| 1 | Mineral composition and particle size distribution of river sediment and loess in the middle and lower Yellow River显示文摘Hyperconcentrated flows often occur in the middle and lower Yellow River(MLYR)and its tributaries, within which the main sediment source originates from the Loess Plateau of China due to serious water erosion.Little is known about the properties of river sediment that is transported by hyperconcentrated flows, particularly with respect to the mineral composition and size distribution.Samples of sediment and loess were collected in the northern, middle, and southern Loess Plateau and the mainstream and tributaries of the MLYR.A total of 18 loess samples and 24 river sediment samples were analyzed to determine their sediment size distribution and mineral composition. The bottom loess samples reflected the original sedimentary features of the Loess Plateau, and the median particle size reduced, and the clay content increased from the north to the south of the study region. The surface loess has been weathered under the action of wind and rainfall, and the clay particle content in the surface loess samples was higher than that in the undisturbed bottom loess.Erosion of the surface soil due to rainfall and surface runoff means that fine particles(mostly clay)have been washed away. The median diameter of surface loess particles was a little larger than that of the bottom loess particles where water erosion dominates. The particle size became coarser with increasing distance from the estuary in the MLYR,which reflects depositional sorting in the river channel.Significant logarithmic relations were found between the median diameter of the sediment particles and the i)non-clay mineral content and ii)clay mineral content. Thus, clay and non-clay mineral compositions can be conveniently estimated from the particle size distribution. | Shimin Tian Zhiwei Li Zhaoyin Wang Enhui Jiang Wenlong Wang Meng Sun | 2021 | International Journal of Sediment Research2021,36,3: | 3 |
| 2 | Subtidal variability in the Taiwan Strait induced by combined forcing of winter monsoon and topography显示文摘As an important channel connecting the East and South China Seas, circulations in the Taiwan Strait are strongly influenced by the East Asian monsoon and the topography of the strait, especially the Taiwan Bank(TWB), which is a remarkable topographic feature located at the southern entrance to the strait. Based on a series of pressure gauges deployed roughly 40 km offshore along the western Strait, subtidal sea-level variability under the combined impact of winter monsoon and topography was studied. The analyses show significant along-strait coherences of subtidal sea levels and their coherences with the large-scale monsoon wind for periods from 2 to 14 days. It is suggested that these fluctuations are mainly forced waves driven by the large-scale winds. In addition to the normal cross-shore wind setup, a sea-level setup in the along-strait direction is confirmed, which is induced by the combined forcing of the fluctuating winter monsoon and the blocking of the TWB. A southward current surge driven by a northerly wind event will cause a rising sea level over the TWB inducing a southward alongshore slope anomaly to the north of the TWB and a reversed slope anomaly to the south The subtidal current through the channel to the west of the TWB is found to be influenced by the reversed slope anomalies generated via the along-shore setup. | Li LI Xiaogang GUO Enhui LIAO Yuwu JIANG | 2018 | Science China Earth Sciences2018,61,4: | 3 |
| 3 | Monodomain Liquid Crystals of Two-Dimensional Sheets by Boundary-Free Sheargraphy显示文摘Eliminating topological defects to achieve monodomain liquid crystals is highly significant for the fundamental studies of soft matter and building long-range ordered materials. However, liquid crystals are metastable and sensitive to external stimuli, such as flow, confinement, and electromagnetic fields, which cause their intrinsic polycrystallinity and topological defects. Here,we achieve the monodomain liquid crystals of graphene oxide over 30 cm through boundary-free sheargraphy. The obtained monodomain liquid crystals exhibit large-area uniform alignment of sheets, which has the same optical polarized angle and intensity. The monodomain liquid crystals provide bidirectionally ordered skeletons, which can be applied as lightweight thermal management materials with bidirectionally high thermal and electrical conductivity.Furthermore,we extend the controllable topology of two-dimensional colloids by introducing singularities and disclinations in monodomain liquid crystals.Topological structures with defect strength from−2 to+2 were realized. This work provides a facile methodology to study the structural order of soft matter at a macroscopic level, facilitating the fabrication of metamaterials with tunable and highly anisotropic architectures. | Min Cao Senping Liu Qingli Zhu Ya Wang Jingyu Ma Zeshen Li Dan Chang Enhui Zhu Xin Ming Yingjun Liu Yanqiu Jiang Zhen Xu Chao Gao | 2022 | Nano-Micro Letters2022,14,12: | 2 |
| 4 | High Rate and Long Lifespan Sodium‑Organic Batteries Using Pseudocapacitive Porphyrin Complexes‑Based Cathode显示文摘Sodium-organic batteries utilizing natural abundance of sodium element and renewable active materials gain great attentions for grid-scale applications. However, the development is still limited by lack of suitable organic cathode materials with high electronic conductivity that can be operated stably in liquid electrolyte.Herein,we present 5,15-bis(ethynyl)-10,20-diphenylporphyrin(DEPP)and[5,15-bis(ethynyl)-10,20-diphenylporphinato]copper(II)(CuDEPP)as new cathodes for extremely stable sodium-organic batteries. The copper(II)ion partially contributes the charge storage and significantly stabilizes the structure of porphyrin complex for electrochemical energy storage. In situ electrochemical stabilization of organic cathode with a lower charging current density was identified which enables both improved high energy density and power density. An excellent longterm cycling stability up to 600 cycles and an extremely high power density of 28 kW kg−1 were achieved for porphyrin-based cathode. This observation would open new pathway for developing highly stable sodium-organic cathode for electrochemical energy storage. | Xi Chen Xin Feng Bo Ren Liangzhu Jiang Hongbo Shu Xiukang Yang Zhi Chen Xiujuan Sun Enhui Liu Ping Gao | 2021 | Nano-Micro Letters2021,13,5: | 1 |
