360 years of Rabinowicz' criterion for adhesive wear显示文摘60 years ago, in 1958, Ernest Rabinowicz published a 5 page paper titled 'The effect of size on the looseness of wear fragments' where he suggested a criterion determining the minimum size of wear particles. The criterion of Rabinowicz is based on the consideration of the interplay of elastic energy stored in 'asperities' and the work of separation needed for detaching a wear particle. He was probably the first researcher who explicitly emphasized the role of adhesion in friction and wear. In a recent paper in Nature Communications, Aghababaei, Warner and Molinari confirmed the criterion of Rabinowicz by means of quasi-molecular dynamics and illustrated the exact mechanism of the transition from plastic smoothing to formation of wear debris. This latter paper promoted the criterion of Rabinowicz to a new paradigm for current studies of adhesive wear. The size arguments of Rabinowicz can be applied in the same form also to many other problems, such as brittle-ductile transition during indentation, cutting of materials or ultimate strength of nano-composites.Elena POPOVA Valentin L.POPOV Dae-Eun KIM 2018Friction2018,6,3:1
4Influence of Bottom Inclination on the Flow Structure in a Rotating Convective Layer显示文摘The formation of convective flows in a rotating cylindrical layer with an inclined bottom and free surface is studied.Convection is driven by localized cooling at the center of the upper free surface and by rim heating at the bottom near the sidewall. The horizontal temperature difference in a rotating layer leads to the formation of a convective flow with a complex structure. The mean meridional circulation, consisting of three cells, provides a strongly non-uniform differential rotation. As a result of the instability of the main cyclonic zonal flow, the train of baroclinic waves appears in the upper layer. The baroclinic waves provide most of the heat transfer in the middle radii and are responsible for strong temperature and velocity fluctuations. It is shown that the inclination of the bottom is a crucial factor for the structure of the convective cells and the dynamics of the baroclinic waves. The increase in the inclination angle leads to a significant increase in the energy of the waves. The obtained results may be important for heat and mass transfer in various geophysical and industrial systems, including transport of various additives and impurities in rotating crucibles, and crystallization processes.Andrei Vasiliev Andrei Sukhanovskii Elena Popova 2024Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing2024,20,4:0
5Improving nutrition for the prevention of gestational diabetes:Current status and perspectives显示文摘Gestational diabetes mellitus(GDM)is a common complication of pregnancy and a serious public health problem. It carries significant risks of short-term and longterm adverse health effects for both mothers and their children.Risk factors, especially modifiable risk factors, must be considered to prevent GDM and its consequences.Observational studies have identified several nutritional and lifestyle factors associated with the risk of GDM.The results of intervention studies examining the effects of diet and lifestyle on the prevention of GDM are contradictory.Differences in the study populations, types and intensity of intervention, time frame of the intervention, and diagnostic criteria for GDM may explain the heterogeneity in the results of intervention studies. This review provides an overview of new diets and other factors that may help prevent GDM.The main results of epidemiological studies assessing the risk factors for GDM,as well as the results and methodological problems of intervention studies on the prevention of GDM and their meta-analyses,are discussed. In addition, the evidence that gene and lifestyle interactions influence the development of GDM,as well as prospects for increasing the effectiveness of interventions designed to prevent GDM,including new data on the possible uses of personalized diet therapy, are highlighted.Polina V Popova Evgenii A Pustozerov Aleksandra S Tkachuk Elena N Grineva 2021World Journal of Diabetes2021,12,9:0
6Using a needle for sacrospinous ligament fixation for pelvic organ prolapse based on the Miyazaki technique显示文摘Background:Approximately 7%of all women will require surgery to correct pelvic organ prolapse during their lives.Of these, approximately 10%-13%will require another operation within 5 years due to recurrence of the disease.Increases in life expectancy and elderly individuals with estrogen deficiencies will mean higher rates of pelvic organ prolapse, significantly reducing the quality of life for millions of people. This study introduces technologies that can help treat pelvic prolapse while reducing the rate of recurrence. Methods:This paper outlines how to properly perform sacrospinous ligament fixation using the Miyazaki technique. Results:A needle was used to successfully perform a sacrospinous ligament fixation using Miyazaki's technique. Conclusions:Considering the Food and Drug Administration’s 2019 decision to permit surgeries with native tissue, this method can be used with sacrospinous ligament fixation as the primary treatment option for pelvic organ prolapse.Ilnur Irekovich Musin Alfiya Galimovna Yashchuk Valentin Nikolaevich Pavlov Jianliu Wang Xiuli Sun Raisa Arkadevna Naftulovich Elena Mikhailovna Popova 2022Gynecology and Obstetrics Clinical Medicine2022,2,2:0
