG)consisting of a crank transmission mechanism and a power generation unit.The RTO-TENG utilizes a simple crank transmission mechanism combined with a zigzag-laminated triboelectric nanogenerator(Z-TENG)to achieve high-performance constant output and low material wear.The crank transmission mechanism can realize the transformation from circular motion to arc reciprocating motion,converting the random wind energy into bi-directional kinetic energy,driving the vertical contact and separation of the Z-TENG.Due to the low transmission ratio(1:1)of the crank transmission mechanism and the consistent frequency of the Z-TENG contact–separation with that of the pendulum,the RTO-TENG’s power generation unit(10 Z-TENGs)is insensitive to changes in wind speed,resulting in a constant and stable output response at various speeds.After 480,000 cycles,the output of RTO-TENG decreased by only 0.9%compared to the initial value of 6μC,and the scanning electron microscopy(SEM)images of the polytetrafluoroethylene(PTFE)film showed no significant wear on the surface of the friction layer,demonstrating excellent output stability and abrasion resistance of the RTO-TENG wind energy collector’s material.The equipped energy management module,based on a gas discharge tube switch,can further enhance the output performance of the RTO-TENG.After optimizing its inductor parameter L to match the load capacitor,it can charge a 220μF load capacitor to 13.4 V in 40 s,resulting in a 298%improvement in charging speed compared to the voltage of 4.48 V without the management module.Therefore,the RTO-TENG can efficiently provide power to low-power small electronic devices for Internet of Things(IoTs),such as road traffic warning signs and thermo-hygrometers.Xinyu Hu Junrui Feng Chuangjian Liang Heng Ning Chunjin Chen Jiayu Li Honggui Wen Huilu Yao Lingyu Wan Guanlin Liu 2023Nano Research2023,16,8:1

9Hepatic preconditioning of doxorubicin in stop-flow chemotherapy:NF-κB/IκB-α pathway and expression of HSP72显示文摘AIM: To provide hepatic protection through administration of doxorubicin before stop-flow chemotherapy (SFC) and to investigate the expression of heat shock protein 72(HSP72) and role of nuclear factor kappa B (NF-kB) in this effect.METHODS: The hepatic preconditioning of doxorubicin was established in a porcine model by injection of doxorubidn(1 mg/kg) before SFC. The experimental animals were randomized into two groups: groups receiving doxorubicin(DOX) and normal saline (NS). Serial serum and tissue samples were taken from both groups to evaluate the protection of doxorubicin. Western blot and immunoprecipitation were applied to detect the expression of HSP72, NF-kB p65 protein, inhibitor kB-α (IkB-α) and phosphorylated IkB-α as well. The expression of tumor necrosis factor α (TNF-α) was estimated by semiquantitative RT-PCR. And the extent of the hepatic injury was estimated with the level of serum aminotransferases.RESULTS: An abundance production of HSP72 in porcine liver was observed after 24 h of intravenous administration of doxorubicin, but without any change in the expression of NF-kB p65 subunit in cytoplasm. NF-kB p65 subunit accumulated in nuclei at the end of SFC and reached its highest level at 30 rain after the restoration of the abdominal circulation and decreased gradually during the 6 h after SFC in NS group, while there was little change in DOX group. There was also a slight decrease of IkB-α at 30 min after the restoration of the abdominal circulation in NS group accompanying with the appearance of phosphorylated IkB-α. The expression of TNF-α was significantly higher in NS group than that in DOX group (average 1.40±0.17 vs 0.62±0.22, P<0.01) at serial time points after SFC. Serum ALT and AST levels of NS group were higher after 24 h than those of DOX group (93.2±7.8 IU/L vs 53.34±13.9 IU/L,217.0±29.4 IU/L vs 155.0±15.6 IU/L for ALT and AST respectively, P<0.05) and alter 48 h than those of DOX group (66.6±18.1 IU/L vs 43.3±16.7 IU/L, 174.4±21.3 IU/Lvs 125.7±10.5 IU/L for ALT and AST respectively, P<0.05).CONCLUSION: Doxorubicin renders the liver to be tolerant to the hepatic influence in SFC in a porcine model through the NF-kB/IkB-α pathway with the expression of HSP72.HuiLu Zheng-GangZhu Xue-XinYao RenZhao ChaoYan YiZhang Bing-YaLiu Hao-RanYin Yan-ZhenLin 2005World Journal of Gastroenterology2005,11,14:0
10A general strategy towards controllable replication of butterfly wings for robust light photocatalysis显示文摘Large-scale replication of the hierarchical microstructure of bio-template is a long-standing challenge due to the large shrinkage when the bio-templates are burned off.In this work,TiO_(2) based biomimetic metamaterials have been successfully synthesized by sputtering technique,followed by tape assisted transferring and thermal oxidation process.Tile-like arrays of the scale replicas with ridge-lamellae hierarchical microstructures have been obtained and exhibit bright blue-purple structure color.More interestingly,they exhibit signifcantly enhanced photocatalytic activity to decompose methylene blue under solar light illumination,with the degradation rate of methylene blue almost fve times that of TiO_(2) thin flms with the same sample area.The enhancement on the visible light photocatalytic activity in TiO_(2) replicas can be attributed to a synergy effect of the presence of Ti^(3+) doping,the air-TO_(2) interaction,and hierarchical microstructure.The controlling factors that affect the microstructure,structural color and photocatalytic activity of the TiO_(2) replicas have been discussed in detail.This work offers a scalable and precise approach to replicate various bio-templates based on transition metal oxides,such as ZnO,Fe_(3)O_(4),CoO,and VO_(2),thereby providing the new opportunity for infrared sensing,photocatalytic and photonic applications.Minmin Zhu Haizhong Zhang Shoo Wen Long Favier Yida Zhao Huilu Guo Zehui Du 2022Journal of Materials Science & Technology2022,,10:0
