Epidemiological and risk analysis of the H7N9 subtype influenza outbreak in China at its early stage显示文摘Dozens of human cases infected with H7N9 subtype avian influenza virus (AIV) have been confirmed in China since March, 2013. Distribution data of sexes, ages, professions and regions of the cases were analyzed in this report. The results showed that the elderly cases, especially the male elderly, were significantly more than expected, which is different from human cases of H5N1 avian influenza and human cases of the pandemic H1N1 influenza. The outbreak was rated as a Grade Ⅲ (severe) outbreak, and it would evolve into a Grade IV (very severe) outbreak soon, using a method reported previously. The H7N9 AIV will probably circulate in humans, birds and pigs for years. Moreover, with the driving force of natural selection, the virus will probably evolve into highly pathogenic AIV in birds, and into a deadly pandemic influenza virus in humans. Therefore, the H7N9 outbreak has been assumed severe, and it is likely to become very or extremely severe in the future, highlighting the emergent need of forceful scientific measures to eliminate any infected animal flocks. We also described two possible mild scenarios of the future evolution of the outbreak. | ZHUANG QingYe WANG SuChun WU MeiLi LIU Shuo JIANG WenMing HOU GuangYu LI JinPing WANG KaiCheng YU JianMin CHEN JiMing CHEN JiWang | 2013 | Chinese Science Bulletin2013,58,26: | 18
Study on the spectral response of Brassica Campestris L. leaf to the copper pollution显示文摘Brassica Campestis L. was cultivated in the soil at the laboratory. The red edge, the visual spectrum and the near-infrared spectrum of Brassica Campestis L. leaf were used to explore the spectral response of Brassica Campestis L. leaf to the copper stress. As the Cu content in the soil gets increased, the copper level in Brassica Campestris L. leaf would be increased, and the chlorophyll level in Brassica Campestris L. leaf would be decreased. As a result, the visual spectral reflectance (A1) of Brassica Campestris L. leaf is increased, and the blue-shift (moving towards the shorter waveband) degree (S) of the red edge (the ascending region of the re-flectivity at 680―740 nm) gets increased. However, the near-infrared spectral re-flectance (A2) decreases. With the correlation coefficient R2 more than 0.95,these parameters of A1,A2 and S can be perfectly used to simulate and predict the copper level in Brassica Campestris L. leaf. | LIU SuHong LIU XinHui HOU Juan CHI GuangYu CUI BaoShan | 2008 | Science China(Technological Sciences)2008,51,2: | 5
Origin and future distribution of the new A (H1N1) influenza virus emerging in North America in 2009显示文摘The origin of the new A (H1N1) influenza virus recently emerging in North America is a hot controversial topic of significance in disease control and risk assessment. Some experts claimed that it was an unusually mongrelized mix of human, avian and swine influenza viruses, while some others concluded that it was totally a simple re-assortment hybrid of two lineages of swine influenza viruses. Here the phylogenetic diversity of the viral PB1,PA and PB2 gene sequences using online web servers, and the results suggest that all the 8 genetic segments of the new virus were possibly from two lineages of swine influenza viruses, and one of the lineage was a mongrelized mix of human, avian and swine influenza viruses emerging in the world approximately 10 years ago.Considering the recent epidemiological trends of the new virus,we believe it will spread more widely in the world and persist long in human populations. It also could spread among swine populations. The future wide spreading of the new virus may coincide the disappearance of a subtype of previous human influenza A virus. | CHEN JiMing SUN YingXue LIU Shuo JIANG WenMing CHEN Jie HOU GuangYu LI JinPing | 2009 | Chinese Science Bulletin2009,54,13: | 3
