1Yield-scaled nitrous oxide emissions from nitrogen-fertilized croplands in China: A meta-analysis of contrasting mitigation scenarios显示文摘Nitrogen(N) losses in cropland resulting from the application of synthetic fertilizers decrease crop productivity and exacerbate environmental pollution.Mitigation measures, such as reduction in N fertilizer application rates, can have unintentional adverse effects on crop yield. We conducted a meta-analysis of soil N_(2)O emissions from agricultural fields across China under contrasting mitigation scenarios as a novel approach to identify the most effective strategy for the mitigation of emissions of N_(2)O derived from N fertilizer use in China. Current standard agricultural practice was used as a baseline scenario(BS), and 12 potential mitigation scenarios(S1–S12) were derived from the available literature and comprised single and combinations of management scenarios that accounted for crop yield. Mitigation scenarios S6(nitrification inhibitor 3,4-dimethylpyrazole phosphate) and S11(20% reduction in N application rate plus nitrification inhibitor dicyandiamide) in maize, rice, and wheat crops led to an average 56.0% reduction in N_(2)O emissions at the national level, whereas scenario S4(nitrification inhibitor dicyandiamide) led to yield optimization, with a 14.0% increase for maize and 8.0% increase for rice as compared to the BS. 2Effect of exchange blood transfusion on oxygen saturation of neonates with severe neonatal jaundice by pulse oximetry显示文摘Objective:To determine if there was any difference in SpO2 readings during exchange blood transfusion(EBT).Methods:A prospective cross-sectional study of neonates with severe neonatal jaundice requiring EBT was conducted.Oxygen saturation was recorded before,immediately and 15 minutes after EBT by using a pulse oximeter.Results:This study included 30 neonates with 20 males and 10 females.The age ranged from 1 to 12 days with a mean of(5.4±2.9)days.Pre-EBT SpO2 ranged from 90%to 98%with a mean value of(94.3±2.2)%;SpO2 in the end of EBT ranged from 85%to 99%with a mean value of(94.1±3.2)%;SpO2 at 15 minutes after EBT ranged from 77%to 99%with a mean value of(94.8±4.1)%.There was no significant difference between SpO2 values at onset of EBT and either immediately or 15 minutes after EBT(P=0.770 and 0.422,respectively).SpO2 showed no significant difference between neonates who were infused with blood of different storage times(<24 h or≥24 h)at the onset of EBT(P=0.584),immediately(P>0.999)and 15 minutes after EBT(P=0.887).Besides,SpO2 values were compariable in neonates with hematocrit<45%or≥45%at the onset of EBT(P=0.284),immediately(P=0.118)and 15 minutes after EBT(P=0.868).Conclusions:EBT does not affect SpO2 in neonates.Abubakar Muhammed Shakur Nuhu Abubakar Garba Ibrahim Ahmadu Daniel Apollos Aminu Wada Safiya Garba Abdullahi Abdulsalam Mohammed Mustafa O.Asani Ibrahim Aliyu 2021Journal of Acute Disease2021,10,3:1

4Phytochemical screening and anticonvulsant studies of ethyl acetate fraction of Globimetula braunii on laboratory animals显示文摘Objective:To investigate the phytochemical properties and the anticonvulsant potential of the ethyl acetate soluble fraction of ethanol leaf extract of Globimetida braunii,a plant used in ethnomedicine for the treatment of epilepsy.Methods:The phytochemical screening was carried out using standard protocol while the anticonvulsant activity was studied using maximal electroshock test in chicks,pentylenetetrazole and 4-aminopyridine—induced seizures in mice.Results:The preliminary phytochemical screening carried out on the crude ethanol extract revealed the presence of saponins,carbohydrates,flavonoids,tannins,anthraquinones and steroids.Similarly,tannins,flavonoids and steroids/terpenes were found to be present in the ethyl acetate fraction,In the pharmacological screening,150 mg/kg of the fraction protected 83.33%of animals against pentylenetetrazole-induced seizure in mice whereas sodium valproate a standard anti-epileptic drug offered 100%protection.In the 4-aminopyridine-induced seizure model,the fraction produced a significant(P<0.05)increase in the mean onset of seizure in unprotected animals.The fraction did not exhibit a significant activity against maximal electroshock convulsion.The median lethal dose of the fraction was found to be 1261.91 mg/kg.Conclusions:These results suggest that the ethyl acetate fraction of Globimetula braunii leaves extract possesses psychoactive compound that may be useful in the management of petit mal epilepsy and lend credence to the ethnomedical use of the plant in the management of epilepsy.Musa Mumammad Aliyu Abdullahi Isma'il Musa Muhammad Ja'afar Kanial Magaji Garba Mohammed 2014Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Biomedicine2014,4,4:0
