1Fault plane parameters of Sanhe-Pinggu M8 earthquake in 1679 determined using present-day small earthquakes显示文摘The great Sanhe-Pinggu M8 earthquake occurred in 1679 was the largest surface rupture event recorded in history in the northern part of North China plain. This study determines the fault geometry of this earthquake by inverting seismological data of present-day moderate-small earthquakes in the focal area. We relocated those earthquakes with the double-difference method.Based on the assumption that clustered small earthquakes often occur in the vicinity of fault plane of large earthquake, and referring to the morphology of the long axis of the isoseismal line obtained by the predecessors, we selected a strip-shaped zone from the relocated earthquake catalog in the period from 1980 to 2009 to invert fault plane parameters of this earthquake. The inversion results are as follows: the strike is 38.23°, the dip angle is 82.54°,the slip angle is-156.08°, the fault length is about 80 km,the lower-boundary depth is about 23 km and the buried depth of upper boundary is about 3 km. This shows that the seismogenic fault is a NNE-trending normal dip-slip fault,southeast wall downward and northwest wall uplift, with the right-lateral strike-slip component. 2Genomic insights into the fast growth of paulownias and the formation of Paulownia witches' broom显示文摘Paulownias are among the fastest growing trees in the world,but they often suffer tremendous loss of wood production due to infection by Paulownia witches'broom(PaWB)phytoplasmas.In this study,we have sequenced and assembled a high-quality nuclear genome of Paulownia fortunei,a commonly cultivated paulownia species.The assembled genome of P.fortunei is 511.6 Mb in size,with 93.2%of its sequences anchored to 20 pseudo-chromosomes,and it contains 31985 protein-coding genes.Phylogenomic analyses show that the family Paulowniaceae is sister to a clade composed of Phrymaceae and Orobanchaceae.Higher photosynthetic efficiency is achieved by integrating C3 photosynthesis and the crassulacean acid metabolism pathway,which may contribute to the extremely fast growth habit of paulownia trees.Comparative transcriptome analyses reveal modules related to cambial growth and development,photosynthesis,and defense responses.Additional genome sequencing of PaWB phytoplasma,combined with functional analyses,indicates that the effector PaWB-SAP54 interacts directly with Paulownia PfSPLa,which in turn causes the degradation of PfSPLa by the ubiquitin-mediated pathway and leads to the formation of witches'broom.Taken together,these results provide significant insights into the biology of paulownias and the regulatory mechanism for the formation of PaWB.Yabing Cao Guiling Sun Xiaoqiao Zhai Pingluo Xu Liming Ma Minjie Deng Zhenli Zhao Haibo Yang Yanpeng Dong Zhonghai Shang Yujie Lv Lijun Yan Haifang Liu Xibing Cao Bingbing Li Zhe Wang Xiaogai Zhao Haiyan Yu Fan Wang Wen Ma Jinling Huang Guoqiang Fan 2021Molecular Plant2021,14,10:7
3Fault plane parameters of Tancheng M81/2 earthquake on the basis of present-day seismological data显示文摘The great Tancheng earthquake of M81/2 occurred in 1668 was the largest seismic event ever recorded in history in eastern China.This study determines the fault geometry of this earthquake by inverting seismological data of present-day moderate-small earthquakes in the focal area.We relocated those earthquakes with the double-difference method and found focal mechanism solutions using gird test method.The inversion results are as follows:the strike is 21.6°,the dip angle is 89.5°,the slip angle is 170°,the fault length is about 160 km,the lower-boundary depth is about 32 km and the buried depth of upper boundary is about 4 km.This shows that the seismic fault is a NNE-trending upright right-lateral strike-slip fault and has cut through the crust.Moreover,the surface seismic fault,intensity distribution of the earthquake,earthquake-depth distribution and seismic-wave velocity profile in the focal area all verified our study result.Cuiying Zhou Guiling Diao Jie Geng Yonghong Li Ping Xu Xinliang Hu Xiangdong Feng 2010Earthquake Science2010,23,6:7

20Sensitivity of Typhoon Lingling(2019)simulations to horizontal mixing length and planetary boundary layer parameterizations显示文摘Forecasting the intensity of typhoons is a difficult problem in numerical weather prediction.It is subject to many factors,among which the selection of physical parameterization schemes for the model is a hot topic of research.In this study,the effects of horizontal mixing length(represented by h_diff)and planetary boundary layer(PBL)schemes were investigated.Six idealized and four operational sensitivity experiments were designed based on simulation of the typhoon Lingling,which occurred over the western Pacific in 2019,using the Hurricane Weather Research and Forecasting model.The results of the idealized experiments showed that,as h_diff was increased,the slope of the typhoon eye area also increased,and its intensity became stronger.On the other hand,the results of the sensitivity experiments indicated that the intensity of the simulated typhoon was sensitive to the choice of PBL scheme,with the forecast bias of the QNSE(Quasi-Normal Scale Elimination)scheme being smaller than that of the GFDL(Geophysical Fluid Dynamics Laboratory)scheme.Angular momentum budget analyses indicated that,when increasing the h_diff,the convergence of angular momentum was larger in the boundary layer,which led to a faster spin-up of the vortex,further increasing the intensity of the typhoon.From the calculated horizontal and vertical vortex spread it was found that,when the h_diff was increased,the corresponding horizontal and vertical diffusion eddies also showed an increasing trend,which was also the reason for the strengthening of the typhoon.Meanwhile,the forecast bias decreased significantly with increasing horizontal mixing length when using the same PBL scheme.Siqi CHEN Feng XU Yu ZHANG Guiling YE Jianjun XU Chunlei LIU 2022Frontiers of Earth Science2022,16,2:0