Increased substitution rate in H5N1 avian influenza viruses during mass vaccination of poultry显示文摘As a means of heated debate, mass vaccination of poultry has been used in some countries to control H5N1 highly pathogenic avian influenza(HPAI),which remains of global economic and public health significance.Theoretically, mass vaccination can act as an evolutionary selective force facilitating the emergence of vaccine-resistant viruses, similar to that widespread use of antibiotics facilitates the emergence of antibiotic-resistant bacteria. To support the hypothesis, the substitution rates in the two subunits,HA1 and HA2,of the viral hemagglutinin gene, were calculated using a Bayesian Markov Chain Monte Carlo(MCMC) approach. It was found that the rate in the HA1 subunit, but not in the HA2 subunit, increased significantly during periods of mass vaccination(2005 2010 in China and 2003 2009 in Indonesia),in contrast to the periods when no mass vaccination programs took place(1996 2004 in China and 2004 2008 in Thailand).Because substitutions in the HA1 subunit rather than in the HA2 subunit can lead to vaccine-resistant viruses, the results support that mass vaccination programs facilitate the emergence of vaccine-resistant viruses, which,in turn, will render mass vaccination programs less effective. Therefore, caution must be taken when adopting mass vaccination as a long-term strategy to control HPAI. | WANG ZhaoGuo JIANG WenMing LIU Shuo HOU GuangYu LI JinPing WANG ZhiYu CHEN JiMing | 2012 | Chinese Science Bulletin2012,57,19: | 3
Effect of UBR5 on the tumor microenvironment and its related mechanisms in cancer显示文摘Objective UBR5,recently identified as a potential target for cancer therapeutics,is overexpressed in multiple malignant tumors. In addition,it is closely associated with the growth, prognosis, metastasis, and treatment response of multiple types of cancer.Although emerging evidence supports the relationship between UBR5 and cancer, there are limited cancer analyses available. Methods In this study, online databases(TIMER2,GEPIA2,UALCAN,c-BioPortal,STRING)were employed to comprehensively explore expression levels and prognostic values of the UBR5 gene in cancer, using bioinformatic methods. Results We found that various characteristics of the UBR5 gene such as gene expression, survival value, genetic mutation, protein phosphorylation, immune infiltration, and pathway activities in the normal tissue were remarkably different from those in the primary tumor.Furthermore,“protein processing in spliceosome”and“ubiquitin mediated proteolysis”have provided evidence for their potential involvement in the development of cancer. Conclusion Our findings may provide insights for the selection of novel immunotherapeutic targets and prognostic biomarkers for cancer. | Guangyu Wang Sutong Yin Justice Afrifa Guihong Rong Shaofeng Jiang Haonan Guo Xianliang Hou | 2021 | Oncology and Translational Medicine2021,7,6: | 1
Feasibility of sentinel lymph node biopsy omission after integration of ^(18)F-FDG dedicated lymph node PET in early breast cancer: a prospective phase II trial显示文摘Objective:Sentinel lymph node biopsy(SLNB)is currently the standard of care in clinically node negative(cN0)breast cancer. The present study aimed to evaluate the negative predictive value(NPV)of 18F-FDG dedicated lymph node positron emission tomography(LymphPET)in cN0 patients. Methods:This was a prospective phase II trial divided into 2 stages(NCT04072653).In the first stage,cN0 patients underwent axillary LymphPET followed by SLNB.In the second stage,SLNB was omitted in patients with a negative preoperative axillary assessment after integration of LymphPET.Here,we report the results of the first stage. The primary outcome was the NPV of LymphPET to detect macrometastasis of lymph nodes(LN-macro).Results:A total of 189 patients with invasive breast cancer underwent LymphPET followed by surgery with definitive pathological reports.Forty patients had LN-macro,and 16 patients had only lymph node micrometastasis.Of the 131 patients with a negative LymphPET result,16 patients had LN-macro,and the NPV was 87.8%.After combined axillary imaging evaluation with ultrasound and LymphPET,100 patients were found to be both LymphPET and ultrasound negative,9 patients had LN-macro,and the NPV was 91%.Conclusions:LymphPET can be used to screen patients to potentially avoid SLNB,with an NPV>90%.The second stage of the SOAPET trial is ongoing to confirm the safety of omission of SLNB according to preoperational axillary evaluation integrating LymphPET. | Junjie Li Jingyi Cheng Guangyu Liu Yifeng Hou Genghong Di Benglong Yang Yizhou Jiang Liang Huang Feilin Qu Sheng Chen Yan Wang Keda Yu Zhimin Shao | 2022 | Cancer Biology & Medicine2022,19,7: | 1
